Champion Build Guide

AD Shyvana Mid [14.7]

By franz liszt
Playstyle
Your goal with this build is to oneshot low health targets. To do this, we pick Electrocute, ignite and high AD items. We also pick Magical Footwear and Treasure Hunter because we will be relying on item advantage to oneshot targets. We also skip upgrading our free boots until very late in the game (unless we really need the tenacity early on)
Runes

Core runes

  • vs 30-220 + 10% AD vs 40-180 damage. I prefer electrocute for the extra damage against high priority targets (e.g. leblanc, lucian, soraka...) but you can go for PTA or even Conqueror if the enemy team has tankier laners
  • 20-80 + 10% AD + 5 per soul. At its maximum, you get the same damage as electrocute with 28 soul stacks. It's an interesting option that you might choose if you don't like electrocute. Pick this if you are confident that you can trigger it easily in the laning phase
  • Taste of blood Scales with AD and provides extra sustain in lane and duels. Sudden impact seems to be doing quite a bit of effective damage. I prefer taste of blood but sudden impact is not to be overlooked.
  • Warding is a big problem in soloq. junglers take advantage of this to farm a greedy botlane. Use this to prevent ganks on your lane and your bot lane and prevent or suss out other erratic behaviors from the enemy jungler like invades, early dragon kills etc. Synergies with cosmic insight
  • vs The items in this build have very powerful actives that you want to get as soon as possible. The alternative is Igenious Hunter which also syngeries with these items but since your goal is to oneshot high priority targets rather than extended fights we will pick treasure hunter instead.
  • 300 gold that allows us to focus on rushing damage items rather than losing momentum by focusing on boots. The additional movement speed is noteworthy. The +10 bonus movement speed from this rune + ghost + w + movement speed from items will allow you to skip completing your boots until very late. This essentially saves you a maximum of 1100 gold that you can use to purchase your main damage items
  • Reduces item cooldowns, reduces ward cooldown which translates to more ghost poros. Most importantly it reduces your ghost and ignite cooldowns allowing for more oneshot potential and other utility purposes

Small runes

Whether you pick attack speed, cdr or ad is completely up to you and your preferred playstyle. I personally prefer attack speed mostly because it makes attacking feel less awkward
Same for the other runes. You can change them for what feels most comfortable against your current matchup
Rational

Why are you not buying defensive items?

Be a threat not a walking punching bag. what's the point of buying tank items to then extend a fight against a vayne or a leblanc or another carry that excel at kiting? Extending the fight will eventually end up in their favor. The best defense is offense (with a little defense), so I'd rather invest in resources that allow me to oneshot the high priority target quickly instead.

You don't need heavy defensive items when offensive items have scaling defensive actives, stats and effects that can be proced easily using shyvana's kit. You survive by profiting from these scaling defensive effects

Offensive items that work well with shyvana's kit while allowing you to survive bursts are:
  • : life steal + aoe life steal
  • : 450 health + heal that scales with (140% base AD + 6% missing health)
  • : Shield of 160 + 40% per bonus attack damage
  • : 30% damage reduction cleared with the second passive + 50% AD heal after a kill
  • : 8% life steal + movement speed
  • : 300 health + movement speed
  • : mr and tenacity + movement speed

Shyvana also has a number of defensive tools in her kit:
  • shyvana's passive provides 5 ar + 5 mr per defeated dragon
  • 150 to 350 health
  • 30 to 50% additional movement speed

Why rush ravenous hydra?

Not a single stat is wasted. Shyvana's kit relies heavily on each of the provided stats early on for both defensive, offensive and other utility purposes. RH will allow you to:
  • Clear lanes very quickly
  • Fully restore your health with the active and passive lifesteal when hitting minions, camps or scuttle crab (even quicker healing when in dragon form)
  • Makes fighting inside minion waves absolutely broken
  • The lack of early enemy one shot capabilities and early enemy lifesteal cut items gives this item a clear edge early on in 1v1 and 1v2 situations especially when fighting inside a minion wave or a camp and you can hit everything with your Q. Remember that you are playing with doran's shield and a number of defensive runes meaning that you can induldge in buying a highly offensive item first
  • Your main spells (Q and E) substantially benefit from the high CDR and AD provided and the passive effect
  • Your next items also scale very well with AD
Summoner Spells
  • Ignite is a must because we don't want to miss kills. Again, our goal is to kill high priority targets before they get the chance to flash, dash, healed up etc
  • Ghost can be changed to flash depending on your prefered playstyle. Just remember that ghost can have other utility usages that flash doesn't provide (faster follow up, teleport alternative, gank counter, chasing...)
