Jax
He thrives on your AA Strength. Do not AA into his E and try to bait his Stun as well as possible with your Awakened E or slow him with your R and run out.
Heimerdinger
He can work his whole kit off of your Stun and deal a lot of Damage. You can peel him very well in his Tower Zones.

Champion Build Guide
The Tiger has risen!
Udyr's Wilding Claw just got buffed in 12.18. He gets a range increase on both Q Instances and needs only 20 Mana for the Skill through all levels.
After Phoenix was rly strong in the past Weeks after Udyr's Rework, now it is time for some more Dueling focused Setups!
Tiger Udyr is a great Duelist from the Juggernaut Class. He is a Freight Train like Garen or Olaf with a Movement Speed Steroid, compared to more stationary Raid Bosses like Nasus or Urgot.
The general Idea behind this Guide:
Like Phoenix, Tiger Udyr can also be build in a lot of different Ways.
One of his absolute Strengths is his great Sheen Usage, since he can rotate 4 low Cooldown Abilities all the time. For that, getting CDR and also some Mana can be very beneficial.
Also a Balance between being able to be fast and stick to targets, dealing good dps and having Tankiness / Sustain has to be found. Think Olaf, but rather than throwing an Axe, you are the Axe, that runs in with your AoE Slow, tanking Damage with W, stunning a target, putting out DPS with Q, then sustaining with Lifesteal, Vamp, Conqueror etc.
With my own research through the available Content, my own Knowledge on Items and the Champion and a lot of theorycrafting and Testing, I found out 3 Build Paths that are viable and cover these areas well.
I will refer to my Phoenix Udyr Guide for basic concepts were applicable.
A bit of a problem when you start out with Udyr is, that like with Kayn, he has 2 distinct forms and the common resources and statistic sites do not distinguish very well between them.
I hope my two guides can give new players a firm grasp of how to build Udyr's 2 Forms well and in a stable manner and understand the synergies of Runes and Items.
My Builds are following 2 Philosophies in this Guide - Dueling=D and Takedown=TD:
- Dueling means you want Sustain and DPS Scaling for longer Fights and Skirmishes against Melee Enemies.
- Takedown means you want to approach mobile or ranged Priority Targets quickly, be tanky and resistant to CC as much as possible and inflict high Impact Damage on Contact with the Target as well as generate Damage Opportunities for your Teammates so these Targets are taken out quickly - before they can escape or retaliate.
I have 3 Mythic Items, that I will build upon:
- Divine Sunderer for Dueling Builds against Immobile / Melee Teams. I rely on Conqueror, PTA and Lethal Tempo there for Damage Scaling and Sustain. Also Manamune will work great with you Q Damage, Conqueror and give you Mana for extended Trades.
- Trinity Force with Sterak's, Ravenous Hydra and PTA / Lethal Tempo. You gain good Sticking Power to more mobile Targets, amazing Scaling Damage - being enhanced by PTA even more - all funneling into Hydra's Omnivamp.
- Stridebreaker with Dead Man's Plate will give you a bit less damage since no Sheen is involved, but this build is laid out to reach mobile Targets and apply your stun and slows so you or your teammates can catch up and finish them
PTA and Lethal Tempo are the Keystones here. Lethal Tempo since you will get very fast Auto Attacks, that will apply Stridebreakers Movement Speed Buff, as well as Increase you AA Range greatly to being able to apply these Autos from farther away.

Rune Philosophy
All possible Runes, that make sense atm are listed below.
As explained in the Intro, I categorize the Rune Pages into the following Categories:
- Dueling (D)
- Takedown (TD)
Primary Dueling Runes:
Conqueror: Conqueror Triumph Legend: Alacrity Last Stand |
PTA: Press the Attack Triumph Legend: Alacrity Last Stand |
Secondary Dueling Runes:
Domination Tree:
Cheap Shot
Zombie Ward Eyeball Collection
Sorcery Tree:
Absolute Focus
Waterwalking Gathering Storm
Resolve Tree:
Shield Bash
Conditioning
Overgrowth Revitalize Unflinching
Primary Takedown Runes:
PTA: Press the Attack Triumph Legend: Alacrity Coup de Grace |
Lethal Tempo: Lethal Tempo Triumph Legend: Tenacity Coup de Grace |
- Legend: Tenacity + Last Stand when heavily kited, so you would reach the target with HP lost already.
