Hello Mobafire, my name is IPodPulse and I welcome you to my Tryndamere guide. Tryndamere is an AD fighter that fuels on rage. His move set revolves on critical chance and attack damage. His abilties are very unique varying with each ability. He is able to deal massive amounts of damage and is a great dueler, making him amazing at split pushing.

Anyways I hope you do enjoy the guide, if you have any sort of comments or feedback on the guide, please don't hesitate to say. I am open to any sort of criticism and I would be happy to talk about it.

Pros and Cons

Pros

+ No mana issues
+ Great Duelist
+ Split pushing machine
+ Deals great amounts of damage
+ Critical chance works extremely well with him
+ An ability that slows and reduces attack damage
+ Losing health only makes him stronger!
+ Flash like ability
+ Doesn't die for 5 seconds
Tryndamere has some really great pros. It's what makes him an ideal top lane champion. His kit allows him to control top lane with ease. He has a build in heal with his Bloodlust, he can slow with his Mocking Shout, and he can catch up or run away from enemies with his Spinning Slash. The one thing that really makes Tryndamere fun to play is his ultimate, Undying Rage. His ability to prevent death is great when dueling the enemy champion. There is no greater feeling when playing Tryndamere than dueling an opponent and killing him off when you have Undying Rage active.

Cons

- Long cooldowns
- Early CC will make your experience very difficult
- Difficult champion to master
- Blind and Thornmail is your bane
- Vulnerable to burst damage
- Item dependent
- Not the best early game
Like every champion in this game Tryndamere also has his downsides. One of the big problems with Tryndamere is his high cooldowns, even though Tryndamere relies on his autoattacks most of the time, there will be times where you want to use an ability only to find it on cooldown. Another big downside with Tryndamere is how vulnerable he is to CC. This is why champions like Jax counter Tryndamere. Blind is going to be a pain for you, since you rely on your auto attacks, also Thornmail will be a problem because of the damage you receive when you attack.

Spells

My recommended first summoner spell, it helps with early game and Tryndamere's level 2 all in. The speed boost is very helpful when it comes to catching up to enemies or escaping them.
My second recommendation for Tryndamere. A great spell and one you should use against enemies who have some sort of way to heal themselves. This spell is great for dueling, securing the kill on a low health enemy and destroying the enemies source of healing themselves, i'm looking at you Dr. Mundo
Really good spell of Tryndamere especially against teams that have CC like snares and roots. Tryndamere only has one escaping ability, his Spinning Slash. But the cooldown is very high at low levels and you don't have much critical chance to lower it in each attack. As I said earlier Flash is a really god choice against teams with snares and roots because you can flash to and away from them helping you out either way.
A great spell for Tryndamere. It provides a nice slow and attack speed debuff that makes dueling and chasing enemies really easy. If you are not a fan of Exhaust I do recommend trying it out for one game, I have a feeling you will grow to like it.
Good for CC issues, if against a team with hard CC you can get this or you can
just buy Mercurial Scimitar which would help you a lot more since it only has a 90 second cooldown
You plan to split push all game? then get this spell. It is very useful against lanes that you may struggle in and have to rely on just farming. It helps a lot whenever your team is distracting the enemy so you can split push a lane without them them being able to reach you.

Runes and Masteries

OFFENSE TREE

Tier 1 // Double-Edged Sword , and Fury are our first pick because of the increased damage and attack speed. We will deal more damage to the enemy which will be great for Tryndamere early game.

Tier 2 // Brute Force is our next choice for the increased attack damage, this should help us with early game trades and farming.

Tier 3 // Martial Mastery and Executioner are our choices for tier 3. Our Ad will increase by 4 and we will deal 5% more damage to enemies below 50%. This give sus great trading and dueling potential.

Tier 4 // Dangerous Game and Warlord help Tryndamere a lot. Dangerous Game helps whenever we kill someone. The 5% health gain is great for when you are killing someone while using Undying Rage. This will ensure that you will have leftover health which should help you get out of the area alive. The Warlord is great for Tryndamere since he is item dependent. Any sort of increase of attack damage is great for Tryndamere.

Tier 5 // Frenzy and Devastating Strikes are great on Tryndamere because of the increased attack speed with each critical strike and the armor penetration.

