Hello fellow Zed gamers, welcome to my in-depth, all-in-one and the only Zed guide you'll ever need! I peaked Masters 107 LP with Zed, however, when I tried to expand my champion pool, I went back to visit my Diamond friends (which is like 0). I have more than 1 Million mastery points across all of my accounts. If this means anything to you, I am Top 10 Zed NA, according to If the guide was any helpful to you or if you have any questions that you would like to ask, make sure to follow my stream and ask me there! (or you can go onto my YouTube channel and comment your question on one of my videos)

Zed is one of my favorite, if not my favorite, champion to play. His kit enables you to have high outplay potential with a high skill learning curve.

I hope you enjoy reading the guide as much as I enjoyed writing it. Remember, the only way to get better is to take action! (if the guide was helpful, an upvote is appreciated!)

Domination & Sorcery

: Zed is a burst champion and Electrocute gives him more damage early game to help Zed kill the enemy champion. You can take Dark Harvest, but the early game will be the most cancer period of time.

: Since the most common combo as Zed is W+E+Q, Sudden Impact is great for the increase in damage when you use your Living Shadow. This helps Zed's early game a ton!

: Ghost Poro is good for early game and early vision. But since you already have Electrocute and Sudden Impact, you'll need Eyeball Collection for late game. It gives you 18 bonus attack damage versus the 12 bonus attack damage that Ghost Poro gives.

: This is great rune! You can get +55 more movement speed when out of combat. This opens up more chances for you to roam and get back to your lane ASAP. Also, for late game, I will sell the for another damage or defensive item to make myself as useful as possible.

: I can't tell you how many times Nullifying Orb saved my life. It absorbs a tiny bit of AP damage. I take Nullifying Orbeven if go against AD matchups. Chances are, the enemy will have some bit ability damage from their abilities. However, if it's a FULL AD team, then you can take Transcendence for the extra CDR.

Hopefully this will be finished by next week... I'm a junior in highschool, so I'll try my best :D (01/05/2020)
Long Sword + three Health Potion: The long sword will be built into your core items ( Serrated Dirk or Caulfield's Warhammer). Overall, this will be the best starting item and you shouldn't start anything else. (I mean if you are playing a normal game, then you can consider the starting items below...)
Doran's Shield + Health Potion: I guess you can start Doran's Shield and a potion. However, this item will be only useful against Zoe, Jayce or any other poke reliant champion. Even if you are against a poke reliant champion, I would still suggest you to buy Long Sword for the damage and it's build path.
Doran's Blade + Health Potion: Please do not start this item... I do not care whoever suggests you this item, but it's just ain't good on Zed. If you want lifesteal and the stats that Doran's Blade gives you, then you're probably not going to get fed. If you have a mindset on farming instead of killing + farming + roaming, then you will struggle to win the game. As Zed, I would either want to go even in lane and get fed by roaming or destroy the other midlaner 1 v 1. If you get get behind, mute all and focus on your gameplay.
Duskblade of Draktharr: You'll want to rush this since it gives you 60 attack damage and 21 lethality. Almost 100% of the time, I would go Duskblade of Draktharr instead of Youmuu's Ghostblade.
Youmuu's Ghostblade: You would want to rush this item next as it gives you more movement speed to escape or chase down enemies. I would get this item before you upgrade your boots to Mercury's Treads or Ninja Tabi
Ninja Tabi: This will be a solid choice against heavy AD comps or champions that ( Master Yi, Tryndamere, Jax, etc) are auto attack reliant. Or if the enemy team is full ad, then Ninja Tabi would be really useful.
Mercury's Treads: This will be great for heavy AP champions or CC heavy teams. Usually, this will be my first choice due to its tenacity stats.
Black Cleaver: For your fourth item (assuming that you already have Youmuu's Ghostblade, Duskblade of Draktharr and a tier 2 boots built), I would either build either Edge of Night, Last Whisper or Black Cleaver. I would go with BC ( Black Cleaver) if I'm ahead and the enemy team is fairly tanky.
Edge of Night: I would get Edge of Night fourth item if the enemy team is very CC based. This is also a great "defensive" item.
Last Whisper: I put Last Whisper here instead of Mortal Reminder or Lord Dominik's Regards, because of the gold value. Finishing a mortal reminder or LDR is not worth your gold. You can use the extra 1350G for a Serrated Dirk or Kindlegem with a Long Sword for Black Cleaver. NOTE: If you are going against Vladimir, Soraka, Warwick, Aatrox or any other healing champs, it will be in your best interest to get a Executioner's Calling early.
Phantom Dancer: This can either be your last item or 6th item. I really like Phantom Dancer, since it gives you a shield against heavy burst damage, such as Kha'Zix, Syndra, Aphelios, etc... It also gives you attack speed, which is really important if you are fighting tanks. This way, you won't have to spend as much energy to get your Black Cleaver stacks, and you'll even have 25% Crit (yes, it is small, but that's not the main reason we are building this item).
Mortal Reminder: At last, for your 7th item, you can finish your Executioner's Calling or Last Whisper into Mortal Reminder.
Lord Dominik's Regards: Again, for your last item, you should finish your Last Whisper into Lord Dominik's Regards.
Death's Dance: Now that I like getting Transcendence as a rune, this item is SO WORTH! Assuming that you go with the "Super Late Game Build" from my build guide above, you will get 30% extra CDR (with blue buff). That would make Death's Dance a 86 Damage item + 30 armor / 30 magic resist! This will allow you to go into a teamfight without getting 1 shotted and deal a SH*T ton of damage.

