Not Updated For Current Season
This guide has not yet been updated for the current season. Please keep this in mind while reading. You can see the most recently updated guides on the browse guides page
Aphelios Is a very complicated champion to play against, because at one point he could be really low, but then he shoots his ult at you and suddenly gains full health and starts attacking you at insane speeds. Try to all in him when you see his health is low, and try not to let him engage you.
Alistar
You can kite him pretty good and poke him out to proc your Lethal tempo. The reason I have put Alistar in 'Even' is because he can engage you pretty well and his damage is pretty high considering he is a tank. Try to play safe when you can't see Alistar or when you see him coming towards you (This means the enemy bot lane is looking for an engage).
Bard
Bard is tricky to play against, because bard players tend to play aggressive when their damage output isn't really that good. He can slow you and stun you, try to stay behind minions or your support to dodge it. You can engage on him pretty easily but he can stop a jungle gank with his ult, allowing him and his ADC to reposition or run away. The sad thing is that Cleanse doesn't work on a bard ult, so you can't remove it's stasis effect.
Blitzcrank
Blitzcrank can be a pretty annoying problem for you. He's a hook champion, which means he can engage you from a distance. You can easily avoid this by hiding behind minions. The only problem is that he can run towards with his W and then grab you, so hold onto your flash. The only thing with blitzcrank is his Q, since after that he has his knock up and that's really it. He relies a lot on his ADC to do damage, so try to focus the enemy ADC.
Brand
Brand has an insane amount of burst and poke, and once he gets his amplifying tone, he doesn't really run out of mana. If brand has hit you with a circle of fire, watch out for a small fireball, because if it hits you you'll get stunned. Try to play safe when brand has already hit you with an ability that isn't his Q. Don't stay close to your support when they go for an engage, since he can use his E to do double damage to you both and he can use his ult to throw a fireball at you that bounces of you both. Very scary match up but try and get your support to play something like thresh or pyke since he is an immobile, squishy mage.
Braum
Braum has a shield that can block incoming damage. He can use this to protect his ADC or himself. Try to bait this out before you go for an engage. He has a stun but it's a skill shot so try to dodge it, since it's area of effect is that large.
Caitlyn
Caitlyn isn't as powerful as she was in s10, but she still has a lot of poke and burst damage with her crits and she can kite you if you don't have too much move speed. Try to dodge her Q because it does a lot of damage. That is her only method of poke but she can also zone you off with her W's, which are traps. Her E allows her to escape and crit on her next attack. Try to engage her when she mispositions since she is pretty vulnerable to all-in's.
Draven
Draven has insane amounts of damage with his Q's since they reset every time he catches his spinning axes. He can knock you to the side with his E which can help his support land a hook or a stun on you. when you see him trying to catch his axes, let him get into the rhythm of it, since he'll be more focused on catching the axes to add more money onto his passive. Try to engage him when he mispositions or when he is catching his axes. This can, however backfire on you since a good draven player can just bounce the axes of YOU, which will do a lot of damage.
Ezreal
He is really weak in the early game and is easy to engage on once he has uses his E. But once he gets his muramana his damage will start to increase. Try to dodge his Q since it will melt your health down in the late game. He's overall easy to poke and you can easily win lane over him.
Jhin
Jhin has a decent amount of poke with his Q and can also stun you with his W if you've been hit by his flower traps or his Q bullet. His damage is actually broken if he runs eclipse (even then it's still stupid) and he can three or four shot you with his auto's alone. But, he is really REALLY vulnerable to ganks an all in's. You can slow him with your W and your Q's can junk his health down. He's nearly as immbolie as you so try to take that to ruin his laning phase.
Jinx
Jinx is pretty weak in the early game, but her W can slow you, much like yours but her's is a skill shot, and that can allow her to fire rockets at you that do a lot of damage. She is pretty immbolie and can be poked out in the early game. You can rip her health down with your Q +passive slow.
