Introduction

Hello everyone!

It's my first time writing in Mobafire, and I decided to create a guide for the champion I like, Ryze. Many of you might be wondering: "Why should I play Ryze?" Well, if you like champions who can take other champions down quite well while still having some defensive stats, Ryze is a viable choice. Shall we begin?

Pros / Cons

Pros:

+ Nuke
+ Tankyish
+ W has a snare
+ Easy to play for beginners if built well

Cons:

- CC will destroy you
- Hard to master
- No good escaping methods
- Item dependent

Skill explanation

- That is definitely one of the reasons I love Ryze... Thinking about the CD on Overload, will make you able to spam your skills.

- Your main source for damage. Use this skill as often as possible. Priorized 1st.

- Will deny your opponents from running away right after casting your first skill. Priorized 2nd.

- Early game this skill will make your other skills hit harder. During the late game / on 1v1 fights deals a fairly good amount of damage, since it will bounce from you to opponent a few times. Priorized 4th.

- Some passive mana for more damage, some spell vamp when activated + another skill to make your CDs reduced. Priorized 3rd.

Runes

Runes

Precision
Fleet Footwork
Phase Rush

Marks: This will boost up your early game, still affecting towards carries late game.

Seals: 189,74 bonus mana at level 18, and your damage output comes mostly from mana, nuff said. Greater Seal of Replenishment would be a good choice too, giving you even more time to farm, but will reduce your late game damage a bit.

Glyphs: 230,4 bonus mana blablabla. If you want a stronger early game, you might want to give a try for Greater Glyph of Mana.

Quintessences: Ryze doesn't have too much movement speed, so with the boost from masteries & these quints, you should be able to chase/escape well.

Masteries

The 9 points in Offense: My aim is to get max CD reduction, so Sorcery is a must. Arcane Knowledge is not bad at all either.

The 21 points in Utility: Expanded Mind , Swiftness and Intelligence are the crucial things I am hunting for. Some movement speed, maximum mana and cooldown reduction (needed to reach max CD reduction). Others are the most viable choices I found there.

Items

Okay, here it gets a bit more tricky. You will pick your items in the order regarding to the champions in your lane.

Starting items:
Sapphire Crystal Gives you more damage & you won't run out of mana that fast. Meki Pendant will not keep you in the mana any better, unless you chose mana regen seals.
Health Potion x2 If you're having a harasser in your lane, you can just use your health potion and keep farming at your turret.
Mana Potion You will need this so you can farm till Tear of the Goddess.

Core:

Facing AD-based lane:

Now it would look like this:
catalyst the protector

Facing AP-based lane:

Now it would look like this:
catalyst the protector

Final items:

Now it's time to decide your last item.

Items I would suggest:
50 AP for yourself, 30 AP and 25% spellvamp for you and your teammates. Buy this if none of your teammmates has this.

70 AP, 40% magic penetration. Pick this if enemy is stacking over 100 mres.

140 AP, 30% increased AP. This would make your W and E do good amount of damage, not so much increase in Q. Just another way to boost your damage to the maximum.

100 AP, 50 armor, untargetable for 2 seconds during active.
Uhm, just some defensive item, works well.

70 AP, 57 magic resist, reduces the magic resistance of enemies by 20. Get this if none of your teammmates have it.

Changing boots in late game
It might be worth it if the enemy team keeps using their CC on you.

Skill Sequence

Well, the goal is to get Overload maxed first for the CD reduction. Then, Rune Prison for snare and more damage, and last as but not the least Spell Flux, as it has some good damage for that burst in late game. Desperate Power when you can, it's just a bit of bonus damage and spell vamp.

Notice: you MAY skip adding the points in ulti, but get it before level 10, that spell vamp might save you.

Summoner Spells

I decided to take Flash and Teleport. Flash if you need to get closer / get further of the enemy, Teleport for more farm + turret saving.

Notice: feel free to grab your own decisions, I'm just telling the ones I usually take. Someone might be doing better with different spells. Sometimes I've seen people with Ghost and Ignite, but dunno, it's your choice.

Farming & How to lane

I suggest you to NOT use Overload for farming before you've got your Tear of the Goddess, it should be mainly used for harass. After Tear of the Goddess though, it makes your last hitting easier, + you'll get 4 mana per Overload cast. Keep your early game playing safe & care, because Ryze can only shine in mid-late game with decent farm. Also keep in mind your ultimate Desperate Power can help you take on large creep waves easily, + your passive lowers also your ULTIMATES CD.

In a nutshell, more farm = better items = more damage & survivability. ALWAYS aim to outfarm the enemy lane. Most people don't understand the meaning of farm.

How to act in fights

There is various skill combinations you can use. I'll explain some of them. DONE WITH 40% CD REDUCTION

For maximum damage output / dragon solo:
-> -> -> -> -> -> -> -> -> etc.

For harass:
-> ->

You can be creative, but casting Q between all skills will provide out the best damage (because of Ryze's passive).

Summary

Well, everyone can play Ryze, it's easy. But if you want to master Ryze, it takes a lot of skills (I haven't managed to do it yet, but everyone's still learning :) ).

Feel free to comment, positive / negative feedback, but keep in mind this is my first post in Mobafire, kinda can't handle the system too good yet. I hope everyone's having fun with dat Ryze beast!
