Pretty hard matchup in my opinion since this guy just has a strong laning phase and can get onto you pretty easily, everytime you auto him you'll want to walk back because his Q range is like the exact samge range as your auto range, if you can get him low while in mini and jump on him in mega you can usually kill him, if you he revives you should still be able to kill him in laning phase since it doesn't heal that much and you can usually stick onto him easily. Best tip for this lane is just to try to dodge his Q's and weave in autos and Q's when you can and all in with mega.
Cho'gath is very strong right now just because the way his ult works, he will probably out scale you in teamfights but lane should be in your favor, he HP stacks hard especailly with his ult giving base HP each time he eats something so your W is always going to do a lot of damage to him, not only that but he will be eating minions most likely to get his 6 stacks in lane so he basically doesn't have ult for awhile. You can pressure Cho'Gath a lot in lane but I think he is easier and tankier then Gnar out of lane.
Darius has a big con which is being kited and that's what Gnar is good at doing so this matchup should be fairly easy, the only thing you have to look out for is if he ever gets on you somehow you're probably toast if you're in mini because of squishy you are and how strong his kit is, although like I said you can kite him really well, and once you get frozen mallet I don't think he can do much to you. Remember that your auto range is about his E range so if he ever pulls you in just e away and keep kiting him, he doesn't have another way to get onto you unless he has flash or ghost up.
Easy matchup since he hard HP stacks and again gets kited easily by ranged, try your best to dodge his Q's, if you dodge them he has really no way of ever killing you or even getting onto you.
A good camille is kind of scary and she does have a few ways to get onto you so this matchup can be kind of hard, try your best to win it early before she gets ult because if she traps you in your mini form you are probably screwed, I don't feel that she has full control over the lane though because you can E her E pre 6 and then kite her, another thing to note is mega Gnar is really good against her because she's squishy as well, and usually rushes damage items.
Fiora is a pretty even matchup that you should win early on, she is a little bit harder to kite then most champions because her Q is such a low cooldown and they usually get a black cleaver, phage, or trinity, once she has her ult she has kill pressure on you but you can still kite her fairly well, remember to play around her parry to and try to bait it out if you're in mega and want to fling her into the wall, she is pretty squishy early so I think this matchup is pretty even and will depend on skill for the most part. Early bramble vest can be good in this matchup so she doesn't heal up so much as well.
This match up is pretty annoying since he has a way to poke you down in your mini form and the damage can really add up, try your best not to get hit by his barrels he is pretty squishy as well so try to hit as many Q's as you can, and remember he can fruit to cleanse your stuns in your mega phase or even frozen mallet, I think you should win this matchup mid to late game but early on can be a pain.
Pretty easy matchup Garen struggles a lot with kiting and you can pretty much keep him under pressure the whole lane and even under turret so he loses a bunch of cs if you're safe enough to get out if the jungler comes, he should pretty much never be able to Q you early game or even spin all over you, and his spin is pretty weak early game anyway, and your W procs will do a lot to him.
Irelia is pretty hard in my opinion just because she can basically all in you at anytime while you're in your mini form, watch closely when she is about to dash to minions and don't stand close to one of your minions that's about to die or she will get a free leap onto you while getting her Q reset which means she can use it when you E away, Once you get frozen mallet that should help a lot but honestly just try to take value trades and play careful and watch your minions, you can also q the minion if you predict she is going to jump to it.
This is kind of a tough matchup because of how safe jarvan is and since he has the ability to either all in you at any time or just get away from you, if he all ins you then you can just E away atleast until he gets ult but it get's tricky once he has ult and you have to play more safe, One thing that's nice about this matchup is that his ult can actually help you since you can use your R in mega to stun people against his wall, I've seen many times jarvan trap his own teamates and then you just jump in and wreck them.
Pretty easy matchup in lane you can just kite him and he has no sustain so your poke is huge in this matchup, hit as many Q's and autos as you can on him, if he ever jumps on you simply jump away and keep kiting him. Late game might be rough if he splits because it's hard to answer a jax splitpush with a ton of items but if you zoned and pressured him enough in lane you should be ok.
