Can and will outscale you. Gets practically free poke and is strangely tanky. You NEED to kill him, but it is extremely hard to do solo. This is made even worse since you probably want to go Dshield to survive his poke. Honestly ban this guy or hope your jungler helps. Too much work to beat a guy who will just scale up anyways. If you do want to try and beat him, you need to play aggressive once you hit lvl 2-3. He has long range, but his cds are decently long. He will always put down his stun trap when you go on him, to stun you back and escape, you might want to e right after stunning depending on what abilities he has up. You need to chunk him enough to the point where he is in flash-ignite kill range. Only then will you be able to play.
Gragas
Practically impossible to poke out, trades well into you, and cancels your W with his body slam. He does a lot of damage, and you can basically never fight him on favorable terms. You can turn on him if he misses body slam for some reason, but you're not going to kill him from full. Luckily he can't kill you without poking you down with barrels, as using his body slam to engage will leave him vulnerable. Just try to shove and roam as much as you can. Make sure to E towards him, as that blocks damage from barrels behind you.
Ahri
It's stupidly easy for her to outplay you. Her dashes keep her far out of range, and she can poke you relentlessly with her Q. The worst part is that her charm cancels your W and she can get away as your empowered autos expire. If necessary, you can flash over to her after you've been charmed to empowered auto her while you still have it up. The main way to beat her is to avoid poke, and bait out/dodge her e charm. Flash over the e if necessary. However DO NOT flash while in W animation. It will cancel the stun. Always remember that she is a BURST mage, always try to trade back damage for damage, and your all in is generally stronger than hers as long as you block something. Luckily she is extremely squishy.
Akali
Easy matchup, you out poke her. Just make sure not to be hit by her empowered aa. Just disengage when she shrouds if the fight is close, and remember she's pretty worthless without it. You have to predict her ult to block it, I usually just use my shield to disengage when she shrouds. Her level 6 power spike is disgusting, and at that point I might even bring sweeper to make sure she doesn't outplay my Q crit with her shroud. (Which will most likely result in your death)
Akshan
Can be annoying, just don't get poked out too much early. All of his damage is in his swing, the autos are annoying but can't outright beat you. Make sure to save your E for his swing whenever you are in position to be swung on. You CANNOT take that damage. Even if he is swinging away, if you managed to start W'ing towards him he will be stunned and stopped.
Anivia
Pretty annoying, she does a lot of damage and we can't consistently kill her passive early on, nor tower dive her. I've had a lot of success using W immediately as they cast their stun in order to leap over it and stun them before they recast to stun you. If you manage to do that, you're golden. Besides her passive, she melts under damage.
Annie
Very annoying mu. She can outrange you at all times with her autos. Make sure to block her Q stun, as she usually combos after it. Tibbers is practically unkillable to you, so I'd just avoid her while it's up. You're playing to burst her before she can kill you, and you really need to get ahead pre 6 to do so. She can get to a point where her burst combined with Tibbers running you down is unbeatable for you. Don't let her get to that point, but it comes FAST.
Aurelion Sol
Smash his face in early on, he can do practically nothing to you unless you stand in his breath and take it. The trades you can get into him are just as free as those you can get into Yasuo and Yone. If he isn't flying, you can W him to stop his breath and he's as good as done. He will use his fly to escape though. I recommend swifties in this matchup as it allows you to engage on him all the time, and he has no real cc to stop you. This will also usually bait him to try and fly away before you use your W which allows you to W him to also stop his fly. Only in mid tier because he will somehow scale to the point where he can kill your teammates despite the fact that you still steamroll him.
Malphite
You're gonna have to play like a wuss and at that point you're not going to be much help. The fact that you, the mid, are ad rather than AP doesn't help either. If you must try, tank buster core longsword start. You need those items and fast. You can kill him earlier on, and if he builds ap. Otherwise, its a farm lane into a theoretically bad late game comp for your team.
Azir
Annoying as hell. He will poke you into oblivion. However, he is squishy as hell. Don't let him get free poke, cs with Q. If he starts hitting you, try to trade back with an empowered W. When he gets ult he can peel you off, so try to get him to waste it or kill him before then. Don't let him use his ult to push you under tower.
