Annoying poke, huge combo damage and extremely dangerous when ahead, but also immobile and can be poked and/or bursted down relatively easily. Whoever wins lane is going to oneshot their counterpart. Both builds are fine, Rylai is better.
Thresh
Skill check. If he doesn't land a hook on you, you are fine. Putting your E underneath your ADC who just got hooked prevents Thresh from using his E. Separating enemy ADC from him with your wall will get countered with his lantern, but separating HIM from his ADC when he has no Flash might cause a desperate all-in by bringing his lane partner to him. Build does not matter.
Nautilus
Thresh matchup, but with more CC. If he lands his Q, you are in some trouble, but you can peel your ADC with W rather easily. Build does not matter.
Xerath
He outranges you, but he is VERY immobile and you will have an easy time landing W+E on him when he charges up his Q or channels his R. Both builds are fine, Rylai is slightly better.
Morgana
She in theory counters you, but im practice it is not that hard to lane against her. Dodging Q wins you this matchup, and you can play around her E by simply continously dealing magic damage, waiting until she uses it, then breaking it, and then using your burst combo. Rylai build highly recommended.
Blitzcrank
Ban.
Rakan
Your E cancels his W. If you manage to preemptively use it (for instance, if he dashes to someone using his E after using his R, meaning he wants to engage) you stop him very quickly. Likewise, if he has already engaged on you, one cast of E towards his ally will get cancelled. Build Everfrost.
Pyke
Very high kill pressure, but your W breaks his Q channel if you place it quickly enough. If you do not have flash, you will most likely die. Luckily he tends to build full lethality, so he goes down easily if you catch him. Build Everfrost.
Leona
Borderline free pre-6. When she used E, you use E too. Use W to peel whoever she dashed too. Her R is the only thing causes issues. Both builds are fine.
Zyra
Annoying zoning capabilities, but as long as you dodge her E you are fine. Rylai works slightly better against her than Everfrost.
Soraka
Her Q makes her trades very good when you account for the healing she gets from it. Her E can invalidate an otherwise good opportunity to land a combo, so Rylai is a better choice against her - just kite her until she drops it, same as with Morgana matchup.
Senna
She deals little damage in lane, however she scales like crazy. You can W+E her during her Q cast time.
Both builds are fine, getting to 1st item fast is very important - you can very easily kill her if she is slowed or rooted.
Lulu
Her buffing capabilities make taking down priority targets difficult. She by herself does not pose a threat and her poke is mediocre at best. Build Everfrost.
Brand
High damage, especially with Liandry's, but not much else. Build Everfrost and just nuke him, Rylai is not bad either. He will try to full combo you, if you dodge his W you have enough time to E+W him before he can stun you.
Karma
She has better poke than you, and she prevents you from landing your burst combo easily because of FORTY PERCENT bonus MS her E gives! At the end of the day, her bullying you hard usually won't amount to a huge lead, and she become managable once you have Everfrost, but by that time your ADC probably flames you for picking Taliyah.
Alistar
As long as you do not enter his W range, he does nothing. Watch out for Flash and Hexflash. Choose a build with counters his lane partner.
Swain
Do not get pulled, playing around your passive MS makes it easy. Rylai makes it difficult for him to keep you in his R range, but Everfrost is playable too.
Yuumi
The only thing she has going for her is Q poke and R healing. Build whatever item counters her ADC, and then antiheal.
Rell
Incredibly tanky, lots of CC. Her W can get countered by your E, but W+R cannot and she will land a Q on you afterwards. Build whatever item counters her ADC.
Seraphine
She has range and decent CC, but not much else. Both builds are fine.
Nami
She outtrades your normal Q with her W. Her passive makes landing spell difficult. In order to actually trade with you or your ADC, she must close fairly close, which creates counterplay. Everfrost recommended, Rylai is okay.
Sona
You both have better laning phase, and you are more useful in later parts of the game. 1st item doesn't matter, kite with Rylai or set up combos with Everfrost.
Milio
His Q is highly annoying. his W makes his easier for ADC to attack you when you are trying to get close. His R can cleanse root from Everfrost, so build Rylai instead. His R grants tenacity and NOT slow resist - Rylai slow will still be 30%, it will only last shorter, but your Q applies it many times anyway.
Neeko
Her range isn't an issue, as long as you keep track of the amount of minions in a wave she does not pose a threat. Rylai is slighly better here.
Braum
Great at tanking your damage, has some crowd control in the form of Q and R, however he is not annoying to lane against. Build whatever is needed to deal with his ADC.
