Introduction

Hello.
This is my Phoenix Udyr guide and this will tell some basic things about Udyr in da woods and things how they should work.

Firstly about myself: I love playing in jungle and support at bot lane. Usually i play whit Udyr, Evelynn, Shaco and Alistar. As you can quess already only support in this group is Alistar. But anyway lets continue...


Needs quite a bit of work to be comprehensive enough to actually be used. No information that I cant get from better guides

Pros / Cons

Pros
  • Great jungle clearing speed...
  • ...whit great sustain
  • Good counter-jungler
  • So tanky at start and eventually get more tanky whit items
  • Anti-Carry
Cons
  • Easily kited at early game
  • Need more than normal jungler movement speed...
  • ...cause fully melee based champ
  • Ranged can be seriously annoying (ex. Ashe)
  • Somewhat hard to master
  • No gap-closer

So why play whit Udyr? It is fun... seriously. When you master / get used to be full melee you gonna love Udyr.

Skills

Monkey's agility
Entering a stance grants Udyr 10% Attack Speed for a short duration. This effect can stack up to 3 times.

Summary: This passive... is so great to phoenix Udyr because Wingborne Storm persistent effect proc every 3th auto-attack cone-aoe damage effect. So whit 30% higher attack-speed it proc more frequently. Of course this requires you to swap stances time by time to keep up.


Tiger Stance
Tiger Stance: Activation - Udyr's next attack will deal a high amount of damage over 2 seconds, and Udyr's Attack Speed is increased for a few seconds. Persistent Effect - Udyr's Attack Speed is passively increased.
Persistent Effect: Increases Attack Speed by 20/25/30/35/40%.

Activation: Udyr's Attack Speed is increased by 15/20/25/30/35% and Udyr's first attack rends his target, dealing an extra 30/80/130/180/230 (+1.5) magic damage over 2 seconds.
Cost: 55/50/45/40/35 Mana
Range: 0

Summary: This is one of two abilities what is damage offensive on Udyr. Whit this you can do great amount damage on single target what most Udyr players focus. This will do great amount damage but there is few drawbacks whit this skill. First it does magical damage dot effect on target but scales up whit AD. And second thing is that whit this you're jungle farming gonna be slow.


Turtle Stance
Turtle Stance - Turtle Stance: Activation - Udyr gains a temporary shield that absorbs damage. Persistent Effect - Udyr's attacks cannot crit, but he restores his Health and Mana equivalent to a percentage of his damage dealt.
Persistent Effect: Udyr's attacks cannot crit, but he restores 10/12/14/16/18% of his damage as Health and 5/6/7/8/9% of his damage as Mana.

Activation: Udyr gains a temporary shield that absorbs 60/95/130/165/200 (+0.5) damage.
Cost: 55/50/45/40/35 Mana
Range: 0

Summary: This stance is what makes you so good jungler and loved. First of all this makes shield what absorbs damage what rise you're sustain in jungle. And whit this you get hp and MANA when you beat enemy's. So middle laner can take blue after first round. Upon team-fights if you get focused you just pop this on and continue like nothing isn't happening.


Bear Stance
Bear Stance: Activation - Udyr gains a large Movement Speed increase for a short duration. Persistent Effect - Udyr's attacks stun his target for 1 second. This effect cannot occur on the same target for several seconds.
Persistent Effect: Udyr mauls his target with such force that they are stunned for 1 second. This effect cannot occur on the same target for 6 seconds.

Activation: Udyr gains 15/18/21/24/27% increased Movement Speed for 2/2.5/3/3.5/4 seconds.
Cost: 55/50/45/40/35 Mana
Range: 0

Summary: This is skill what i personally love in Udyr. Nice movement speed boost what you can use to get close to enemy or get away. And this skill have some weird feature what can be used against Banshee's Veil, when you see someone having this think it more like he dont even have this because when you hit FIRST time whit youre bear stance it will pop like balloon, then attack again whit bear stance and he is stunned like normally. This works against Sivir Spell Shield and Nocturne Shroud of Darkness. Now i dont have in mind do any other champ have same kind effect.


Phoenix Stance
Phoenix Stance: Activation - Udyr sends out pulsing waves of fire dealing damage to nearby foes for 5 seconds and has increased Ability Power and Attack Damage. Persistent Effect - Every third attack, Udyr engulfs enemies in front of him in flame.
Persistent Effect: Every third attack, Udyr engulfs enemies in front of him in flame, dealing 40/80/120/160/200 (+0.25) magic damage.

