Katarina's laning phase is a lot slower than any other. In the laning phase you want to control the outcome of the laning and how much poke you can give or take. That's why Dark seal and Refillable or boots and potions is ideal for any and each match up.

In the items you want to prioritize getting Gunblade or Zhonya's Hourglass first item depending on how far ahead of or behind you are. If you are behind then get Zhonya's. if you are ahead get Gunblade. Then after your boot decision get the other one.

Now you wanna decide on getting either more ap, defensive items or situational items. Personally I never use defensive items except for Guardian Angel. Why is that? Because of Gunblade you have an easy sustain in lane and fights. I personally enjoy being aggressive and establishing dominance in lane. You can always go with armor items like Randuin's Omen or Guardian Angel.

If you have an enemy team with 4 AP and 1 AD get Spirit Visage and/or Adaptive Helm. Adaptive Helm is effective against Brand, Teemo and Casseopeia. If that's not your cup of tea then Maw of Maliciousness can save you. I personally suggest Spirit Visage because it increases the healing of your Gunblade while fighting.