Pantheon
High kill pressure: mind his Flash + W!
Falls of in terms of damage later. Rylai is great, Everfrost is good too.
Janna
Playing around her Q requires experience, but that's about it. She cannot poke you with W. Build whatever you like.
Vel'Koz
Pain.
Massive range advantage, massive Q slow, massive damage. Build Everfrost and force plays with your R.
Shaco
Shaco players are usually predictable and with a bit of luck you can outright combo him when invisible. His R prevents you from comboing him. Rylai + Liandry's is the best bet here, he will simply dodge Everfrost with Q.
Maokai
His saplings make entering brushes (and nearby walls!), with your passive and boots equal or better than Maokai's you can outrun them (because his boots influence how fast those saplings are, for some reason?). He will not get stunned from dashing, but at least you can easily react to his R by also ulting away. Rylai build is a better idea against him.
Zilean
He kinda invalidates this pick, E makes landing anything substancial impossible, and even if you achieve that, he will R whoever is about to die because of your play. Depending on his ADC, this matchups ranges from "okay" to "just as bad as Blitzcrank". Everfrost is basically necessary.
Heimerdinger
Very similar to Zyra.
Bard
Bard does weird things... He enables lots of unfair plays (like 3 man ganks with a portal), and invalidates your ult, but you can make a huge impact by outroaming him, especially if you have an early lead. Skill check just like Thresh, just a completely different one. Build whatever is best against his ADC - you may have a lot of chances to make 2v1 picks when he is roaming
Taric
Completely free, unless his ADC has dashes - in that case, his ADC has DASHES! and you can counter them. Build whatever.
Malphite
Why would anyone pick this...
Just do not enter his Q range, and obviously respect his R all-in, but it is just rock diff. Build whatever.
Amumu
If you have perfect timing you can deny all-ins by E+W targeted at whoever he is dashing to. Otherwise it is a very punishing matchup, but pre-6 he does not have that much CC.
Everfrost highly recommended.
Ashe
[Support] Annoying poke which can turn into her effortlessly kiting you unless you have W to peel. Crossmap ults (and ults in general) must be respected at all times. Both builds are fine.
Miss Fortune
[Support] 1/5 difficulty matchups if it wasn't for her move speed she gains for existing. Her biggest selling point - Q into dying minion bouncing into you for a bazillion damage - is not available to her since she won't be taking CS - unless she actually does steal farm from her ADC. Everfrost is probably better? - her W active gives her full MS regardless of taking damage, most of Rylai slow will be mitigated.
Renata Glasc
Low poke, hook is not a big threat because of its slow movement. Her ult is easily dodgable, and you will not deal tons of damage to your ADC if you get hit by it. Everfrost works great because she will get rather close if she wants to poke, but you can opt of kiting with Rylai too.
Veigar
Just do not get stunned by his cage, your passive makes it easier for you.
Cage will also prevent you from kiting easily, so build Everfrost.
Teemo
Oracle Lens is your best friend. Rylai and kite him for days.
Twitch
[Support] He will either try to cheese you or will outroam you, so either have W and E ready at all times, or follow his roams if your midlane matchup allows it. Rylai + Liandry's and you will outcheese this cheeser.
[ADC] same things apply, besides roaming. You would want to stay with your ADC for most of the time to prevent the rat from cheesing your teammate.
Tahm Kench
Tanky, lots of sustain, and has a get-out-of-jail-free-card for his lane partner. Luckily, his engage is not the greatest. Choose a build which better deals with his ADC.
Fiddlesticks
His W locks him in place. Just set up a lot of vision and be careful. Neither build is clearly better against him. Build to counter his ADC.
Galio
He can engage on you from a far away, and he is a prime anti-magic damage tank. His R can prevent you from getting kills, but you can combo him easily as he enters. Build to counter his ADC.
Ziggs
He only pokes, and he isn't that good at it. His W dash is easily predictable - you can either force him to dash through your E or to aim your combo at wherever he is about to land. Both builds are great, Rylai is slightly better.
Poppy
Poppy is a great counterpick... just not against Taliyah - that player probably assumed someone else is going to be a support this game.
Do not hug walls near her, respect Flash/Hexflash + E combo, and just poke her. If she just charges at you, pull her with W and let the ADC do the job. Either build does the trick.
Zac
Approach this matchup the same way as against Twitch - have cooldowns ready. When he jumps place E on his path, then W after he lands. That's how you also deal with Zac JG - you do this when you know or feel that he is about to appear. Both builds are fine.
Shen
Predictable engage pattern, his W does nothing against you. He should focus your ADC, so peel him when needed. His R can turn roams and picks against you.
