Herro, I'm WhatsLeft4Dead or Currently Known in NA as 12iot Sam <--- I was bored.
Garen was once upon a time, my starting champion. I hit that **** like a Vice Grip to a Nail in a Tire...or something? Losing bot games and going support....boy oh boy those were the days... Heh, then Riot kicked it up a notch and completely gutted the old meta and opened up a whole new can of whoop *** that we're currently about to discuss and get in to with this here featured guide on How to mess **** up wichya boiiii!!!! Sammy Salsa Verde ChimiChanga Headass Duder.
Pros / Cons
-Is an All Game Tank.
-Still has his good ol' Decisive Strike to help him get in and out of fights.
-Now has the Passive that Marks Enemies With High Sprees for Justice.
-Passive Perseverance allows Quick Health Regen.
-Only Mobility is his Decisive Strike.
-Silence Duration Was Nerfed along with a few of his other abilities making it a tad bit more difficult to destroy early without thinking first.
-Can just as easily be shut down by CC as well as he Puts out CC.
Greater Quintessence of Attack Speed
Greater Quintessence of Movement Speed
Greater Mark of Attack Damage
Greater Seal of Armor
Greater Glyph of Magic Resist
Quintessence of Attack Speed: Reduces The Time It Takes for your Decisive Strike to hit an enemy; It follows your auto attack speed.
The rest are self explanatory honestly.....
Doran's Shield - The essential starting Item on alot of Top Lane Champions, recommended by the great Rito itself. This is the item you want to buy first if you are not confident in the lane you are going to be up against. It gives you 80 Health, 6 Starting Health Regen, and Blocks 8 Damage from Single Target Spells or Basic Attacks.
Doran's Blade - Grab this sucker here if you think you can stand a chance in making out plays in the Pre-6, doesn't have the Good starting Defense the Doran's Shield Has, but it can get the job done if you play right. It gives you 7 Attack Damage, 70 Health, and 3 Life Steal. Be careful if you buy this.
Long Sword - This is for a "I know I can walk in there and tear **** up" kind of lane. You are sacrificing all forms of Defense going for a PowerHouse start. Long Sword gives you a Whopping(Sike) 10 Damage! Unbelievable!!!! Just don't **** this one up, ok?
The Black Cleaver - This Item allows for an early Tankier Approach Garen while allowing him to burst down his Targets. On to the goods about the Item. The The Black Cleaver gives 40 Attack Damage, 20% Cool Down Reduction, and 400 Health. The Unique Passives': Dealing Physical Damage to the Target reduces their armor by 5% for 6 Seconds. The effect stacks up to 6 times for a max of 30% Armor Reduction, Amazing Right? The second Unique Passive allows for an extra movement speed boost of 20 and 60 if you kill a target.
Titanic Hydra - It gives 50 Attack Damage, 400 Health and 100% base Health Regen, so you see why I think this is a good item on Garen. The Unique Passive "Cleave" Allows for more damage dealt based on how much Health you have. There are two parts to this passive though, The first one is allowing you to deal single target damage while dealing a cone attack damage at the same time, the other part is that it scales a good amount of damage on your Max Health. You deal 5 + 1% of your Max Hp in damage to the Target you are hitting while dealing 40 + 2.5% of your Max Hp in damage. This cone damage does not affect your Target, so be careful. Now we move onto its Active: Crescent Improves the damage dealt with the Cleave passive by 40 + 10% of your Max Health in a Cone Shape behind them. (10%!!!) in a Larger Cone. Again, the cone does not affect the Primary Target but those around Him/Her.
Dead Man's Plate - This bad boy right her' is pretty nice on Garen, boosting his Basic attack by 100(This also works for your Decisive Strike since it counts as an Empowered Basic Attack). Anyways, Dead Man's Plate Gives you 55 Armor, and 600 Health. This is the part that gets good. It has two passives which Enable a Champion to Derp Laning Phase into Team Fights. The first Passive is: Dreadnought: You gain Momentum by walking around.(Kinda like the same build up for Yasuo's Way of the Wanderer's Passive "Resolve"). It will start crumbling the Momentum gained if you are caught in any form of Crowd Control. Now to the Second Passive: Crushing Blow. Crushing Blow happens on the Release of all the Momentum Stacked up. It is 1 AD for every 2 Stacks, if it is 100 Stacks the Damage is Doubled and slows the unlucky Scrub Mc Dub down by 75%. And since you are Garen, walking around shouldn't be too much of a challenge for you, right?
Frozen Mallet - Can be used as Garen's little toy hammer he can beat people to death with. Gives you 30 Attack Damage, 700 Health and an Incredibly annoying slow of 40% that lasts for 1.5 seconds if the target escapes.
Sunfire Cape - Gives 45 Armor, 450 Health and deals 40 Magic damage + your Level in a radius of 400 around you in True Damage. Which can stack particularly high if your opponent stays to fight.....
Randuin's Omen - A pretty decent Item on any Tank, most commonly used. Gives you 60 Armor, and 400 Health. The Passive is that when Someone hits you with a Basic attack, their attack speed is slowed by 15% for 1 second and decreases Crit damage dealt to you by 10%. The Active slows a Targets Movement Speed in an AOE Radius of 500 by 35% for 4 seconds.
Spirit Visage - Not a bad item for Garen, I mean, it boosts his healing pretty damn well balancing out between Defense and Utility. Gives 10 Cooldown Reduction, 400 Health, and 60 Magic Resist. The passive Increases all Heals and Self Heals and Drain Effect on Yourself by 20%. Also gives a good 150% Health Regen.
