Introducation

Hello all, I go by Darksyyde or BangBangBrotha, feel free to add me on the rift. Prepare to learn Aatrox! Aatrox is AWESOME and there are few up to date builds on him, which is why I created this guide. Dominating in the jungle brings me much joy, so in that spirit I hope this guide is fun and full of great information to help you beast on the rift.

If you do not feel like reading much skip to Aatrox Theory. Included are a few tips that help to maximize your dps and clear your jungle--sometimes the enemies--as quick as possible :D!

Important Stats

STATS TO FOCUS ON

When Playing Aatrox you have three main focus points: Attack Speed, Slows, and Survivability (armor, magic resistance, and health).

1. Attack speed determines Aatrox's Damage from Blood Thirst/ Blood Price proc's. Every third hit Aatrox will either gain health or deal extra damage, so the faster this happens the quicker he deletes opponents or the quicker he regains health.

2. Slows are crucial on Aatrox. He is primarily a close range champion who relies on auto attacks. Therefore you need to make sure you opponent remains in range. This can be achieved through various Items. Stalker's Blade - Bloodrazor uses chilling smite to steal 20% run speed from the enemy champ while Frozen Mallet reduces enemy run speed on hit. These are just a few examples of useful items which will be explained in detail below.

3. Lastly Aatrox needs to be tanky. I'm sure you have all been deleted from the rift by a womboooo combooo before your Bloodthirster or Blade of the Ruined King could come in handy. That is why Aatrox needs health, armor and magic resistance. Higher defenses allow time to regain health. More importantly Aatrox will need time to build 5 stacks of Blood Well. Because Aatrox often enters a battle with zero stacks he will need to be tanky enough to endure till he can secure 5 stacks and go super saiyan with Blood Rush.

Abilities

You can scroll over the pictures to read the abilities. What they do is straight forward. Your main goal is to acquire 5 stacks of Blood Well and continue to maintain that 5 stacks. Mainting stacks while in the jungle is explained in "Aatrox Theory."

When in combat make you are using Blood Price early off to hit 5 stacks. Then use your best judgement to decide between Blood Price and Blood Thirst. If you want tank it up while your teammates finish em off use Blood Thirst and if you feel safe enough to forgo lifesteal to unleash some sick damage then go Blood Price.

Remember to cast Massacre to increase your auto range. I love the synergy between Massacre and Frozen Mallet, because if the opponent is able to get out of range then pop your ult, get one auto attack in, and BAM they are slowed and will once again be in deleting range.

Items

ITEM DESCRIPTIONS AND WHEN TO PICK UP

must buy first!! the Stalker's Blade - Bloodrazor provides you with a burst of damage and attack speed that will sustain you for an item or two, allowing you to build tanky on your second item. Also, the Slow from Stalker's blade is essential to keeping enemies within fighting range and synergizes nicely with Frozen Mallet.

the Frozen Mallet has been my second purchase every game. This is because, generally speaking, Aatrox is a close ranged champion with one gap closer. If the enemy manages to create distance between you and him you become useless. Frozen mallet helps slow the enemy down and keep them in deleting range. The +700 health is also nice against both AD and AP opponents.

Blade of the Ruined King adds an additional slow to your kit. it also increases your damage per second through heightened attack apeed and additional percent health reduction on hit. choose Blade of the Ruined King if your enemies seem to continue narrowly slipping away.

Guinsoo's Rageblade provides increasing attack speed after each auto capping at 6 stacks. Upon reaching 6 stacks you enter guinsoo's rage activating on hit effects every other attack. this means your Blood Thirst and Blood Price will activate every second hit instead of every third hit. choose Guinsoo's Rageblade if staying in range is no problem.

Mercurial Scimitar is nice because it synergizes with your lifesteal and necesity to evade crowd control effects--Aatrox's sole weakness. If Aatrox is stunned he cannot attack therefor no stacks, no lifesteal, no dmg...Make sure you have good attack speed before purchasing. buy as a 5th 6th item.

you purchase spirit visage if facing a fed AP champ or an AP heavy team. also consider vs AP burst champions. Along with increased health and respectable magic resistance Spirit Visage also increases healing from all sources by 30%. this synergizes very nicely with your Blood Thirst ability and helps regaining health after surviving an AP burst.

Adaptive Helm should be purchased when facing unrelenting AP champs such as Teemo, Taliyah, Varus, Vayne or Kog'Maw. if you are facing an AP jump which does sustainable AP damage make sure to pick this item up.

Look to purchase a Randuin's Omen when you are fearful of the enemy team's crits. maybe against a Tryndamere, Yasuo, Master Yi, or certain adc's. Randuin's Omen reduces damaage from crits as well as bolstering your armor and health. when used Randuin's Omen also slowly enemies within a 500 unit radius by 55%. as explained earlier slows are extremely helpful on Aatrox.

Thornmail reflects damage, applies grievous wounds and increases health and armor. Look to purchase if you are ahead and prefer your tanky item to help with damage output or if the enemy team has a decent amount of healing.

Aatrox Theory

Key tips resulting in successful Aatrox gameplay.

REMEMBER: Aatrox NEEDS 5 stacks of Bloodwell to maximize Damage, Attack speed, and to allow for Resurrection.

1. Early Jungle levels 1-3. never use Blood Price. keep your health up by spamming Blood Thirst.

2. once level 3 always begin jungle camps, even champion fights, using Blood Price. My first few games I thought it was difficult to get 5 stacks of Blood Well, until I realized your mainly stacking it with Blood Price.

3. Jungle level 3 and beyond. Start fight with Blood Price gain 5 stacks of Blood Well and then immediately switch to Blood Thirst. the increase attack speed will compensate for the health you forgo from using Blood Price to start the battle.

4. you cannot run from one camp to another without losing your stacks of Blood Well, therefore, Make sure to maintain your stacks of Blood Well by pulling jungle mobs close to the next camp as well as leaving Dark Flight or Blades of Torment up to quickly start the next fight and maintain your in combat status. This is crucial to clearing jungle quickly.

5. Always start fights with Blood Price whats the point of healing if you are at full health??

6. Early ganks welcomed. Aatrox has a great knockup and slow. BUT Aatrox is late game scaling. only go for securable ganks. If you have any doubt continue clearing jungle.

7. Counter jungle is fairly easy if you Keep Dark Flight up. If you can keep both Dark Flight and Blades of Torment up and have eyes--to keep watch on enemy laners--counter jungling should be extremely safe.

8. Buy Stalker's Blade - Bloodrazor first and Frozen Mallet second.

9. Whenever you have an extra 300g buy a Dagger. Literally no matter what your building no matter what the point in the game, If you have 300g and space then buy a Dagger.