Kai'Sa
Kai'sa has a ton of damage with her W and has a ranged projectile that does a lot of damage. She isn't that bad in the early game but you can engage her without taking too much damage if you focus her. She has a speed up that can allow her to run away from ganks if she has vision on your jungler. If she hits you with an ability she can use her ult to teleport to you.
Kalista
She can kite, but that's it. She doesn't have too much poke, and even then it's a skill shot which you can easily dodge. She can be easily harassed and poked out if her team aren't exactly helping her. People don't really understand that Kalista needs help to get to her late-game power spike.
Kog'Maw
Kog'Maw has a powerful slow with his E, and it can easily allow an engage on you. But this does cost a lot of mana for him. His Q can also slow you but it's really easy to dodge. His W is what you need to scared of though, since it gives him one of the highest auto attack ranges in the game and increases his attack speed heavily. He can shred through you if he gets Kraken Slayer. He is immobile and easy to gank. Another thing as well, his ult can slap your health from a insane distance away, so be careful if your backing on low health.
Leona
Leona has great all-in potential since she can latch onto you really fast and stun you. She is a melee champion and can be easily kited. Try to put pressure on her to minimise the chance of an all-in. try to hide behind minions, but she can still come towards you and stun you, so try to apply pressure on her so she won't do this.
Lucian
Lucian can literally just kill you in two abilities and two auto's pre-level 6. When level six comes along, you have more survivability with your ultimate but he can kill you in about three abilities (including his ult). He has a decent amount of mobility with his E dash, making it hard to all-in him or even gank him. Try to position behind minions, minimising the amount of damage his Q can do and try to poke him when you can. Don't misposition or your dead.
Lux
Lux has a lot of skill shot's that are easy to aim and are hard to dodge. One of her abilities allows her to do damage in a large area of damage and slow you. She has a bind that can reach two champions or minions. Oh yeah, and she has a shield to protect her ADC. Oh AND she has a really low cooldown ult that does a LOT of damage. Yeah, she can annihilate squishy champions like you if you can'rt dodge her abilities. Dodge her- big area -of- damage-ability to stop her from binding you.
Miss Fortune
She has low range, but she has a large slow that can slow multiple people and an ability that lets her do a huge amount of damage that bounces of minions. Try to poke her out early and apply pressure since she doesn't have great mobility. If she snowballs your in for a lot of pain but she's easy to beat in the laning phase.
Morgana
Morgana can be easily countered with cleanse, but cleanse has a decently long cooldown, which may result in you getting CC'd and engaged on. She can also counter champions like pyke and Blitzcrank since her spell shield stops any spells from getting to her or her ADC.
Nautilus
He is very tanky, and is hard to punish if he misses a hook. When he misses a hook, he can just grapple towards you anyway and knock you up. In the mid game he is very strong and hard to kill, so try not to stay anywhere near him or you'll either die or burn some of your summoner spells.
Pantheon
Pantheon has high damage output and very good poke. He can engage on you really easily and he can deflect any incoming attacks with his shield and do damage. He like a stronger version of Braum that does a TON of damage. Also Be careful when you're in lane with low health, He can ult into the lane and kill you.
Pyke
Pyke Is a VERY scary match up to play against because of his long range on his hook and his damage output with his ultimate. He has a delay when he wants to hook you, which allows you to reposition. Hide behinds minions to prevent getting hooked and engage once he has used his Q (hook) and his E (stun).
Samira
Samira is broken. She isn't that strong pre level 6 but once she hits level 6 she can absolutely crush you since her ulti gives her lifesteal and a HUGE burst of damage. Try to bully her early to stop her from 1v5 your team.
Senna
Senna isn't really a hard match up to play against whether she is a support or ADC since they both suck. She has a good method of cc, and can stun multiple people at once, so if you are marked with her stun, stay away from your teammates to prevent them from getting stunned. Doesn't have a high damage output and you can easily bully her at any stage of the game.
