Greetings summoners, and welcome to my Ezreal's guide. I'll be helping you to have a better understanding of Ezreal. I've been playing since the game was released and Ezreal is one of my favorite ADC champion right now, especially for climbing out the so called 'elo hell'.

I am nowhere a 'pro' but i like to help people who wants to try out Ezreal.
This guide will focus on what Ezreal is.

Well then, let's get started and i hope you learn something from this guide.

Pros / Cons

Pros / Cons

+ Deadly poke with Mystic Shot and Essence Flux
+ Arcane Shift is like an inbuilt Flash
+ Ezreal can kite all day
+ Ezreal can deal burst damage
+ He can snipe runaway enemies with his Trueshot Barrage

space space

- Lack crowd control (CC)
- Very very squishy
- Requires to have mana control due to Ezreal being a skill user
- He gets focus, a lot.
- Usually have lower attack speed compare to other ADC (like Vayne, grave, Caitlyn, which prevent him from doing a standoff
- Requires some skill for an ADC, because you don't just right click to win

Mastery Explanations

My masteries set up is a pretty standard set up. Maximizing on offense tree for maximum damage output and leftover on defense for extra survivability.

  • 1 point in summoner's wraith to have an increase attack damage when Ignite is on cooldown. 5 Attack damage can make the difference of being killed or getting the kill.
  • 4 point in Fury for an increase in attack speed, which is something that Ezreal lack. Can help with last hitting during early game phase
  • 4 point in Deadliness and a point in Weapon Expertise for an increase in damage output. Havoc also helps increase the damage by %.
  • Brute Force increases your attack damage by 3 when it's maxed, helps you to last hit early game
  • Lethality increased your critical damage, since it will be your second main source of damage next to Mystic Shot
  • Executioner helps you deal more damage to dying champion, which means more kills.

  • Durability and Veteran's Scars gives you extra hp to start off the game with, which gives extra survivability.
  • Hardiness gives you extra armor, since you'll be facing another ADC when you're laning at bot, this allows you to take more harass
  • Resistance Leftover point goes here since some supports such as Sona and Janna mostly use their spell to harass you. This extra magic resist can help you takes the harass

Summoners Spells

Summoners Spells
  • Flash allows you to escape from enemies, jump pass over wall and since you have Arcane Shift, you can do double flash. If that's not good enough, i don't know what is.
  • IgniteLets you finish off enemies who got away with little Hp. It also reduce enemy's healing. Good pick if you're against a healer such as Soraka and Taric
Other options
  • exhuast reduced movement, attack speed, and damage. It's a good spell but it's better for the support to take.
  • Cleanse removes all debuff from your champion. I suggest getting this if the enemy have a hard cc.
  • Heal is a good spell during early-mid game but falls off at late game
  • Barrier gives your champion a shield when activated. Not a fan of using it in SR, but still viable.
  • Teleport is good for getting back in lane faster and useful for ganking lanes.

> > >
  • Mystic Shot: Ezreal primary damaging skill. This ability proc on hit effect such as Sheen and Phage which makes it even more dangerous. Another thing about this skill is that it reduced all Ezreal abilities cooldown by 1 second when it is hit. And yes, when i mean all, it also reduce its own cooldown. It also scales amazingly with your AD and a good amount with your AP
  • Essence Flux: Kinda useless on AD Ezreal. It does give extra attack speed if it pass through your teammate, but mostly used for stacking Rising Spell Force.
  • Arcane Shift: This what makes Ezreal to have an amazing mobility. It's an inbuilt Flash specially for Ezreal.
  • Trueshot Barrage: This is what makes Ezreal a true terror. Trueshot Barrage can go from one end to the other end. This allows you to snipe escaping enemies or even deal early damage to the entire enemy team when they're grouped when a fight is about to begin. It scales both with AD and AP, that's the upside. The downside is it deals 8% less damage for each additional unit hit. So if you want to deal the most damage to an enemy, try avoiding shooting it through a wave of minions.

Starting items
This is a good item to start it because it provides you with an additional movement speed and allows you to buy 3x health potions at the beginning of the game, which gives you some sustain for early laning phase.
This item provides an extra attack damage and life steal to start your game off. Usually you start with Doran's Shield if you know you'll have an easy lane. You have a support that can sustain you, such as Taric, Sona or Soraka.
Core items
Ezreal main item. It gives you a 150% extra damage after using an ability. This mean that Mystic Shot proc Sheen effect and deal almost double damage. It also allows Mystic Shot and Ezreal basic attack to proc slow from Phage, which means more kiting!
Gives you insane amount of attack damage and life steal. Allows Mystic Shot to deal a ton more damage. This item allows you to trade even better due to the high life steal and attack damage.

