Well, hello there. I'm GokuBurakku I'm a Gangplank main who once had 600k mastery points on the Reaver King before getting banned. I have a guide on here from my old account called " Yarhar fiddle dee dee, being a gp main is alright with me! " or something along those lines, by the account MrTempZz.

It's pretty outdated, it has a lot of misinformation on it and I just would rather remake the thing entirely.

For example, it says I'm a twitch streamer, but now I stream on mixer, under the name of GokuBurakku, I prefer the no delay on chat and like to interact so that's why I am on that dead website.

Now, before you all have a go at me and tell me I suck and shouldn't make a guide, you're absolutely right, but still, I wanted to make this guide as I hit Plat with GP this season and pretty proud of that especially as it took me 600k mastery points to do it. I also recently stopped playing GP as much, and took on Sett (Guide coming soon.) as my main character, and thought I'd share my tips and tricks and knowledge for the pirate champ.

This guide isn't as beautiful as others, for example RTO's guide is GORGEOUS, ******* all those pretty pictures, avatars and stuff. Got links in it and sh!t too it looks JUICY. But I'm gonna try my best to be informative and share as many tips as I can, Gangplank is a very hard champion to get into and if you play him he's really fun. Especially if you like fighting games as Gangplank has "Combos" that you can learn and play with that make him a great and interactive champion.

Right so this little page is where I outline the stuff about GP, his abilities, his pro's and con's, his reasons to play, his reasons to avoid (Gotta have them. Gotta be unbiased.) And all the juicy details he has.

Lore

He's a pirate, badass, got killed by MF but ate and orange and it was k, came back alive and kicked some ***. That's pretty much the gist of it.

Gameplay

When playing Gangplank you're gonna be quite boring early game, you're just gonna sit back, farm and do your best. A lot of characters that are picked in this meta just steamroll you unfortunately. And we've all played soloque and know junglers are pretty YIKES when it comes to ganks.

Most of the game you're gonna take short trades, using your trial by fire and your barrels to output as much elongated "burst" as you can. Then you'll run, hide under your tower like a little girl and wait to get items.

You'll be spamming Q and E a lot, or 1 and 3 whatever your preference, Q Is Gangplanks farming tool, as it's a low cooldown, single target ability that does high damage and if it gets a kill, gives you Silver Serpents and extra Gold.

Listen, I know what you're thinking. "Why shouldn't I play him? Why would you say that in a guide?"

I ain't gonna lie to you folks, Gangplank can be a very tilting champion to play as. You don't really have much kill potential early game and you're pretty easy to gank, if someone is coordinated or knows what they're doing, they'll bait out your orange/wait for you to use it and then kill you. Your orange is your only get out of jail free card and without it you're pretty dead, it's just the way it goes, if I praised GP's strengths and didn't outline his weaknesses then I'd feel bad just for lying to you. These pro, challenger players who talk about how GP Is broken and does high damage are VERY CORRECT. But they are the 0.3% of league where they have GOOD teams who do what they're supposed to, gank, objectives, ward etc.

Us normals, the majority of players who are gold/plat, don't get that luxury and it makes GP hard to climb with. That being said, I'm going to highlight some pros, then some cons, and then give you, my overall opinion on Gangplank.


Pros!

In this little bit I'm basically gonna fanboy over gangplank for a bit. Hope you're strapped on, I mean in.

First pro, he's a PIRATE, so that makes him instantly the best champion in the game I don't care what you say, and he's honestly one of the most fun champions in League of Legends. I've mained a large chunk of the cast in League, I've teetered between all roles and Gangplank is the only champion (apart from Udyr and Kayn (Also Sett now)) That I've latched onto and played a lot. I've never surpassed a few thousand mastery points on most of the champions I played, but Gangplank? WHOOOOOO BOY. I hit 600k and wanted to get to 1m before getting banned, I'm on a new account now but I don't play Gangplank that much anymore, I'm trying to get Sett under my belt. (Yes, even when he's nerfed I'll still play him. I just like his design.)

Gangplank fits my playstyle, somewhat perfectly. My favourite part of League is farming, some find it tedious, some find it boring but I love it. I come from Dota 2, a game where you are basically farming 90% of the time and playing Gangplank seriously rewards that behaviour and I like it. His Q Lets him generate SO MUCH MONEY and he's the only champion that I know of that has "Combos" that take skill. I'm someone who plays fighting games competitively, so having combos makes him that much more enjoyable for me. Don't worry I'll explain combos in the next few paragraphs.

His combos, great addition to the game. He's the only champion that I know of that SETS HIMSELF UP and interacts with himself, you've got all sorts of combos. The ghost barrel, the one part, the three part, the flash barrel, the melee three part (Same as a three part, but you melee the barrel instead of Qing it. ******* hard, but fun if you hit it of.) and it just adds a mechanic to League that just adds some variety. You can tell an experienced GP player from a noob based off his combos.

This man also has CRAZY damage. Get enough items and you'll blow apart the team with one barrel like it's ******* NOTHING.

Cons!

He's pretty squishy, sorry boys but he's not exactly a tank. And in this current meta it seems like tanks dominate toplane a lot. Hell even Tobias Fate hates toplane because it's boring and plagued with "Cancer champs". Orange can make you tanky to an extent but it's nothing compared to the other champions in toplane.

His power spikes can take a while, seriously. Triforce is his BIG powerspike, yeah Sheen gives him a bit of trading potential, but that's not enough to call it a major power buff. You spend most of your time farming trying to get to 13 so you can get combos done in teamfights. Without Items, Gangplank can feel really ****py. If you're 0/7, with just cloth armor and boots you'll be stuck there for a while.

Very easy to gank too, that's a problem he faces. They nerfed his ability to play like Teemo and just place safety barrels everywhere, before the nerf his barrels would last like 60 seconds, give vision and you could have so many in your lane that you would be ungankable. They only last 25 seconds now and don't give you vision so if you get your orange baited, you're dead.

Overall

Overall? Honest opinion? I think Gangplank is still a really fun and easy to learn champion that you should at least TRY once in your life, he's an experience I'll tell you that. Just make sure you really, really learn your combos before going into ranked with him. You need those combos to do any kind of damage, without barrels GP is just an old man with a pistol, sword and a ****py wooden arm.

The removal of Klepto hit GP hard. As I said earlier, no in his winrate, but in his funrate. He used to be SO fun with Klepto, infinite sustain, gold generation, item gain and just was a great champion to play. Wasn't overpowered in any right, but definitely extremely enjoyable.

Hope this guide was semi-useful for anyone wanting to pick up the champion and learn him. I'm going to be making a Sett one soon, so, hopefully it looks much better than this guide, my original GP Guide actually looked really nice, I've just forgotten how to do it all. It's been about 2 years I think, I don't remember exactly.