Banshee's Veil - Provides you with 450 Health and 60 Magic Resist. Passively Granting you 100% Base Health Regen and a Shield that Absorbs a Single Enemy Ability. The Shield refreshes itself after taking 0 Damage for 40 Seconds.
Warmog's Armor - This was and still can be an Essential Item on Garen. It granted him 800 Health, 200% Base Health Regen, and the passive "Warmog's Heart" which Restores 3% of his missing Health per second(Stacking with his passive Perseverance), but you only get the Passive IF you have over 3000 Max Health.
Wanna Max your Judgment First as always for the wave clear. Seeing as to how this was nerfed a bit, you can alternatively Max out his Decisive Strike, but that's if you are going a more Ban Hammer Style.
Judgment does not have the normal 6 ticks now during his spin, but instead gains an extra tick every 3 levels. Also Deals more damage with his Judgment on a solo target.
Max your Decisive Strike Second for the Increased Silence Duration and Damage.
The Duration was Nerfed a Bit in this New Patch so I can understand why you would want to max this out first if you so choose.
Decisive Strike lost nearly a second of Silence Duration in this patch. Level it up first if you want to increase the Duration and Damage, but the Single Target Damage Potential on his Judgment should be good enough alone.
Max your Courage Third. Courage was Nerfed a tad bit then given a Late Game Buff. Removing all bonus Armor and Magic Resist buffs but allowing you to gain it all back by farming. Think of it as Sion but with Armor/Magic Resist.
Courage lost the Passive Bonus Tenacity, Magic Resist, and Armor and was replaced with a built in stacking system. For every minion you farm, you gain .25 Armor/Magic Resist and gain +1 for every Champion Kill. For the best chances of use for the Passive. Focus Single Targets or your "Villain". You deal More Damage to Single Targets.
I will explain your new Demacian Justice Passive here:
Demacian Justice is well know for the "Execution" ability. Like Darius's Ultimate Noxian Guillotine it can end a life in 1 fatal blow. Unlike Darius's Ult, Demacian Justice Deals damage based on how much Health the Target is Missing(1 damage for every 3.5/3/2.5 health missing) which is pretty huge. Now the New passive which allows a "Villain" to be selected turns Garen's Demacian Justice Into a True Damage Ult. Again, ONLY the VILLAIN will be hit with the True damage. The Villain is Selected by whichever enemy team player has the highest killing spree. Once Garen is locking swords with that person, He deals Increased damage(1% of their current HP). Another target cannot be selected if Garen is fighting another Enemy. So you gotta move the heck out if ya wanna get that damage back in.
Note: You can Level up Decisive Strike and Judgment Together if you wish, since they will both be doing alot of Damage in the EndGame. The level up Sequence for this is as Follows:
The Alternative Skill Set if you wish to Max Decisive Strike first:
Flash - Garen doesn't really have an Escape next to his Decisive Strike, so I recommend having this on you at ALL Times.
Ghost - Like I said with Flash, Garen doesn't have alot of Mobility so you want to do the best you can with whatever resources that RitoPlz Left you with. You can use this Spell to chase a fleeing target, or to initiate/escape with your Decisive Strike, or speed up your Judgment Movement Speed.(Yea, your *** gets slow when you try to go Sanic Sideways, It makes sense.)
Teleport - I recommend this with Flash. It gives you a better Map/Objective Secure Presence that your team will thank you for in the EndGame. If they Don't, then they can get some of that Demacian Justice like the rest of the Plebs.
Ignite - Take this if you are going to try for an Early Kill. I don't really see myself using it since I'm a Passive Aggressive player, but I have seen it work with Garen in the past, and nothing much has really Changed on Garen.
Heal - I won't lie, this wouldn't be such a terrible choice. It buffs your regen and can possibly save your *** a few times while boosting your movement speed. Why not?
Barrier - Erm, I don't see a reason to take this unless you plan on going Heavy Aggressive. Maybe tank a Shot or Two?
Exhaust = Ehhh, why? Oh that's right, I needed to bring Aatrox's Attack Speed down a Notch so my Team will man up and fight with me.
Creeping The Jungles Early
Mate, you're Garen. Level 1 you can start your E - Judgement and reduce those wolves to ***. Start Q - Decisive Strike if you are going Gromp.
Don't forget that once you take the wolf or gromp camps, either head back to lane or back and buy some more pots.
CAUSE POTS MATTER TOO MAN!
When it get's that time when you need to hit er up and knock em dead....stick close to your carry. Trust me, you'll know who your carry is once the carry decides to carry your carry, alrighty Sherry?
You want to be there to TAKE A HIT! You got a FREE DAMAGE RESISTANCE ABILITY FOR CHRISTS SAKE! Bruh, so get in there and tank a Braum Q, or get those ADC's to auto you...hell, piss Zed off. I mean, you're Godzilla afterall.....
PROTECT. YOUR. CARRIES. PLAIN AND SIMPLE....YOUR SUPPORT IS A CARRY TOO.
Your Decisive Strike should work well here. Get it at level 1 and farm away. Remember that you don't use mana so don't save your abilities! HIT THAT **** MAN!!!
Lemme tell you about your ultimate farming tool you unlock at level 2 - Judgment.
Spin to win the minions then spin to win the enemy laners. Ez Pasta.
Conclusion + Coming Soon!!!
-Will add Match Ups Section
EDIT: Will be adding all champions over time to the Match Up Section. That is 126 Champions, thus is the reason I will do it over time. Once it's done I shall update them accordingly with every rework.
Thank you guys for Checking out my Guide on How to Heavily Out-Sword the Top Lane. If you Liked the Build/Guide, throw me a +1. I will be continuously working on this guide an a few others of mine in an Attempt to help other Individuals who wish to Derp The Top/Jungle Lanes.