Cassiopeia
Hide behind your minions. Her miasma stops your W. She has a lot of easy poke and she can has consistent DPS. You need to treat her like a ranged yas/yone, get free trades and use E to get out. Luckily you can juke everything in her kit.
Corki
His W is his escape, but it has a longer cd than your W. He can poke you to death, so you need to chunk him pre 6. Make sure to ping if he roams, and prepare to dodge his missiles.
Diana
I've only fought this a few times. Block her ult, dodge her arcs. Only way she wins is if she pokes you out, or if she gets a strong trade with her ult. Be aware she will dash through you, so try not to let her dodge Qs or get behind your shield.
Draven
Painful. Empowered W melts him but his E cancels your W entirely. You need to be closer range so it's harder to react. You can engage on him level 2 if he is really pushed in, but otherwise you are going to need to play around your shield. Make sure you block his Q autos, not just a normal one.
Ekko
As long as you block something, you win. His poke is stronger level 1, but if you take W you can actually win with ignite in an all in. Ignite him before he ults, and block in his direction to block his Q.
Fiora
Rare, but happens. Easier than toplane, poke her and trade back when she goes for a vital. W from close up to avoid riposte. She can't run you down a long lane and hit all your vitals, so she isn't too bad.
Fizz
Man cannot touch the wave. He has no range, and you win up close. Only way he wins is if he gets an ult off, but you can just E towards him to block. DON'T let him jump behind you, as it will let ult damage go off. His electrocute combo is pretty telegraphed, so make sure to block it.
Galio
Strangely hard, don't let him cancel your W with his dash. His poke is deadly to Panth as you have no MR and are short range. You need to engage him then block out, or you need to block him and counter. Shielding is imperative. If he has aftershock, you NEED to play around it. Ping his roams.
Gangplank
Not too bad, you can just explode him early on, and even more so with damage. Shield his barrels by facing him, and you can even jump over a barrel by W-ing towards him as he strikes his barrel, dodging the one at his feet and the one at yours.
Heimerdinger
Kill his turrets if you can, block when he stuns you, as it blocks the turret empowered autos. Otherwise treat him like any other mage.
Illaoi
Easier since you are mid lane. Don't get grabbed. If you do, E as late as possible as you back off. Do the same if she ults. Hide behind your minions to block her e.
Irelia
Easier in mid than top. Her dash puts her behind your shield. Block her empowered autos as you back up. You need to be aggressive in this mu, you need to jump her when she has not stacks and hopefully from close enough that she doesn't use her damage reduction to soften the blow.
Jayce
Worse than top, harder to run down. However he is much more easily dodged than other mages. Just get on him and pop him. In mid, he can't run you down either.
K'Sante
Happens rarely. He can't run you down at all, and your poke and short trades are way better than his. If he gets iceborne he becomes a monster though, so beat him before then. Don't get ulted into the backrooms.
Karthus
Easy to engage on, and he is notably easier to dodge. I would save E to block his damage as you back out. You can block his ult by facing him.
Kassadin
He can't do anything. Annihilate him. Only thing he can do is teleport, but even then all he can do is run. His silence stops your shield though.
Katarina
Bully her early. They will try to play safe, do not let them. Do not let her get behind you. Save W or E for her ult. Know how her Shunpo works.
Kayle
Kill her early, save E for her ult damage. Don't let her ult your empowered W. If she does she wins.
LeBlanc
Despise this one. She gets free trades all the time. You need to engage. If she engages she wins. Block when she dashes at you.
Lucian
Don't fight him pre 3. Then you're fine. Treat him like a mage with more sustained damage.
Lux
She is annoying with how easy she can hit and root you. Block her ult. She has atrocious mana issues, so if you dodge a few times you're golden. She is stupidly easy to ult on to, once you're already behind her, she can't do anything.
Malzahar
Chuck a spear to stop his passive. Don't stand around minions dying to his burn, it will latch on to you. Don't let yourself get minion swarmed, use them to stack passive. Dodge his silence. You can block his ult, but it's more of a prediction.
