Champion Build Guide
Introduction
Hello and welcome to my first ever guide! It seemed appropriate to do my first one for Lux as she was one of the first champions I got to mastery 7. I've worked hard on this guide and will look to improve it and update it whenever possible, so any feedback is greatly appreciated! I chose to main Lux as I am a fan of burst damage and CC, which lux has both through Light Binding and through her passive and ultimate Final Spark This guide is also applicable to taking Lux as support, but I would recommend sticking to mid. |
Pros / Cons
Spells
Code:
Flash: I shouldn't need to explain this one, a must for escapes and for making plays in lane, a must take |
Ignite: Can give you enough damage to in a fight to get away with a kill and your life. Deals true damage |
Heal: Give you a little bit of movement speed and HP, only take if against a high damage champion |
Ghost: Gives you enough movement speed to either escape a gank or to chase down and enemy to secure a kill |
Teleport: Good for getting back to lane, especially against champions with high wave clear. |
Barrier: take this instead of ignite if up against a tough laner. See below my use of it vs a Cassiopeia |
Skill Sequence
With lux, it's best to take skills depending on your match-up. For example, if you are against Gragas it is probably a good idea to max your Light Binding as he will try and engage on you with his lunge as much as possible.
However in most cases, its best to max your Lucent Singularity as this spell not only does great damage (especially after your proc your Illumination passive, but also because it has a slow, which can be extremely useful for either escaping, slowing enemies while chasing or for making it easier to land your Light Binding.
Example of Illumination being incredibly useful below
Items
This item is the obvious choice for lux, as it gives you that extra bit magic penetration. Another viable choice could be Mercury's Treads, which can give you better chances to escape when jumped on |
This item gives lux massive sustain in lane, increasing mana, reducing cooldowns and gives a big increase in ability power |
A must take if you really want to do some damage. This item gives you a massive increase in ability power, and is devastating when combined with high AP items such as Luden's Tempest and Morellonomicon. |
Helpful when you need to destroy a tank. |
Useful for when you want to survive a high burst attack from champions such as Zed and Talon. Also gives a nice little increase in AP. |
A personal favourite of mine. Sacrifices some survivability which could be obtained through the purchase of a Banshee's Veil, however it gives you massive burst potential, and the unique passive can help you do massive damage to their entire team. |
Team Fighting
When it comes to teamfighting, a good lux can make or break the game. One good Light Binding onto their adc and you can win the fight, however if you miss you skillshot it leaves you and your squishier teammates vulnerable to being focused by the enemy. The best thing a lux can do is to sit behind the tankier champions, and dictate the game from there. Let your team pounce on the enemy, then start engaging by throwing out your Lucent Singularity, and if possible leave it up to slow the enemy, before reactivating the skill and doing maximum damage. Try and save your Light Binding for chases or if you're in danger of being focused. However if you feel its safe to do so throw it out in the middle of the team fight, as it has nice damage and is a very good stun Always remember to throw your Prismatic Barrier out whenever possible in the fight, as its shielding power can make or break your engage |
Laning phase/farming
When the minions first engage in lane, throw your Lucent Singularity onto the enemy minions and hold it there until it naturally explodes (unless the enemy lanner steps into it, in which case reactivate it for good damage). This prevents your lanner from getting close to your minions and can make them lose some farm. Keep doing this for as long as possible for maximum effect, and try and aim your skill shot at your enemy, but also at the minions. Ensure you proc your Illumination passive whenever possible, particularly on the enemy lanner as this does huge damage right through the game and scales with your AP. Late game Lux should be farming using Lucent Singularity, and the wave clear potential is huge. Use this to split push, or to just hard push your lane early game so you can roam bot with you Final Spark |
First back if Behind
Lux Is perhaps one of the most fun champions to play on the entire game, and hopefully this guide has helped you to learn the basics of playing her. Like everything, practice makes perfect so get out on that grind and mastery the Lady of Luminosity!
