Introduction
Welcome to my second official guide on Mobafire, this time covering the coolest dragon champion you will ever know: Shyvana.
After playing her for quite a few games - and against other players as well - I decided to compile a guide for those who are really interested in playing this champion - and let's face it, everyone wants to play as a dragon - in hopes that it will help create a more viable option for them.
Don't get me wrong, Shyvana is not the easiest champion to master, as it takes a lot of willpower to keep yourself from ulting every time you see an enemy on the map...that, and she plays more like an assassin early to mid game than anything else, so you have to be careful how you use her abilities and when you decide to gank for kills.
Hopefully, with a few tips I've picked up along the way, we'll have you on the right track in no time!
FURY OF THE DRAGONBORN
Shyvana's melee attacks enhance her abilities
- Twin Bite| Reduces the cooldown by .5 seconds
- Burnout| Extends the duration by 1 second up to a maximum of 6
- Flame Breath| Deal's 15% of the ability's damage to debuffed targets
- Dragon's Descent| Attacks generate 2 Fury and Shyvana passively gains Fury over time while in human form
TWIN BITE
Shyvana strikes twice on her next attack
DRAGON FORM: Twin Bite cleaves all units in front of Shyvana
Deals 80/85/90/95/100 physical damage + a % of attack damage
Max this ability second, as it is your main damage output skill. The only reason you don't max it first, is because the importance of Burnout is much greater.
- This ability resets your attacks
- Use this ability after hitting the enemy champion with your Flame Breath for added damage
- Don't be afraid to spam this ability in the jungle! You have no mana after all, and it helps you clear faster
BURNOUT
Shyvana surrounds herself in fire dealing magic damgage per second to nearby enemies and moving faster for 3 seconds. The movement speed reduces over the duration of the spell
DRAGON FORM: Burnout scorches the earth beneath Shyvana, enemies on the scorched earth continue to take damage
Deals 40/55/70/85 (+.2 per bonus attack damage) and increases movement speed by 30/35/40/45/50%
Max this ability first, as it is your main jungling skill. The consistent and spammable magic damage is what makes Shyvana such a viable jungler.
- This ability is great for chasing or intiating ganks
- In a team fight, this should be spammed heavily
- Don't be afraid to spam this ability in the jungle! You have no mana after all, and it helps you clear faster
- Basically, don't do anything without this ability on! :D
FLAME BREATH
Shyvana releases a fireball the deals damage to the first enemy it encounters and leaves cinders the reduces their armor for 4 seconds
DRAGON FORM: Flame Breath engulfs all units in a cone in front of her
Deals 80/125/170/215/260(+.6 per ability power) and reduces armor by 15%
Max this ability last, as we're only truly using it for the armor reduction and that doesn't increase per level.
- This ability is good for keeping enemy champions at bay
- The armor reduction of this ability paired with armor penetration runes gives Shyvana a good amount of armor penetration early game
- Don't be afraid to spam this ability in the jungle! You have no mana after all, and it helps you clear faster
- Try to lead with this ability in team fights or ganks to give yourself that extra edge
DRAGON'S DESCENT
Shyvana transforms into a dragon and takes flight to a target location. Enemies along her path take damage and are knocked toward the target location
DRAGON FORM: Defensive bonuses are doubled in dragon form
Deals 200/300/400(+70% of ability power)
Max this ability whenever you can - levels 6, 11, 16 - as it can mean the difference between kills escaping, you escaping, or victory in a team fight
- This ability is great for escaping. Think of it as an incredibly awesome flash if you find yourself in trouble and need to get away. Yes, you can activate it to fly over walls.
- The push power of this ability is great for ganking enemies who are too close to your turrets. Find a way to get behind them, and activate Dragon's Descent to push them into your tower
- Activating this ability puts a rather large target on your head, so don't be surprised if you get focused immediately afterward
- Try to save this ability in team fights until you need to use it. Preferably, when all of the other team's abilites are spend and are waiting for cooldowns.
- As far as I can tell, Dragon's Descent does not disrupt other champions' ultimates - trust me...I tried breaking up Fiddlesticks once...didn't work.
FIRST BUY
The life steal % is great for clearing camps quickly and efficiently.
ALTERNATIVE FIRST BUY
Clothe armor is good if you find you have trouble jungling or you don't like walking around in your jungle with no health. It's the safest approach.
SECOND BUY
Next, pick up your Boots and a few Health Potion to set yourself up for the ganking phase of your jungling. The extra health potions are to ensure that you have enough to carry out a successful gank.
THE CORE
Mercury's Treads give Shyvana the added boost in magic resist and helps reduce the effect of CC during ganks. Wriggle's Lantern gives you a good bit of armor and some attack damage - plus that awesome minion slaying proc. Wit's End delivers your attack speed and some key magic resist.
THE ENABLERS
Frozen Mallet is great on Shyvana because of her lack of any CC. It's so frustrating to see a low health enemy get away because your Burnout was on cooldown. After I have damage items I build Aegis of the Legion for my team just to pull my weight and help us win teamfights. Atma's Impaler is for the damage and the armor. A lot of teams go AD heavy these days, so it's best to have as much armor as you can.
ALTERNATIVE
OR
These finishing items are more so for the games where you and the enemy team seem to be at a stalemate.
Considering the new Jungle - and the recent hotfix - I will be playing a few games to find out which routes are easiest and provide you with the most experience. Until that time, this section is pretty much
List of ENEMY Junglers that you should be extra careful about (Ongoing WIP):
Seemingly born to slay dragons - and just about everyone else on the map - Master Yi can easily go into your jungle and take what he wants, fight you, kill you, and walk away like it never happened. Early levels, you stand a fighting chance, but as soon as he starts building his attack speed...well, it's game over from there. Ward to steer clear of Yi - that's about all I can say to do.
Though I haven't gotten into a fight with Fiddlesticks in the part of the jungle I was in, I did find one game that he had stolen the other half while I was ganking a lane. Not cool. He's a shady guy, and can probably kill you with his Fear/Drain/Silence combo pretty easily.
Xin Zhao is broken, got it? It's not the best idea to 1v1 him in an isolated part of the map.
That's all I can think of for now. More to come later!

Cool! So that's about it! Go ahead and tell me what you think down there in the comments, I'd love to hear some feedback or discuss some finer points of the build if you have any questions!
It's a pretty short guide, I know, but that's because I can't really explain how to get a feel for Shyvana. My only advice is to play a few games with her - get the auto-ulting out of your system - and learn the nuances through practice! Good luck to you all!
