The order is simply, start with Amplifying Tome and Health Potion ( Doran's Ring is useless), continue with Haunting Guise for more healt, and start Sheen for Lich Bane, now buy Sorcerer's Shoes and finish Lich Bane, next buy the enchant you want,but i prefer Enchantment: Homeguard.

CORE ITEMS
Lich Bane Thats essential for shen because his pasive gives you extra damage, buy this item first, if you dont buy lich bane in the game.
Liandry's Torment This will give you extra AP and HP, his pasive is too usefull and will increas your pasive damage Ki Strike and Vorpal Blade pasive, so you got too much more resistance in lane.
Deathfire Grasp This will be give you coldown reduction and extra AP for use more faster abilities and his pasive to shut down their carry/ap mid.
Sorcerer's Shoes + Enchantment: Homeguard You will arrive so fast to your lane and don't lose too much farm and if you're using Stand United from the base can save your mates and catch enemys so easy.

Farm with Shen is easy, simply do last hit and if the enemy dont let you farm use Vorpal Blade and Feint to avoid damage from enemys, you can heal with Vorpal Blade hitting auto to enemys.
You should do splitpush if the game is going bad for you and your team, you can use your ult to scape so. What?

Cons:
-The energy disappears too quickly
