Talon Passive Ability
Talon is a very strong AD Assassin most often played in the Middle lane. He has good CC and great damage. But, he relies on winning early game to transform into his scary bursting monster. Black Cleaver is possibly the best, but definitely the most common, item on Talon as it really synergizes with all of Talon's abilities. | cutthroat |
Who am I?
My name, is Volexbolex™ (pronounced volabola, the EX is a short A sound - ign: SoundVox) Im a 1050 elo player making my way up the ranked ladder. I've been in the league for about 2 years now playing normals with my friends and just rescently strarted to play ranked. My best position is Mid, followed by Top, Jungle, ADC, and Support. I love playing Assassin type champions, I have a very fast pace play style and I love the feeling of being unseen, then going in and destroying someone, then coming out untouched. Favorite and best champions would be
Diana, Katarina, Kha'Zix, Talon etc… And I make these guides for you.
Pros and Cons
Pros+ He's an Assassin + Good Crowd-Control + targeted in fights (if fed) + Counters many mid champions + Michael Jackson Dance |
Talon's Strengths |
Cons- Very Squishy - Fairly easy to gank - Targeted in teamfights - No sustain - Runs out of mana early |
Talon's Weaknesses |

Item Sequence
Opening Items
Against champions that are skill shot based like Karma, Lux, Lissandra etc... I will usually go with
Boots and 3 Health Potion.
If you're against champions like Ryze Kassadin or Kayle who have only lock on abilities, then get 2 sight ward and 9 potions would be another optional start
First Back
On your first recall you should try to farm enough for The Brutalizer, But if you get ganked and are forced to recall early, just pick up 1 or 2 Long Swords, a sight ward and some potions.
Next Items
space
After you get your The Brutalizer, rush Bloodthirster. (As some people noted in the discussion, Armor Pen isn't too great unless you have damage to back it up, thus I made the change to put Last Whisper into a later part UNLESS the enemy straight up stacks armor right out of the gate). After getting Bloodthirster or the 2 components of the item, get a Pickaxe which will then be formed into a Last Whisper (or if losing the lane terribly against an AP caster, Maw of Malmortius).
Core Items
spacee space
These 3, will be your core items.
Definitely enough to win the game.
Boots
SPACESPACE
For boots I have usually been going with Mobility Boots just because I like the extra movement speed to run around the map ganking people, and it could definitely save your life when trying to outrun someone or they can get you more kills when trying to catch up to someone.
Another prime choice for boots would be Ionian Boots of Lucidity, the extra CDR on Talon is very fun, and will make his ultimate a VERY short CD and sometimes you'll be able to use it 2 times in team fights.
Otherwise, it is your choice for boots, but these are the 2 that I recommend.
Defense Items
space space
(Again noted in the discussion: One great man once said "So art thou not geteth any defensive items, but to destroyeth the enemy team by becomingeth a glass cannon!" and a very well constructed comment indeed) So you could go straight up damage, not buying any defensive items and gutting the enemy team before they can decide what to do about you, you can optionally buy another Bloodthirster or Infinity Edge (if you're into that sort of thing).
Warmog's Armor is a very good choice, giving you +1000 health and extra HP regen, a very useful and cost efficient item, and this has replaced my option for the Frozen Mallet
And Guardian Angel is another late game item that can turn the odds very easily in a team fight. Giving you another chance to kill the remaining enemies, or get your *** outa there.
Maw of Malmortius is a good item if you are loosing your lane against an AP champion and the passive shield can be very annoying at times and could save your life, usually just get a Hexdrinker until mid-late game.
Offense Items
123 123
For your last offensive item it really depends on your situation. If you want to be a glass cannon then get another Bloodthirster, Trinity Force, I never buy it for Talon because its not too useful for him in my opinion, yeah you get 40% chance of slow and a burst for your next auto attack from Sheen, but Talon is more of an AD Mage, not a fighter like Rengar and Zed or someone who takes more effect from auto attacks. Ravenous Hydra is another great option, but like I said before, Talon doesn't use many auto attacks when fighting, but it is great for farming and after your abilities are gone in a team fight you need to start auto attacking, and the AOE is a great tool.

Runes
Runes
Greater Glyph of Magic Resist
I like these on Talon because when you go mid, usually the enemy is going to be an AP caster, so it will block some of their spell damage.
Greater Seal of Armor
Necessary on any AD bruiser or assassin, it will reduce the damage from champion and minion auto attacks and gives you more defense for late game.
greater mark of armor penetration
Armor Penetration marks are great for any AD champion, these will really allow you to gut open the armored tanks and since this build is solely based on armor penetration for early game, these are the better choice over attack damage marks.
Greater Quintessence of Attack Damage
Attack Damage Quints are, in my opinion, the best choice, so...yeah.
Masteries
Optional Masteries
Ganking
This is one of Talon's strongest points. His ganking. He has an engaging ability that also silences, so the enemy won't be able to flash away immediately, he has a high damage slow, and he has another amazing high damage gap closer for his ultimate. This is essentially the perfect kit for any assassin, and a perfect kit for ganking.
Bottom Lane Ganking
1) If the lane is pushed in your favor, come in through your backside bush and jump in when the enemy gets close.