Secondary Takedown Runes:
Domination Tree:
Cheap Shot
Zombie Ward Eyeball Collection
Treasure Hunter Relentless Hunter
Sorcery Tree:
Nimbus Cloak
Celerity
Waterwalking Gathering Storm
Resolve Tree:
Conditioning
Unflinching
Inspiration Tree:
Magical Footwear
-
Cosmic Insight Approach Velocity
General Runes Advise:
- Conqueror for Scaling Damage and Sustain - good for extended Trading / Fights against Melee Bruisers / Tanks.
- Press the Attack for Burst on Squishy Targets or Shred on Tanks. The Damage Increase Synergizes with Last Stand / Coup de Grace and feeds into Omnivamp.
- Lethal Tempo for Faster Auto Attacks to apply on Hit Damage (Bork etc.) and Item Passive Stacks (Stridebreaker, Black Cleaver, Triforce etc.) faster.
Fully stacked you gain an AA Range Incre***e for farther Reach onto Targets - it has overall great Q Synergy for faster Attacks and Farther Reach on Targets that try to get away from you.
- Legend: Alacrity increased DPS for Dueling / Takedown Rune Pages with PTA
- Legend: Tenacity / Unflinching for Anti CC / Anti Kite
- Nimbus Cloak / Celerity / Waterwalking / Relentless Hunter for enhanced Mobility
- Revitalize for Regen with Lifesteal, Omnivamp, Conqueror, W Ability, Sterak's, Stoneplate etc
- Taste of Blood - for Dueling Setups with Scaling AD / AP, Synergizes with Revitalize / Spirit Visage
- Conditioning for Resistance Scaling when building a lot of Tank Items
- Overgrowth for HP Scaling on Titanic Hydra
- Coup de Grace against Squishy Teams.
- Last Stand for Damage increase when getting low - good for Dueling with Lifesteal / Conqueror and Mobility Pages to deal increased Damage after taking Damage while approaching a Target.
- Cheap Shot - Damage Enhancement - works with E, R, Stridebreaker, Dead Man's Plate, Rhanduins Omen. Feeds into Conqueror, but not into Lifesteal. Gets Enhanced by Coup de Grace / Last Stand.
- Zombie Ward / Eyeball Collection - for fast AD / AP Scaling when ahead, feeds into CQ, Omnivamp, Blade of the ruined King LS. Indirectly Supports PTA, Last Stand, Coup de Grace.
- Triumph / Treasure Hunter - increased Income on Takedown Focus
- Gathering Storm for Late Game raw Damage Scaling for Dueling / Takedown Builds
- Early Aggression Runes:
- Bone Plating will give you Damage Mitigation for early invades against Enemy Junglers with strong lvl 3 Combos / All ins.
In General it has Value against Burst Combos (rather Nieche for Jungle - if your Jungle Matchup demands it or if you want to Prio an enemy Aatrox / Riven Lane for example) - Shield Bash with its adaptive Damage will give you more Lifesteal from your W Stance AA's and from Items against Champions, the extra Damage will also feed into CQ.
Good increase in Trading Power and Resistances while shielded against any Damage Source (Drake / Baron / Herald etc.!). It is overall a good Choice into Melee Matchups for Dueling.
Item Philosophy
These are the main Items for the above mentiond Build Paths: Dueling and Takedown.
Divine Sunderer
Trinity Force
Trinity Force is my own favorite atm. It Scales up your AS, AD and Movement Speed, making you a threatening Hybrid Damage Force against Squishier Targets. They can't Itemize easily against you regarding defensive Stats. Udyr is one of the best Sheen Proc Users in the Game, giving him even more DPS with his Stance Dance. Also the new W gives Lifesteal on its Autos, so the Sheen Proc will give you great Sustain. Even more so with Shield Bash or other Damage Enhancement Runes. Trinity Force has great Synergy with Sterak's Gage since Triforce gives you Base-AD, from which Sterak's pulls its Bonus-AD Increse! |
Stridebreaker
Titanic Hydra
Ravenous Hydra
Manamune
Blade of the ruined King
Dead Man's Plate
Great Item for Mobility. Synergizes well with Chemtank for even more Impact Damage. You can use them together or use the Slows after each other. The Impact Damage Scales with Base AD, so you can't enhance it directly other than with levels and Triforce, but you work in Runes like Shield Bash or Cheap Shot or general Auto Attack Enhancements like Sheen. Try to dodge CC with its MS to not lose Momentum Stacks. Remember it is not a Dueling Item - you will give up benefits like Thornmail or Randuin's Omen give you for the Mobility. |
Force of Nature
Another great Item for Mobility. Gives you MS when getting hit by Magic Damage or CC. Each instance stacks up the Passive. At 6 Stacks Magic Damage also gets reduced by 25% on you. Wit's End is kind of the Alternative here. It gives you better Dueling and good Sticking Power, but your Approach to the Target will be slower. It is also a Consideration when stacking HP is bad - against Vayne / Gnar etc. Will give you the most MR per Item in Game against a single Target! |
