[*] How do you suggest people playing AP varus trade damage early game against enemy mages who go [[Doran's Ring]], [[Doran's Ring]], [[Sorcerer's Shoes]] while using only [[Kage's Lucky Pick]] and [[Sorcerer's Shoes]]? [*] [[Greater Marks of Insight]] are not necessarily to deal with "early game" magic resistance... Squishy characters who don't gain magic res per level will have 30 magic res, 43 with [[Greater Glyph of Warding]]. 8.5 mpen from runes + 20 mpen from [[Sorcerer's Shoes]] means you're almost negating their magic res. These squishy characters are also high priority targets, and often don't build magic res until later in the game (a [[Guardian Angel]] or a [[Quicksilver Sash]]). Having 28.5 magic pen helps you own them before they make those items, and that isn't just "early game". [*] You say that you take [[Brute Force]] just to help "last hit minions", and you also say that the autoattack damage on [[Blighted Quiver]] helps last hit. If all you want out of it is last hitting, why not max [[Butcher]] and get 1 point of [[Brute Force]]? Personally I would use [[Brute Force]] too, but I would use it for the additional autoattack damage to harass enemy laners with and take advantage of his 575 autoattack range. [*] [[Abyssal Scepter]] is actually an [i]early game[/i] pick up on mages versus other mages (since it gives mres) and to further reduce a squishy's magic res since the mres reduction of [[Abyssal Scepter]] will drop magic res into the negatives, but regular magic penetration won't. Enemy AP carries and AD carries alike usually have low magic res compared to bruisers and tanky junglers. [*] You seem to think that only magic damage triggers spell vamp...? (RE: Only [[Chain of Corruption]] being affected by [[Will of the Ancients]].) [[Piercing Arrow]] and [[Hail of Arrows]] are also affected by spell vamp because they're "spells". [*] Under situational items, you have "Replacements for Berserker's Greaves" written instead of "Replacements for Sorcerer's Shoes". [*] Might want to mention that [[Deathfire Grasp]] is technically +0.04 AP, like how [[Blighted Quiver]] is +0.25 AP. [*] Don't really see the point of [[Nashor's Tooth]], especially when the rest of your items are high AP burst-y items. It's like you can't decide if you want to be burst or on-hit, so you cherry picked items from both pools. Getting [[Nashor's Tooth]] just delays your [[Rabadon's Deathcap]]. The cooldown is redundant when you should be getting blue buff, and you also have [[Elixir of Brilliance]]'s cooldown. What makes it seem especially nonsensical is that you're rushing a high ASPD item on a champion who has innate ASPD bonuses with his passive. You'd think that passive would give you flexibility with AP Varus's early game purchases instead. Just wanted to say that the reasoning for Nashor's tooth or the "on-hit items" is because attack speed is necessary to pull off his burst, therefore the faster he auto attacks the better, I treat that slot as his "utility attack speed" slot, if you will. A ward at Dragon not only covers, well, Dragon, but it also covers the blue buff purple jungle exit. Combined with a ward from mid, I found that this can almost completely shut down bot ganks. Top can try something like that, too, but an early Baron ward is not nearly as practical as a Dragon ward. [*] Ok, [[Taric]] is definitely not just a poke / sustain support. He runs a very potent kill lane which can swap to a zone lane at a moment's notice with an extra point in [[Imbue]], and if all else fails, a transition into a poke / sustain lane or a defensive lane can be done.