Seraphine
She has a good amount of poke, but she's no lux. You can bully her easily although her healing is quite potent. Wait for her to use her healing abilities before you engage. Her ultimate is very scary if you get hit, so try to dodge it beforehand to prevent getting charmed.
Sivir
Although she isn't very meta, she has a spell shield AND has a good amount of poke in the early game. She can 1v1 you easily if she's fed and she can block poke with her spell shield. Try to bully her early to prevent her from getting a lead.
Sona
Sona has a very good method of poke, which is her Q that SLAPS. she has a high mana cost in the early game and her W cost more then her ulti believe it or not. When you she she has no mana, engage since she's pretty useless.
Swain
Swain is a very strong support and can easily burst down your health. His ultimate allows him to win trades or kill you in a 1v1 and he has really good poke and damage. Try to dodge his spells and once they're on cooldown, try to kill him or bully him out of lane.
Soraka
Soraka has bad poke, low damage and a decent amount of healing. Her ultimate can, however, turn teamfights around but that's really her only strength. You can bully her easily if she misses her poke and you easily kill her.
Tahm Kench
He has a really good amount of tankiness once he gets a few items (they don't have to be a complete item, the can be components). He can swallow you up and dump you in the middle of the enemy team which is bad especially for you. Try to abuse him in the early game or build Kraken Slayer before his tankiness gets TOO out of hand.
Teemo
Yes, Teemo support is a thing. Much like Twitch support, he can crush you in the early game since his Q stops you from attacking, which makes it easy for him to engage you. Try to bait his Q out and then engage him. I would try to avoid this match up but it's not very common.
Thresh
I mean, his hooks are pretty much the only reason you need to be scared of him. He can slow you with his ultimate but it's easy not to get caught, you just stay back. Poke him out early and he can't really do anything.
Tristana
Try to bully her before she hits level 3, once she does, your in trouble, since she can burst you down with her E, then activate her Q speed up. She can jump on you with her w which resets on kills. Try to poke her out if she is in no position to be ganked.
Twitch
He isn't too powerful pre level 6, but once he hits 6 he can absolutely MELT your health bar, so try not to take too many trades unless he's low or has no ulti up. He's like Teemo, you need to have vision of him or you'll get burst down.
Varus
Varus isn't that scary, he's really weak and his only main damage source is his fully charged Q, which is easy to dodge. Take Cleanse to get out of his ultimate root. Poke him early and you can easily burst him down.
Vayne
She isn't strong in the early game, but once she gets Kraken Slayer your in trouble unless you get ahead in the early game. Don't stay near walls or you'll get stunned. Try to beat her down early or you'll naturally get outscaled.
Xayah
She has barely any poke, bad all-ins and her ultimate is easy to dodge. She can stun you if she has 3 feathers behind you, which is easy to dodge as well. Poke her out since you can bully her at any stage in the game.
Xerath
He has a ridiculous amount of poke, he has a stun and a fast global ultimate. He has no sustain for him or his support though, so try to engage once his spells are down. Dodging his Q is hard, but if you can dodge them that's his primary damage source gone.
Yuumi
Yuumi is a useless flying cat. She's an extra heal, that's it.
Bard
He has poke, he has sustain, kind of a standard support.
Blitzcrank
It's great since his hooks are fast and long range, and you can follow up with a W Q proc combo to burst the enemy down all while blitz knocks them up with his E and chases them down with his W.
Brand
A good brand is really good, since he has a great amount of burst damage and poke. A bad brand that misses is kind of useless since he has no sustain for you or him.
Braum
He is a standard tank support with no healing ability, which is all made up for by his shields and stuff.
Janna
She is more of a healing champion, and she only has one method of poke. She is a good support since she has a LOT of healing since that's all she really brings, which is good against a Draven+Pyke or something like that.
Lulu
Lulu is very strong since her ultimate allows you to win a lot of engages if used early on. She has a good amount of heal and her auto's do a decent amount of damage.