Vayne
She gains bonus MS for free - increased during R. If she is not ulting, you may be able to combo her after she uses Q. Q invis during R makes tracking her position hard. Do not hug walls near her, unless you want to die.
Everfrost works great - use it after she dashes. Rylai + Liandry's if you want to provide intel for your team.
Sivir
Her spellshield is a counter to your combo attempts, and may even cause her to heal from your poke. BUT it has 24s CD - you can bait it out and try again after your cooldowns are back up. You can try to cheese her by pressing W around the time 2nd stone from Q hits her - 4th stone and W will hit in a very close time window, spellshield might block Q instead. Rylai is a better choice.
Kog'Maw
High range is the only issue he himself causes. He will most likely be assisted by a Lulu or some other parasite which will constantly give him shields and MS buffs. If that's the case this matchup is way more difficult - Everfrost is better, otherwise build Rylai.
Kalista
Keep in mind 2 things: your E stuns only once, her R puts her support at their attack range - use it to predict their landing spot. MS debuffs slow down her dashes - Rylai shines in this matchup
Kai'Sa
High damage, on-demand movement speed and a long dash make her annoying to deal with. Build whatever.
Zeri
You outrange her Q, her dash is short and has a long cooldown. She gets slippery during ult, but she is not very hard to deal with. Rylai is barely better.
Nilah
If it weren't for her passive, this matchup would be free. A lot depends on support matchup here - if the being first to level 2/3/6 (like Leona) and overall level advantage (poke champs) can really mess up your plans, her existence will steal all your joy (pun intended) you could get from playing League. Generally speaking, feast-or-famine matchup for her. Get Everfrost.
Jinx
Abuse her W cast time. As long as her passive isn't active there is not much she can do besides throwing traps at you. Rylai recommended.
Tristana
Keep cooldowns for her all in, play passive after you fail to catch someone. Mind her W resets. Everfrost recommended.
Lucian
Low AA range = harass him from far away, if he dashes to get closer, respond with E+W. Both builds are fine.
Ezreal
High range poke, free flash. Stupid poke with Sheen items. He will just dodge your combo, either build Everfrost and use it to bait his E, or get Rylai to just kite him (be wary of the damage he can dish out in response) Preferably build both.
Caitlyn
High range makes trading difficult. Keep in mind there can be traps in every brush (and behind turrets!), play around her E. Rylai is better - Everfrost might not reach her consistenly.
Miss Fortune
[ADC] Bonus MS and Q poke make her very obnoxious. Abuse R channel to uno-reverse-card fights.
Xayah
She can dodge combos with R (which she can use even when rooted!), and you have to avoid her E root. Rylai recommened.
Draven
Deals crazy damage, but he literally tells you where he wants to be after 2 seconds (thats how long the axes are in flight). Aim your skillshots (and Everfrost) there.
Aphelios
Honestly, no idea what to write here. He does so many things... Severum Q gives MS, Gravitum slows and roots, but other than that, he is not really a threat? Both builds are fine.
Yasuo
ADC dependant matchup - if your lane partner doesn't deal damage early, he might become a problem after winning some fights. Your E renders a whole minion wave useless to him, Everfrost root and W+E stun can render him unable to ult during Q knockup
Ashe
[ADC] Similar things apply, but there usually won't be another damage threat present alongside her - you and your ADC can just focus her and win fights more easily than if she was a support. She won't be building much ability haste, so her ults will be less frequent.
Jhin
Traps are a pain in the butt, but you can counterattack during his W and R casts, and only crits give him move speed. Everfrost is slightly better.
His poke is annoying, but you can abuse his Q self-slow (is a similar fashion to Xerath Q). Both builds are fine.
Kai'Sa
She has exactly ZERO crowd control in her kit, so she cannot help you with landing your spells. However, Everfrost, E and W each apply a stack of plasma - so she can easily follow up with a passive proc. Her ult also allows you to follow up on your burst combo even when she isn't near you.
Ezreal
Just as Kai'sa, he has no CC - not even a slow - in his kit, but his safe laning allows you to roam easily. If you pull an enemy in front or to the side of minions which would otherwise stand between them and Ezreal, he can quickly follow up with a couple of his spells.
Ashe
Her passive makes building Rylai 1st simply not worth it - use her slows to easily land spells. Her R can set up huge damage combos. She enables you to do so much this is a rare case where you can forgo building a slowing item and rush Luden's 1st for maximum damage, or other mythic should the circumstances require it. Everfrost remains a wonderful choice.
