Kassadin
Awful matchup and without jungle help you will lose as he scales harder and his MR passive and burst makes things uncomfortable for u after 6. Kassadin is weak while you are weak so difficult to punish him early cos of his anti mage MR passive. Way to play after 6 is on the edge of your Q range. Q him first then Dot and farm. Ask for ganks pre 6 when kassadin is also weak.
Champion Build Guide
Malzahar is a great champion for beginners, his kit which makes it easy to farm, a silence on his Q ability and one of the best jungler lane gank Crowd Control ultimates in the game.
His downside he is very weak and mana heavy in the early game until u farm 1300g for a Lost Chapter. However, with 2 items and mid to late game he will excel.
Positioning is very important and knowing when to use your ulti is the difference between a good Malzahar and a feeder.
Also Quicksilver Sash is a real pain and usually skilled players will build it early. You need to learn how to bait it out or poke them down so that u can still secure a kill, even if they use the QSS to get out of the suppression part of your Ultimate.
Understanding the importance of Silencing multiple enemies in a Team fight with the Q ability and which targets you need to focus your ultimate on will separate a good from a bad Malzahar.
Bad positioning or mistiming when to use your ultimate will often mean a 1 way ticket to the grey screen...
FOR INFO - Cleanse RUNE is useless vs Malz Ulti. Laugh at the enemy mid laner who takes it and gets confused when you ulti them and it doesnt work :D
Your single goal pre level 6 is simply to farm to 1300g for a Lost Chapter.
"Ahh, but Malz gets mana back so why do you say his mana sucks early...??" is the common question..
Example... at level 3 his mana is 415. His E DoT, W Pets and Q damage and refresh DoT combo costs 210 mana!! Thats just over half his mana for 1 combo.
Malzahar's DoT refunds 2% of Mana If it kills the target. At level 3 farming minions thats 8 mana back per minion killed. Now, that's fine if you are farming the wave in lane. But if there is a early scuttle crab fight and you have to help fight over it, then all your mana will be gone.
You do not want to trade early, Ideally you want to farm the wave with the DoT and let it bounce onto the enemy for some damage and to proc Manaflow band and Presence of Mind Runes.
I usually tell my jungler to ignore me early game as I have no kill potential unless the enemy laner is stupid enough to trade in the minion wave and chase me with DoT and my pets chasing him.
If I am versus strong early game assassins who do not use mana such as Zed, Yasuo, Yone, Katarina, Akali, then I will usually back early and grab a Tear of the Goddess to help get through the early mana issues.
Otherwise, depending on my Health, and how easy it is to farm in lane, I will back at 1000g for Sapphire Crystal, Dark Seal and Boots, or 1100g for Sapphire Crystal, Amplifying Tome and Boots or 1300g for Lost Chapter.
I like to buy boots early usually as one of Malzahar's weaknesses is his lack of mobility. However, vs gap closer / dash champions, I go for damage as I know I cannot outrun them anyway.
Once you get Lost Chapter and then 1st item Mythic Liandry's Torment, your Void Swarm pets will farm easily and mana stops being an issue.
I generally like to buy Lost Chapter for 1300g then rush Sorcerer's Shoes which allows me to push the wave and then roam and gank the side lanes and help my team early.
This is one of the reasons that although Malzahar's spell abilities are easy to use, decision making is the most vital part of being a good Malzahar.
This will change depending on your lane opponent.
For Example, if you are against a Twisted Fate or a Talon who will want to roam and you cannot match their mobility. You can win lane by clear communication pinging them missing. You can also create pressure by hard pushing the lane and taking the first tower.
The enemy laner needs to decide whether to roam and try and make kills or stop you from destroying the Mid Lane Towers.
Similarly, If you see that the enemy Top or Bot lane is perma pushing, you can clear your wave easily and with the early tier 2 boots roam and make a gank play. The enemy mid laner then needs to decide whether to match your roam and lose a lot of farm or stay and get the farm while you make pressure in another lane.
