- you have to use
Flash 80% of the time for
Idol of Durand to be effective
Resolute Smite got overnerfed
- S3 changes made his passive strategy not work so well (adding low apratios, gg)
- many players think he is an APcarry, when he really isn't, like people say
Urgot is an ADcarry when he naturaly isn't.
gg, next.
wow, I didn't expect him to be the lowest, even though I think he's not a good champion atm.
He can still be a pretty good lane bully versus a lot of APs once you pick up some mana regen, but he certainly has his issues. For one, he's not mobile and doesn't roam well (though I imagine
Teleport could work well on him). Two, his damage, though not bad, is not quite at the level of other, stronger AP mids right now. Three, his ult damage pretty much relies on a full channel (as the damage increases by 5% for every auto-attack on
Galio during his ult), which doesn't happen often as the ability can be interrupted quite easily by champions outside of the AoE or champs that build
Mercury's Treads. Also, as Pheyniex mentioned, for proper positioning,
Galio often needs to
Flash in.
Overall, just not a great champion. Honestly, he might even be a better pick as support right now, against bot lanes without sustain, as his ult damage won't be as important while his early damage from Q will still be high enough to bully his enemies.

actually forgot to mention this, but yes, AD is ever more popular right now, and most op picks are AD based.

If someone just stacks MR on Galio they're an idiot.
also

I feel the issue with

He's a good counterpick, but you have to not suck at him.
His passive needs a rework, since the new health meta it's kinda useless. Also he is quite easily counterpicked by an AD caster mid (Lee, Jarv, Kha, Zed). His other major problem is his mana, even with chalice you will run oom after a short while. If Riot addresses those 2 issues, he'll easily be a top pick in no time :)