Caitlyn
If she correctly uses her traps, you win lane. You can easily abuse enemies entering brushes with traps placed at an entrance, pulling them with W additionally gives Cait a chance to land her E on them for even more damage. If you are feeling extra cheeky, you can use your W to throw enemies into traps!
Miss Fortune
Rooting or stuning someone sets up an easy follow up with her R. Her E also makes landing combos easier.
Jhin
All his abilities except Q make landing your spells much easier. Pulling enemies in so Jhin can 4th shot them also feels amazing.
Xayah
She can set up a root with her E for you, her R also allows you to worry less about keeping pressure away from her.
But you aren't Rakan, so she doesn't like you D:
Samira
You land a W? She will tear someone to shreds. Just tell her not to press her passive instantly, since it overrides a knock back and may prevent/reduce damage from your E.
Vayne
Yes, she has a stun on her E, yes, she can push someone through your E using it. You cannot count on neither on those things. Her playstyle of "I will aa you to death chasing you with frequent dashes and 450+ ms" does not work with Taliyah well.
Jinx
There is a chance that someone walks into her chompers, but I wouldn't count on it. I would instead play around her W slow and enemies having to walk around her traps.
Tristana
Ping your cooldowns so your partner doesn't engage when you cannot follow. In many thousands of games not a single Tristana insec'd someone into my E - and neither will the one in your game. But all-in potencial is there, and if you land your spells you both deal absurd amounts of damage.
Also it is way easier when you start the fight with a burst combo, but you can most likely reliably do so after you get your first item.
Lucian
Recent Lucian changes cause him to gain all 4 passive stacks after you land your E+W. Just as with Kai'sa, no CC in his kit make your life harder. But at least he has high burst damage.
Sivir
No CC in kit = bad synergy. At least she is somewhat self-sustainable and with R she helps with kiting and repositioning, so she is better than Vayne.
Zeri
Zeri is yet another ADC who prefers to kite and bring down enemies with DPS instead of burst damage, she doesn't work great with mages in general.
Draven
Crazy damage early combined with you making pick for him makes him a good lane partner. He can use his E to push someone through your E (I have only seen ONE Draven player do it on purpose, maybe tell him about this synergy at the game start).
Varus
Long range poke, good short trades, can set up a wombo combo with his R. Just do not make him miss his abilities by using your E. That's mean.
Aphelios
One word: Gravitum. This champion simply has a couple of point-and-click roots every few minutes, and it makes your job easy.
Twitch
You can use his W slow to make landing spells easier. You can also both appear out of nowhere together for a surprise attack.
Nilah
Her ult may give you a chance to blow someone up, but that's it. She gives you bonus experience from minions, which is arguably more important than her R - you gain a lot of damage early simply by assigning points to your Q.
Kog'Maw
His E slows.
Yasuo
Like Samira, he can cancel your W pull with his ability (R) - tell him about it. Your W and R allow him to ult (using your ult this way is very questionable, but also very cool if you pull that off and he commits), his Q3 may lead into your burst combo
Kalista
Her W-passive gives a little bit of burst damage, her R can theoretically set up a W+E for you, but you shouldn't count on the latter. Her E slows, but unless she also gets a reset either its target is dead, or Kalista now has much less damage.
Ziggs
Nice poke, his minefield slows, his W may set you a combo.
[-1 rating because you are both AP and any wise player will build MR against you]
Swain
His pull can proc your E and you can follow up with W, then he also follows up with W and high damage Q. His R redirects pressure from you. A synergy so good even being an AP champ doesn't mean much.
Veigar
High burst damage, his cage is great for obliterating someone. Try to not pull someone out of his W.
[-1 rating because you are both AP and any wise player will build MR against you]
Seraphine
Your E and Q-boulder cause her E to instantly root. E and R set you up for burst combos.

Hello, I'm Maticz, a Taliyah main since season 10, and I managed to reach Masters playing her as a support.
In this guide I will mostly touch on botlane matchups and itemization.
Few important notes:
This guide is set as "archived" and as such will not be able to be searched for on this site - you need a direct link. Until I feel like the guild is truly complete and I learn how to use bbcode (so the guild does not look plain like this) it will remain a Taliyah Mains Discord exclusive.
Comments and votes are also turned off - any feedback, suggestions and criticism should be directed through Discord.
Hover over notes to read info about when to buy/choose given items, runes and spells.
Choose a build based on your matchup - check Threats/Synergies tab for recommendations. Consider all 3 other champions in your lane.
Gameplay footage coming soon TM, guild will be updated with more info over time.