Thornmail
Very good Item for Dueling against strong Sustain Champions which Auto-Attack you. Especially while you are on approach to a ranged Auto-Attacker you will return damage, triggering effects like Conqueror and applying Grievous Wounds. Even when not stacking Armor for the Reflect Damage it is still great on Udyr, because with his Stun he always makes use of the full 40% Grievous Wounds Effect for 3 sec. Against Enemies, that can avoid auto-attacking you ( Aatrox), Chempunk Chainsword can be a good Alternative. |
Randuin's Omen
Very good Item for Dueling against Hypercarries / Crit Users. You reduce their Damage on you through the Passive as well as the Active and it gives you another Slow on Top for more Sticking Power. |
Spirit Visage
Another nice Item Choice when Dueling and Building Lifesteal / Vamp or using your W in General. It will boost any Shields and Healing Sources you get. It will not make you more mobile though. |
Frozen Heart
Great Teamfight Choice against several Enemy Autoattackers. It is cheap, gives you Mana Sustain and great Tank Stats plus an AS Debuff around you. Also Synergizes very well with Fimbulwinter. |
Gargoyle Stoneplate
Boots
Mercury Treads
These are your Anti CC Option. You will not need them when taking Sunfire Aegis + 1 of the Tenacity Runes Legend: Tenacity or Unflinching.
They are good with Triforce to rly stick to targets.
Boots of Swiftness
Plated Steelcaps
Ionian Boots of Lucidity
They are your Utility Option. You want to buy them as soon as possible to get your Smite CD down for faster Smite Usage - you will get your transformed Smite faster. They will also reduce your other Summoner's CD. They work together with Cosmic Insight.
Also, they give you Ability Haste on your Stance CDs (see Chapter Abilities and Mechanics) but will not affect the Cooldown of your Passive!
They are also an Option against Casters like Aatrox or Sylas, where you want to go for Duels with quick Stance Rotations and don't need the AA Damage Reduction of Plated Steelcaps that much.
General Matchup Tips:

Build Philosophy
As explained in the Intro Chapter, I categorize the Builds into the Categories:
- Dueling
- Takedown
Chapters
General Hints:
Starting Items:
- Take Red Smite against Close Range Burst and Melee Damage Dealers. Take Blue Smite against Ranged or for Nimbus Cloak Synergy.
- If you go for mobile Takedown Builds with E max over W, take Flash, especially if the Enemy can scale Walls well. If you go for more immobile Trading Builds against Melee Comps, take Ghost.
Early Items:
- normally you want to get Brown Boots and Sheen for Trading / Tiamat for Farming first off, then go into the other Items of your Build. With Ionian's you normally want to finish them first to profit from their Early Game CDR Power.
- You can try skipping Hydra Items and just rely on your R Point for Farming. I would advise against it though.
Do not take Magical Footwear in your Rune Setup if you plan on going Ionian's early on! Also, if you ever go Predator - dont take the Rune either!
Boots:
- Boots in all Builds are situational. With active Items and for more Stance Dance Rotations you want to get Ionian's if you do not need additional Defense / Mobility from the other Options.
- Be aware, that Boots of Swiftness and Unflinching decrease the Amount of Slow you receive, while Tenacity reduces the Duration of Slows.
Anti Heal:
- get Bramble + Steelcaps against Enemies that Autoattack you a lot, get Executioner's against Enemies that avoid you / use Abilities / you want to all in.
Be aware, that the Thornmail Return Damage feeds into Omnivamp!
CC / Kite:
- get Quicksilver against Suppression Ults (Morde, WW...) or high CC amounts with your Takedown Builds.
- Your Options against high Mobility / Kiting are:
- Items: Triforce, Stridebreaker, Force of Nature, Dead Man's Plate, Randuin's Omen
- Boots: Mercury's Treads, Boots of Swiftness
- Runes:
- Anti Slow / CC: Legend: Tenacity, Unflinching
- Speed Buff: Nimbus Cloak, Fleet Footwork, Celerity, Waterwalking
- Sustain: Revitallize - Spells: Blue Smite, Ghost
- You can always go full Tank after your Mythic Item. In General you want to avoid dying as much as possible when ahead, while going for some more damage for Comeback Plays when behind.
- Force of Nature / Randuin's Omen / Frozen Heart will give you the most Damage Reduction on Tiger Udyr.
