Threats & Synergies
Reccomend buying tier 1 boots on the first back. Use your e to slwoly poke him down, but dont risk the damage to get an auto attack out. Sol is very squishy, so with [[lost chapter]] you have a decent chance to take him out with a Q-E-R-E combo. His ability to roam is tough, domt try to match it. Push your lane with [[lucent singularity]] to force him to lose minion waves.
Its vital that you rush a [[morellonomicon]]. Grievous wounds will reduce his sustain substantially. Wittle him down slowly, but dont take too much aggro. If swain tries to dive, he doesnt have a burst to take you down, so snare him under tower and go all out. They key is not to take too much damage from his Q.
Why is he playing middlesticks? Burst him out with the full combo, and snare him when he is using drain. The silence can get annoying, but as long as you dont chase into brush, you'll win lane.
The blind will negate your passive from popping. Keep your distance, amd go for small trades. Reccomend death bushing him, as he will probably roam his jungle and plant shrooms.
The key here is to watch your mana consumption and try not to use abilities to push waves. Twisted fate has low wave clear, so saving your mana is vital, since he can sustain mana. Use q to stop his teleport on ult. Dont try to chase, as yellow card has a low cooldown.
Karthus can be very annoying to play against early game. Lux's low base MR means you are going to take a lot of damage by lay waste. Pre-6, farm under tower amd at a distance. At 6, try to pick him off with your combo. You should kill him even with just a lost chapter.
Stun with tibbers will kill you instantly, watch her stun, and don't chase.
out sustains with health, and can shield your burst. Chances are, you will not burst her out, so play the lane slow, and look for oppurtunities to trade. Only attempt a full burst if she is below 60%hp.
he has just as much damage on you. More of a skill match-up. Watch for pillar and hard engage if you see Brand miss his stun, or 2 back to back abilities. Long term trades are required. He burns through mana pretty fast (pun intended)
Zone her out with singularity on your minions. If she shunpos, she takes damage. Over time, you'll chip at her health where you can then burst her out completely. She can dive you without punishment late game or if shes fed. Its important that you try your best to get a kill onto Kat before she hits level 6.
get caught in his stun and you are dead. Watch for it, and trade when its on cd.
if you can dodge the bombs, you should win. Stay away from your minions, however, this will leave you vulnerable to ganks. Try to make sure satchel is on cooldown before you go for a full burst. He can use it to dodge your ultimate.
you can singularity his turrets for easy kills. He shouldnt be able to get the foothold he needs to win lane, as long as you are taking out the turrets effectivly.
she will out live you, but she will have trouble pushing you. Anivia relies on her fast push to win lane, but your waveclear is effective. Watch for her egg cooldown before you over commit.
Faster then you and more deadly. She can out-kite you, and kill you mid burst. Reccomend banshees veil as soon a possible. Avoid close range if possible. Use singularity to stack minion waves to farm under tower.
Pre-6, use your range advantage to poke out corki. Post 6, he ties you in rage with his rockets. Watch for his 4th rockets, and wait to use your bust until just after its expended. If corki has the package, do your best to farm under tower. If you see corki rotating, rotate with him, and use your ult to do some damage to hopefully scare him off long enough for the full rotation.
he will survive your burst and clear lanes fast. Don't let him close the gap. Try not to use your full combo unless his ult is on cooldown. Ekko can just as easily kill you after returning.
The only way to kill him is if he messes up trickster. He can kill you very fast. Reccomend rushing zhonyas hourglass to stop the fish from diving in. His ult cooldown is shorter then the hourglass cooldown, so its not 100% protection.
pain to bind, and magic shield to ruin your burst. Avoid trades entirely and farm what you can. Dont try to fight him 1 on 1
if you can pop his magic shield, you can kill him. Watch for minions to predict ult use. Singularity his position and wait until his spell shield is popped before detonating.
you'll take a bit of damage, but if she is binded, she dies. Full burst will take her out quickly. Focus on trades until then.
he out damages you 1v1. Get a gank to take advantage. Don't try to skirmish
An ult will kill you. Reccomend zhonyas. You will need to have a fast reaction time to use it effectivly.
watch for the laser. He can chase you down, but he is vulnerable to kiting. Dont get caught in gravity field, because his burst will kill you faster then you can react.
out damages you, out sustains you, and can dodge anything you throw at him. New Morellonomicon will help, but its still a tough lane with his sustain
bursts you in a millisecond, and can maneuver quickly. Buy seekers armguard to help, and move to an hourglass if he tries to dive. Trade pre-6 and only if his ult is on cd.
a pain to face. Recommend to bring exhaust. windwall does not block ult
can out poke, but slow will enable easy roots. Long term trades are effective. Dont let him get autos on you to replenish his mana.
plants hurt. Singularity auto to kill them. Long term trades reccomended.