Tier 6 // We end our mastery tree with Havoc for the 3% increased damage.

DEFENSE TREE

Tier 1 // Block and Recovery are essential for Tryndamere, especially early game where Tryndamere is weakest.

Tier 2 // Unyielding and Veteran's Scars and great masteries for Tryndamere. The early defense and increased health makes laning a bit easier.

Tier 3 // We put our final point in Juggernaut for the overall increased health.

These are the recommended rune for Tryndamere. We start off with 9 Greater Mark of Attack Speed for the early lane dominance and help when farming. Season 4 has been the start of a tank meta and with attack speed runes we are able to gain fury fast so we can trade much better against tanky champions early game.

We then get 9 Greater Seal of Armor for the increases survivabilty. Combine these runes with Doran's Shield and you shouldn't have to worry about early damage, but you should always take precaution.

After seals we get 9 Greater Glyph of Magic Resist. Most likely when going top you will be going against an AD champion. So you should not have to worry about magic damage. But there are AD tops with magic damage abilities so some early magic resist can be very useful. If you are going against an AP top Greater Glyph of Magic Resist are recommended so you can increase your survival in game.

Our final runes we get are 1 Greater Quintessence of Attack Damage for the amount of attack damage it provides. They are helpful for farming and trading with the enemy. The other runes we use are 2 Greater Quintessence of Attack Speed. ever since the new rune changes attack speed quints have gotten very popular. So we want to take advantage of this. 2 of these quints gives us 9% attack speed, increasing our fury gain and dps.

Skills

Tryndamere gains 5 Fury for striking a unit or 10 Fury for a critical strike, and 10 extra Fury for killing a unit. When out of combat for 8 seconds, Tryndamere loses 5 fury every second.

Each point of Fury grants +.35% Critical Chance.

My Description

Passive: Tryndamere thirsts for blood, gaining 5 / 10 / 15 / 20 / 25 Attack Damage plus 0.15 / 0.2 / 0.25 / 0.3 / 0.35 per 1% Health missing.

Active: Tryndamere consumes his Fury, restoring 30 / 40 / 50 / 60 / 70 Health (+30 (+1.2 per Fury consumed)% of Ability Power), plus 0.5 / 0.95 / 1.4 / 1.85 / 2.3 Health per Fury consumed.

My Description

Decreases surrounding champions' physical damage by 20 / 35 / 50 / 65 / 80, and enemies with their backs turned also have their movement speed slowed by 30 / 37.5 / 45 / 52.5 / 60%. Lasts 4 seconds.

My Description

Active: Tryndamere spins through his enemies, dealing 70 / 100 / 130 / 160 / 190 (+100% of ability power) (+1.2 per bonus attack damage) physical damage to enemies in his path. Spinning Slash's cooldown is reduced by 1 second whenever Tryndamere critically strikes a minion. It is reduced by 2 seconds when Tryndamere critically strikes a champion.

My Description

Tryndamere becomes completely immune to death for 5 seconds, refusing to be reduced below 1 Health and instantly gaining 50 / 75 / 100 Fury.

Items

One of your options for boots, these increase Tryndamere's attack speed and provide some pretty good movement speed. These are the boots you should be getting most of the time.

Your other option for boots. These are probably the best boots in the entire game. They grant magic resist, tenacity, and provide movement speed. I get these boots anytime im against a team with lots of CC. This will help you a lot.

Your first item you should be trying to get. It provides all the stats Tryndamere needs and a passive that helps with wave clear.

We take this item for the early life steal. Usually at this point in the game your opponent is starting to get stronger and he is starting to hurt. With a Vampiric Scepter you can take some damage and heal up by farming the minions.

Our first core is Blade of the Ruined King a item that has boomed in popularity over the course of S3. The item provides some great stats to Tryndamere but the most important part about this item is the passive it provides. For every AA you hit it will deal 5% of the targets current health in physical damage. This helps a lot early game against tanky tops. Making this item and ideal pick against champions with lots of health.

A great item for a lot of AD champions and especially Tryndamere It gives critical chance and 70 AD but the best part about this item is the passive. Tryndamere already does massive damage when he critically strikes but with this item your strikes will hit even harder. You always want to get this item at least every game.

