Hey my names is IPodPulse and i'm here to introduce my newest guide on Master Yi. Now by looking at the cheat sheet you are probably like WHAT IS THIS SH*T. Why is there a Blade of the Ruined King?, Trinity Force? what is going on here. This build is something that I have been using for awhile now as Yi, It focuses on attack speed and critical strikes while being able to deal massive damage, with this build you will be able to finish off any enemy adc or damage dealer with ease and your Alpha Strike will be back so fast you will be going everywhere!. So instead of down voting on how the cheat sheet looks I ask you to try out the build and tell me what you think. Down voting because of an item or 1 thing you didn't like is truly outrageous! I think that you will find this build really good.

Greater Mark of Attack Damage

These are your mark options they are all great on Master Yi so I will tell you how good they are on Yi

Attack Damage: IMO the best marks of Yi gives great early damage output which makes farming and harassing super easy, and killing enemies will be much easier. I take these most of the times

Attack Speed: Helps you with early DPS, I find these not the best for Yi but they can be useful if you are up against someone who has a slow base attack speed.

Armor Pen: A great option for Yi, It is similar to marks of attack damage but it decreases the enemies armor so your attacks can deal more damage. These marks with Last Whisper or Youmuu's Ghostblade will make you destroy tanks.


Greater Seal of Armor

These are the best runes to take for Master Yi since you will most likely be facing an AD champion. These marks will boost your defense allowing you to withstand a couple hits. You should always have these runes, even if you vs'ing an AP champ because you will be out of laning phase eventually and having these seals will help you a lot more than you think.


Greater Glyph of Magic Resist

Greater Glyph of Scaling Magic Resist

You now get a choice between scaling magic resist and regular magic resist. You will be needing these no matter what so you will be needing to choose.

Scaling Magic Resist: These are good if you are going against a team with 2 or less AP champs, this way you can let your magic resist level along with you and not have to worry.

Magic Resist: Now these are runes are also good you can get these no matter how many AP champs they have but if the enemy team has more then 3 AP champs then GET THIS. You will need the early protection because either you are laning against a AP champ or they have an AP jungler.

Now for the best part about the runes section, the quints!. We have 3 options for quints.

Attack Damage Quints: Very helpful especially if you have attack damage marks, this will help you deal maximum damage from the start. I often choose these quints as they are very helpful.

Armor Pen Quints: Are you up against a tank or the enemy team is tanky? GET THESE as they will help you destroy them easily, these quints are very useful when up against a tank top laner or when you are having team fights, check these out if you can.

Life steal Quints: My personal favourite quints because of how much they help in lane sustain. I get these just because when I get my Blade of the Ruined King I will have tons of sustain so whenever the enemy harasses me I have no problem gaining my health back, Try these out when you can, you will love them.


We start off with 21 points in offence. We start with Fury and Deadliness to increase your attack speed and attack damage. Then we add points to Weapon Expertise and Havoc since they will increase our damage even more with armor pen and increased damage. After that we add points to Brute Force and Lethality this will increase our regular damage and critical strike damage, best part is the bonus is doubled for melee champs. Frenzy is for the attack speed when we critically strike and Sunder is for even more armor penetration. We finish with Executioner so we can deal more damage to enemies with less then 50% health.

There is not much to say about the defensive masteries. We take points in Durability and Veteran's Scars for the health and points in Hardiness and Resistance for the armor and magic resist it gives.

Skills and Skill Sequence

Every 4th consecutive autoattack, Master Yi strikes twice. The second attack uses an attack damage modifier of 50%, but applies on-hit effects fully and can critically strike.
Double Strike's counter resets if Master Yi has not dealt or received damage in the last 4 seconds.

ACTIVE Master Yi becomes untargetable and leaps to strike up to 4 enemies, dealing physical damage to each and dealing additional damage to minions and monsters.
Each bounce will target the nearest enemy that has not yet been damaged. Master Yi re-appears at the initial target's location after the effect ends.

Alpha Strike can critically strike, dealing additional physical damage equal to 60% AD. Basic attacks lower the cooldown of Alpha Strike by 1 second.

