Introduction

Hi, and welcome to my Rumble guide. Rumble is my favorite caster and is extremely effective in playing the role of the AP Offtank in the solo lane. Comment and rate below, as I may tweak this guide to make it better after even more testing.

Pros / Cons

PROS

High DPS output all game.
Becomes tanky mid-lategame.
DESTROYS melee champs in laning phase if played correctly.
Low-cooldown, game-changing ult.
TONS of slow.
Uncommon (Many people don't know how to play against him)

HE PLAYS LIKE AP GAREN WITH SLOWS LOL

CONS

A bit skillshot reliant.
No stuns.
Silences screw him over. (Including his own LOL)
Takes some getting used to.

Runes

Best in slot.
Helpful against those pesky AD solo tops.

Notable Alternatives

All purpose rune for anybody.
Good for offtanks.
For a little bit more damage.

Summoner Spells

Exhuast is so important for Rumble that I would consider it one of his own skills. Firstly, it's a part of his lockdown combo. It makes him into one of the best 1v1ers against melee carries that are not Tryndamere and allows him to gank about 100x easier. It's possible to even 2v1 if you exhaust the enemy AD and focus him down. It's possible to play without exhaust, but after you use it, there's no going back.

Now, there are 2 choices for the defensive summoner.

vs.

This is mainly preference. I like to take Flash as a get-out-of-jail free card, but Ghost is also viable to take as you can keep up with people more easily while burning them to death. All in all, the choice is yours.

Other Viable Summoners

Teleport Map control is pro.
Cleanse Anti-cc is pro.
Heal Hellza good for lvl1 teamfights and baits.
Ignite True dmg is pro.

Masteries

Go 21/9/0 AP carry masteries.

These maximize his damage potential whilist maintaining some form of tankiness.

Skills

This is the framework of rumble. This is what gives him his endless harass in a lane. Know and love this passive. 30% is a lot of damage.

Flamespitter is what defines Rumble. This his bread and butter. The big cheese. 450-600 damage over 3sec is actually quite scary, not including the AP scaling, Magic Pen, Exhaust resist debuff, auto-attacks, Electro-Harpoon spam, AND the DoT from The Equalizer.

Decent skill. It's mainly used to run up to people, but comes with a nice little shield to help you tank enemy harass. Use it with Flamespitter for some easy damage. Only one point in this skill at level 2.

One of the components of Rumble's lock-down. Right after firing one harpoon, you can fire another one within 3sec. Fortunately, the slows stack, summing up to 70% slow at skill level 5. However, it is NOT the main damage skill, so it's maxed second, with one point at level 3.

This skill is what makes rumble a beast, as well as being another component of his lockdown. (350+) initial damage + (200+) DoT + all of your other skills combined = a dead squishy. Not to mention that this thing is also AOE, has a 1 min CD at skill level 3, AND slows. Personally, I believe this skill is OP as all hell, and that Riot should nerf the CD, but while it's like this, abuse it. The only downside is that it's a hard to aim skillshot.

Skill Sequence

Put 1 in Flamespitter, Scrap Shield, and Electro-Harpoon, in this order.

Then max in this order:
Flamespitter Dat damage.
Electro-Harpoon Leveling it makes it not useless for damage.
Scrap Shield Good for running away and pulling off clutch kills

EXCEPTION:
If you're up against a really tough solo top, (ex. Akali/Wukong/Lee Sin/Talon/Fizz) prioritize Scrap Shield over Electro-Harpoon

and get The Equalizer whenever you can.

Items

CORE

FULL

Mercury's Treads Great for offtanks in General.
Will of the Ancients Beastmode sustain in the lane.
Rabadon's Deathcap Epic Damages.
Rylai's Crystal Scepter HP, AP, and Slows. Good stuff.
Abyssal Mask MR, AP, and Magic Reduction. More good stuff.
Zhonya's Hourglass More AP and even armor. You are now a offtank carry.
Guardian Angel Carry harder.

Situational Items

Overfed AD Carry INBOUND!

When you want to negate magic damages.

Replace Abyssal Mask with this if they're stacking MR.

Team Work

Early Game

Harass the melee champion in your lane constantly. However, be sure to get CS. Use Electro-Harpoon to kite and use Flamespitter + Scrap Shield to do very nice early game damage. If there are no melee champs in your lane, don't use the Flamespitter + Scrap Shield combo or request a lane switch.

Once you hit level 6, start using this combo to pretty much guarantee a kill/force summoners in a lane that is even a LITTLE bit overextended:

I present to you.... THE LOCKDOWN COMBO.

(If you have it)

again if needed.

Also, make sure your heat gauge is at zero when you gank. Overheating can be one of the worst things that can happen to you while ganking. If you MUST overheat, it is better have Flamespitter active while in that state.

Mid Game

You have probably gotten a few kills under your belt now. Team-fights have started. Be sure to use The Equalizer AFTER the tank has initiated. Use the W-Q-E combo on the squishies/most dangerous people/targets of focus. Then get out. Rumble does not like dying.

End Game

Same as midgame. However, you are now built tanky, so you can just go in a teamfight, and slaughter their carries without becoming too wounded. After full build is done, you'll have about upwards of about 150 armor and magic resist, maybe more, while having enough hp to make the resists worth it.

Jungling

He can do it, but I don't like it. Rumble is just so much better in a solo top lane. His ganks are good, but he can easily do the same thing in a lane. He has the ability to easily shut down a lane, given the correct matchup.

Scores for lulz

More coming.

Summary

Rumble is a ******* beast in solo top. He is one of the best lane bullies and can easily dominate his lane. Have fun playing Rumble and roasting all your enemies.