Situational items
This item gives you a huge amount of armor penetration, which allows you to dish out more damage. I usually take this instead of The Black Cleaver because the last whisperer doesn't require stacking like The Black Cleaver do.
One Ezreal is scary? Try two! This item allows you to revive after being killed, so if the enemy team threw everything on you, you will revive again and guess what? The enemy will most likely used up most of their skill and your team can beat them up during this team.
The enemy hasn't surrender? Infinity Edge will surely makes them to. This item gives a butt load of attack damage, critical strike chance and critical damage.
Quicksilver Sash with attack damage? Yes please. It removes all debuffs on you, give magic resist and attack damage. Perfect defensive and offensive item.
Only have tried this item a few times personally. It gives Sheen proc and creates a field that slows surrounding enemies on the next basic attack. This works well with all Ezreal skill, which means you can spam this slow. It does gives armor but in my opinion, getting a Trinity Force is better. It has more benefits for Ezreal compare to Iceborn Gauntlet
The Black Cleaver gives cd reduction, health, attack damage, armor penetration and armor reduction. This item is the current favorite of S3 due to the armor reduction.

In depth discussion (Lots of reading)
Boots of Speed allows you to purchase an additional 3 Health Potion at the start of the game. So it gives you movement speed and sustain during laning phase. Now lets see Doran's Blade, it gives 10 attack damage, 80 health and restore 5 health on each basic attack. Now lets look at some numbers, Health Potion restores 150 health over 15 seconds, which mean 10 health/second. During early game, one second can only allow you to basic attack one enemy, which means 5 health/second. Now, you multiply the Health Potion by 3, you get 450 health restoration that can be used without having to auto attack creeps and resulting in pushing the lane. As i mention earlier, Doran's Blade should only be bought at the start of the game if you have a support that can sustain you such as Sona, Soraka, or Taric. But even then, i think Boots of Speed and 3x Health Potion is still a better choice to start the game with.

This is a tough choice to make, both items gives amazing status that benefits Ezreal in one way or another. Let's look at each items separately.

Trinity Force : 30 Ability Power, 30 Attack Damage, 30 Attack Speed, 10 Critical Strike Chance, 250 Health, 200 Mana, 8 Movement Speed Multiplier. UNIQUE Passive: Icy: Your basic attacks have a 25% chance to slow your target's Movement Speed by 30% for 2 seconds (20% for ranged attacks). UNIQUE Passive: Spellblade: After using an ability, your next basic attack deals bonus physical damage equal to 150% of your base Attack Damage. 2 second cooldown. Does not stack with Sheen or Lich Bane. The status it gives are quite random, but it allows your basic attack to have a 25% chance to slow enemies by 20$ (yes, it works with your Mystic Shot), the Sheen proc which also works with Mystic Shot, some AP, AS and movement speed.
Total price:4200

Iceborn Gauntlet: 40 Ability Power, 60 Armor, 15 Cooldown Reduction, 500 Mana. UNIQUE Passive: Spellblade: After using an ability, your next basic attack deals bonus physical damage equal to 125% of your base attack damage to surrounding enemies and creates a field for 3 seconds that slows enemies inside by 35% (2 second cooldown).. The Sheen proc on this item is 25% less compare to Trinity Force, does not provide additional attack damage or movement speed. Now for the positive: Your Sheen proc now deals damage to surrounding enemies, yes, your Mystic Shot have a small AOE, and guess what, it also created a field that slows enemies by 35%. It gives armor (which always good), 15 CDR (more spammable skills) and 500 mana (no more oom during fight).
Total Price: 3400

To sum it up, Trinity Force would be the item i take if i know i'm ahead in gold/both team are doing well. While Iceborn Gauntlet is more of a survival item, getting this item would be a good choice if they have gap closers like Shen or Jax, the armor it provide will allow you to take less damage before you can arcane shift away. The slow also will allow you to kite them much harder since the slow is 100%, unlike Trinity Force, which is only 25% chance to happen.

The Bloodthirster and Infinity Edge is the two items that are usually used by AD carry for their main damage source. But which one benefits Ezreal the most? Let's take a look at each items.

The Bloodthirster: 70 Attack Damage, 12 Life Steal. Passive: Gain +1 Attack Damage and +0.2% Life Steal per kill. Maximum of +30 Damage and +6% Life Steal. Bonuses are halved upon death. Total Price: 3000

Infinity Edge: 70 Attack Damage, 25 Critical Strike Chance. UNIQUE Passive: +50% critical strike damage. Total price: 3800

Both items give the same amount of attack damage, which is 70. The additional status are 12 life steal for The Bloodthirster and 25 critical chance for Infinity Edge. Now, considering Ezreal don't rely on critical chance that much unlike other AD carry ( Vayne , Ashe), the life steal is a better addition for Ezreal. On top of that, The Bloodthirster's passive allows you to farm up another 30 attack damage and 6% life steal when it's maxed. So in the end, The Bloodthirster is a much better item for the source of Ezreal's damage since it gives a much higher AD compare to infity edge and the life steal also works with Mystic Shot, which allows you to regenerate Hp during fights.