- Divine Sunderer has good Synergy with mixed Damage like Muramana, BorK, Wit's End, giving you more Sustain from Conqueror and Damage Increase in General. If you get PTA instead of Conqueror, Consider BorK for Dueling Sustain. If you decide to go for a Sunderer Takedown Build, consider buying a lot of Mobility Items after your Mythic, because Sunderer will not give you anything Mobility vise.
- Trinity Force Scales up your Base-AD, working great in Synergy with Sterak's, PTA and CQ for extended Duels. This will also feed a lot of AD into Lifesteal.
- You want to consider building Blade of the Ruined King and maybe also Sterak's Gage for Phage Passives against Enemies you go toe to toe with.
- in General you want to pair HP based Builds with Conqueror and Titanic Hydra, while you go PTA and Ravenous Hydra in more AD / AS based Builds. Lethal Tempo works well with Blade of the Ruined King through applying its on-hit Damage at a high rate.
- Look for Synergies for Mobility / Anti Kite in Mobility oriented Builds and Sustain / De-Buff / Damage Synergies in Dueling Builds.
Dueling Tiger Builds
These are high DPS / High Sustain Builds for Melee Fighting
They are mostly used with Conqueror as Keystone as well as PTA for Tank Shredding as situational Keystone. You will not have the greatest Moblitiy and Sticking Power though.
- in General you want to pair HP based Builds with Conqueror and Titanic Hydra, while you go PTA and Ravenous Hydra in more AD / AS based Builds.
- with these Builds and W-max, Ghost is valuable for chasing down fleeing Champions after you win a trade and in general to compensate for your lower MS
Divine Sunderer Builds
Characteristics:- Good Damage Scaling with Sustain on Sunderer Passive / Conqueror
- You will lack some Mobility / Sticking Power with Sunderer Builds. You can go for Mobility oriented Builds with this Mythic, but I would mostly advise it against immobile Melee Team Comps.
- Overgrowth will give you HP Scaling for Titanic Hydra and your W in longer Games
- About Conditioning:
- Conditioning is strong if you build a lot of Tank Items.
The main case in which I would take it, is against HP-Shred Teams ( Gnar, Brand, Vayne etc.). Then Building HP might hurt you, and you rather go for items like Frozen Heart, Wit's End, Gargoyle Stoneplate. In that case, Conditioning will get you additional value out of your Build. Unflinching might also be a good anit-kite measure in these cases. Do not take Overgrowth against such Teams!

Legend: Tenacity - Against strong CC
Coup de Grace - against Squishy Melee Teams
Secondary Runes:
Shield Bash - for Dueling Power against heavy Melee Trading
Conditioning - for Resistance Scaling
Overgrowth - Max. HP Scaling (Titanic) against late game comps
Revitalize - for any Shield, Heal, Lifesteal (not for Regen / Vamp!)
Unflinching - Alternative to Legend: Tenacity
Taste of Blood - Scaling HP Sustain, enhanced by Spirit Visage / AD Scaling.
Zombie Ward / Eyeball Collection - More Damage with faster scaling than
Overgrowth + Titanic Hydra
Ingenious Hunter - Faster Tear Stacking, CDR for Sheen Procs (Nieche)
Celerity Waterwalking - For early River Dominance / Scuttle Fights and Roaming Power
Gathering Storm - Late Game Damage Scaling
Triforce Builds
Characteristics:- Good Damage Scaling with Sterak's and Sustain through Conqueror / Ravenous Hydra
- Better Mobility than Sunderer Builds. You can theoretically go for Mobility Items after Triforce (see Takedown Builds Section) and still have good Synergy.
- You can go PTA or Conqueror for Sustained Fights with Sustain.
Items
Build 1A - CQ / PTA / LT:
Trinity Force
Plated Steelcaps
Blade of the Ruined King

Runes
Same as in the Sunderer Section above.
Takedown Tiger Builds
These builds focus on Target Takedowns and Sticking Power (see Mechanics Section).
- Your R and E will help you stick to and approach Targets, PTA and AD Scaling will scale your Impact Damage very nicely.
If you go for high Mobility Builds with E max, consider Flash as Summoner for even more Mobility Options if the Enemy has Dashes / Wall Scaling.Triforce Builds
Characteristics:- Good Damage Scaling with PTA
- Good Mobility / Sticking Power. You can theoretically go for Mobility Items after Triforce and still have good Synergy.
Items

Primary Runes
PTA / LT:
Press the Attack / Lethal Tempo
Triumph
Legend: Alacrity
Coup de Grace
Inside Tree Variations:
Legend: Tenacity + Last Stand - Against strong CC and good Enemy Kiting Potential, to reach the Target with increased Damage, when getting lower HP.
