Champion Build Guide

Defensivity's S9 yorick guide

By Defensivity1
Grasp vs conqueror
Irelia Tryndamere Garen Aatrox Riven Renekton Wukong Jax Against these matchups run the grasp page

scroll up to builds and click on 2 for the runes against these champions you may need to base at level 4 or 5 and buy some cloth armors to survive the lane withouth getting dove and itemize thornmail>cleaver>

those matchups except previously mentioned Garen go with the triforce build against garen its best to go with the regulair core build which consists out of triforce>steraks

And against all other matchups that are not these i believe its best to go with conqueror page and go with triforce>steraks as core build.

Rune page 3 is experimental and i dont advise running these runes
Before level 6
Before level 6 you should be looking to mostly play safe and let the enemy push the wave towards you, the way you do this is by not attacking the minion wave at all,
except last hitting the low hp minions.

yorick is very weak before level 6 against most lanes so you might have to base at level 4 or 5.

if you are against a very difficult matchup in which grasp is a must or found yourselve despite it being a conqueror matchup just being poked down below 30% of your hp bar at those levels.

Tell your jungeler that you cant assist him in the river or you cant help him much with ganks if you have no ghouls or ping him danger
Level 6
At this point vsing any conqueror matchup you should definetly look to 1v1 your enemy laner and cage them up and spawn the maiden for a free kill.

Never be affraid to waste your ultimate as yorick, its better to waste it then to not use it at all and the maiden will help you push waves in so you can base with a cannon wave under the enemy's tower.
Sidelaning or Splitting?
So. you got the enemy t1 turret topside, your allies in the botlane got the botlane t1 turret

(T1 being the turret everyone has at the beginning, or the ones closest to your base but from the enemy team)

What will you do now? if you are behind look to push the wave in both toplane and botlane past the river, like the middle, having atleast 3 more minions pushing it past the river and potentially some ghouls.

now if you got priority, meaning you can do whatever with the wave and move first withouth losing any minions or experience or having them crash in to a tower your team possesses/owns when behind teamfighting is a safe option.

always buy pinkwards when you have the inventory space and cant buy something expensiver than 200 gold. try to be focussed on objectives vision and getting priority in the sidelanes.

or having ghouls push them out, now if at that moment ur pushing a sidewave in either toplane or bottom lane and ALL 5 enemies, not 4 but all 5 or 4 and an enemy you know you are strong enough to solo kill feel free to keep pushing down that lane and look to siege the tower if the enemies dont back off from fighting in mid or topside

once you dont see them anymore you have roughly 10seconds to siege the T2 turret safely, afther that run and base somewhere where you think you are safe
(experience required here)

If you dont see all 4 enemies or 5 mid, or you know you cant 1v2 or 1v3 or 1v1 and you see whichever 2 3 or 1 or more enemies on the map anymore that can pose a threath to you feel free to move back to a safe position.

till you either see them again or base and move to the opposing lane to get priority there or catch the wave that is crashing in to the opposing side's tower that belongs to your team.

Splitpushing should mainly be based off of you knowing where all enemy threaths are and it can be a bit complicated but it is something yorick excells at.
Invading the enemy jungle
You should be looking to invade the enemy jungle when you either see 4 enemies botlane and cant make a tp play, you cant get a tower anywhere and you know you can 1v1 your enemy laner when on 70% hp and ur full hp, look to give yourselve a gold advantage by farming the enemy jungeler's camps, you mainly want to do this if ur ahead or there is nobody on the side you are on that could pose a threath to you. this mainly comes down to experience and map awareness, together with a little bit of courage. and i dont mean the dog from the cartoon here.
About me
Hello, people reading this guide this is the about me section im 21 year old born in 1998 who plays a lot of league of legends.

enjoying various different champions in toplane and midlane mainly i see a lot of people struggle playing yorick or itemizing him which is where i decided to step in and make this little guide.

this guide should only be used to play yorick toplane i go by defensivity1 on twitch and defensivity on discord,

add questions below and i will do my best to answer them this guide only contains my personal experience and the answers to the problems i have found being up against various different enemies things that worked for me, which might not necessarily work for you but for me they did and i have been succesfull with it in my ranked games.

I am not the best yorick player or the highest elo one, but i certainly do have pretty good winrates and a lot of both fun and success playing Yorick in the toplane
any feedback is appreciated and i will consider making changes accordingly.

Oh and please thumbs up my guide if you like it or it has helped you, and share it with a friend aswell if possible.

Itemization, advise
For itemization, it comes down to prefference, but triforce is first item, i always like to build a ruby crystal first, which builds in to phage, and then sit on either a cloth armor or a null magic mantle.

and with sit on i mean keep it inside of your inventory untill you finished other items such as triforce and steraks both or steraks, or if ur doing the grasp page and armor items vs counters cleaver i always like to keep these items in my inventory.

also dont sell dorans shield if you dont need space in your inventory its still a good item to have untill you can finish your 5th or 6th item or need space for a pinkward

However, with itemization or build order it depends on prefferences, you want sheen first or phage or stinger? in the end it doesnt matter much despite they all give you a different advantage over the other, they are all good and if you go with grasp getting sheen first is highly recommanded because of the grasp and q synergy with sheen.

I sometimes also like to build 2 ruby crystals if im vs an ad laner and an ap jungeler and i would just keep it around untill triforce is finished and i start building in to steraks so, do whichever order you preffer as long as you follow 2 rules

#1 do not stack infinite t2 items,

Example: Stinger Sheen Phage Jaurim's fist Spectre's cowl Giant's belt
The reasoning for this is because T2 items give you a disadvantage because they dont give strong unique passives.

they give less armor or ad or attackspeed or mana whilst costing a lot more to build and it will delay your powerspikes the ones you get from full items.

however it would be okay to have stinger sheen phage and ruby crystal as it gives a lot of health for the 400 gold, despite it delaying your powerspike the extra health will be helpfull in surviving untill you have finished your triforce but it wouldnt be recommanded buying it when you otherwise could have finished triforce at that point in to the game.

#2 building items yorick doesnt have any synergy with, or cant use for example a rylai's or another ap item or building weird build orders, or not building triforce or steraks at all but instead doing something like full tank, whilst it might seem good to exclude expensiver items, they are worth the amount of gold and give you stronger powerspikes.

How i define weird build orders, if you can complete 2 t2 items, for example with triforce you can build sheen and phage, but instead you build sheen or phage and sapphire crystal then ruby crystal dagger dagger.

or maybe another way to build it where you avoid getting the phage or sheen when you can buy both of them, exception to this rule is needing mr vs 3ap champions or really being in need of a cloth armor for some reason like items that dont go towards the big item ur looking to build, however dont do this instead of completing said full item.
Clarifying confusing things
Synergies does not mean that its an ideal matchup to be up against
Before you judge the champions i put at threaths you should really look through them individually

vayne being put as a threath doesnt mean that she is a threath to be up against in lane as specified at threaths its moreso lategame.

so before disharmonizing the guide take a look through it and i may have to word some things differently to make them simpeler to understand or remove them from threaths and make a different section about how to play around these champions not sure.

any feedback is appreciated even if negative and i might use this section to explain some frequently asked things later on.
