Lucian
Runes: Grasp, Demolish, Second Wind, Overgrowth, Biscuits, Time Warp Tonic, Double Adaptive, Armor. Start of lane passive auto minion for grasp, don't leash. What to get on first back: Doran's blade When fighting lucian you basically have to fight for your life. What you have to understand when playing gangplank against these champions is that you get hard destroyed but you have to fight back, you cannot concede from level one. Every q must be on lucian, every barrel is on lucian. If lucian has e don’t even bother to try to hit him with a barrel unless you know for a fact it’ll land. Don’t place barrels when he has his abilities up since he can easily break them with his passive. Even if lucian doesn’t kill you solo, you need to be aware of the enemy jungler. Every jungler will always play for the lucian lane in this matchup. Get vision, ask your jungler to help with counter ganks. At level 6 you can’t have the wave setup in lucian’s favor otherwise he’ll just e auto and r you down. A good tip for when lucian uses ult is to run to the side. Going early tabi’s is nice and phage instead of sheen is also good. Outside of laning phase lucian just outscales you. There’s a small window for you to win. When he has two items you can look to pick him off but after that it’s just doomed. End the game asap before this happens.

Hey guys I'm gangplank main, I'm a high elo gangplank one trick who has been playing the same champion for about 3 years and I have over 2.5 million mastery points. The point of this guide is to teach you how to play every toplane match up. What we will be discussing will be stuff like what items to buy, power spikes, what champions you beat and what champions beat you, what to do in bad match ups and much more.

Runes
As for runes you’ll be running grasp into every matchup, conqueror has gotten so many nerfs that the rune isn’t worth it anymore.

Grasp
Great for

Amazing rune for

Another great rune for

Horrible rune and probably the worst. You don’t build any extra armor or magic resist to help improve this rune or need the extra 10 base stats it gives. But mostly this rune is poor for

So basically every rune in this tree is just horrible, but overgrowth is alright since it increases your health pool by like 100-200 every game.

I would use this rune when going against matchups you can easily scale. Matchups like

Must have rune for

Fantastic rune to help with early game sustain and pressure. The sudden burst of health it can provide can help with baiting the enemy or surviving from a Damage over Time affect.
ABILTIIES

Does 55-225 True damage ( based on level ) ( +100% AD Ratio ) over 2.5 seconds.
It’s a 15 second cooldown and what it does is every time your sword is on fire your next auto does True damage over time and gives you a sudden burst of movement speed for two seconds. This passive resets every time you break a barrel You would use this to get your grasp proc, to close gaps, to escape, or mobility

This is a global aoe magic damage ultimate that slows the enemies that are in the circle. Now for every 500 silver serpents you can choose one of these three upgrades.

Fire at Will
Over the duration of the ult you can do an additional of 6 waves.
You Would buy this upgrade if your team has good lockdown for you to get those additional waves in, or against champions that are immobile.

Increases the movement speed of your allies by 30% for 2 seconds.
Would recommend going this upgrade first if your team needs the movement speed due to lack of their mobility, or helping them increase their gap closers.
Champions like master yi, reksai, hecarim and much more.

A small circle in the center of your ultimate that does true damage and slows the enemy for 60%
One of the worst upgrades to go on gangplank. The upgrade hasn’t been the same since season 7 with

Items

Best starting item for

Doran’s Blade
Good item to get if your back is around 475-600 gold. Will only go this item when going against aggressive laners or in matchups you need to be aggressive in. Examples will be like

Great scaling item for matchups that just lets you free farm and you don’t have to worry about the laning phase.
Executioner’s
Going this item sucks for

Tabis into bruisers, heavy ad, or a lot of auto attackers on enemy team
Mercury Treads
Mercury treads into heavy ap.

The item for

Great second item for

Second or third item for

You would only build this item as a 3rd or 4th. Very cheap item and you only need it for the crit and shield. Once you get this item you’re able to duel so many people.
Sterak’s Gage
Good second item if you’re going against a lot of assassins or bruisers.
Lord Dominik’s Regards
Build this item 4th or 5th when going against team comps that are building a lot of armor.

This item is great when going against heavy sustain team comps. Just like Lord Dominik’s Regards you would build this 4th or 5th item.
Statik Shiv
Alright item to build after infinity edge and phantom dancer if you need more crit in a super fast paced game. I don’t build this often but it’s for those niche situations.
Barrel Combos
When playing

You can also use this combo like this.
https://i.gyazo.com/82b2138f50b4a6259c46b71aafca25ac.mp4
You would use this combo to help you disengage or let's say you’re fighting someone and they’re on top of you. You can quickly one part into you, landing your barrels and quickly getting a double passive auto proc onto them.
Another combo you can do with one parting is the flash one part.
https://i.gyazo.com/b3f71665e348284064133b94cd8ab2a0.mp4
Haven’t done this combo that much but this can be used to close the distance onto your enemy to follow up with your barrel or flashing away to avoid abilities.
Three Part

Bread and butter combo on

https://i.gyazo.com/a9cb0d9a1ae1861bf7cb57abd6706262.mp4
This is the flash three part and you would use this combo when chasing the enemy and you need to use your flash for a successful three part.
https://i.gyazo.com/ed3d979d6cf51ded9510dbd40ddeefb0.mp4
Melee three part is when you do a three part without using q, to do this you need to be in front of your initial barrel and your third barrel needs to be placed diagonally. I normally use this when my q is on cooldown or in very low levels.
There are other

Tips
Tip #1 When eating biscuits it’s best to consume them when you have low health and mana since they regenerate 10% missing health and mana. Though the moment you consume a biscuit you instantly get 50 mana,
Tip #2 Use biscuits to bait your enemies. Let's say you don’t have any mana to cast w and you’re near death. You can bait your opponent to jump onto you to give them that false hope of a free kill. You quickly pop ur biscuit for that free 50 mana then consume your orange. This can be helpful to bait a jungle gank or summoner spells.
Tip #3 Junglers. When going against your laner you also need to understand their jungler. You need to keep a habit of enemy junglers pathing. Rek’sai is more likely to 3 camp gank top or some other lane.

Tip #4 When using barrels to poke your laner, make sure it doesn’t hit the wave or else the wave will slow push into their tower and depending on the matchup this can be pretty bad since they can develop a freeze and zone you of xp and gold.
Tip #5 All lifeline items don't stack with each other.

Tip #6 If your first back is 900 gold it’s not bad to go double dorans blade. This is only good for aggressive matchups. You get a decent amount of early game stats that can assist you in the laning phase.
Tip #7 Let's say you’re behind as