2) If the lane is pushed up to your turret, you can go straight down the river directly through the middle of the lane (Blue Side) or you can sneak in through the TRI-bush and really stop the enemy bottom lane from escaping your blade. REMEMBER: Only use cutthroat When they run! If they have some distance between you and their turret or safe point, then attack them head on and don't cutthroat to them as soon as you see them.
Top Lane Ganking
1) Again, if the lane is pushed in your favor, come in through your bush and decimate the enemy when they get close
2) You can try something risky (Purple Side) and start at the enemy TRI-bush, go in past the turret with you Ultimate and gut them from the back.
Summoner Spells
Ignites a non-friendly unit (except for enemy minion), dealing (50 + 20 × level) true damage over time to a single target and reduces the health regeneration and the healing effects received by 50%.
A very classic spell for any laner, helps when full engaging if you cant get the last 10 hp from the enemy and I usually take this spell whenever playing Talon.
Teleports your Champion to target nearby location.
Another common spell for every position, and usually always taken, it allows you to get out of tough situations or into them, A very useful spell which should almost always be taken.
Shields your champion for 95 + (20 x level) for 2 seconds.
A great baiting spell and I will usually take it in ranked if im against a champion that I know I will get turret dived by for a defensive approach in trying not to feed and to possibly counter kill if they overextend.
After 4 seconds, it teleports your champion to target turret or friendly minion (making it invulnerable for the duration). Can be canceled.
A great tool for back dooring or extreme ganking, and if you get countered in champion select ALWAYS go Teleport to gank other people and have them carry you that way. I love that it gives you global presence and the enemy always has to be careful what they do because you could teleport in and totally change the game, you can also teleport to things like > Teemo mushrooms, Shaco Jack in the Boxes, Zyra plants etc...
Heal heals oneself for 75 + 15 × level and every allied unit for the same amount.
A great team spell and baiting spell but not usually used on a mid or top, But, it definitely can turn around a team fight at the most.
Abilities and Skill Sequence
mercy | Talon's autoattacks deal 10% additional damage to any target that is slowed, stunned, immobilized or suppressed. |
cutthroat |
Talon instantly appears behind his target, silencing them for 1 second and amplifying his damage against that target for 3 seconds. - Great for harassing close up, it silences so they won't be able to counter attack you - Good escaping/engage tool |
Skill Sequence
Skill Combos
Easy Harass
cutthroat
A very simple combo starting off with cutthroat which will send you straight behind and silencing them, ready for an auto attack which you then activate Noxian Diplomacy and followed up by Rake.
Escaping
cutthroat
For escaping in sticky situations, start off by activating shadow assault then run to the nearest enemy minion or jungle creep, getting as far away as possible from the enemy team.
Full Engage
cutthroat
Start by going in with cutthroat and auto attack with Noxian Diplomacy, toggle on Shadow Assault then use Rake and reactivate Shadow Assault. In my opinion, this is one, if not the sickest looking combos in the entire game when done extremely fast.
Sneaky Sneaky
cutthroat
For this one, begin by using Shadow Assault in an out-of-vision area, then dashing in with cutthroat and finish the enemy off with Noxian Diplomacy and Rake.
The Juke
cutthroat
This combo is for the ballsy people, who like to live on the edge with a sliver of HP. If you get caught in a team fights and people are chasing you towards a bush, you know you cant escape them, your flash is up, everything is off cool down except you ultimate, try this. Walk into the bush cutthroat onto the farthest target possible, use Rake to slow them, then Flash away.
Counters
Talon counters a lot of commonly played MID champions and is countered by a lot of commonly played TOP champions. So with that info most people will play talon MID and he is a very dominant counter pick in ranked, so I suggest you pick him up and learn him well.
Strong AgainstEasy peasy, Squishy as hell early game, and if you win early game he will never be a problem, your silence is instant, use yours before he uses his and you'll have no trouble Ok, she is squishy as hell, as long as you can stay on top of her and don't get hit her E all day you can win the lane every time. Another easy lane, as long as you don't get hit by her Charm you are pretty much good to go. One of the easiest lanes to win of all time, He is Squishy as hell, his ultimate is only super effective on AP casters, and if you silence him before he throws out his Event Horizon you are good to go. Medium difficulty lane, This match up truly depends on the skill of the player, for Katarina try to always be on the offense and make her feel like she has to play safe all the time, and silence her when you think she will try to all-in on you. I find that playing against Lissandra has been one of the esiest match ups for me, she has no defensive spell besides her ultimate, so if you can burst her down before she gets it or before she can use it, you'll be good to go. Weak AgainstLee Sin has 2 abilities that will allow him to see Talon when he uses Shadow Assault. He also has a shield that will reduce some of Talon's damage output. Pantheon has a stun that will render Talon useless if he doesn't silence Pantheon before he gets jumped on or doesn't do enough damage to scare him off. Riven also has a stun and a shield (kind of Talon's weaknesses) and with Riven's shield, it is very easy to block Talon's Rake. He's OP. Once again Diana has a shield. Passive shield and an active shield type thingy with his W. RULE OF THUMB: NEVER PLAY Talon TOP LANE |