PHYSICAL DAMAGE: 25 / 60 / 95 / 130 / 165 (+ 100% AD)
ADDITIONAL DAMAGE TO MINIONS & MONSTERS: 75 / 100 / 125 / 150 / 175

ACTIVE: Master Yi channels for up to 4 seconds, restoring health each second. This healing is increased by 1% for every 1% of his missing health.
While channeling, Master Yi reduces incoming damage. This damage reduction is halved against turrets.

BASE HEALING PER SECOND: 30 / 50 / 70 / 90 / 110 (+ 30% AP)
MAXIMUM HEALING PER SECOND: 60 / 100 / 140 / 180 / 220 (+ 60% AP)
BASE TOTAL HEAL: 120 / 200 / 280 / 360 / 440 (+ 120% AP)
DAMAGE REDUCTION: 50 / 55 / 60 / 65 / 70%

PASSIVE: Master Yi gains 10% of his total AD as bonus attack damage.
ACTIVE: Autoattacks deal bonus true damage for 5 seconds. Afterwards, the passive bonus is lost until Wuju Style is off cooldown.
BONUS TRUE DAMAGE: 10 / 15 / 20 / 25 / 30 (+10 / 12.5 / 15 / 17.5 / 20% AD)

PASSIVE: Champion kills and assists reduce the remaining cooldown of Master Yi's other abilities by 70%.
ACTIVE: For 10 seconds, Master Yi gains increased movement speed and attack speed, and becomes immune to movement speed slows. While active, champion kills and assists extend the duration of Highlander by 4 seconds.
MOVEMENT SPEED: 25 / 35 / 45%
ATTACK SPEED: 30 / 55 / 80%

Your first item and a great one as well, this item has become really popular during season 3. This item gives good attack damage, speed and lifesteal making sustain in lane a breeze. You want to get this item always! it will help you tons in lane.

The second item to the build, this item is well known among Yi users because how well it works with him, it gives attack speed and critical strike chance. The thing everyone loves about this item is the passive it provides, creating an electric charge that will deal 100 magic damage to 4 targets when it has reached max stacks.

An amazing item on Yi since it gives him all the stats that he needs, attack damage and speed, critical strike chance, health and mana. This item is really good especially with the passive it provides that whenever you use an ability your next basic attack will deal 200% of your base attack damage.

This is what is going to make the enemy fear you, this item will mess them up, it gives you 70 attack damage and 25% critical strike chance. The best part about this item is the 50% more critical strike damage it gives you making this item on Yi LEGENDARY!. You always want to get this item every game as it will help you by a lot.

One of the armor pen items, This item gives you cooldown reduction, critical strike chance and attack damage with a passive that provides 20 armor pen. This item is very good on Yi, the active it provides it great for destroying teams as you will be dealing tons of damage and land more hits. Try this one out when you can

The other armor pen item, this item has grown onto me a bit, it gives 40 attack damage and 35% armor pen. even though it isn't like ghost blade it still is an amazing item, it is quite cheap and the damage you do with it is much better than ghost blade. Try this one out as well.

You dieing a lot or you don't want to die? then this is the item for you! Gives great armor and magic resist but you don't care about that do you? YOU care about the passive which makes you cheat death. This is a good item that you want to get if you are a killing spree Eg. 13-0 or you die a lot Eg. 13-11. Nonetheless it is a great item

Do you like Cleanse? do you want to be able to use cleanse every 90 seconds and get damage as a bonus? Then I present to you Mercurial Scimitar. This item is more used against teams with high CC, or if everyone focuses all their skill shots at you. This item will allow you to wipe off all that CC and allow you to destroy their team once again!

Early game


Early game is fairly simple we get out starting items of Faerie Charm, sight ward and Health Potion and head to lane, help jungle leash if he is starting a blue or red(depends on what side you are on). When you get to lane you want to start farming, either Alpha Strike the minions or AA them. you want to try to get as much CS as you can. Why you ask? simple 15 CS= 1 champion kill, so you want to farm.