This item will make you slice tanks and other enemies like the are warm butter. The 35% armor penetration it provides is very useful when dealing with enemies that can survive your attacks, plus it gives you more attack damage so you can hit even harder. When you combine this with Infinity Edge don't be surprised if you can finish off enemies in less than 3 hits.

Offensive Last Item

These are my recommendations for an offensive final item for Tryndamere. Zephyr is a pretty good final item and a popular pick. It gives tenacity, attack damage, cooldown reduction, movement speed, and attack speed. Phantom Dancer is great if you want more attack speed, critical chance, movement speed or even all 3. The only problem is that you don't receive any sort of damage increase from it.

Guardian Angel is self explanatory. It is an item that prevents death while providing you with awesome stats. This is an item you should try to get late game, you never know what can happen and you coming back to life can change a game. Banshee's Veil is next on our list for the health, magic resist and the passive it provides. Let's admit, Tryndamere is weak to CC, with this item he shouldn't have to worry about being locked on by the enemy and can go back to his barbarian ways! Maw of Malmortius is very helpful with Tryndamere, its main purpose is when you are against teams with lots of magic damage. But the passive it provides is very similar to Bloodlust but weaker. Mercurial Scimitar is a good item on Tryndamere because of the Cleanse active it provides and the magic resist. The reason why Mercurial Scimitar is a viable pick is because of the stats and the active it provides. Tryndamere is very weak to cc, with Mercurial Scimitar we are granted the ability to remove the CC and are given attack damage and magic resist. This is a great item against teams with high levels of AP, since most AP casters have lots of CC.
Defensive Last Item

Life steal swap outs

These are the 3 item we upgrade our Vampiric Scepter into. Our first item is Ravenous Hydra. This is a great item for wave clear ad team fighting. As you attack it sends out waves of damage to nearby enemies. Note: this deals up to 60% of your current attack damage to all enemies around you, so building AD helps with this a lot. Our final item is the one and only Bloodthirster. It is the item with the highest attack damage (aside from a fully stacked Sword of the Occult) and provides a good amount of life steal. Your life steal and AD increase with every minion you kill, so you best start farming.

Laning

Farming and harassing

Laning with Tryndamere is fairly easy. All you have to do when laning is farm till level 6 and slowly harass the enemy. What you do is whenever both you and your enemy are going in for a minion you just hit him and back off. This will lower their health so that you can eventually kill them. Use either Exhaust or Ghost to help you secure the kill. If they are fighting back use Exhaust as this will slow their attack speed and movement speed. If they are at low health and trying to run away from you, either use Spinning Slash or Ghost or Flash.

Zones

Next thing you want to do is lane safely, the picture below shows you where you want to be at when laning. The yellow zone can be dangerous if you are too far in and have no wards. The red zone is where you should start to worry, you are pushing too far and the enemy top can easily call their jungler, only push to the red zone if you see their jungler at a different lane Eg. Bot and/or have the river warded. The green one is your safest area but this most likely means that you are getting pushed. The best thing to do is wait until your jungler comes top and fight the enemy. While your waiting farm the minions and harass them when they think you are going for minions.

Warding

Warding is very important when laning, warding top is very important since it is the lane that is usually ganked the most.
I found this good video about warding top and where to place wards. It also talks about the pros and cons about each ward placement.

Counters and handling them

It is completely normal for you to lose top against your counter, their job is to make top lane difficult for you. So instead of raging out and getting mad ask for help! It is OK to ask for help you can't win every top lane, so cooperate with your team and tell them that you need help.

Don't just sit Top

Being active in LoL is very important, if you are winning top and have gotten help from your team return the favor, gank other lanes or place wards in the enemy jungle. You want to do all you can to help improve the lanes of others since they have went out of their way to improve yours.

Crit Canceling

Crit canceling is when you can determine if your champion is going to critical strike. With Tryndamere, this is extremely easy. First get some critical chance and attack some minions. Now right before you attack a minion walk away. If you were to critically strike that minion Tryndamere will perform his critical strike animation. If you attack that exact minion that you performed the critical strike animation on you will critical strike it for sure.

Here is a video for those still wondering.
