Lee Loves to invade you early, and is a monster early game. Be careful, don't fight him early, his burst will kill you. Just run and ping for help. Hopefully your team collapses, if not just play safe until you finish your core items, as long as he hasn't gotten any kills you should be able to beat him then. If not just play safe, you outscale him hard late game.
Nocturne
The same as Lee, his fear will wreck you early game, just farm and last till late game, you outscale him as well.
Kha'Zix
This in my opinion is the hardest match up, because of his stealth buff. Aatrox is very Auto attack oriented and kha can skip that all by going invisible. Sadly he is one of the assassins that you don't really outscale, and late game can kill you pretty fast if he builds lethality. So just keep that in mind, unless you can get a lead jungling will be rough. I suggest at lvl 9 getting the red sweeper trinket so you can atleast track where he is when he goes invisible.
Fiddlesticks
This isn't really a super hard match up, as it is annoying and frustrating. You and fiddle fighting is basically like 2 x-men Wolverines fighting, except one of them can make you shut up, and run away. The reason it's hard is because the fights last so long you need to rely on your laners to collapse faster than his laners. Which let's face it. In this game the enemy laners are always better.
Master Yi
This one can be tough. Since you have hard CC you can stop his ultimate with your Q. But your E does nothing. As long as he doesn't get fed off your team you should be fine though. after bloodrazor rough a randuins or thornmail. Also Wait until he he Alpha Strikes before using your Q. Or he will dodge your knock up and damage.
Rengar
Similar to Kha, but I've found him to be easier to kill for whatever reason. I haven't really had a game go late vs a rengar, him and his team either snowball and close out the mid game, or my team snow balls and wins. Usually you can counter jungle him easy enough.
Shaco
Shaco is super cheesy. Especially if he is AP. Always be weary of jumping onto him, as he usually will have boxes. Unless i can literally one shot him i don't fight him. You can basically scare him off with a few autos. Don't chase him. He is usually cheeky and tries to do an early gank or invade.
Warwick
Since the new skill changes he is basically you, but with a better kit. I've found that a lot of WW over estimate themselves though, (very similar to new aatrox players) so you can take advantage of that if you know your limits. Stay healthy while jungling, he always apears out of no where as soon as you dip below half.
Evelynn
She sucks. Period. there's 2 ways to beat her. Ensure your laners play safe and don't over extend (which will never happen) or try to guess where she will gank and try to be there, while also trying to stay ahead in farm. She is similar to rengar, I haven't faced her late game, the game is usually over before the 30 minute mark. after tiamet I usually rush the MR part of GA then invade her.
Hecarim
He is very in meta right now. I don't find him horribly hard to kill though as you can usually slow him down and kill him without too much trouble.
Ivern
He is a support jungler, as long as you apply pressure to his jungle, he can't really stop you. Just watch out for his laners collapsing. Try to take his jungle and get out. He is very annoying to kill. So starve him instead.
Elise
She is also very meta, and has a lot of burst. Similar to Eve just rush some early MR, and stay healthy in your jungle. You outscale her starting around the mid game, as long as she isn't fed.
Shyvana
She has fast clear speeds so trying to contest her jungle is very dangerous and scary. Predict where she is ganking, and countergank. IMO she doesn't bring as much as you do to a 2v2. Her early game is a bit stronger than yours, both at full build you outscale her with 3 lives.
Udyr
He is cheesy, likes to invade and duel you. Rush lvl 4 and surprize him when he goes to invade/gank. Usually not too difficult to kite though and get away from him with Q.
Jax
He is a very strong duelist, try not to fight him early. If he hasn't got any kills you can usually invade his jungle and get out before he can stop you. He is one of the few you want to avoid drawn out 1v1s as he gets stronger just like you do. If you can't kill him in a combo then avoid fighting him. He will stun you before you can Q away.
Amumu
Easy game Easy life. get lvl 4 early and invade him. He will normally be on gromp or krugs at around 10-20%hp and oom. Easy 1st blood. He likes to engage and ult your team. If you keep him underfed he will just get deleted when he tries this.
Zac
This guy is annoying. Take his jungle and don't try to fight him. You may want to think about getting a BoTrK instead of a hydra for him.
