Threats & Synergies
If you're a competent Nidalee player this matchup is no threat. You outpace him in clear, have invade options with strong laners and generally don't struggle against him.
A good Rengar is very hard to beat. Who ever gets the first hit in usually wins unless the other is extremely strong. Play around his fury, if he has a way to get 4 fury combo then avoid at all costs. Zhonyas or an early armguard is a good purchase.
Not as free as some matchups but you have mobility to avoid his E Q combo and the damage and clear pace to match most of his early skirmishes.
Wukong is strong into AD junglers due to his passive, Nidalee is AP and can also reveal him while he is invisible if she lands a spear/trap. Be careful of jumping in as he can use his ultimate to cancel the movement and potentially outplay.
Can be pretty aids matchup, early game looking to avoid him while cautioning your laners is the best bet to keep him down. You can out teamfight and skirmish him going into the midgame though.
If he has priority laners it can be very hard to punish his farm heavy playstyle, we don't have the option of Athenes anymore for easy magic resist so attacking his laners is the only real option.
A very even matchup. This matchup shows the importance of practicing your clear, if you're able to match her in early pace you should have little problem.
A good Kindred's early pressure is hard to deal with, they can out duel you but if you manage to get some levels on them you are able to win.
Look to punish early with strong invades, track him and take away his chickens/krugs respawns. Red Kayn requires you to play carefully around his W, Zhonyas amazing if he goes Blue kayn.
Relatively similar to Xin Zhao, you are able to win at level 3/4 if you get the jump on him with a spear from fog. Look to destroy him around 2-3 items if you have a lead.
Hard matchup, using A click she can always knock you out of your engage/burst. Practicing spacing and doing Zhonyas buffer combos with your takedown.
I put him in Major as he becomes hard to deal with until you are extremely good at Nidalee, then he goes down to a 3. similar to Lillia in the respect of needing to outclear him, early fights are yours if you get the initiative.
Hecarim can be unstoppable after he gets snowballing, the new items are crazy strong on him. Early fights are hard to win because of Conqueror and his Q cd going down, if you cant kill him in your initial jump in combo you will lose and he will take over the game.
Fast and flexible clearing allows you to counter Ivern's marks with proper vision. He can never 1v1 you and you should be able to counter his ganks and win with your strong burst.
Verdant Barrier is a strong tool to beat Evelynn. Tracking her early and ensuring you can contest her clear is how you'll end up on top. TRAP PLACEMENT is VITAL in tracking her, put them in the river entrances to spoil her invis ganks.
W allows you to land your spear every time, strong early game enables your aggressive invades and ganks to work.
Hard CC for the spear with Q/R, strong skirmishes with her and converts well to late game too.
Land spears off his Q/time off his R, can also roam with you and take over the map.
E is awesome to use on Kaisa while fighting/hitting baron to increase DPS
Good solo lanes are important to Nidalee, allows you to fight early and look for invades is what you want. Try to enable and free up Camille to help you and you'll get good results.
Champion Build Guide
Hey guys I am Whynot and welcome to my Challenger Nidalee guide. I'm a Challenger Nidalee player and Pro player from OCE. I started playing Nidalee in early season 9 for competitive play. Nidalee was a champion I played a lot of when I peaked top 20 in season 10, I'd consider her my biggest comfort champ and I talk to many Challenger Nidalee players from different regions to constantly ensure I play her as well as I can. .
Speciality: Assassinating, Dominating, Carrying.
Why should you play this complicated champion? Nidalee is a great pick that can take over and destroy SoloQ games. Nidalee can outjungle opponents with ease, build large experience leads and leave the enemy jungler in the dust so hard the opponent laners will all chat 'Jungle Gap.'
+ Consistently Strong in the META|
+ Can 1v9 games at all ELOS
+ High Skill Cap
+ Extremely Fun and Enjoyable, especially when you start to get better at her
+ AP jungler, widen your pool away from only AD and Tanks
+ You are the limit of the Champion, so many options and strength
All in all, Nidalee is a great champion on Jungle for soloq. In soloq high tempo jungling is really strong, you will be able to destroy the enemy junglers mental as you put on a clinic of mechanics
- No hard CC in kit|
- Squishy when built full damage
- Hard playing from behind
- Takes a lot of practice to learn
- Requires strong clearing fundamentals and practice
Just like any other champion, Nidalee has her weaknesses. However, her strenghts heavily outweigh her weaknesses. When mastered and you know how to play around her weaknesses Nidalee will have dominating early games that you can transition to early wins for easy LP and plays.
For the second tree I advise looking at the runes at the top of the guide. I currently take Waterwalking Transcendence in 90% of my games. Transcendence because Ability Haste is such an important stat on Nidalee that synergizes well with her whole kit. Second taking Waterwalking because it is the other best option in the sorcery tree, AP and Movement Speed in river is good for scuttle fights and ganking lanes from river.
When I know I have to go Zhonya's Hourglass 2nd item I instead run Perfect Timing and Cosmic Insight. These are also strong choices for Nidalee giving her a cheaper Zhonya's Hourglass and haste on her Flash Smite and Zhonya's Hourglass
Challenging Smite vs Chilling Smite is generally personal preference. I personally believe Challenging Smite is a better choice due to how often Nidalee skirmishes and how she ganks. Usually you aren't in range of Chilling Smite when you throw the initial Javelin Toss making the slow redundant. However Challenging Smite is perfect after you jump in or hitting the enemy with ranged autos to ensure you win the fight.