Orianna can out trade you, and if she takes shield lv 1, can negate almost all of your damage and illumination damage. Try not to trade until you have an item advantage. She can negate a decent portion of your damage with command: protect.
Diana blows you up before you can react. Not a fun lane at all. Avoid crescent strike and dont try to trade
After Azir was updated, he has seen a large spike in power, and lux will begin to struggle a bit more early game. Watch for the insec, and be cautious around enemy towers. Wait for him to use his dash prior to the all in. A single burst post morellos should kill him.
Sleep is pretty overpowered, and combined with the max range Zoe Q, can seriously hurt a squishy lux. Recommend banshees veil early. Stay close to minions, and avoid the sleepy bubble. All that being said, Zoe has a large flaw against Lux,a and that's her predictability. Wait for her to use her ult, cast a Q and lock her down for the full combo.
Morgana isn't new to the mid lane, but used to be a low tier pick. Now with her massive healing, and with black shield, She is nearly immune to Lux burst. I would advise long term poking, and timing black shield carefully. You can bait out black shield by holding lucent singularity. Reminder that the cooldown is technically running while it is standing.
Ahri is an assassin now, and she can delete you early. Watch for Ahri using auto-attacks as it now allows her to lock on her W. Best tactic here is to just survive. Focus on using singularity to keep the wave under control. Utilize the slow and pop just before minions die. Use your ultimate to shove lane when ahri uses her priority to go to other lanes.
Velkoz is equally as bursty as lux. Both are matched fairly well. I reccomend playing slightly off the minion line, to avoid the inevitable W farm, but close enough to avoid the Geometry wars of his Q. Best chance to get them is right after using his knockup. You are slightly outranged on singularity here, so he has the small advantage, but mostly its a skill matchup.
Huge nerfs hit in patch 8.23, so big nose goes down a tier. Trades are just about even. The only issue is that Taliyah has more map priority. Punish her roams around the map, and keep the pressure up.
Gap closers and a huge burst potential. She has one fatal flaw, which is her squishiness. Wait for her to use shroud before you zone off with singularity. If you hit a q, she does have some healing which can possibly defend against a burst death so be wary of that.
This is a skill matchup leaning slightly in favor of Lux. Neeko does not do nearly as much damage as lux, and her lack of mobility makes it hard to land ultimates. That being said, Cloak is still insanely strong, and may cause a few mistakes with summoner spells.
Sylas has gap closers, which is one of the major counters to lux. Otherwise his damage is outscaled by yours. Always stick besides minions and do your best to roam WITH sylas
dont even need to use ultimate. This champion poses no risk ALONE. Just be weary when she is attached to someone.
If morgana is your support, playing lux is a great idea. Regardless of laning phase, mid to late game will mean the enemies aren't moving anywhere. If morgana, or Lux lands a Q, the champion can be locked down for over 6 seconds at a time. It almost guarantees a kill
Having a global ultimate that can stun can be great for lux. If ashe is able to hit a stun, Lux will get a kill off most of her matchups. But with a long cooldown, and a tight hitbox, its not free by any means.
So this is a little controversial. While blitz can certainly set up a guarenteed kill for lux, most of the time, its a blitzcrank pulling them out of harms way.
For the same reason as blitzcrank, but worse. Gragas' ultimate will make you miss at least 1 full combo, and thats at a minimum.
Probably one of the best ADCs to pair with Lux. With an equally long range and huge slow from his traps and ultimates, landing abilities is vastly improved.
That ultimate prevents Lux from dying from most of her hard counters. Problem is, will Kayle use her ult to save YOU.
5 lasers, Hell yes
A great jungler to pair with lux. They play off each other very well. Lots of CC in the form of slows, snares and stuns and the burst potential of both AP and AD is insane.
For the same reason as Morgana, Sona has a great lockdown that, if landed in a crucial moment of the game, get grant 2 kills. Heals and speedups for Lux peel is always welcome too.
Shield and speedups are cool, and again the lockdown potential is quite high, but Karma remains fairly weak as an overall AP support.
