The Jungle Route
Jax's usual ganking strategy is to cast Counter Strike(E) > Empower (W) > Leap Strike(Q) > Recast Counter Strike. If you find yourself getting caught out by champions who rely on auto attacks, don't re-cast counter strike. Be sure to use Empower as an auto-attack reset if possible. Additionally, if you are ganking a champion who would have a dash to dodge counter strike, it could be a good idea to wait until they use their dash until you use leap strike.
These are some of the smaller quirks that you will only use in rare-ish situations. 1). Getting Leap Strike 2nd: Getting Leap Strike second is a useful asset when invading at the enemy Jungler's 2nd buff camp. 2). Saving Empower until after Leap Strike: This is for when your teammates have high CC, or against a champion with very low mobility and escape (Like Jhin), as you will want to save for a auto-attack reset (This is especially strong at/after level 6). 3). Saving Leap Strike in ganks: This trick is something that is really useful for catching out enemies who have a dash/jump/blink, when fighting against certain champions, you will run into some who will save their dash so they can avoid the stun on Counter Strike. The simple solution for this is to save your Leap Strike until they use their mobility spell (This only works if you get close enough to stun them).