Lux
She has a shield, and a crap ton of poke. A good lux is basically perfect since she can bully the CRAP out of the enemy bot lane, so try to play aggro when her spells are up. Don't get cocky when her spells are down or your gonna be punished.
Morgana
Morgana is one of the best supports for you since she has a good amount of damage with her bind. She has a spell shield which can help you survive poke or win an all in.
Nautilus
He has no healing ability, but a lot of tankiness and a hook ability, which is pretty good since you can let him soak damage while you attack from behind.
Pantheon
It's kind of like a duo ADC bot lane because his damage is stupid and his shield is really strong. He can fly into lane with his ultimate and flank an enemy since it's area of effect is really good.
Pyke
He has a stun with his E, which allows him to follow up from a hook (if he lands it). He can multi kill with his ultimate and the mythic item, prowlers claw, allows him to destroy the enemy. High damage and great synergy since you provide a slow to help him land his Q's.
Rakan
He has a knock up and a decent shield. That's really it. He can help you engage since his knock up range is pretty good, but he has no built in sustain.
Swain
He has a great amount of poke that makes up for his lack of healing and you can easily help him follow up on a successful root.
Thresh
You have an escape tool with his lantern and he has an engage tool with his Q hook. HE can follow up on this with his E. He's like pyke but with a bad ultimate.
Yuumi
Horse crap ban Yuumi if you see your support hovering her. She SUCKS. She has healing. That's it.

Ashe has a decent early game depending on what match up she is against. Looking at the match ups section of this guide or the threats section will be a key in telling you how to play the lane.
Against Heavy Poke
Try to buy a Doran's Shield to negate the damage coming from the enemy bot lane. You have to play it patient and farm under turret until you find a opening to engage on them. Don't fall behind on farm or your in trouble, since you need to be at a decent level to survive the mid game. The enemy bot lane may overextend or get close to your turret, allowing your jungler to have a clear gank, which may turn the lane around for you.
An Easy Lane
In an easy lane, you'll want to poke as much as possible, Try to aim your W at the middle of a minion wave, and try to get the arrows on the side of your volley to hit your enemy. You'll obviously want to start Doran's Blade since it gives you a good amount of damage. Don't overextend or stay behind a tower for long, this will allow the enemy jungler to flank you from behind, which will set you behind. If you get them behind turret, try to poke them out so they panic and miss farm, since they need to concentrate on farming, which can give you a CS advantage.
If your support is throwing or YUUMI
Play it like a poke lane, and try not to engage since they will probably get fed over your support positioning. Try to buy some sustain like Refillable Potion or even Corrupting Potion so you can survive at least.
How to play the Mid Game
Yeah mid game is what decides the game, it's were everyone starts to fight and you have those ARAM skirmishes. Stay in the back line and try to poke them out with your Volley since it has a low cooldown time. Use your ultimate Enchanted Crystal Arrow when they are all bunched together to guarantee you a win in the teamfight. Use your Q to kite in case they try to flank you from behind. Put pressure on every lane by pushing waves in or destroying towers to help you with match pressure.
How to play the late game
The late game is where you need to be careful, since champions like Jhin or Miss Fortune heavily out damage you, so try not to take 1v1's with them and stay in the back line. You are an auto-attacking machine and you can kite just about any tanks ( Ornn or Sion). A lot of adc's that crit heavily can easily one shot you or blow your health to shreds. Try to use your utility and stay in the back line to help your team win teamfights. Use your ultimate to hit multiple enemies to give your team a chance to inflict damage.
Runes
Lethal Tempo
Lethal Tempo is one of the best runes for Ashe because of the amount of burst you have with your Q. It can also server as an indicator that your abilities have hit an enemy. For example, if you want to face check a bush, fire your W into it, and if your lethal tempo procs, you know there is an enemy in the bush.
Presence of mind.
Presence of mind is great because Ashe usually uses a lot of mana in the early game, it allows your mana to be restored when you kill a champion, this can allow you to kill the enemy bot lanes support for example, and the mana restoration means you can chase the second enemy, possibly getting another kill.