Who knew that high movement initiate lux is this fun? And... dangerous
Sometimes he will secure your combo, while other times he saves them. Welp
Zac is always going in to a group of minions on initiate. That means landing light binding with a zac is not easy.

Cheap Shot: When you use Light Binding on an enemy, this rune will allow you to deal bonus damage. Can also stack off Lucent Singularity when the slow is activated. Adds more potency to burst combo
Eyeball Collection: This will build up over time granting small values of ability power. However, feel free to swap to either rune if you prefer to have a vision preference in lane.
OR Zombie Ward/ Ghost Poro: Like I said before, if you feel vision is more important than the AP, feel free to go either of these. Personally, I think Zombie ward will do better in mid lane, and if you are roaming. If not, ghost poro in the river bushes help as well.
Ultimate Hunter: The new Ultimate Hat. Provides cooldown reduction on your ultimate. This rune is now more important on Lux since the reset mechanic on her ultimate is no longer as of 7/17/19
Presence of Mind: This is huge for Lux and all mages. Presence of mind fills the gap that was left by the removal of Morellonomicon's old passive. Restore mana on takedowns. As a sweet bonus for Lux players, the chance of 10% cooldown on your ultimate. That brings it down to 8-10secs on kills!
Coup de Grace: This is good on mages for the same reason mages exist. Long range fights, because we are squishy as hell. Most champions in game will have a higher HP than you, and this helps boost the damage. Chances are, you are already going to one shot those with less HP anyways.
- CC lockdown
- Decent Mobility
- Long Range Ultimate
- High Damage Burst
- Pick Potential
- 2 Abilities provide Vision
- Multiple Skins & Ultimate Skin
- Super Squishy
- High cooldowns on Q, W, & E
- No escapes
- Countered by nearly all assassins
- Disadvantage Vs. Tanks
- Lots of Skillshots
MAGIC DAMAGE: 70 / 115 / 160 / 205 / 250 (+ 70% AP)
SHIELD STRENGTH: 100/130/160/190/220 (+0.6 ability power)
Lux now shields herself and fires the missile at the start of cast (instead of after the 0.25 second cast time). She is still rooted for the cast time.
Lucent Singularity is activated again, the singularity detonates, dealing magic damage to all enemies in the area.
SLOW: 25 / 30 / 35 / 40 / 45%
Magic Damage: 60 / 105 / 150 / 195 / 239 (+60% AP)
R: Final Spark ACTIVE:
MAGIC DAMAGE: 300 / 400 / 500 (+ 100% AP)
Q: Light Binding:
Lucent Singularity's range is large enough to poke without punishment, gain vision of bushes, slow the enemy in an engage, or help with your escape with its slow. You can use Lucent Singularity's slow to allow you to hit Light Binding. Use this ability to clear waves quickly. Particle speed as Morgana Q, and size of Morgana E. Try to predict where they will be, not where they are.
R: Final Spark:
Dark Seal: If you are picking up a few kills and assists, consider picking up a Dark Seal. Only upgrade to a Mejai if you are at 10 stacks.
Losing Lane: Null-Magic Mantle Seeker's Armguard
Seeker's Armguard: This will help against AD assassins like talon. Don't rush into a Zhonya's Hourglass or you will have trouble sustaining mana in lane.
Ideal First Buy: Lost Chapter
Core Items: Sorcerer's Shoes Luden's Tempest Morellonomicon
Morellonomicon: The new Morellonomicon is even better than before, but at a cost. It no longer grants mana on kills or assists. In it's place, it picks up magic penetration (Which is still very strong as of 8.4)HP, and grievous wounds on ALL targets! Goodbye vlad hard counter!
Luden's Tempest: DON'T RUSH THIS ITEM! Hold onto Lost Chapter until the end of laning phase. Helps your clear the back line of minions and increases your poke drastically. A large amount of ability power. Now also provides mana!
Final Build (in addition to above items): Void Staff Rabadon's Deathcap Spellbinder
Void Staff: Magic Pen to make abilities hurt more, and a decent amount of ability power. Should be a priority buy.
Rabadon's Deathcap: This is going to give you alot of power. I would only get Rabadon's after level 16, when your ultimate gives you a large damage boost. This will allow you to one-shot anyone with 1500hp or excessively squishy.
Zhonya's Hourglass: This item is a must against some champions. I reccomend rushing this on a matchup against a fizz, or a zed, as both have ultimate with the capability of one shotting you, but has time before it does so.
