Riven

Riven is a champion that synergizes so well with items, that any nerfs or buffs or reworks actually affects her alot. She plays around her powerspikes, and is able to turn the tides in battles due to her presence. Riven is highly versatile, so you cannot tie her down to a single playstyle. Her role in clashes can vary from killing high priority targets, protecting your adc, or just straight up peeling for your team.

Combos and animation cancels:

Combos and Animation cancels are one of the things you absolutely must have to learn in order to play riven effectively. The Fast Q combo especially allows you to stack Conqueror almost instantly.
Before mechanics, I suggest you familiarize yourself with Riven's AoEs or Range in the practice tool as hitting your skills is vital in every champion.

In order to play well you'll have to learn 3 mechanics:

• E/R animation cancel; and

• Q animation cancel(aka fast Q combo)

Note: you do not have to master all wall hops, but getting familiar with the easier ones should be enough.

These three skills summarizes the components of advanced riven combos. The advanced riven combo tutorials on Youtube are simply reiterations or different ways of using these three skills. As most champions can do, you can weave in flash with some of your skills.

Note:
If Renekton and Darius have Ghost, don't try to get close, they'll be able to chase you down and kill you easily. When fighting against high hp-scaling opponents, your best chance at fighting them is the early game.

Renekton:

Renekton is tanky and has alot of damage in his skills, he can get snowbally if he gets a kill on you so watch out. In this matchup, it is important to build relatively tanky buy building 2 Ruby Crystal early and either a Doran's Blade or a Doran's Shield, do NOT start longsword, we need the extra 80 health to succesfully trade early.

Level 1: Assuming he does not have ghost, you still have to play around fairly safe, make sure he doesnt stack his rage too much, so stay close so he cant freely clear your wave and get lvl 2 before you. The goal is to determine whether he took Cull the Meek or Ruthless Predator level 1. If he took Cull the Meek, you can go ahead and trade him or actually get the kill if he plays it bad or if u have ignite. If he recalls, it's fine. he will miss alot of gold and exp. If he TPs, you can ask your jungler for a gank which will deny him even more gold and exp possibly giving you a 2 level lead.

Darius:

Darius another tank that deals damage, he can also snowball out of control and you won't win lane. In this matchup, build the same as against a renekton. Darius get's stronger in long and sustained fights, so you are gonna want to trade him a couple times before you go for the all-in.

Playstyle: You are want to trade darius without him trading back. this is doable by doing a Q > Auto > EW combo which doesn't allow him to trade back. Note that you should never let darius cancel your Valor with his Apprehend. If he is able to cancel your dash, you are gonna lose the trade, or end up dying. Once he reaches to around 50% or lower hp, you are able to all-in him and kill him.

Rumble:

Rumble is a poke/harass/bully champion that riven can struggle against because he doesn't have a mana pool. He can easily trade you while you are taking cs. Before level 3, you have a chance to kill him since he does not have Scrap Shield yet. Make sure to get as much cs as possible when you have your Valor up so you can stay longer in lane. Build Hexdrinker on your first back.

Starting Items:

Doran's Shield with Second Wind if you are at a disadvantage and need survivability.
Doran's Blade if you want to go more aggressive.
Long Sword and 3 Health Potions if you win the matchup.

Conqueror Conqueror is a one rune fits all, you can never go wrong with conqueror on Riven

Legend: Tenacity Legend:Tenacity is a rune most often underestimated by low elo players. Building it with Mercury's Treads significantly reduces the time you're stunned and can most often keep you alive.

Electrocute Riven used to go Thunderlord's Decree which was kind of the old version of electrocute. Personally, I do not use this rune as conqueror can be good with Riven in all situations. Don't get me wrong, Electrocute still does well on Riven, but not as well as conqueror.
