I hope this guide will help all of you aspiring Ezreal players!
This is a work in progress (obviously).
Pro's
Con's
All in all, Ezreal makes for an awesome ap burster, doing so with very low cooldowns and at great range. If played correctly, enemies will never even see you/get close to you while you are harrassing/nuking them down until it is too late.
- Insane burst
- Every skill does high damage.
- Very fun to play
- Great escape artist due to double flash
- Low cooldown poking
Con's
- Squishy
- Needs skill (quite a lot)
- REALLY needs to pay attention to earlygame (pre-lichbane) lasthitting

This setup gives me a nice base amount of AP, some AP/lvl and 10 Mpen.

Summoner spells
For summoner spells I will most of the time run with

Allows for your laning phase to run smoothly, making you not miss out on xp/gold like you otherwise would.

It's just awesome, it allows you to make that double flash in those clutch situations, be it for a chase or an escape. Also allows you to unload your combo on a squishy/lowie right in front of their team and still be able to flash back to safety.
Other options:

If you are unsure about your sniping skills, this could come in handy. I recommend this as a pick for supports though.

Skilling order
After lvl 1 we make sure to max out W first, then E. Offcourse take your ultimate whenever available. This build order allows for maximum AP damage output while not making your sheen/lichbane Q's go to waste.
Over the past year I had many different item build orders for my AP ezreal, the one I am currently having very much success with will be explained here, but I will also post some alternate orders.
After these items it depends on what you need. I will often build me a
Morello's Evil Tome for it's cooldown reduction.
Need some slows and hp? Get a
Rylai's Crystal Scepter. Need more magic resist? Get
Banshee's Veil or
Abyssal Mask.
Anywhere in between these items you should buy HP potions if you have some money to spare, it is best when you can keep yourself at maximum hp at all times since you are so very squishy.
When you are not very experienced with Ezreal yet you will probably be better off skipping the Soulstealer. It's not hard to stay alive and keeping your stacks up if you know what you are doing, but on the other hand it is also not hard being a dummy and getting yourself killed with this champion.
This build also requires you to really pay attention to your early game farm, as well as some good mana management. Do not spam your skills unnecessarily, use your W to harras and your auto-attacks for last hitting, whenever you miss a last hit use your Q to catch it.
If you find yourself not being good at managing your mana and not having blue buff as often as you'd like, you can opt to take a
Tear of the Goddess after your sheen. This will offcourse build into an
Archangel's Staff later in the game, which will give you a great AP boost.
People skipping the Mejai's should build straight for rabadon after sheen, since your damage will be lackluster if you don't. You could also just buy the
Needlessly Large Rod first and then continue building the
Lich Bane.
Build 1
Doran's Ring - Start you off with some Hp, Ap, and mana regen. All 3 are things you need.
Boots
Sheen - Gives you some more AP and mana as well as increasing Q damage = win.
Mejai's Soulstealer - Easy to stack with your AOE skills, you can stay escape anything if you play properly.
Sorcerer's Shoes - Mpen
Lich Bane - Q will start hitting like a truck. Core item.
Rabadon's Deathcap - Giant increase to your overall AP, making you a sniping powerhouse

I allways play Ezreal on mid. He needs the farm and just can't get it on a side-lane. Harrass the enemy with your
Essence Flux and last hit as much as possible with your auto-attacks. If you have harrased the enemy properly you can go in for a kill at level 4.
Flash over minions and hit your
Arcane Shift
Essence Flux
Mystic Shot combo, they won't know what hit them.
When you hit level 6 you can watch sidelanes and if you have the advantage on mid, leave lane and gank.

What is AP Ezreal's role in a teamfight?
Before a teamfight starts out, you will want to be poking at the enemy champions, preferably from a spot where they can't see it coming. Keep those Q's and W's flying over the walls to chunk their HP down by a lot before the fight has even started. Once your tank has initiated or when you see an oppurtunity to burst someone down, use your E skill to flash in (this can go through walls, so if target is close enough to your hiding spot, you wont even have to flash over the wall) unload your QWE on him and back out again. Keep spamming your skills at their team, you can do so at quite a large range so you wont really have to endanger yourself by alot.
If you think your team really needs a boost, fire your ultimate over their team, otherwise save it to snipe off runners. This thing does scary damage and can chunk the enemy down from 100% to anywhere between 30 and 80% depending on their tankyness. It is also great for getting your mejai's stacked because with proper positioning can hit their entire team, giving you a load of assists as well as a kill or two.
Your W skill is very powerfull in teamfights. It is probably one of the strongest non-ultimate area of effect damage moves, and will also buff your teammates and debuff your enemies, so a well placed shot over your/their carries can turn the outcome of a fight.
So to sum it up;
- Stay at distance dealing massive damage with constant W-Q-Q-W barrages.
- If sure about your team or see a safe way to do so, use E to damage/close gaps/finish off anyone
- Go for their squishies first. Teemo, caithlin and ashe can all be burst down in one proper EWQ combo if you have played a nice game.
- Allways try to use Q last in any combo, it will make your cooldowns refresh faster.
Ezreal is great at escaping.
That is just a fact that makes me love him even more. With double flash you become even more of a pain to catch.
When running from your enemies, try to be creative with the flashing. One thing I commonly do is juke through the brush, and right when they enter just flash back the other way. If done properly, you can even get a kill off while you are escaping.
If you have enough distance, but they are still closing in on you, fire a few Q's to get your E off of cooldown again. This will make it have a deceptively low cooldown, making you feel allmost like a full fledged
Kassadin who happens to have a homing missile attached to his flash.