Other Cool Awesome Items for Lux: Mejai's Soulstealer Lich Bane Elixir of Sorcery Banshee's Veil
Lich Bane: A fairly decent item for Lux, although there are better options. In order to pop Illumination you will have to auto attack after using an ability. This is the same functionality that Lich Bane provides. Good for an added burst, but you suffer in utility.
Elixir of Sorcery: This is the final pot you should take. Feel free to buy it as well if you are a little short on buying your final item. Don't buy any early game
Banshee's Veil: The new MR item for Mage's. Banshee's will improve the quality of life against other mages, as well as help save you from gank attempts. The new Banshee's veil brings with it the same base qualities as Abyssal Sceptre but the safe passive of the old Banshee's Veil into a perfect item for Lux.
Items to Avoid: Hextech items, Seraph's Embrace, and Hextech Items
Seraph's Embrace: Sure more mana sounds like a great idea, but the long cool downs on Lux's abilities make stacking your tear agonizingly slow. Furthermore, You should have plenty of mana sustain late game with Morellonomicon. Oh wait, they updated it to no longer refund mana on kills or assists. Hmmm, this is awkward... Anyways, Seraph's is still a no go.
On the bright side, this gets far better. After buying Luden's Tempest, you'll find you can clear the entire wave with Lucent Singularity. Whatever survives, you kill off by popping Illumination.
I find it useful to occasionally use Final Spark to clear a wave quickly if your opponent has roamed, or has gone back. With Lux's slow overall mobility, its hard to chase after them, so by clearing the wave, you force pressure onto the mid lane turret, and buy priority to then roam or go back and buy. The low cooldown of Final Spark should mean that by the time you get back into lane, the ability is off cooldown.
Lux's Poof Combo
The main combo to wipe off nearly anyone off the face of Runeterra is the following:
Q&E -> AA -> E -> R -> AA
That's just a bunch of words, so i shall explain. I recommend you start off fishing to hit your Q Light Binding. If you feel you are going to hit Light Binding, Launch Lucent Singularity immediately at your targets location, and launch an auto attack while the particle is traveling. Immediately after launching your auto attack to proc Illumination pop your e to refresh illumination and go into an ultimate. The ultimate will proc and refresh Illumination. If somehow your opponent is still alive, launch a final auto attack to deal the final Illumination blow. Your entire combo at full build can deal anywhere from 2,000-3,000 damage, depending on your opponents MR and Armor.
Can't catch me Combo
Getting chased and going to die? Use this!
E Hold & Expire -> Q
Let your E slow buy you distance. Just before he leaves the slow, detonate E and launch a Light Binding to insure your escape.
This is my Dragon/Baron/Buff
This will give you a burst big enough to challenge a smite.
E (hold)-> Q -> R
Use E to grant you vision of the buff. Depending on their kill speed, Detonate E, in time with the launching of the Q, and use your ultimate. The damage gives you just over 1k damage, and provides a challenge to securing the objective for the other team. Just the E hold alone, might scare them off.
Go Away Combo
To force someone away from the fight.
Q -> R
This combo will deal enough damage to scare them off the fight, and make their engage dirty. This combo keeps your main damage (E) available for the real fight.
If you are falling behind in lane, don't worry. Lux can farm pretty well under tower, and her q can ward off any potential divers. If you are ahead, force yourself on your opponent in lane. Lux is even a good champion to roam with. Her long range on the ultimate can execute champions who think they are safe, and with the new CDR on her ult if she gets a kill, the cooldown is well worth the attempt.
Lux isn't a great pusher, but she can clear waves. Focus on clearing waves to prevent the enemy team from sieging the tower. If a wave is pushing on another tower, the mobility on lux allows her to roam, clear the wave quickly, and get back before a fight breaks out. In addition, lux Q/E/R burst can steal dragon quite effectively. The combo deals more damage then smite, as long as her ult is level 2.
Late game, you are the target. Stay in the back line, and use the range of Lucent Singularity to poke. Continuously cast Prismatic Barrier to protect the team against poke, or possibly, help with an initiation.
Lastly, don't focus the tanks. Lux does not kill tanks, and is most effective against the ADC, Mid, and Support champions. Although the malphite may be on top of your team, and your instincts say to use your abilities on malphite, You aren't going to do much to him. Land a light binding to kite them off, but not much more. Even if you do some damage to malphite, the high ability cooldowns is not worth the damage.
Please for the love of God, don't waste Lux's talent on support. Lux was born a mage, not a mute string player.
Good luck Summoners!
