Champion Build Guide

"Prefer the Good Cop or the Bad Cop?" Caitlyn S9 G

Pro's & Con's
Why should you play Caitlyn?

In my Opinion Caitlyn is one of the strongest ADCs right now on Patch 9.1!

She outranges almost every other Champion, has nice Mobility and Self-Peel and a pleasant Skill-level for Beginners.
On top of that, she synergizes well with both Tank- and Utility-Supports, depending on your Teamcombo.
She is the only Champion that can trade Autoattacks with Draven or Jhin, without being as predictable as the ones above.

If your jungler is an assassin with very high damage output, after Level 6 Caitlyn is able to clean up fights, if the jungler is a tank with a bunch of CC she has decent follow-up CC.

Abilities

Passive - HEADSHOT!

Every 6 autoattacks, Caitlyn aims precisely at the head of her target, dealing incresed damage.
Targets struck by her W or E always take headshots from doubled range without resetting the counter, autoattacks from within a bush count as 2 shots.

Q - Piltover Peacemaker

This is Caitlyns main Damage Spell, therefore I recommend to max it first.

Caitlyn is briefely rooted during the channel duration, then fires a projectile that opens at the first target hit and deals less damage to subsequent targets.

If the Target is struck by her Yordle Snap Trap or 90 Caliber Net , it takes full damage even if its not the first target hit.

W - Yordle Snap Trap

After a brief delay, a visible trap is placed at the target location.

If an enemy champion steps onto a Yordle Snap Trap he is revealed with True sight and Caitlyn gains a double-ranged Headshot against that target and full damage of her Piltover Peacemaker .

E - 90 Caliber-Net

Caitlyn fires a heavy net that slows the first enemy unit struck and knocks Caitlyn back a short distance.

After she hits a target, Caitlyn immediately readies a Headshot against that target.

Tip: Fire the net behind you if you want to get back to lane faster!

R - Ace in the Hole

Caitlyn gets rooted in place while she readies her Sniper Rifle to shoot a massive Bullet over a great distance onto a champion in sight that deals damage upon impact.

Once targeted, Caitlyn and her team gain True Sight onto the enemy champion and the target is not able to dodge the shot unless it becomes untargetable (e.g. Fizz Playful / Trickster, Xayah Featherstorm).

Although the target can not escape the shot, enemy champions can intercept the flying Bullet, taking the damage instead.

Tip: Try to cast Ace in the Hole onto a champion who is trying to escape lowlife or getting invinsible, like Twitchs Ambush or Kha Zix Void Assault .
Laning Phase
If you feel comfortable with the enemy botlane and their jungler, you can push the lane together with your supporter and make the enemy ADC loose farm under turret so your team has better control over .
Try to land Headshot on the enemy ADC if you dont loose farm.

Keep Tribush and River warded so you can't be suprise-ganked!

If you feel insecure, just lasthit the minions with your autoattacks and let the enemy minions push towards your tower and lasthit there with the assistance of your support.

Farming under Turret:
(TS = Towershots, AA = Autoattack)
  • Melee-Minion = 2 TS + 1 AA
  • Caster-Minion = 1 AA + 1 TS + 1 AA

Item-Powerspikes:
After you finish each of those items, you most likely will have the lane-pressure and can go for a kill!
Midgame
In Midgame, Caitlyn has no real Powerspike, but in the Lategame she is a really strong AD-Carry.

If you see that you can get the Botlane-Tower early, ask your Toplaner how he is doing.

He is doing well?

Keep the Bot-Turret alife and freeze the lane in the middle of the lane until you want to open the map wider for infernal drake , midlane-roams, etc.

He is struggling?

Destroy the turret and laneswap with the Toplaner.
He can easily farm now with the tower as backup and you can push toplane together with your supporter.

Keep Tribush and River warded so you can't be suprise-ganked!

In lower Elo the enemy botlane will stay bot and the enemy toplaner will not be able to handle both you and your supporter, so you can destroy the tower here as well.

Now you have pressure around Rift Herald and Drake , depending on the gameplan of your team.

If you can't contest one of those objectives right now, ward the enemy topside jungle and rotate towards Midlane-Tower.

With all T1-Towers gone, its time to
TEAMFIGHT!
Teamfight
Target-Selection

Try to always stay at the very end of your team and use constant autoattacksand abilities to deal damage.

"Front-to-back"-Teamfight:

Together with your midlaner you try to melt down the frontline while the rest of your team zones away the enemy Team.
With the enemy Frontline gone, clean up what is left of the enemy team.

Keep your 90 Caliber Net ready if the enemy team has gap-closer that will put you in danger (e.g.: Gragas Body Slam, Gnar Hop, Jax Leap Strike).

"Wombo-Combo"-Teamfights:

Those Teamfights are initiated by a strong opening (e.g.: Amumu Curse of the Sad Mummy or Kennen Slicing Maelstrom).

Try to set a Yordle Snap Trap under the best target you can reach without endangering yourself.

Ask your support to stick to you in those teamfights so he can provide you some peel, again keep your 90 Caliber Net ready as self-peel.

Good luck on the Summoner's Rift!