Alacrity
Alacrity is good since it gives you some attack speed that scales as you play the game, which lets you get to the cap quickly.
Coup De Grace
Allows you to execute enemeies when they get away with barely any health. Let's say the support gets away with 20 health and backs under tower, just out of reach of your w, well you can flash w, and you'll instantly kill him/her because of the execute.
Free Boots
Speaks for itself, free boots that save you 300 gold.
Approach Velocity
Gives you extra movement speed so you can stick to the enemy and slow them with your passive, basically securing you a kill.
This chapter I'll basically be showing you the hardest Ashe matchups and how to play against them.
Twitch
You may be wondering, 'but you put him in 'even' on the matchups thingy', yeah I did, because if you play against him right you can win easily. Twitch usually needs an enchanter support since he has a lot of poke. People tend to build nashor's on him, which gives him some AP, which will destroy you. Try to poke him a lot in the early game, get your support to harass him as much as you can. Don't take extended trades at level 6 unless you know he is slow or he has already used his ultimate. IF you want to take the trades, then let him use his ulti first, then stun him and try to chunk him down with your Q. Unless you are fed I wouldn't want to fight him when he as his ulti up. Basically just try to snowball before he out scales you.
Tristana
Yeahhhh this is gonna be a scary match up at level three, since she can straight up cheese you in a bush, and if you try to get away she just jumps onto you, slaps her E on your head and Q's you down (which is a speed up like yours). She can essentially one shot you at level three, much like Samira, so try to harass her out of lane pre level 3 so you can gain an xp advantage and take her down. You can clamp her down with your ultimate, which is one of your only ways of chasing her, but if you take Approach velocity, you can Volley her to activate your passive to narrow her escape.
Samira
Everyone's favourite champion. She has a katarina ult, but she can move around and it gives her lifesteal and it has no cooldown and she can also destroy you at level three and take no damage in return an-
Yes, as you can see, she is a pretty unbalanced champion is what I am trying to say, and yes, she CAN burst you down at level three, she can gain lane prio at all stages of the game against you and she scales really well. I ban her 100% of the time, which is surprising considering Jhin and Kai'Sa are considered more broken. To lane against Samira, I recommend harassing her at level three much like you would with a tristana, and try to pressure her as much as you can. The only good thing about this matchup is that any support that you have (yes, even Yuumi) since you need healing, you need protection and a support like a Pyke is good for maintaining pressure on her. If you don't have a Pyke like support, play extremely safe, and when you get poked or burst down, you'll have some sustain to carry on csing.
If you have any champion you want me too add to this chapter, just tell me, and I'll consider it.
In this Chapter I'll be going over the mythic items, what scenarios they're good in, and if they're good on Ashe.
Kraken Slayer
Probably the best Mythic In the game beside Sunfire Aegis. It gives every adc a vayne w, which allows you to shred tanks every third auto. This is great news since it synergises so well with Ranger's Focus. It's good against a very tanky team or if you are extremely fed. Ashe usually plays this item even if there is one tank on the enemy team, and if they don't really have any burst I would just settle for this item.
Immortal Shieldbow
This Item is great for survivability and sustain, since it's passive saves you from high burst damage, especially in the early game. It provides life steal, which is great since you can build into a Blade of the Ruined King and Bloodthirster for insane sustain.
Galeforce
Galeforce allows you to dash forwards a small amount and deal magic damage, much like a rocket-belt. It's stats aren't too bad, it gives a good amount of attack speed and damage. The mobility you get from this item gets rid of Ashe's worst weaknesses, which is a lack of mobility. I recommend if you are against a team with a lot of skill shots that need to land.
You made it to the end!
CONGRATS
You got through my guide, well done. Your reward is...I mean hopefully you know a lot more about Ashe now, that's reward enough. Special thanks to Wicked Cherry for the banners, you should check her out in the art corner section of the community forums! Thanks again, good luck out there summoner.