Activation: Udyr sends out pulsing waves of fire dealing 15/25/35/45/55 (+0.25) magic damage each second to nearby enemies for 5 seconds. In addition, Udyr's Ability Power is increased by 16/24/32/40/48 and his Attack Damage is increased by half of that amount.
Cost: 55/50/45/40/35 Mana
Range: 0

Summary: This is the skill what we will use most of time. This skill personally have so low AP ratios it's almost hilarious (like new Evelynn skills have AD/AP ratio). But this is most powerful jungle skill in game. Because this have so low AP ratios we don't even stack it because attack-speed will give us more persistent proc's what gives us damage what we need.


All skill in summary: As you can see every skill have some powerful sides on them but you cannot max all skills. You have 18 skill points but to max all you need 20 points. That is what makes Udyr special in championbucket.

Skill Sequence

This is just a basic sequence for skills but first six is what i get every time in same order, whit this order you can start gank's right after red buff. I start whit Wingborne Storm every single time because there is no point to start any other ( Wilding Claw players on jungle starts too whit Wingborne Storm because it's just so powerful). Next stance is Iron Mantle because it increases our sustain in jungle and makes our hp stay high. Blazing Stampede come at 3th position if there is need for gank but if not you can swap places whit second Wingborne Storm. Take Wilding Claw at level six because it have nice damage dot and you can use Wilding Claw to beat down towers.

Quintessence

Edit: Now i got all Greater Quintessence of Life Steal i recommend those over Greater Quintessence of Ability Power. Vamparism gives 6% lifesteal and it makes you to stay over 70% hp all the time in jungle. Aside from when you're fighting against blue. After that you get turtle and you gonna stay high hp all the time. Of course you are free to take whatever you prefer. Noticed that those work well.

Great alternatives would be:
Greater Quintessence of Attack Speed Increases attack speed about 10%. SO it means 10% frequent phoenix stance proc and more lifesteal / manasteal whit turtle.
Greater Quintessence of Movement Speed Failing whit ganks? Ppl getting away from you before you can hit whit bear stance? Get those.
Greater Quintessence of Ability Power Moar AP is moar damage whit Wingborne Storm and more shield whit Iron Mantle


Glyph

Like i say'd about attack speed already i gonna say it again. More attack speed more Phoenix proc's and more hp and mp on turtle. Nothing to else to say...

Great alternatives would be:
Greater Glyph of Magic Resist Moar magic resist. Who would not like. Of course there is times when you encounter full ad team but it's not very frequent.
Greater Glyph of Cooldown Reduction More cdr? It seriously helps at start when you can do more stance dancing at jungle and ganking.


Seal

More armor = less damage in da woods, from ad carry and etc. You know?! Those runes are so straight forward as they can be. I highly recommend those because there is no longer dodge in game.

Summoner Spells

Recommended:



It don't matter if you can jungle without this. It is just must if you don't want to pummel lizard almost dead and then comes Shaco's Jack In The Box and blink of eye you're lizard have been stolen by enemy Shaco. It's not nice. I say it. Of course Shaco likes it. And i do that all the time when i'm playing whit Shaco



And this helps greatly in ganks. First of all it reducing enemy's move speed by 40% and it's makes enemy's fighting back useless because it also will reduce they attack damage by 70% and skill damage by 35%. And whit this when you gank enemy you get you're friend faster to attack enemy's.


Great alternatives:




I don't personally like new flash anymore because it have's so short range. But time by time i hope i would have picked Flash over Exhaust.



Same as upper. But this gives nice running speed but i see exhaust better because it can be you have to run under enemy turrent whit this to get hit.

For other spells i don't see any reason to take but it's all on you what to take.

Core Items

Philosopher's stone

Starting items should always be:
Boots and 3x Health Potion

We need Boots for faster jungle clearing and 3 health pots to keep us going on ganks. There is no need for Cloth Armor because we have already whit turtle so high sustain in jungle and ganks.

After those two get Heart of Gold and Philosopher's stone. If you get enough money to get both take them but if not take Heart of Gold first cause it gives nice flat amount hp. And you wont need Philosopher's stone right away because you can sustain yourself whit turtle stance in woods. After those two item's go for better boots or straight to Wit's End

Last item what i have listed is Wit's End. First of all this gives magic resist what we have ignored until this. And what else there was, oh yeah 40% attack speed and 42 magic damage on every hit! Oh yeah and this gives magic resist on every hit (max 20mresist more). There wont be many item's what can give more anything and this is our last "core" item.

Situatinal items



Those items works fine whit Udyr specially Shurelya's Battlesong and Randuin's Omen. I recommend build those two on every game because they give enough tankiness and cc to keep enemy's close to you, what is most important part as playing Udyr.

If bot ad carry have get feeded before you start teamfights i recommend get Randuin's Omen and go for him as much you can. In other situations i recommend get Shurelya's Battlesong what gives you nice movement speed burst whit Blazing Stampede so you catch anyone whit those two. Either way you decide take Wit's End and after that build both of them before you start build anything else!



