Champion Build Guide

Kha'Zix Mid

By xStormyx
Intro
Hello! If you're reading this, it's too late. You are now going to play Kha'Zix mid. It is an infection; I'm sorry. I love this build so much, it is my pet project and I've been working on it on and off for a long time. I hear it used to be a thing in season 3-ish, when kha'zix first came out, but I started playing season 4 so I wasn't around then.
Laning
Anyways, let's start with laning. Kha'Zix isn't terribly strong in lane, and you might have a bit of a tough time, especially against other assassins who could very well kill you by hitting level 2/3 power spikes. The trick to getting good trades is getting away from the enemy minion wave, where you can have your opponent isolated for that sweet sweet q damage. It's very hard for people to compete with your q burst when you have them alone, but if your lane opponent is good they won't give you very many opportunities for this. One way to lure people away from the wave is by leaving obvious pink wards in the river bushes, and ambushing them when they try to clear it out ("position for ambush" :P ). If you can get an early kill (or two) on your laner, you get to snowball SUPEr hard and often will just win lane outright very easily after that. However, if you are losing or going even in lane, it's time to start roaming.
Roaming
Now, roaming is sort of the focus of this build. We're building mobi boots and ghostblade and taking celerity, water walking and relentless hunter. Kha'Zix has super effective ganks, especially when you have access to your ult which lets you get terrifying jumpscares on people who are caught unawares (fed kha'zix straight up materializing in the middle of your lane after you just lost a trade is one of the most terrifying feelings in this game). Usually, jungle Kha'Zix takes advantage of this easily. From midlane this is also pretty easily, especially with water walking. This rune by itself allows us to run right after clearing a wave with w+tiamat, kill their jungler at scuttle, gank for a double kill bot and still be back to lane in time for dinner (i.e. next cannon). Aggressively snowball your jungler and side lanes and the game is free, often even if you lose lane.
Evolutions
Now, this is one of if not the best strength Kha'Zix has as a champion; flexibility. Kha'Zix allows you to grow and change to adapt to the game state, and has very strong tools that let him be useful in a variety of different situations. This was in part shown earlier with the optional tankbusting build and variety of different strong defensive options that you can easily incorporate into your build. There really is no good stock build on Kha'Zix, it has to be modular and flexible (at least on top of a solid foundational core).

But the main part that Kha'Zix does this is through evolving his abilities with each level of his ult. At lvl 6 you have your first big choice, and lately I've been leaning a lot more towards W for this one. It provides you with so much utility it's not even fair, strong poke, cc, waveclear, healing, it even gets a 90% slow when the targets are isolated to help with your single target assassinations. The main reason I would evolve Q first is if their team is very tanky or full of brawly, fighter champions who you will need to hit with multiple Q's before you can really take them down. Alternatively, it can also be useful if your team isn't built for big teamfights, and you want more power for taking objectives very quickly, which evolved Q does without breaking a sweat.

The choice at lvl 11, however, is much simpler. Pretty much every single game you want E evolved second here. The extended range on the leap is ENORMOUS, and the reset on kill makes you a monster in extended fights, which by this point in the game will start happening a little more often. However, if you took Q first, you may just want W or R evolved here instead, as you may not be getting as many big teamfights with opportunities for a lot of resets. In this case, R can be useful for becoming a super-slippery nightmare, weaving in and out of skirmishes like vayne. If you anticipate this might happen in champ select, you may want to take ultimate hunter instead of relentless to abuse this evolution even more.
Outro
Alright, well, I think that about covers it. If you've read this far, thank you so much for sticking with this guide, please go out there and spread the good word of Kha'Zix Mid. This build is an absolute menace and I love it. And thank you for reading!