Now to the part where i see is most debated. The Black Cleaver vs Last Whisper. One item gives armor penetration while the other is armor reduction. First of all, let's try to understand the difference between the two.
Armor penetration is a champion statistic that allows the champion to ignore some or all of a target's armor.

Armor reduction is the effect of some items and champion abilities that temporarily reduces the armor of one or more targets. It also can reduce armor below 0.

So armor penetration penetrate enemy's armor by certain % while armor reduction reduce their armor by a certain %. Armor reduction also allows your team-mate to attack that enemy with their armor reduced. The Black Cleaver gives 25% armor reduction at maximum stack while last whisper gives 35% armor penetration.

Now let's do some calculations.

Armor reduction: The target's armor is multiplied by a percentage (100% − the listed reduction).
Example: 25% armor reduction multiplies the target's armor to 75%, so a target with 30 armor will be reduced to 22.5 armor. (30 × 0.75 = 22.5)
Example 2: On target with 200 armor. The target armor will be reduced to 150 (200 x 0.75 = 150)

Armor penetration: The target's armor is treated as being multiplied by a percentage for purposes of damage calculation (100% − the listed penetration).
Example: 35% armor penetration causes the target to take damage as if its armor was multiplied by 65%, so a target with 30 armor will be treated as though it had 19.5 for the purpose of damage calculation (the target's actual armor value will not change, however).
Example 2: Percentage armor penetration makes a bigger difference on targets with higher armor. For instance, with 35% armor penetration, a target with 200 armor will be considered as having 130 armor ( 200 x 0.65 = 130)

As you can see, Last Whisper allows you to attack enemies with their armor much lower. But The Black Cleaver allows you and your team-mate to attack the target with a lower armor. So one item is built for the whole team while the other only for a player. If your team have Wukong or Garen and they have The Black Cleaver, i would suggest getting Last Whisper for higher damage. But if your jungler is an AD champ like Lee Sin or Nocturne, getting The Black Cleaver will help them dish out more damage too.

Bot lane Partners

These are some common bot lane partners/supports that can work well with Ezreal. I've given each one of them rating based on my experience and play style.

Rating: 9/10
This guy can help you bring the enemy to you with his Rocket Grab, knock it in the air with Power Fist and his Static Field does damage and silences enemies nearby. One of the best support in my opinion

Rating: 9/10
This girl right here, is a good support to play with if you want to go aggressive in lane. 3/4 of her skills can stun the enemy, making it one of the best support ever.

Rating: 8/10
Haven't seen a lot of Nami since she was released, but she's one hell of a support. She can imprison enemies with Aqua Prison, allowing you to just attack them while they do nothing. Nami can also heals with Ebb and Flow, buff and cause your attack to slow with Tidecaller's Blessing. Lastly, her ultimate, Tidal Wave, gives another CC and damage.

Rating: 8/10
Probably the most badass support in this game. He can heal Imbue, increase ally armor Shatter, stun Dazzle and increase your attack damage with Radiance. You can go aggressive when laning with Taric and still able to have a sustain throughout laning phase.

Rating: 8/10
One dangerous cow. Amazing crowd control due to Pulverize and Headbutt, great sustain with Triumphant Roar which is a spammable heal, and can tank like a tank should with his Unbreakable Will. They will fear you.

Rating: 5/10
You can spam all of your Mystic Shot to last hit or harass all you want when you lane with Soraka. She can return the mana with Infuse(which also silence when used on enemy) and her Astral Blessing heals you and give you armor at the same time. The only reason why i didn't put it in top pick is that she lacks CC.

Rating: 6/10
She can grant additional attack damage with Hymn of Valor, heal with Aria of Perseverance, give movement speed with Song of Celerity and make enemies dance with Crescendo. The reason why i didn't put it in top pick is that she's much squishier early game compare to top pick supports, making her an easy target.

Rating: 7/10
Lulu is an okay pick in my opinion. She does have great CC such as Whimsy, Glitterlance and Wild Growth. She can also reveals enemies when she hit them with Help, Pix!.

Rating: 5/10
A rarely seen support. Karma is underrated and people misjudged her true power. Karma is able to dish out damage while healing herself and nearby allies with Heavenly Wave. Speedbuff ally with Spirit Bond and a shield that can explode and deal damage Soul Shield. Karma lack of cc would make the enemies to still able to target you, be careful.

