So, i am a little bit more experienced with making guides now so i hope they actually ARE improving. Anyways,
Welcome to my guide on how to play Zed, The Master Of Shadows! Zed is a really fun champion to play with high damage output and incredible plays. Zed is and AD Assassin wich uses Energy and Shadows to slay his opponents. Zed is able to deal massive damage and execute an full health enemy in a couple seconds. His mechanics are very fun to play with, as you can just burn a enemys flash by using the right combination of abilities.

I recommend taking Ignite as this is a great combination with Death Mark. I have had enough situations where my enemy survives with 10 hp instead of giving me First Blood, while a champion as Zed can't miss the money. Just to make sure that you dont end with a low amount of kills, wich result in low gold income and low damage, i highly recommend taking this.

More plays and better escapes. If you like to play with ur opponent in a situation ur sure u will die, try using Death Mark on him, then going for Living Shadow across the wall and as soon as he Flashes to you activate Death Mark again. If its a champion with another blink ability like Ezreal's Arcane Shift or something, just use ur Flash over the wall AGAIN and ur saved!

For Masteries, i recommend going 25/5/0, taking Attack Damage, Attack Speed and Cooldown Reduction in Offense and Health Regeneration, Armor, Magic Resistance and Health in Defense.

For runes, i recommend taking Armour Seals, Attack Damage Marks, Magic Resistance Glyphs and Attack Damage and Lifesteal Quintessences.
In total you should get 12.69 Armour, 10.80 Attack Damage, 12.06 Magic Resistance, and 5.12 Armor Penetration.

His passive is Contempt for the Weak, Zed's autoattacks against targets below 50% health will deal 6/8/10% of their maximum health as Magic Damage. The amount of the damage increases at Lvl 7 and 17.

Razor Shuriken is his Q. Zed fires a (skillshot!) 'Ninja Star' or Shuriken at a target location. This is not stopped by hitting a target and will go through enemys.

Living Shadow makes Zed send out a shadow to target location, this shadow will mimic all of Zed's abilitys and Zed is able to switch locations with it (only 1 time!).

His E is Shadow Slash. Zed spins around, dealing damage in a small area around him, and slowing all enemys he hits by 20/25/30/35/40% for 1.5 Seconds.

Death Mark is Zed's ultimate. Zed dashes to a target enemy champion, creating a shadow behind it and adding a mark to the target. After 3 seconds the mark will detonate, dealing 100% of ur Attack Damage plus 20/35/50% of the damage that Zed and his shadow have done to his target. The shadow does damage and Zed is able to switch places with it for 1 time, just as with Living Shadow. Note that this attack makes Zed untargettable, so u CAN use this to dodge attacks such as another Death Mark, Super Mega Death Rocket!, Trueshot Barrage, and other things.

I prefer starting with a Long Sword and 2 Health Potions. Zed's damage output is really high anyways, so adding a Long Sword to that will make this even better.


On your first back start building your Blade of the Ruined King. Try to pick up a Bilgewater Cutlass if possible. If not, take another Long Sword or Vampiric Scepter.


Sometimes u come back from a ur lane and u have lots of gold with you, then you should first finish your Blade of the Ruined King and then upgrade your Boots to Mobility Boots. This will help you catch up with enemys, have fair attack speed and attack damage, and some lifesteal to survive longer.


The fun begins! Once u get ur B. F. Sword ur damage will increase massivly. Buy a Long Sword or a Vampiric Scepter on top of that and start building into your Bloodthirster.


These choices are all offensive, and as i prefer to play Offensive Zed, i have all of them core, beside the Ravenous Hydra.


As defensive choices, i prefer Maw of Malmortius or Guardian Angel, as i get the following situation A LOT: So we do a teamfight, i use Death Mark to dodge an ability and i get Ignited. They all know im going to die so they leave me alone and turn to my team, as the Ignite kills me the final second. A Maw of Malmortius or a Guardian Angel would have saved me in that scenario, so i highly recommend taking Maw of Malmortius or Guardian Angel if you are new to Zed or not that good.

Final Build

A basic Zed combo is Death Mark, followed by spamming Razor Shuriken and Shadow Slash. Allthough Death Mark does damage equal to a % of the damage Zed did to that target. So, in my opinion is Death Mark -> Living Shadow and THEN spamming Razor Shuriken and Shadow Slash a better move, because that way Zed is able to have 2 shadows wich both do damage, so your Death Mark will do a lot more damage.

Basic poke combo is Living Shadow near your target, and very quickly Razor Shuriken and Shadow Slash. This combo does really high damage and can bring ur target low enough for a Death Mark combo (see first combo).
