Introduction

Hello!! This will be the second guide I am making. Lissandra is a short-ranged mage who does not focus on bursting other champions down but rather, being very team-orientated. Please upvote but downvote if you must, but please provide useful criticism or ways to improve!! Thank you!

(Ew, photo quality wasn't as good as I had hoped. Gonna photoshop a new one soon as well ;) )

Great Chaser
Fantastic Escapes
Nice Burst Late Game
Easy to Learn
Long Range with Ice Shard if you land it

Skills have No Mana Cost Occasionally

Very Low Range, if you don't land Q
No Sustain except Ultimate (Shield Etc)
Weak Early Game
Not bursty like other mids.

Runes

Runes

Precision
Fleet Footwork
Phase Rush

I chose the Glyphs, Quintessences of Ability Power because you are very weak early game and lots of champions can outburst you. Such as your Ultimate deals almost no damage but scales okay with ability power.

I chose Mark of Magic Penetration because with Haunting Guise, Sorceror's Shoes and maybe Abyssal Scepter, you'd basically be dealing true damage to other champions which is quite nice.

I chose Seal of Magic Resist because you are squishy and can be burst down easily early game by other AP Mids. This is useful against your counters such as Diana.

Skills

Ice Shard [Q]

Ice Shard is a skill shot that slows the target that it hits along with damaging it. It then breaks into smaller shards dealing the same damage to targets behind it however, not slowing them. It is a very good poke and you need to know how to use this. You will be expelling your opponent out of their lane if you can use this correctly because you will be out of their range. This skill has decent AP Scaling and damage.

Ring of Frost [W]

Ring of Frost is a skill that is immediately activated once you click 'W'. It does not stop movement so you can use this while you are being attacked by a melee champion to stop them from following you. It will reduce your cooldown of Iceborn by 1 second, per unit hit, so if you are planning to use Ring of Frost to push the lane, be sure to use it in a big group of minions to reduce the cooldown of Iceborn by a lot. This skill has decent AP Scaling and damage.

Glacial Path [E]

Glacial Path is a slow moving skill shot that deals damage to all enemies in the path. Activating this skill again will teleport Lissandra to the claw's current location. After activating, the claw will disappear thus, no more damage will be dealt to targets that could've been hit. This skill allows Lissandra to do many jukes along with being a good escape as well as a good initiator. This allows Lissandra to be a formidable ganker because of this teleport. This skill allows Lissandra to get into range for her W as well.

Frozen Tomb [R]

Frozen Tomb is a skill that either makes yourself invulnerable for 1.5 seconds or stunning enemy champion for 1.5 seconds. This skill does not deal very much damage early game, but is very good for ganking other lanes, especially bot - stunning the carry. This item, if you target this on yourself, you can also Zhonya's Hourglass allowing you to be invulnerable for 4 seconds!! This skill is very useful and will be dealing a lot of AoE damage late game.

Iceborn [Passive]

This passive is quite useful. It allows you to use your skills without a mana cost. If you read it carefully, it says, reduces the cooldown by 1 second for every unit hit with a movement impairing effect so therefore this means that it will reduce by 4 if you hit 4 minions with your W etc.

Combos:

E->W->Q->R->Q This is often a killing combo, but its very hard to get the kill unless the target is quite low or you actually have a lot of AP.

W->Q->R->Q->E->Q This combo technically means that a target is within range for you to snare and so you will snare, Q then ulti them, Q them again, E behind them and then Q. Be sure that when E'ing behind them, you are actually somewhat in their way of their way back to spawn.

Harass is basically Q.

Summoner Spells

Flash and Ignite

Flash can be used both offensively and defensively. I find myself using it offensively most of the time.
Ignite is mainly used for securing kills. I often ignite when the target is below 100 health because when I do use ignite it tends to be around level 6 when I can go in for the kill.

Other Viable Summoner Spells

Barrier

Barrier can often be used to save yourself in a guaranteed death such as Caitlyn Ultimate/Karthus Ultimate. I recommend this spell if you are against any of those type of champions or... If you can bait people to your turret.

Ghost

This Summoner Spell can gap close but you already have your E so this should not be necessary.

Exhaust

This Summoner Spell is useful to replace ignite and so you can gap close better or exhausting on an enemy carry so that they wont be able to deal as much damage. Somewhat viable but not recommended.

Items

Sustained Start

sight ward
This start is often quite good and allows you to stay in lane for a while. The Crystalline Flask is very useful as well because it provides mana too.

Average Start

3x
This is quite an average start. You move very slowly so it will be hard to dodge skillshots. Also you won't need too much mana unless you spam your skills a lot, without waiting for Iceborn to go off cooldown.

Easy Lane Start

Doran's Ring provides nice mana regen and a good passive which is, whenever you kill a minion, you gain 5 mana. It also provides decent ability power and will allow you to deal more damage early on.

First Back and Upgrades

catalyst the protector
Firstly, Catalyst the Protector should provide you nice sustain in lane as well as allow you to soak in more damage. This item can be upgraded into a Rod of Ages which is very useful.
Secondly, Chalice of Harmony provides you very nice mana regeneration and upgrades into Athene's Unholy Grail which gives you massive mana regeneration when you're low, however you will be dealing almost no damage if you get an Athene's Unholy Grail.

