Why you should play Gangplank?

Hi guys, I made this Gangplank guide because I really enjoy playing this champion a lot and I thought why not make a guide. Gangplank has always been a interesting champion compared to the other champions mostly because of his barrels. He does have struggles at the start when it comes to the laning phase mostly because its hard to them with a barrel combo with out them destroying the barrel before you do. But when it does come too the late game it begins to get good because you do a ton of damage and you scale well as champ especially in season 8.
Gangplank does require a lot of practice when it comes to setting up the barrels, but when you get the hang of it you'll love playing him soo much, not only that but he is great in split pushing and has his own built in qss which is awesome.

Laninig as Gangplank

Most match ups Gangplank is countered, so usually I farm up in lane try to get as much CS as possible and silver serpents so that I can upgrade my Cannon Barrage and try to play it safe. If its a easy lane like Kayle usually poke her and then till your lv 6 then go all in but if your up against a LeBlanc I play it really safe since shes able to dodge my Powder Keg and constantly poke you so I usually stay near tower and make sure your Remove Scurvy is up when she goes in to root you. As soon as you reach lv13 and have at least to core items you should be good for fights and do enough damage.

Cannon Barrage Upgrades

This is probably the first upgrade you want to get with your silver serpents because it does a ton of damage in the middle of the ult and allows you to get more damage of it, and is great for squishy's who have low mobility like Kog'Maw and Jhin.

This upgrade makes your ult shoot out more cannon waves and allows you to do more damage in a short amount of time and slows the enemies for longer. Get this upgrade second.

Spells

Always have Flash because Gangplank is not that good at getting him self out of fights.

Teleport is great since your always backing to get your items or upgrade your ult it can help you get back to the area you need and since your one of the most crucial champs in the game your team will need you alot.

This is only when your up against Darius Garen or Kled since they can change the way a fight happens in your lane and can cause you to lose. Not only that they are very tanky in the early game and deal a lot of damage and your probably gonna wanna take it against Cho'Gath too.

Take this only in mid, this can help you against a Fizz or a LeBlanc since they both deal a insane amount of damage and because they can get them self out of fights too.

Items

Trinity Force will always be the first item you take/rush because it's great for Gangplank, because it allows him to constantly Parrrley and Remove Scurvy. Its also great because you get attack speed out of it and also damage to which Gangplank mostly works off. Not only that but you get a bit tankier too. Gangplank also relies on a lot of CDR and that's why you mostly see gangplank player's build Youmuu's Ghostblade and Ionian Boots of Lucidity because they both give CDR.

Youmuu's Ghostblade really helps you out when it comes to engaging in a fight or getting your self out of a fight, it also grants you lethality which comes in handy when fighting tanks like Maokai and Sion. You would want to take this as your second item.

Infinity Edge is probably the best item for Gangplank because of it's damage and crit, this really allows you to do a insane amount of damage to squishys and can really change the way the fight is happening. Landing Powder Keg with your Parrrley can give you a crit chance with Infinity Edge.

Essence Reaver this item is kinda like infinity edge but has different builds too it, you may want to but this when your in the late game because of its price. With Essence Reaver you restore 3% of your mana when you crit which helps you out a lot in fights because you can keep using your abilities without having to back.

Phantom Dancer I really enjoy using this item for Gangplank because you get a higher chance of critting and you get a lot of attack speed. It helps a lot when attacking towers because you can destroy tower's a lot more quicker in a short amount of time. It also helps you in 1v1s and clearing minion waves as well.[/color]

I don't use Sterak's Gage that much because I enjoy doing more damage than being tanky, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't use it. When fighting Sterak's Gage gives you a shield when you take 400-1800 in less than 5 seconds and grants increased size. This helps a lot since your a melee champ and might need to get right up to the enemy and auto attack them, you can also buy this to last longer in fights.

Mortal Reminder can be used for champs like Garen and Ornn who are constantly healing them self. This is because of Executioner's Calling which disables there healing for 3 seconds and allowing you and your team to do more damage. This item is used if they have 2 or more tanks on there team other wise it's useless.

Maw of Malmortius is if your up against a few AP champs your probably gonna need this otherwise they'll pop you which is not fun. If there is 1 AP champ your up against dont bother to get this item unless there really fed. It is good if you do because you get your own little shield that will protect you from the AP burst in team fights.

Dead Man's Plate is great for when your up against champions with a lot of AD and are able to take you down easy. I would take this only if your really struggling in the game and if your constantly dying to the enemy ADC. If you do take Dead Man's Plate it's great for getting around the map faster as it gives you movement speed.

Spirit Visage helps you out a lot when your up against a lot of AP champs, especially against a Veigar as he can Event Horizon you and stun you, causing you to take a lot of damage from his Baleful Strike and Dark Matter.

Team Work

When playing Gangplank it's best for you to be with your team so your are ready to fight because if your not there and there fighting your team might just all die, this is because Gangplank is one of the best scaling champs in the game making him very important when it comes to fights because of the ton of damage he can do to people. If your not there as they are fighting use your Cannon Barrage if it's up to at least help out the team a little bit and slow down the enemy.

Don't try to get caught out also try to stay alive for as long as possible especially as Gangplank as you must be there all the time for your team, its best when you to start fighting when you are level 13 because that's when your Powder Keg are ready and load up faster for you to Parrrley and make out good damage with it. Try to get your Powder Keg to hit as many champs as possible so you deal the most amount of damage to them so that yous have a higher chance of winning in a fight.

Farming

It's pretty easy to farm as Gangplank once you get Trinity Force because you can kill the 3 caster minions and then wipe out the rest. Use your Powder Keg to clear waves faster so you can get as much cs in a short amount of time. Make sure you Parrrley your Powder Keg to do the most damage.