Now we have 2 slots on our bag (usually game have ended already so i don't have serious experience about this).

Ppl still getting away from you before you can get stun on them? So we need more move speed or we need range snare. Enemy team is heavy AP and only one AD? Take Force of Nature extra magic resistance wont do any bad and that 8% movement speed helps much to catch annoying escaping enemy's.

Need more surviving in team fights? Then take Hextech Gunblade it gives nice amount everything you need! And don't forget awesome range snare on Udyr!

In other situations when you get feeded much take Trinity Force and make them hate you as much you can! This gives nice nice hp / ap / movement speed and nice proc. You need to stance dance so you can get more damage on every switch.

Your team don't have any tank champs in group who can take serious damage and none great cc? Except you whit your one second stun? Then take Frozen Mallet it helps you to stay alive and keeping enemy close to you so you can beat him down easily.

And that Maw of Malmortius is on list if you get seriously killed AP full team.

Now ppl have noticed already i don't have any aoe aura items in my build? Like a Aegis of the Legion, Locket of the Iron Solari, Will of the Ancients and Zeke's Herald. I don't take those because support usually takes and there is no point to dual auras. Those items are relatively low price so support love them. But those items are viable if you're team support wont take them or you're team don't have support.

Boots of choice



Those are only boot's what i would recommend to use.

Boots of Swiftness Is one of the greatest chose because it gives so much movement speed so they help you catch escaping enemy and you get easier to melee range when you can stun them and start pew. On the other side this is also one of the worst choice because they don't have any def against anyone, except for running away.

Mercury's Treads Is choice what i took most of times. 35 tenacity can save you many times when you are fighting against enemy team. Usually teams take some cc (Stun, snare, etc) so those help against them. Those gives also little magic resist so if enemy team is AP heavy take those then too.

Ninja Tabi Those are something what i don't take many times because they only work well against AD heavy team. Or if enemy AD auto-attack carry got feeded.

Sorcerer's Shoes Some of you might now think am i mad because i listed those boots in list. But sorry i'm not mad... yet. Those boots will give you flat amount damage boost. Your Wingborne Storm is 90% of magic damage (only except is your auto-attack damage. Wilding Claw's dot is magic damage also so this will help them both to do more damage so it's some kind viable choice. I would take those if enemy team is heavy bruiser team what have "too much" magic resist and nothing serious damage.

Berserker's Greaves Is also viable choice because it increases attack-speed. Those are fine choice if enemy team isn't stacking any resist and don't have any / many heavy cc on team. And most of enemy team is slow running champ and not much escape skills.

Jungling

Basic route would be:
Wraith => Blue Golem's => Wolf's => Wraith => Red Lizard => Small Golem's.

So start whit Wraith's. Go stand middle of spawn area and right away when they spawn activate you're Wingborne Storm and Pew big Wraith first down. They should be dead before 10sec have gone. After that run straight to Blue Golem's and do same as whit Wraith's. Use Wingborne Storm on cd and pew Buff Golem down first, small ones dies along the way. Now you have second level and put that point on Iron Mantle. Now go to wolf's and just moment before you're start attacking big bad wolf put youre turtle on. And right after you get you're Wingborne Storm off "global" put it on. Now to kill Wraith's again. Now the lizard's do the same as whit wolf's so first few attack's whit Iron Mantle and then Wingborne Storm and dance whit those two until all of them are dead. Now you have you're 3th skill point to put, is mid/top or bot needing gank so soon you cannot get next lvl? Put it then on Blazing Stampede or if you can still farm little more put it on Wingborne Storm. If you're are fast enough it can be you're Smite's cd is still on so use it on Big Brother of Small Golem's.

After this routine is done start's fun part. Ganking, counter-ganking and counter-jungling. This part is where Udyr can shine and looks bad if not succeed.

When blue golem's spawn again give it to mid laner he/she gonna love it if he uses mana. And for red give it to bot AD carry or top solo player if he/she need, depend what side you're are. Of course there is no point to give it anyone else if they just are "feeding" enemy players. So they will just to give buffs for enemy's.

And you have 5% more exp income so always try kill something, enemy players or jungle creeps so you can keep distance whit enemy jungler.

One point need to say on this part. Before you go base try farm enough money to Heart of Gold but if you have to go base or got killed, buy something, it is always boost.

Summary

I try my best to keep this guide updated for chances and trying collect as much information to get this better. And i gonna import some images and new sectors for this guide time by time.

I don't play Ranked games cause i play games for fun so this is not tested in High Elo or even on Low Elo.

And sorry for bad english, it's not my native language but i hope you get what i try say.

I'm always happy to get constructive criticism but something like "Noob", "Lol what build is this" or something like that whit negative ratings you can keep on yourself. I can take negative ratings easily if there is some reasoning for it. And i take constructive criticism seriously so say those!