There are currently a few good mythics for Nidalee to choose from, this guide will focus on Night Harvester.
Night Harvester is a perfect choice for Nidalee. The stats it gives her are ideal for high apm fighting, it allows her to burst, evade skillshots, survive hits and gives ability haste on top of that.
The passve is great versus squishy champions. The bonus damage on first contact with enemies makes your initial damage surprisinly strong. You can easily kill their carries with a single spear and basic cougar combo.
Time to explain the items other than the mythic.
On Nidalee the build path can be quite diverse .
Starting off with Night Harvester is standard. From there we can look to start itemizing based on enemy comp and what we need. Nidalee has a lot of damage with only that one damage item so you DONT need to rush pure ap and get an item like Horizon Focus, instead opt to build smart - identify what you need. Do they have high AD champs? Get a Seeker's Armguard and if you're vsing CC or just need the active, upgrade it into Zhonya's Hourglass. Have they got AP assassins? Verdant Barrier is a fine purchase which will give you scaling magic resist.
My most common buys are Lich Bane if I'm snowballing hard and want the damage, Zhonya's Hourglass if I want the safety of the active along with the amazing stats, or Void Staff if I want the damage spike. Void Staff is currently an INSANELY strong item, the item is 130% gold efficiant and boots your damage an insane amount. Seeing as Nidalee with this build is practically 100% AP damage you can imagine how much more damage you're doing when ignoring 40% of their magic resist.
When looking at 3/4th items look to round out with the other items mentioned that you haven't purchased. Night Harvester always 1st and then follow it with a mix of Lich Bane Zhonya's Hourglass Void Staff as your core with other options such as Banshee's Veil Cosmic Drive and Morellonomicon being more situational.
Finish up with a Rabadon's Deathcap if you still have item space and want the pure AP. Rabadon's Deathcap is extremely strong as Nidalee has amazing ratio's and makes good use of the high AP numbers on her Javelin Toss and her Primal Surge along with Lich Bane having a ratio that synergises well with Takedown.
Boot options are also preference for the most part. If you have the gold and the enemy won't pick up too much magic resist usually you opt for Sorcerer's Shoes, if you dont have enough for the item (800g after boots) or the enemy will get magic resistance then Ionian Boots of Lucidity works great as an economical purchase that also gives great power. Defensive boots are also viable with both Plated Steelcaps and Mercury's Treads being great choices when done for the right reasons. Kha'Zix and Rengar players hate a Nidalee with Seeker's Armguard and Plated Steelcaps the same way Evelynn and Elise players will cry seeing Verdant Barrier and Mercury's Treads in your inventory.
Last to talk about, Mejai's Soulstealer is a great item on Nidalee. You usually pick up a Dark Seal on your first base and from there you can assess if you want to upgrade it into Mejai's Soulstealer. When you reach 10 stacks on Mejai's Soulstealer you gain 10% bonus movement speed which is absolutely broken combined with the movespeed from Lich Bane.
1. Blue buff
5. red buff
This is a standard full clear starting from the blue buff. As Nidalee you have a very fast full clear. If you manage to spot the enemy jungler you can run into his opposite side and steal his camps. Keep an eye on the map and leave when it gets dangerous. You should practice your clears often, watch me on stream as I constantly explain how to clear as Nidalee and give examples on different paths.
1. red buff
5. blue buff
This is a full clear starting at the red buff side. What side I usually start depends on what I'm looking to achieve from my first clear, am I looking to get Top ahead? Is my support Leona giving me easy CC to follow up with a Javelin Toss for a free gank? Nidalee full clearing isn't a waste of options as she clears so fast you'll be ready to contest scuttle and start pressuring enemy laners and jungler
Teamfighting & Late game with Nidalee
Teamfighting as Nidalee is one of the hardest things to learn. When you first start off playing Nidalee you will land a spear and chase it, going into the enemy team 1v4 achiving nothing but a 30 second death timer. Teamfighting as Nidalee requires patience, attention and crazy APM.
The aim of the game is to win, to destroy the enemy nexus. The best way to do this is after teamfights that you come away on top of, 1st lesson is to swallow your ego and recongise what you need to do to win the fight. More often than not you'll have someone on your team whose job it is to carry the fight, there are a number of things you can do to enable a carry. If they're an ADC/ranged mid, make sure you have Bushwhack on the sides and flanks to spot any potential threats, be ready to Primal Surge to heal them or increase their DPS, make sure to land spears and use Prowl and Aspect Of The Cougar to maximize your damage by landing spears, tranforming for Swipe Takedown and then reverting back to human Nidalee to use Primal Surge again. What I'm trying to say is that every fight doesn't need to be you pouncing in to int when you can do more damage and help your team more by playing more conservatively. When the time is right and you are able to blow up an enemy with your Aspect Of The Cougar abilities after landing a Javelin Toss do so, this is one of the best parts about having Zhonya's Hourglass, you can buffer Takedown to kill an enemy and then be in stasis.