When Zed auto's an enemy below 50% hp, he deals an additional 6 / 8 / 10% of their maximum HP as magic damage. The amount is increased at level 7 and level 17. This effect cannot occur on the same target more than once every 10 seconds.
This passive is really useful for your trades at early levels. It is important to proc this passive every time you are in a 1 v 1 fight to ensure maximum damage output. We will go over this later down in the combos section and what you should do at every level section...
Zed and his shadows throw their shurikens, dealing 80 / 115 / 150 / 185 / 220 (+1.0 per bonus attack damage) physical damage to all enemies they pass through, reduced to 60% against units beyond the first. Living Shadow: Additional shurikens striking the same enemy restore energy.
IMPORTANT/TIP: Landing your Qs on the same target restores the energy! This will be really useful in 1 v 1 matchups to ensure that you can use abilities without having energy problems.
In the earlier levels, your Q is on a very low CD. It will be your best interest to use them wisely. If you are in a harder matchup where the enemy is zoning you, you should try to farm and last hit minions with your Q. However, if the matchup is easy, you should use your Q to hit the enemy and then last hit with your autos.
Zed's shadow dashes forward, remaining in place for 5 seconds. Reactivating or repressing this ability will cause Zed to switch positions with this shadow. Zed's shadow(s) will mimic his basic abilities (Q and E). If both shurikens strike the same target Zed regains 30 / 35 / 40 / 45 / 50 energy Energy can only be restored once per mimicked ability.
This is your engage/gap closer and "get me the f*ck outta here" ability. This is the ability that makes outplays possible. Since the CD for Living Shadow is really long in the early game, you should use to wisely. If you don't see the enemy jungler, then you shouldn't use your W. However, if the enemy jungler is far away from you or very low HP, then use your Living Shadow to combo the enemy mid laner. Do this several times and you'll get a free kill.

Active: Zed and his shadows create a bust of shadow, dealing 70 / 95 / 120 / 145 / 170 (+0.8 per bonus attack damage) physical damage to nearby enemies. Zed's slash reduces the cooldown of Living Shadow by 1 second for each enemy struck. His shadows' slashes slow enemies by 20 / 25 / 30 / 35 / 40% for 1.5 seconds. Living shadow: Overlapping Shadow Slash striking the same enemy deal no additional damage but will incur an increased slow of 30 / 37.5 / 45 / 52.5 / 60% and restore energy.
IMPORTANT/TIP: If Zed hits the enemy champion with Shadow Slash, that reduces the cooldown of Living Shadow by 1 seconds for each enemy hit! By knowing this, you will learn advanced tips and tricks in no time.