Jarvan IV
This one is tough to rate. Tank J4 is easy to beat you outscale him easy. AD J4 one shots your carries. So play passive until you can see what his 1st item is. If he goes cynderhulk Game on, if he goes warrior, then be smart and try to burst him with your team before he deletes your squishies.
Diana
Diana is only difficult because a Diana main can do some serious damage. I would rank her lower but a Diana that knows what she is doing can kill your carries and get out before you can stop her. Pre lvl 6 you beat her, after that be careful, her burst is surprizing until you finish your GA and SV.
Akali
Seen her in the jungle a few times. Outfarm her, then invade her. She generally goes for kills. So either counter gank her or go for objectives on the other side of the map.
Kindred
She can Kite you, so don't chase. She is really squishy though and you outscale her so mid game and later don't be afraid to all in her, as long as she isn't fed.
Nunu & Willump
Is this guy still played? JK he is actually very annoying to fight against, because he is hard to kill. Don't chase him. He usually tries to invade then eat the jungle mob you just leashed for him. Focus the jungle creep down until you can smite it. Then smite it and bounce. Because where nunu goes, his team follows.
Camille
She has surprizing "Burst" mobility, but long CDs. Take advantage of that. If she ults you good, you can heal with your W. She killed you? Good you have your Passive. Late game and she got the jump on you kills you? Good you have GA. Your team can follow up and kill her for you. You just need to get to late game and you go even with her. Avoid diving her as she tends to just hook shot away.
Skarner
This guy is just annoying. I don't think i've lost a game vs him. Punish him early, after lvl 6 avoid invading unless you are ahead since he can just drag you to his laners. But if he grabs one of your carries just Q him and he can't take them anywhere and you and your team delete him. You outscale him.
Maokai
This dude is a CC tank Machine. Farm, get your team ahead, and avoid going to the late game. 1v1 you can beat him but he gets so tanky its rediculous.
Sejuani
She can be pretty tanky, but mid game you outscale her a lot, and late game still slightly win. Her ult can change teamfights though so keep track of its CD, and just peel for your Carries when she all ins.
Vi
Another very Meta Champ. She isn't horribly stronger than you early, you will usually have a level advantage when she invades, as well as more HP then her. Just becareful she could of brought a friend. So ping for help and kite. Don't all in her unless you know where her team mates are. She has a lot of burst and CC. But you can heal so you usually win.
Rammus
This little ball of **** is annoying as hell. Just avoid fighting him, farm up, and get your lanes ahead. Him and Malphite are your only true counters.
Malphite
This guy just lives to make your life hard. He farms slow, so abuse it. Just know that his initiations in team fights will make or break his team. As tempting as it is to respond to a Malph ult, with a Q of your own into the enemy backline, just Q malph, and peel for your team.
Gragas
His CC is slightly annoying, just avoid chasing him. Build early MR and invade his jungle after you get tiamat. Around the 20 minute mark he will be starved and you can 1 combo all him 100 hp to 0.
Twitch
Invisble champions are annoying as hell. Dont get caught by him, you outscale him but don't be fooled, if he opens up on you, there's a good chance you will die. If he pops your passive, don't try to fight when you revive. do a Flash then Q to safety. If you get the jump on him, you basically 1 shot him.
Alistar
Adding him here because enemy likes to lvl 1 invade with him. So have your team ready to collapse.
Blitzcrank
Adding him here because enemy likes to lvl 1 invade with him. So have your team ready to collapse.
Braum
Adding him here because enemy likes to lvl 1 invade with him. So have your team ready to collapse.
Rek'Sai
This guy isn't too hard. He has a decent clear speed so invading is tricky. Try to counter gank, or take objectives if he ganks the other side of the map. mid game is pretty even, but late game you outscale him.
Talon
This guy can escape from everything. Unless you can 1 shot him. Its better to play safe and back off until your team comes to scare him away.
Graves
This guy is tough. He will most likely invade early, like Lee just back off, and farm for late. Don't give him kills. And try to counter gank him. Don't invade him unless you are ahead.
Pantheon
This guy has CC and burst. As well as his Q will hurt you a lot. Since you generally farm around 50% hp his combo will usually kill you. Farm for late, and countergank when you can.
