Threats & Synergies
Not really an extreme threat, but the early game can be tough if you can't dodge her abilities.
Again, like syndra, it can be difficult if Orianna lands everything.
Uhh, good luck for this. He'll do 2x damage to you while being 3x as tanky. Focus on roaming and asking for jungler's help.
Experience will be needed for this matchup. Gets harder as the game goes on. Just like any other tank matchups, if you don't get ahead early, it will be really hard.
Any immobile champs will be great for you. Easy all-in and have tons of kill pressure. Just don't get baited and get killed by their enemy jungler.
Hello fellow Zed gamers, welcome to my in-depth, all-in-one and the only Zed guide you'll ever need! As of Season 11, I'm currently in Grandmasters and hit Challenger awhile ago. I have more than 1 Million mastery points on Zed across all of my accounts and was hated by many streamers (for stealing their LP :P)
Zed is one of my favorite, if not my favorite, champion to play. His kit enables you to have high outplay potential with a high skill learning curve. If you do have any questions about Zed, make sure to let me know! I stream daily on Twitch so I'll answer your question in a timely manner.
If the guide was any helpful to you, a thumbs up vote would be great! I hope you'll enjoy my guide just as much as I enjoyed creating it. Remember, the only way to get better is to take action!
★ Zed synergies greatly with Electrocute. Zed's main combo (W+E+Q) easily procs Electrocute and helps out with laning phase. If you're going the domination tree as primary, I would take Electrocute 100% of the time (unless there's an update in the future). However, if you're going up against 2+ tanks ( Amumu, Maokai, Sett, Hecarim) or if y'all are full ad, I would take Conqueror and use my Conqueror rune page provided above.
★ You can take Taste of Blood or Sudden Impact for this tree. Taste of Blood is great for better laning phase (if you're going against Syndra or heavy poke champs) and better sustain. However, if you're against an easy match up with no heavy poke/immobile champs, taking Sudden Impact would be the better choice.
★ You can either take Ghost Poro or Eyeball Collection. This depends on personal preference, whether you want to have alittle more vision or just more raw damage as you stack up Eyeball Collection. (Just a reminder, if you went for Conqueror, make sure to check my provided rune page above!)
★ As of Patch 10.25, I really don't like building ghostblade when Relentless Hunter gives faster movespeed when you're out of combat. If you like building Youmuu's Ghostblade then you can take Ultimate Hunter for lower ult CD.
★ The amount of ability haste it provides for your non-ultimate abilities at level 11+ is insane. You're Living Shadow comes right up after you use it and it feels really good. This isn't required for Zed as everything in the secondary tree comes down to personal preference. Bottom line, Transcendence is really good on Zed.
★ I mean you can opt in for Scorch, but I feel like the games are taking much longer as less people are afk'ing (they may still troll, but it takes longer for the game to end) and tankier items are present. So I like to take Gathering Storm just in case if my game goes past 30 minutes to ensure a higher chance of winning the late game.
Long Sword + three Health Potion: The long sword will be built into your core items ( Serrated Dirk or Caulfield's Warhammer). Overall, this will be the best starting item and you shouldn't start anything else. (I mean if you are playing a normal game, then you can consider the starting items below...)
Doran's Shield + Health Potion: I guess you can start Doran's Shield and a potion. However, this item will be only useful against Zoe, Jayce or any other poke reliant champion. Even if you are against a poke reliant champion, I would still suggest you to buy Long Sword for the damage and it's build path.
Doran's Blade + Health Potion: I would only take Doran's Blade if you're taking Conqueror or you're against enemies that have some sustain ( Irelia).
Duskblade of Draktharr: As of patch 10.25, I would either only build Duskblade of Draktharr or Prowler's Claw. You can either rush Duskblade of Draktharr if you have kill pressure in lane or rush Youmuu's Ghostblade for roaming pressure.
Youmuu's Ghostblade: If you used my rune page above, with Relentless Hunter, then I recommend you to not buy ghostblade. However, if you take Ultimate Hunter instead, then Youmuu's Ghostblade is fine. The build path ( Pickaxe) feels great too with the extra damage in lane.
Plated Steelcaps: This will be a solid choice against heavy AD comps or champions that ( Master Yi, Tryndamere, Jax, etc) are auto attack reliant. Or if the enemy team is full ad, then Plated Steelcaps would be really useful.
Mercury's Treads: This will be great for heavy AP champions or CC heavy teams. Usually, this will be my first choice due to its tenacity stats.
Black Cleaver: I wouldn't really go for Black Cleaver as Serylda's Grudge and Ravenous Hydra synergies really well with Zed's kit and enemies tanky items.
Ravenous Hydra: Ravenous Hydra is really good on Zed. You'll do insane amount of AoE damage with your W+E+Q combo. The healing from the onmivamp also feels really great. If the enemy is building heavy armor at the start of the game, I would get Serylda's Grudge second (after Duskblade of Draktharr) then Ravenous Hydra as your third item.
Edge of Night: After you've built Serylda's Grudge or Ravenous Hydra, Edge of Night can be a great item to neglect some cc and let's you to go in and out without dying (hopefully).
Mortal Reminder: At this day and age, you (as Zed) shouldn't be building any grevious wounds. In my opinion, you should focus on taking out the squishies and then onto the enemies that sustain alot. Even if the enemy carries have an Ivern or Lulu, I still wouldn't go this item as serpant's fang will do you much better.