Rating: 7/10
Provides a good CC with Howling Gale and Zephyr. She can also shield you with Eye Of The Storm and heal while pushing enemies away with Monsoon. I put her in ok pick because her sustain is only Monsoon, which is her ultimate.

Rating: 7/10
This is more of a kill lane support. Lux doesn't have sustain or a strong cc. Lux only have a snare Light Binding as her cc. But she can deal burst damage with a combo of Light Binding, Lucent Singularity and finales funkeln. On top of that, with Ezreal's Trueshot Barrage, it's one hell of a burst. Oh and she can shield ally with Prismatic Barrier

Rating: 7/10
Another kill lane support. Champions like Zyra and Lux were made to be a middle lane champion, so their damage output is greater compare to other support. Zyra's only cc is Grasping Roots. Stranglethorns could knock enemies airborn, but it's not instantly, so they still can walk out of Stranglethorns range before it begins to knock them up. Zyra's Rampant Growth is a free sight ward, this will allows you to see incoming ganks.

Rating: 6/10
Nidalee is the same as Lux and Zyra, a usually mid/top champ that sometimes used as a support. Her Primal Surge can restore a good amount of your health. Bushwhack can be used as sight ward, it can reveal enemies that step on it, helps to see incoming jungler that might come and gank for you. Her Javelin Toss does a lot of damage when maxed, but most support Nidalee will max Primal Surge first, so don't count on Javelin Toss to do a lot of damage during laning phase. But at 6, when she gets her aspect of the couger, you can go all out since her Swipe will be at high level, and will do quite some damage.

Early game lv 1-9

This stage of the game can decide whether you'll be having an easy game or will be one tough game. This is the reason why you'll want an early game dominance. Have control of your lane, play smart, be aggressive, and don't forget to look at map once in a while for missing enemies. During this stage, you'll want to :
  • Farm, last hit those creeps, don't auto attack them because you don't want to push the lane
  • Never overextend.
  • Keep the minions in the middle of the lane, or better yet, freeze the lane in front of your tower.
  • Zone out the enemies so they can't farm
  • Watch for ganks
  • Call mias.
  • Harass the enemies when they try to last hit or just simply in range with Mystic Shot or auto attacks
  • Buy one or two sight ward if you have extra gold. Yes, it's a support job to get it but helping them once in a while won't kill you.

Mid game lv 10-14

This is the stage of the game where small fights will begin to starts. Some lanes will already destroy their tower, some haven't. Some people will still pushing lanes, some will go around farming everything they can find. Starting on from this stage of the game, you should never travel alone, have your support come with you or anyone else, just never alone.

The priorities during mid games are:
  • Farming
  • Dragon
  • Team fights
  • Towers

When pushing a lane, make sure there are sight ward covering the path to the lane, so you know when an enemy is coming at you. When to push:
  • You see 3 or more enemies at other lanes. Example: 3 enemies are at top, you can push the mid or better yet, bottom lane with at least 2 people. So if the rest of the enemy shows up, you'll have a fair fight or even a fight with more advantage.
  • You're with your entire team. When you do this, make sure Dragon and Baron is warded so they won't try anything funny.

Grab red whenever it's possible, this will help you to deal more damage and kite better

Late game lv 15-18

This is where you will shine, where you determine where the game is heading, where you decide between winning and losing. Never, ever, go alone to an area that is not warded. A good support will have their jungle and enemies jungle warded at the crucial point, going alone will allow the enemy to catch you, slaughter you and making it a 4vs5 fight for your team.

Your main target during fights are:
  • AD/AP carries
  • Support
  • Off-tanks
  • Tanks

This part of the game decides between a good and a bad AD carries. Remember, to stay at the back of your team, use Mystic Shot and auto attacks. Only attacks enemies close to you, never goes in with your Arcane Shift just so you can attack their carries. If you do this, you will give your positioning, which means you're vulnerable to cc and eventually deals less damage in the fight because you die first. Remember, Ezreal can kite the enemies away, so if you see their tanks like Singed or Shen coming at you, Mystic Shot for Phage proc, Arcane Shift away if they're getting closer. It'll be more likely that they go back since they're leaving their team open for our tanks to go in.

Guide Top

Ezreal is not like most AD carries. He doesn't rely on attack speed, instead he rely on Mystic Shot and the Sheen procs that Trinity Force provides.

Ezreal requires skill to play since you can't just right click an enemy to kill it. You must use all Ezreal's skills in order to kill them. It will require some play time and dedication to master Ezreal, to know when to use aracane shift and to know how to position yourself during fights.

I made this guide because i just like Ezreal and i wanted to share my knowledge with you all. If you like this guide, i would appreciate it if you leave a comment on what to improve, or what you want to see more. If you dislike it, tell me why and what can i do to make it better.

I hope you enjoyed reading this guide as much i enjoyed making it.