Very hard matchup in my expierence since you're both ranged but he just feels stronger to me and if he ever hits and E-Q then you just lose the trade hard, try to just farm up in this one and don't let him snowball, you should be stronger then him in teamfights if he is not massively fed somehow.
Fairly easy matchup in lane since you just do more damage then him unless you get hit by his Q more then you hit your Q, only thing that is scary about kennen is that he is a monster in teamfights with his ult.
Very easy matchup you should be able to get a kill or two in lane or be able to pressure him hard, since he starts out with so much HP your W does so much to him and he doesn't really do a ton of damage unless he gets all of his autos off which is hard for him to do against gnar, just poke the crap out of him basically.
Another favored matchup for you atleast in lane just because your W and poking abilites are so good against tanks and champions that can't get to you, the only thing Maokai can do to get onto you is W which then you can just E away and keep on kiting him.
You can punish him very hard and zone him off a lot of his stacks, nasus is a pretty easy lane for most champions because he is focused on csing with his Q so just deny him as much as possible, your w procs will add up a lot.
Pantheon can be hard but the main tip I can give you in this matchup is to start dorans shield! it's going to help so much with his Q poke you may even be able to win trades, the problem is a lot of pantheons take ignite so this matchup is most likely going to be pretty hard if you ever make a mistake, but it should be survivable if you play well and maybe even in your favor once you get an item or two.
Pretty hard matchup since he has two dashes, you can still manage to kite him and poke him but he has sustain and a way to get onto you and stun you on top of having a lot of damage, I would play this matchup carefully and try to take value trades.
Most rumbles aren't very good so you should be able to pressure him, although if he does get a lead somehow this lane is going to be a nightmare since your auto range is about his flamethrower range, just keep poking him though and kiting with Q and you should win since rumble is pretty weak early on.
This matchup is so hard for the tryn, you can kite him out so hard and he really can't do anything about him, just poke him down and kite him if he ever tries to get on you or even cs a minion. bramble vest rush can also be good in this matchup if he is super agressive.
This match up is pretty annoying but you should be able to win it, I've always found it difficult to actually kill swain but he is weak early and you can jump out of his Q and W so you shouldn't really die either.
Easy matchup since singed is so weak early and most of them just try to farm up you can also kite him so hard and your w procs will do a lot since he hp stacks, once you get your frozen mallet he really can't even go near you.
Poppy is really hard to kill because she is so tanky but she shouldn't really kill you either unless she stuns you against the wall somehow and then W's your E, other then that just farm up and try to deny her cs, you might be able to get a kill or pressure her out of lane if she gets greedy for some cs.
Easy matchup since he gets max HP from his W and basicaly stacks HP as well so your W will always do a ton of damage, not only that but you can dodge his Q with your E since it is a decent channel. If the Sion is smart he can be kind of hard to kill but you should always have pressure in this lane and it should be fairly easy.
Anivia can give you terrain to toss people into with her wall.
Jarvan's ultimate also creates terrain to help land your ultimate, this ones really nice since it's a circle making it very easy to fling people inside of it into the terrain.
Azir's ultimate creates a wall that counts as terrain for you to ult people into.
Cass W grounds the enemy and can be really nice since you know they won't be able to get away or jump over walls.
If she lands a big shockwave you can jump in and follow up with a big ultimate.
His pillar counts as terrain to help land your ultimate although it is kind of skinny so it can be hard to hit.

If you find playing top lane becoming boring to play or stagnant, then I think you should try giving gnar a shot. His play style is pretty interesting, since he is basically two champions in one. He has both a melee form, and a ranged form, which can make playing him fun and interesting, but also makes for quite a big learning curve. One of his best qualities in my opinion is that, unlike other ranged top laners, he has a very dominant laning phase, but doesn't fall off at all late game.
If you also like playing tank characters then you should also take a look at Gnar. He's a tank that does quite a bit of damage, and has loads of CC. I would recommend playing Gnar mostly if you like winning top lane though, as his laning phase is really strong and safe, while also scaling pretty well, as long as you can hit some good ults later on in the game that is.