Neeko
Her abilities are much easier to dodge than others. You can very easily block her ult too. She is always behind her clone. Don't stand too close to your minions, as they don't protect you in this mu. Dies like any other mage close up. DO NOT GET ROOTED AND THEN HAVE HER THROW Q ON YOU. It will burst like 3 times and chunk you out, you MUST block this.
Orianna
Not too bad, don't get auto'd too much. Just don't willingly get too close to her ball. Block her ult by facing her.
Pantheon
He who blocks the empowered W wins. PTA beats Conq early on, and if you do, conq scaling won't be enough to salvage them.
Qiyana
She can do little more than chuck her mildly ranged ability at you. Just block her ult and you are fine. You can predict her ult or even bait it by standing near a wall.
Renekton
Block his empowered W. He can't run you down mid. Don't get baited by his ult, thinking that you can kill him.
Ryze
He doesn't have the range to kill you. He has to set up his root, jump on him and he'll just root you while you stun him. Attack him while you're rooted and you win.
Seraphine
Rare mu, but she is very easy to dodge. If you dodge her cc, then just jump her. She melts.
Swain
Easy if you can dodge his e. If you can't, play safe and build bork second item. Then you kill him with ignite. You can build it first, but it would tunnel you into being only anti swain early game. Take ignite.
Sylas
He cannot e grab you if you hide in minions. Ignite him before he heals with W. Otherwise he can't do anything unless he manages to scale. If he does, you need anti heal.
Syndra
If she has hands she cannot be jumped on. Block her ult, do not get stunned by her pushing an orb into you. If she does and misses, that is your only chance to jump her. Just because she can cancel your W, it does not mean you shouldn't try, oftentimes they fail to stop you in lower elos.
Talon
Can do practically nothing to you. Just don't let him poke you with his blades, and block if he jumps towards you. Ping his roams.
Tristana
Do not get chunked early, and don't let her jump behind you. You need to jockey for early level prio. She kinda needs to cheese you with early damage and kiting to kill you, although she can be very slippery if passive.
Twisted Fate
Easy, dodge his skillshot, and jump him as he gold cards you. He can't do anything if you match his stun.
Tryndamere
Annoying as hell. You can't kill him, and he can still kill you. Use your ult to stop his tower taking, and expect him to escape you.
Varus
Why does he do so much damage. If he has hail of blades, play around it, dodge or block his max hp magic damage blast. You need to chunk him, heal by any method. and then get back to lane. Then you can flash-ignite kill him.
Veigar
He can only stop you with his cage, but he needs to cage between you and him. If you can jump over it do so. Most Veigars just cage themselves, and you can hop in. Block his W or Ult. Essentially if the cage is directly at his feet and will pop up to stun you when you're engaged on him, do not jump. If you can jump on him before the cage pops up, do so.
Vel'Koz
Dodge the geometry, block his ult. You can also block as you get knocked up, because he will probably combo you right after.
Vex
Easy to dodge, they use their cc to wave clear. Your leap fuels their passive, but they can rarely use their cc in time if the jump is what enables it. You can get knocked out of the air by her W, don't let that happen. Block whatever, but prioritize ult recast.
Vladimir
Easy to kill early, get swifties and it is even easier. Block his empowered Q or wait it out, block his E as it is easy to do so. Only bad because he will scale, and with his pool it is harder to stop him than most.
Xerath
You will be poked, but this man is made of actual glass. Ulting on him is just as easy as ulting lux. His main Q poke causes him to stop moving, so it's easy to jump on him.
Yasuo
Don't fight level 1 outside of q pokes. Can maybe fight level 2. Hard win 3 onwards. Don't let him touch the wave and he can't ult. Use your shield for free trades.
Yone
Same as Yasuo, get free trades. Block behind you to block his ult.
Zed
Hardest Assassin. He can get behind your shield easily, and he outranges you. Always trade damage for damage, if you let him get free trades you're done. As long as you don't miss Qs you win all ins.