Harassing with Yi is really easy, all you need to do is Alpha Strike minions close to the enemy, since alpha strike attacks the 4 nearest enemies of your target your enemy is most likely to be hit. What is really helpful is that with your Faerie Charm you will be spam Alpha Strike all you want.


Warding is very important and you always want to ward when you can. so I added this video on how to ward properly


Next thing you want to do is lane safely, the picture below shows you where you want to be at when laning. The yellow zone can be dangerous if you are too far in and have no wards. The red zone is where you should start to worry, you are pushing too far and the enemy top can easily call their jungler, only push to the red zone if you see their jungler at a different lane Eg. Bot and/or have the river warded. The green one is your safest area but this most likely means that you are getting pushed. The best thing to do is wait until your jungler comes top and fight the enemy. While you're waiting farm the minions and harass them when they think you are going for minions.

Mid Game

Now that we hit mid game laning phase is most likely over so you can do a couple things here. You can either split push lanes so you can grant plentiful gold to your team and reach the nexus faster. Or you can go to other lanes and help them out, lets say mid lane is having troubles then you get over there and help your mid lane. This way your jungler can help bot and mid will be stronger so both lanes can get their towers faster. So we have the Split push way and the Assistance way.

Split Push way

So you want to go the ways of the split push well then all you need is a Blade of the Ruined King a Statikk Shiv and either an Infinity Edge or Trinity Force. You want these items so you can destroy turrets fast and be able to run out of their before the enemy sends their team after you. Now lets say that the tower has 500 health and you see 1 enemy running towards you what do you do? Well in this case you would destroy their tower and depending on the enemy you either kill them or run, If it is a squishy enemy that has a couple kills, KILL HIM/HER. But if you see a tank our a major fed champ that you know can destroy you with ease RUN. You want to be able to get towers and either get another tower or leave.

The Assistance way

Don't feel like split pushing? no worries you can be the friendly badass assassin that wipes out the enemy lane with ease. Your main goal here is to feed your teammate and get the tower. It is fine to get 1 kill or 2 but don't steal every kill. I have a word for people who have all the kills on the team while their teammates have few to little kills. I call those people a Darius. The reason why is because people would cry about how OP Darius is but they don't realize that the champ with 17 kills and 2 deaths has teammates that have 2 kills and 4 deaths. Since Darius didn't share the kills with him team and decided to take them all for himself he messed up the experience for his team. So what does this mean? Well it is simple If you take all the kills the enemy team wont focus you first but your teammates. Since your role of the assassin is to wipe out the enemy adc or damage dealer you need teammates to be able to deal damage to the enemies. You cannot 1v5 an entire team you need people to peel their health away so you can come in and kill. So when you are following the assistance way you need to let your teammates have kills otherwise all hell comes loose.

Late game

Welcome to late game where the only things that happen are team fights, baron taking, dragon stealing and more! But in this section I will be talking about team fights and your role in team fights.


So to start this off I will explain your role in teamfights you are the


Your job is to pop in a team fight kill the damage dealers like adc or apc and then get the hell out of there. There are somethings you need to know about Yi first.
1. He is not an initiator so don't run in there thinking that you got this because you will die instantly.
3. You will be focused so try to hide behind your tank this way skillshots will not get you
4. You always want to Alpha Strike the damage dealer on the enemy team. The reason why is because when you alpha strike you appear at your original target. If you alpha strike the tank you are going to have a bad time.

Alright so a team fight started what is the first thing you do? go after the ADC or APC or whatever their strongest damage dealer is. You always want to go for them because they are extremely squishy just like you but because of your Highlander you will be able to do more to them then they are going to be able to do to you.

Now there are 2 outcomes when there is a team fight
1. You aced the team
2. then enemy aced your team

If you aced their team then good job go to their towers and get their inhibitors or win the game if you can!

Now if you got aced then your team did something wrong, and when I mean team I don't mean everyone but you I mean your ENTIRE team did something wrong. Discuss with your team and ask them who should we focus and assign targets for each of your teammates and try again. When you can win a team fight then go push towers or get baron. Do what you can to win!