When Zed auto's an enemy below 50% hp, he deals an additional 6 / 8 / 10% of their maximum HP as magic damage. The amount is increased at level 7 and level 17. This effect cannot occur on the same target more than once every 10 seconds.
In the earlier levels, your Q is on a very low CD. It will be your best interest to use them wisely. If you are in a harder matchup where the enemy is zoning you, you should try to farm and last hit minions with your Q. However, if the matchup is easy, you should use your Q to hit the enemy and then last hit with your autos.
Zed's shadow dashes forward, remaining in place for 5 seconds. Reactivating or repressing this ability will cause Zed to switch positions with this shadow. Zed's shadow(s) will mimic his basic abilities (Q and E). If both shurikens strike the same target Zed regains 30 / 35 / 40 / 45 / 50 energy Energy can only be restored once per mimicked ability.
Active: Zed and his shadows create a bust of shadow, dealing 70 / 95 / 120 / 145 / 170 (+0.8 per bonus attack damage) physical damage to nearby enemies. Zed's slash reduces the cooldown of Living Shadow by 1 second for each enemy struck. His shadows' slashes slow enemies by 20 / 25 / 30 / 35 / 40% for 1.5 seconds. Living shadow: Overlapping Shadow Slash striking the same enemy deal no additional damage but will incur an increased slow of 30 / 37.5 / 45 / 52.5 / 60% and restore energy.

Focus on poking and landing your Razor Shuriken! Try not to hit the minions with your Q since that would mess up your wave (unless you're trying to last hit with your Razor Shuriken). This really depends on your personal playstyle, but for easier matchups, I would take trades at level one no matter if it favors me or not (since I know I can chunk them or even kill them level 3 or 4).
Assuming you've landed some Qs and the oponenent is at around 60% hp. At this point either ping your jungler to come for a gank/countergank or just all in. If you landed both of your Razor Shuriken + E, proc'd electrocute and your passive, the opponent should be dead if not within a Q and ignite away from dying. This forces them to back on low CS... If the wave is slowly pushing to you, you should also back and buy. If the wave is pushing, push the minions as fast as possible and back.
With the amount of gold that the opponent got from CSing, he shouldn't be able to buy an armor cloth. However, if the opponent does get an armor cloth, continue to poke for a kill potential at level 6. For me, I like to constantly shove and land my W+E+Q combo under their turret. However, if you do not see their jungler anywhere, save your Living Shadow and harass the enemy with Razor Shuriken.
If you do back (assuming that you have been getting 80% of the minions that spawned) you should be able to buy a Serrated Dirk when you're level 4-5.
When you all in, be SURE to know if the opponent have flash or stop watch. This way, you can delay your Razor Shuriken and land all three of your Qs (landing all 3 Razor Shuriken is hard, but knowing if the opponent has flash or not can really help you land the Qs). I would wait until the enemy jungler shows up and then all-in with your abilities.
For easier matchups, you should have at least 1 kill by level 7. If the enemy opponenet sits under turret or if the enemy jungler camps you, then shove wave and look for a roam bot or top (bot lane is level 4 when you are level 6 and they are usually low). Repeat this and constantly pressure the sidelane if the enemy midlaner just sits under his turret with Seeker's Armguard.
Chances are, the opponent will likely zone you out of the first minion wave. Always try to get at least 4 minions from the first wave. Depending on how good the opponent is, you may be able to get all 6 minions. If the opponent forces you out of the wave, try to stay in exp range and last hit minions with your Razor Shuriken.
If the lane is pushed into your turret, I would get Shadow Slash level 2 to get all the minions under turret (with Shadow Slash, there's literally no excuse to miss a minion under turret as Zed). While farming, try to sneak a Q or 2 at the opponent to poke him down. Then ask your jungler for help! If the jungler doesn't come, I would focus on farming and occasionally shoot out your W+E+Q combo. However, if you are against a Yasuo or any champion that can gap close, I would not throw out my Living Shadow blindly.
Depending on your HP and the opponent's hp, I would really look for an all-in here and burn the opponent's flash. Chances are, if you dodged most of the poke damage and wasted the enemy's mana, you are able to look for an all-in safely. If not, reset the wave and recall.
Shove in the wave or clear the wave. Then start warding your bot side river with pinks and your trinket. This is when you should start roaming and looking for easy kills (when you are level 6, the bot lane is usually level 4, but they could be level 5 depending on the game). If there are no roaming options, you should still hide in a bush. This way, the enemy midlaner will ping that you're missing, which relieves pressure for your bot lane.
You probably won't be able to kill your opponent now (of course, if you have the chance, go for it). This is a period of shoving your lane, clearing wards, placing wards, creating pressure and roaming. If you do this correctly, you should be able to get some kills, if not, help out the side laners.
If you've made it this far, make sure to give a thumbs up to this guide! It would really help me alot!
This is a MUST HAVE for Zed (yes, this means your ghost/cleanse Zed doesn't work...). If you don't run this spell, you will probably die to ganks, miss out on ALOT of kills and 100% get flamed by your teammates.
I take Ignite for 99.9999999999% of my matches. Zed snowballs really hard from early kills and ignite helps you to secure kills and have more lane pressure. Ignite is also strong against champions that heal or use Heal.