Last but not least, Tear of the Goddess provides you nice mana when you get full stacks and upgrades into a very good item - Archangel's Staff/Seraph's Embrace . This item turns 3% of your mana into ability power. It also has a active which provides you a shield. This item should definitely not be underestimated because once you got the Seraph's Embrace, you'd get about bonus 40 Ability power. The same amount as a DFG/Zhonya/Rab.

RoA and Seraph's Embrace??
Spoiler: Click to view

Lich Bane

As Lissandra, you will find yourself auto-attacking very often this is why I recommend this item. However, you will lose a lot of procs if you don't auto attack in between skills. This item adds a lot to your burst too and with a Seraph's Embrace, you will gain 6 bonus ability power. It also provides movement speed which is important as Diana.

Rabadon's Deathcap

This item is a necessary for all APCs. It provides 30% bonus Ability Power as well as a huge 120 ability power itself. Get this as your 2nd item after getting the RoA/Archangel/Athene.

Zhonya's Hourglass

This item is very good for Lissandra and I recommend it. Immediately after using your Ultimate on yourself, you can cast this, thus making a 4 second invulnerability!! Many people will often wait for your ultimate to go off... But guess what? STASIS!!! It provides nice ability power and armor too!! Highly Recommended.

Liandry's Torment

As Lissandra, you will have lots of movement impairing effects such as your W and Q. This will make the burn twice as damaging. This item is useful with a Rylai's Crystal Scepter because once you land your Q, you will slow everyone behind too as well as putting a Liandry's Torment burn onto them. Recommended with Rylai's Crystal Scepter.

Rylai's Crystal Scepter

Rylai's Crystal Scepter along with RoA will provide you with 1150 Health!! This will make you quite tanky. Rylai's Crystal Scepter provides a slow as well as a nice amount of ability power. With a Rylai's Crystal Scepter, your E as well as targets behind the Q will be slowed. Using tis with Liandry's is very good or just building this for the sheer sake of being a bit more tanky. Recommended.

Snowballing Selections

Mejai's Soulstealer provides 180 Ability Power at maximum stacks which is very good. However, gaining the stacks is already hard and not losing them is hard too but as Lissandra you shouldn't die very often because of your Glacial Path.

Deathfire Grasp provides 120 Ability Power and 10% CDR. It has a nice active that deals 15% of the targets maximum health and also making abilities used on that target amplified. This is useful to increase your burst damage however I prefer Deathfire Grasp.

Options for Boots

I personally prefer Sorceror's Shoes on Lissandra for the Magic penetration.

I would get Mercury Treads if the enemy team is heavy with cc.

Also Ionian Boots of Lucidity is actually useful on Lissandra because of the cooldown reduction it comes with. Lissandra benefits a lot from CDR.

Boots of Swiftness can be used on a team with lots of slows such as a team with an Ashe although I wouldn't recommend it.

Early Game

During Early Game, which is basically the laning phase in which you try to get as much farm as you can as well as getting gold from kills/turrets. A good benchmark is this:

100~150 - 10 Minutes
1 Kill = 15 CS

It is not necessary to get so much because you may have a hard time but get at least about 80 at 10 minutes. During the laning phase you should be harassing your opponents with your Q and eventually when they are low enough, E in and then W then Q or even R if you're already 6. This may be dangerous if you're against someone who can burst you down such as Annie or Diana or Akali but your ultimate should be able to stop some of the counter-harass. You should be able to kill most people who are weak like Lux or Twisted Fate. You may find yourself ganking often as well. Often when you gank, you start with E then W then follow-up with a Q. If your opponent has gone to gank, call mia and push that lane hard. Remember to save your E to escape from other ganks.

Mid Game

Ganks are occurring more often, the first few turrets have finally gone down. You should be able to shine here as well as in early game. You should be able to escape ganks easily with your E once again. You will need to be helping your carry and stunning the enemy carry with your ultimate. Dragons will become an objective during mid game and be sure to take it whenever you can with your teammates and be sure to counter ward. I haven't much to say about mid game but be sure to... Freeze on!

Late Game

Now, the enemy team or your team should have finally grouped up and started taking people down in groups. Often the team who starts this first may have a slight advantage over the one who hasn't transitioned into late game yet. During late game, lots of teamfights will occur. Your role before a teamfight is to harass the enemy team with your Q by hitting a MINION before hand, not a champion because your Q is very short ranged unless you hit a target before hand. Also a good thing to do would be to E into the enemy team, R onto yourself then Zhonya yourself. This will make champions with skillshots waste their skillshots onto you or make everyone start mass clicking you. Your ultimate deals nice damage at level 3 and has got a nice AP scaling so be sure that your ultimate will hit everyone on their team. You are NOT the tank so you should never teleport with your E if Zhonya/Frozen Tomb is not up. Also with your Lich Bane, you should be able to split push very well. Your Q + W should take down minion waves very quickly but NEVER use your E because you will need it to escape.