Focus on poking and landing your Razor Shuriken! Try not to hit the minions with your Q since that would mess up your wave. For easier match ups, you should be able to freeze the lane and almost 2X your laners CS.

Assuming you've landed some Qs and the oponenent is at around 60% hp. At this point either ping your jungler to come for a gank/countergank or just all in. If you landed both of your Razor Shuriken + E, proc'd electrocute and your passive, the opponent should be dead if not within a Q and ignite away from dying. This forces them to back on low CS... If the wave is slowly pushing to you, you should also back and buy. If the wave is pushing, push the minions as fast as possible and back.

With the amount of gold that the opponent got from CSing, he shouldn't be able to buy an armor cloth. However, if the opponent does get an armor cloth, continue to poke for a kill potential at level 6.

Assuming that you have been getting 80% of the minions that spawn, you should be able to buy a Serrated Dirk at minute 4ish. If you can back and reset, I wouldn't suggest you to. You should at least wait for enough gold for a dirk+refillable potion, which is 900 gold.

When you all in, be SURE to know if the opponent have flash or stop watch. This way, you can delay your Razor Shuriken and land all three of your Qs (landing all 3 Razor Shuriken is hard, but knowing if the opponent has flash or not can really help you land the Qs)

For easier matchups, you should have at least 1 kill by level 7. If the enemy opponenet sits under turret or if the enemy jungler camps you, then look for a roam bot (bot lane is level 4 when you are level 6 and they are usually low). With the kill and the CS, you should be able to get Boots of Speed and a Long Sword.

Chances are, the opponent will likely zone you out of the first minion wave. Always try to get at least 4 minions from the first wave. Depending on how good the opponent is, you may be able to get all 6 minions.

If the lane is pushed into your turret, I would get Shadow Slash level 2 to get all the minions under turret (with E, there's literally no excuse to miss a minion under turret as Zed). While farming, try to sneak a Q or 2 at the opponent to poke him down. Then ask your jungler for help! If the jungler doesn't come, I would focus on farming and occasionally shoot out your W+E+Q combo. However, if you are against a Yasuo or any champion that can gap close, I would not throw out my W. Instead, I would use Living Shadow defensively.

Depending on your HP and the opponent's hp, I would really look for an all-in here and burn the opponent's flash. If not, reset the wave and recall.

Shove in the wave or clear the wave. Then start warding your bot side river with pinks and your trinket. This is when you should start roaming and looking for easy kills (when you are level 6, the bot lane is usually level 4, but they could be level 5 depending on the game). If there are no roaming options, you should still hide in a bush. This way, the enemy midlaner will ping that you're missing, which relieves pressure for your bot lane.

You probably won't be able to kill your opponent now (of course, if you have the chance, go for it). This is a period of shoving your lane, clearing wards, placing wards, creating pressure and roaming. If you do this correctly, you should be able to get some kills, if not, help out the side laners.

If you've made it this far, make sure to give a thumbs up to this guide! It would really help me alot!

One of the most common Zed combo is the W+E+Q or W+Q+E combo! It will be useful for laning phase trades and killing potential! Hitting both Razor Shurikenand your Shadow Slash will proc electrocute, which is really dangerous early game. If done correctly, you can get your opponent down to below 30% after 2-3 of this combos. In order to land your Razor Shuriken or Qs, place your shadow next to the enemy instead of right in front of the enemy. This will eliminate alot of space and increase the chances of you hitting the Q ( Razor Shuriken)

This is a MUST HAVE for Zed (yes, this means your ghost/cleanse Zed doesn't work...). If you don't run this spell, you will probably die to ganks, miss out on ALOT of kills and 100% get flamed by your teammates.
I take Ignite for 99.9999999999% of my matches. Zed snowballs really hard from early kills and ignite helps you to secure kills and have more lane pressure. Ignite is also strong against champions that heal or use Heal.