Xin Zhao
Another early game champ that loves to invade/gank. Early/mid game he has you beat. But late game you outscale him. Don't invade him unless you are ahead.
Fiora
She isn't usually jungle, but if she is in your game know that your Q is very telegraphed and she will parry it and stun you. If you are ganking her lane either Q from fog of war or use Q to position ahead of her instead of for the knock up.
Jayce
He isn't usually jungle but he can knock you back while you are Qing onto him, as well as he has enough burst early and mid game to 1 combo you before you start to heal. Gank him early if he is top lane, and keep him from getting fed.
I've been basically an Aatrox main since season 4 when i got 2 unofficial penta kills in a row in a game. I have mainly played him top lane, but recently switched to Jungle as a lot of the match ups top lane aren't ideal. I love the way Aatrox plays, feels and especially the way he looks. I'm making this in depth guide to help out other Aatrox enthusiasts. Now the item build that I go with AA isn't the only build he can go, he in my humble opinion is one of the few champions that can be built any way you see fit. I've played him AP, i've played him Crit, I've played him tank, and I've had success with all of them. Bruisers just scale so well this season, especially a bruiser like AA.
Runes
Runes
Aatrox's runes are going to stay the same in basically all situations. Attack Speed Quints, AD Reds, Armor Yellows, Scaling MR Blues. (Note I always take 1 crit chance red, you'd be surprized how many times it surprises you and your enemies)
Masteries
Masteries
With my AAtrox build you'll generally want to go 18/0/12. It all fits his kit very well, I've tried all of the key stones on AA, and i find the most success with this. Fervor late game I feel is the reason you outscale a lot of other champions.
Items
Items
Ravenous Hydra, BloodRazor, are the 2 core items for a jungle AA, everything else you build is based off of the individual match, and who on the enemy team is the biggest threat. With these 2 offensive items, Boots SV GA and RO you will be extremely hard to kill, as well as do surprising amounts of damage for how tanky you are. A lot of people would say that AA needs BoTRK, but with Bloodrazor, I feel you only need to add a BOTRK to the build if they have a fed tank, or they have 3 tanks (IE tank top tank jungler and tank support). Also note that if you are your teams main engage, you should build titanic, and become tanky fast.
Skill Sequence
Skill Sequence
W is by far AA's best skill, toggle it on for extra dmg, toggle it off for extra healing. This allows AA to continue power farming jungle after getting low from a gank. Max E next for more damage and lower CD for more spammability. Max Q last, I've tried maxing Q second for extra mobility, but E has a lower CD and allows you to stick to your targets better. Especially when chained with Blue smite. Obviously like 99% of champs in LoL level R whenever possible. On a side note, the opener combo you will want to do is W (hit 2 minions so you can have its 3 hit passive up) set to damage, E>Q>AA>R>AA>Tiamet> and most squishies will be dead. If you guys would like some video guides to this and my jungle route let me know and I'll add them.
Spells
Spells
Flash and Smite are my preferences, Flash + Q allows your to initiate from a surprising distance or get out of sticky situations (like they popped your passive as soon as you revive flash, then Q over a wall.) Ghost and Exhaust are viable but IMO not as good.
Pros / Cons
Pros / Cons
Pros: Cons: -Great Duelist and powerful in long fights -Great scaling -Beats most meta champs -Easy to learn -Has a second life -Has great mobility -Has slows -Has surprising burst -With Tiamat Great clear speeds -Stays healthy in jungle which allows him more opportunities to Gank/Counter Gank -Can solo dragon/Rift/Baron earlier than most jungles -Doesn't need a leash
-Cons -Q is telegraphed -Q can be interrupted -Hard to know your limits -After reviving no passive Attack Speed -Can be Kited -Misuse of W will get you killed -Tempted to split push instead of grouping with team -Second life is misleading and you will do things you normally wouldn't because of it -For some reason you feel vulnerable when your passive is on CD
Summary
Summary
He is a great champion that is easy to learn. He scales well and will surprise enemies late game, since a lot of people don't know how to deal with late game Aatrox since he isn't played that often. He can carry as long as you know your limits. Overall I hope this guide was helpful, please comment if you would like specific details that I didn't include in this guide.