Of course, if your side lanes are also pushing and there is no room to gank, then you just keep farming and look to secure Drakes or Rift Herald objectives instead with your jungler..
This is part of overall game decision making.
However, A Cannon minion will take 7 shots from the Tower.. This means if you use Q and spawn max stacks of pet Voidlings AFTER the Cannon Minion gets tower aggro, they will survive the full duration of between 8 to 10 Seconds (depending on ability level) and do a LOAD of damage to the tower.
If you are against a champion like Twisted Fate or Talon who wants to perma roam then you can also take an Attack Speed rune which will help you melt towers even faster.
Voidlings can also be used defensively to block attacks or hooks. They can block Thresh, Blitzcrank, Nautilus hooks or Any attack that hits the "first target".They can block Ahri charms for example.
Combined with Rylai's Crystal Scepter, you can also use pets when you are being chased and they will proc the slow effect on the chasers, to allow u more room to get away..
You now have options open to you depending on how the game is playing out.
You have great split push and kill potential. You can roam and gank side lanes or help push them to get priority over lanes for Drakes, Rift Herald or Baron.
In team fights you can lock down or kill most Squishies. You can peel your ADC if the enemy team has burst champs and you need to Ulti for them to keep teammates alive.
With the 2 DoT items in Liandry's Torment and Demonic Embrace, your Malefic Visions DoT will be doing A LOT of damage now.
Also Rylais works very well with Malz's kit as The slow for 1 sec is procced for EVERY tick of his DoT... This means 5 seconds of slows.. And that is if the DoT is NOT refreshed by your Q Call of the Void attack.
In Team fights you want to be trying to hit as many of the enemy team as possible with your Call of the Void ability. Mid to late game this is a SILENCE for between 1.5 to 2 Seconds, depending on number of points in it. This is a VERY POWERFUL tool that can hold the key to team fights.
Also, your Ulti Nether Grasp is made of 2 parts. The channeled "tether" or "Beam" part which can last for 2.5 seconds and does damage every 0.25 secs.
Even if Quicksilver Sash is used to remove the Suppression, this part of the spell will still channel doing damage to the enemy.
The 2nd part of the ulti is the Null Zone circle or "puddle". This lasts for 5 secs doing damage to ALL enemies in it ticking every 0.5 Seconds.
ALSO.. Your Call of the Void ability AND your Nether Grasp ultimate ability REFRESH the duration of the E DoT Malefic Visions.. This DoT lasts for 4 seconds and combined with the damage from Liandry's Torment and Demonic Embrace is where Malz get a HUGE amount of damage from.
So in a team fight you will be silencing their team, doing A LOT of DOT damage, Refreshing those DoTs for MORE DAMAGE, your Rylai's Crystal Scepter will be proccing slows for days And you can choose to offensively lock down and kill an enemy carry with your ultimate, OR use the ulti defensively to peel and save your teammates from being burst down.
He is not a very mobile champion so once you decide you are going to Ulti you are locked in place for 2.5 seconds while you channel it.
This means you will become the focus for the enemy team very quickly..
ALSO you need to be aware of any skills and abilities in the enemy comp that can silence or interrupt u or knock u back.
If you don't then when u ulti they will just use those abilities to cancel the channel and waste your ulti. This is why u need to make sure your positioning is good and also be aware of what abilities the enemy comp has which can cancel you out.

Other things to be aware of are..
Bard Ulti - Many Bards on your own team will mess you up by ulting your target when you start channelling, thus wasting your ulti
Kindred Ulti - Dont waste ur ulti unless you want to lockdown a champ To prevent their damage to your team, or, start it right at the end when Kindred's ulti will wear off.
Taric Ulti. Dont waste it on immune people, back off and use at the end when it wears off.
Also be aware that the following champs have abilities to remove your ultimate..
Gangplank - His Remove Scurvy cleanses the Ultimate
Alistar - His ultimate removes all CC including your suppression.
Olaf - His Ulti removes all CC including your suppression.
Rengar - His Empowered Battle Roar cleanses all CC including your ulti. Important to keep an eye on the colour of his ferocity bar.