Naafiri
Strangely hard? I don't see it much, but Naafiri's poke equals yours, if not exceeds it. Easy to block W, but they can just jump behind you. Do not stun the dogs on accident. To win you need to out poke them by dodging their Qs and hitting yours. I would not recommend engaging near their turret, because with the dogs Naafiri runs you down like a dog. Only benefit is that they don't outright destroy you unless they get really fed, so you can go for an even lane and roam rather than kill them.
Zyra
Really annoying. Block the barrage from her plants, or block her ult. Do not let her set up her plants, and try to remove the seeds. She dies quite easily if you get on her, but do not engage if she has more than one plant up. Force her to use her spells on you, rather than to wake up plants.
Zoe
Monstrously bad after the early levels. Pantheon's MR rivals that of a Soraka, and Zoe will use that fact to blow you up in 2 shots. You cannot use your shield as you fall asleep to block the star coming at your face, as the sleep last 2 seconds as opposed to your shield's 1.5. If you build Mercs, you will wake up just soon enough to maybe try and juke away, but if you have mercs and you E, you will certainly block the increased damage from being woken up. Try to get a lead on her, matchup became a little easier because she can't get a BS prowlers active and get behind you anymore. Around when she gets a few components she will chunk you for half your health with one star, so you better get a lead on her before then or make a difference elsewhere.
Hwei
Very not cool. Has shields, speedups, and pretty easy to hit cc. Gonna be very hard to catch this guy and he hurts. Make sure to block his R explosion, some of his cc has a windup so you might be able to jump on him before the cc hits you.
Darius
Pantheon works great with anyone that draws attention from him or can engage for him. Pantheon is pretty squishy, but can dish out a lot of damage. With a strong frontline, Pantheon can carry.
Not all synergies will be listed here, but essentially if the enemy's focus is on someone else, rather than you, you're golden.
Rengar
With point and click cc, Pantheon can set up ganks extremely well and get ur jg fed.

Pantheon mid is a great choice for someone who wants a strong early kill potential, and great roaming abilities. Your Empowered W makes trading extremely easy in midlane, and your E keeps you safe. With some fancy footwork, you can be a menace in the midlane, because the only thing that holds Panth back is how easy he is to cc.
Who am I?
I'm Lindroganti, a current plat player and a Pantheon Enthusiast. This champion busted me out of silver straight to gold with a 12 game win streak and then took me to plat. I love how simple the champ is, but how high the skill ceiling can be. Especially since, with our roaming ult, we can impact the game with great ease. I may not be the greatest Panth player, but I can promise to help make your experience with Pantheon mid as smooth as possible.
Guide Explanation
This guide is mainly matchups so far, as I believe that is what most people need. Eventually I might make a full guide, but there are plenty of guides that explain Pantheon's mechanics well. I will mainly only explain the things I do differently, and that I believe work. Make sure to read the notes on items, runes, and spells. Those notes explain a lot of the things I do, and how and when you should do them.
Explaining Swifties
You may have gotten confused to see Boots of Swiftness in the boots section. Allow me to explain. The main counter to Pantheon is cc, however the duration is not the issue. It's the fact that it stops your engage with W or causes you to get poked. Therefore tenacity won't really help as much. That's why I think swifties are a good pick. You can't be cc'd or poked if they can't hit you. I believe swifties are a high skill item you should take, as it gives you the potential to dodge and mitigate a whole lot more damage than any other boots choice if played well. It also helps to run down fleeing foes, and to get into range of enemies that try to space you out. Not to mention getting you to lane and helping you roam faster, as well as being cheap.
Why I Like Alacrity Over Tenacity
I think alacrity can be considered in situations where the main issue of the cc is not the duration, but the fact that it stops your engage at all. A matchup like Syndra isn’t hard because you get cc’d forever, but that you get pushed in the first place. At that point I like having alacrity to gain passive stacks faster, and have a little stronger all ins. In no way am I dissing tenacity, but I feel like I can get more consistently out of alacrity. The goal is to not get cc’d at all, as it pretty much stops you in your tracks regardless, and thrive in the situations where you aren’t being cc’d, rather than mitigate the effects by a small margin.
