Champion Build Guide
Supports in Mid?!
Yes, supports in midlane aren't as bad as you would expect. In fact, some of these picks are quite strong right now. Off-meta picks like this keep the game fresh and potentially gives your team an advantage in champ select by allowing your botlane to pick a more favourable matchup. More importantly, they are super fun if you enjoy this roaming supportive-carry playstyle. I managed to reach Emerald in solo queue this season with these picks and playstyle. It is even better if you duo queue with a jungler or a supp if you do decide to give it a try as having a jungler that is on the same page as you is rare in solo queue.
The main champs I played were Pyke, Nautilus, Rakan and Karma tho I played Pyke and Nautilus in most of my games.
Some other champs that I played were Soraka, Janna, Zilean, Zyra, Morgana, Brand, Thresh and Lulu. I found these champs were too supportive and reliant on your team so I didn't pick them as often. However, if you have a duo, these champs are also quite strong and effective in midlane. They can take advantage of the higher gold income and scale faster.

Why Pyke
Pyke is my most-played champ. You can pick him against most of the mages or assassins. He is really good along aside early ganking junglers and roaming supports. Avoid picking him into the champions listed in the threats section if you are just getting started. Also, avoid picking him if you are the only/main engage on your team(you are the midlaner, not supp). Also avoid picking him if your team is full AD as armour hard counters most of your dmg.
He is a very strong early-game champ so he can play aggressively against most midlaners. Take advantage of this early-game strength and roam whenever possible as most midlaners can't match you. Even if they do, your team should easily win most 2v2, 3v3, 4v4 etc.

Why Nautilus
Nautilus is a good pick if your team lacks a main tank or engage. He can also stack armour and MR easily so he a good counter-pick into most AD/AP assassins. He is good alongside hyper-carry junglers, allowing them to scale faster. Avoid picking him if your team lacks dmg or is too tanky. He also gets poked and zoned away from the wave by most mages and usually doesn't have the dmg to solo them either. This usually doesn't matter if your jungler or supp is roaming/ganking. Unless you are experienced avoid picking him into the champs listed in the threats section.
Why Rakan
Rakan has fantastic engage and great peel for your carries(although you also do good dmg too). Building AP gives giant shields and allows you to deal good dmg at the same time. He is a good pick into most midlaners as you have good sustain and disengage tho avoid picking him into the champs listed in the threats section as you may struggle if you don't have experience playing against them. He has pretty high range for a melee champ which allows him to farm safely and harass other melee champs. He is also good with almost any type of jungler.
Why Karma
Karma has so much utility and poke which means she is always a good pick. She works particularly well with jungle champs like Hecarim, Udyr, Nunu etc. as her E helps them reach the enemy and shield them when they engage. Although she is a mage isn't as weak early-game and can roam with the jungler. She also doesn't have as many mana issues as other mages and has pretty good sustain in the laning phase. However, she does struggle a little against assassins like most other mages. Avoid the champs in the threats section if you are new.
Notes
Please feel free to comment on any questions you may have. I'll try to explain/answer to the best of my ability. Also, let me know if you want to know the setups I used for the other champs I mentioned.
Any criticism is also welcome.