Secondary Runes:
Conditioning - for Resistance Scaling
Unflinching - Alternative to Legend: Tenacity
Cheap Shot - Non AD dependant Damage Increase, enhanced by PTA
Sudden Impact - Additional Impact Damage
Relentless Hunter - Roaming Power
Waterwalking - For early River Dominance / Scuttle Fights and Roaming Power
Nimbus Cloak, Celerity - Mobility Increase and Sticking Power
Magical Footwear, Approach Velocity - - Mobility Increase and Sticking Power
Do not take Magical Footwear into Ionian Boots!
Cosmic Insight - Active Item Uptime, Summoner Spell Uptime, good Synergy with Stridebreaker, Stoneplate, Sterak's, Randuin's. Even Sheed Items Profit from it.
Works with Ionian Boots of Lucidity.
Stridebreaker Builds
Characteristics:- Good Utility. You can apply several Slows and your Stun in Sequence.
Do not use all Slows at the same time, otherwise only the strongest one will be applied and the others will go to waste!!! - Good Mobility / Sticking Power. You can theoretically go for Mobility Items after Triforce and still have good Synergy.
- Lethal Tempo will give you great reach with your Q AA Range increase to keep your Stridebreaker Passive Stacks on your Enemies and Chase them down.
For the same reason of Reach, Titanic Hydra is the Option here most of the time.
If you want to go Black Cleaver as above mentioned for the Triforce Builds, you can take Ravenous Hydra for the Synergy with your R AoE- it will proc Ravenous AoE on all Targets inside it. - For Boots, mainly Swifties, Mercury's and Ionian's are an option.
- You can go for the Ability Sequence Q-E-W here, but I would still advise for 1 Point in R and a Hydra Item to be safe farming wise.
Items
Build 1 - LT / PTA:
Stridebreaker
Boots of Swiftness
Dead Man's Plate
Thornmail
Force of Nature
Frozen Heart
Item Alternatives
See Cheat Sheet Items Section above
Primary Runes
LT / PTA:
Lethal Tempo / Press the Attack
Triumph
Legend: Tenacity
Last Stand
Inside Tree Variations:
Legend: Alacrity + Coup de Grace against squishy Teams with little CC / Kiting Power.
Secondary Runes:
Conditioning - for Resistance Scaling
Unflinching - Alternative to Legend: Tenacity
Cheap Shot - Non AD dependant Damage Increase, enhanced by PTA, great with all your Slows
Relentless Hunter - Roaming Power
Waterwalking + Absolute Focus - For early River Dominance / Scuttle Fights and Roaming Power as well as Faster Clears
Nimbus Cloak, Celerity - Mobility Increase and Sticking Power
Magical Footwear, Approach Velocity - Mobility Increase and Sticking Power
Do not take Magical Footwear into Ionian Boots!
Cosmic Insight - Active Item Uptime, Summoner Spell Uptime, good Synergy with Stridebreaker, Stoneplate, Sterak's, Randuin's. Even Sheed Items Profit from it.
Works with Ionian Boots of Lucidity.
The Korean "Phase Rush Tiger"
Recently there are Korean high Elo Replays showing up like this one HERE with the following Build Setup:
Runes:
Phase Rush
Nimbus Cloak
Celerity
Waterwalking
Items:
Stridebreaker, Dead Man's Plate, Black Cleaver etc.
They are often seen vs. Bel'Veth to outmanouver her Mobility and CC. With the Whip you can apply Black Cleaver Stacks decently well.
If you take 1 Point in R, try to use R and Stridebreaker in Sequence and not at the same time - only one Slow applies at a time!- Good Utility. You can apply several Slows and your Stun in Sequence.

Udyr's Jungle Clear
Your Main Clear Options on Tiger Udyr are:
- Full Clear into Scuttle, Ability Order Q-R-W-E - same as with Phoenix
- 3 Camp Clear (Red-Blue-Gromp) into Gank / Invade / both Scuttles,
Ability Order Q-W-E. You can then go for Stridebreaker and leave out R. I would advise to take a Point in R though. - Split Clear: Clearing one Jungle Quadrant (e.g. Red - Krugs - Raptors), recalling, buying Long Sword, going for aggressive Scuttle Fights. - Track the Enemy Jungler's Pathing for this! Ability Order Q-W-E.
For learning these Clears, Basics of Jungle Clearing etc., have a look at the Jungle Section of my Phoenix Udyr Guide first.
