Welcome to my Kha'zix Guide

Here goes my guide for Kha'Zix. As you may know, Kha'Zix is a stealth assassin with an evolution system (which I will go in to detail in a later chapter in this guide). This allows him to be very versatile and change based on the situation as needed through a match. I have recently began playing him and must say I am quite impressed with his overall capabilities.

Pros / Cons

Pro's

Con's
  • Not a lot of health early on
  • only gets 3 of his 4 evolutions unless a special circumstance is met (will explain later)
  • Void Assault has a decently long c/d
  • easily countered by ranged champs early on

Evolution of the Void

With the introduction of Kha'zix, we find a new system of leveling called Evolution. As Kha'zix levels up his ultimate ability, Void Assault, he earns an evolution point that may be spent one of four ways:

Evolve Enlarged Claws

This evolution causes Kha'zix's claws to grow to a larger size. This gives him the benefit of a longer range for his basic attacks as well as his Taste Their Fear ability. This also deals bonus damage of Taste Their Fear by 12% of enemies missing health (max 200 vs minions) against isolated enemies.

Evolve Spike Racks

This evolution makes Kha'zix's shoulders grow long spikes which causes his Void Spike to fire in a cone instead of a line. In addition, your Unseen Threat is consumed to Slow and damage all enemies in the area of effect.

Evolve Wings

This evolution causes Kha'zix to sprout long wings which increase the range of Leap by nearly double. Also when you kill an enemy Champion or get the assist, the c/d is reset.

Evolve Active Camouflage

This evolution causes Kha'zix to change to a red color and is able to activate his stealth of Void Assault 3 times instead of 2 and decrease damage taken while stealthed by 40%.

So, what does this all mean? It means that Kha'zix can evolve as he levels to be able to take on many different types of enemies throughout the fight. Evolving claws makes you strong against isolated champions, Spike Racks gives you a nice cone style AOE which if fired at point blank on a crowd of minions gives you a lot of HP back and deals a nice chunk of damage too which is great for pushing, Wings gives you the range for really nice ganks, and Active camouflage gives you the ability to stealth 3 times in a row and slip in and out of combat quickly and take less damage while doing it.

Being that this guide is covering 2 different builds I will explain what evolution paths should be used based on which style you go with.

Spoiler Alert!!!!!!!!!!!!
As promised, here are the special circumstances for getting 4 evolution points.

First, you must be lvl 16+ and have used all 3 of your evolution points and have Rengar on the opposing team with 11+ stacks on his bonetooth necklace and engage him in a fight which triggers a quest called "The Hunt is On". If you successfully kill Rengar first, you get a 4th evolution point. If he kills you, he gets the benefit of a trophy of your head which gives him a full stack item that does not lose stacks on death. But fear not, there is another way.

Second, you must be lvl 16+ with all 3 evolution points and score a Pentakill (killing all 5 enemies in rapid succession).

Laning

Items

Lets jump straight into my item builds, shall we.

Starting Items:

, x3
Pretty standard starting items.

Next we move right into the Core of the build.
Core: > / > >

With this build you get some health, attack speed, crit, and of course either armor or cc duration reduction. I like this for a starting build due to Heart of Gold being a gold generator item which enables you to later afford your mid/late game items sooner. Also, if your opponents are heavy AD, you can trade it up for a Randuin's Omen later for some survivability.

Now for the Mid/Late game items:

Mid/Late Game: > > > > / /

This gets into the meat and potatoes of the build. With Frozen Mallet, you receive 20AD, 700 Health and everyone's personal favorite, a 40% slow on melee attack (30% on ranged). Makes for the ultimate chasing weapon, ensuring even the fastest champ will fall to your scythe-like claws. Next we have Phantom Dancer. Pretty self explanatory, Attack Speed, Crit Chance, and Movement Speed. Bloodthirster is nice for the life steal and overall AD increase it gives, especially at full stack. Trinity Force is an amazing choice for Kha'zix due to the slow, health, mana, attack speed, crit, AD, AP, pretty much amazing in every way. now for the armor items, Guardian Angel is great as a hybrid armor and its passive can be very nice. Force of Nature is another amazing choice especially if your up against a heavy AP team or just one really insane AP (such as Brand, Karthus,etc...), plus the health regen is nice too. And finally, Randuin's Omen. Nice little bit of Health, Regen, and Armor, plus a great passive which slows enemy attackers move and attack speed by 30% for 3 seconds (20% chance). Also has an active which slows surrounding units attack and movement speed by 35% for 2 seconds plus 0.5 seconds per 100 combined armor/MR you have.

Masteries

Runes

x9
Of all the marks you can give to Kha'Zix, Greater Mark of Attack Damage is by far the best choice. It gives you a good boost to your AD and ensures that you will be destroying your opponent very quickly. Another good choice would be to go with Greater Mark of Desolation x9, the armor pen comes in handy quite a bit

x9
Flat armor seals are always good for assassin types due to their squishy nature. you could also take Greater Seal of Health x9 for some extra health if you want but I recommend just go with the flat armor runes.

x9
MR is always important and you get much more from this glyph than a Flat MR glyph at 18. you can take Flat MR if you wish but this one is the recommended one for ranked.

x3
Flat AD is great for Kha'Zix as well as Greater Quintessence of Movement Speed for the added movement speed. You could also take Greater Quintessence of Desolation for Armor Penetration or Greater Quintessence of Life Steal for the life steal, the choice is yours.

Skill Sequence and Description of Rotation

Unseen Threat is your passive which increases your damage against the first champion you attack while it is active. the skill has no cooldown and is reapplied each time you become "unseen" by an enemy. this can occur through the Fog of War, hiding in the brush, or the use of your ultimate, Void Assault.

Void Spike should be the first skill you take and max due to its potency early on. This is also your only ranged ability and also is invaluable in clearing minions with once you evolve your Spike Racks with your first Evolution Point.

Taste Their Fear is your main "isolated" enemy attack. It has a very short cooldown (only 3 seconds) and hits the target for a lot of damage if "isolated". This should be your second ability to max out as well as the second Evolution you want to build in to.

Leap is your third skill and should be leveled last as it really doesn't do a lot of damage in early game. it will also be your third Evolution once you hit 16. This makes end game escapers think twice before they try to run away as your leap range is quite far.

Void Assault is your ultimate skill. This ability has many benefits. First, you enter stealth for 1 second which can reapply your passive buff each time you use it. Second, it increases your movement speed 40% during the stealth making it the perfect chasing ability. Third, the ability can be activated 2x within a 10 second time frame, with a 2 second cooldown between activations. Finally, if you evolve your Active camouflage, you can activate the ability a third time during the 10 seconds and you gain a 40% damage reduction during the stealth. This may seem like an amazing evolution with all its extra bonuses, but should be reserved for if/when you get a 4th evolution point. Also when you rank up this skill at 6, 11, and 16, you gain your evolution points.

Your skill rotation is based on how many enemies you are dealing with. In a 1v1 fight, save your Void Spike for chasing and initiate with Leap and follow up with Taste Their Fear followed by your ult, Void Assault and alternating with Taste Their Fear between activations. Finally, if the target tries to run, hit them with your Void Spike (if you have evolved your Spike Racks, you want your Unseen Threat to be active so it slows them).

in a 2+v1, you want to use Leap to initiate just like in a 1v1 but the immediately hit them with your Void Spike to deal maximum damage against a cluster of enemies. Follow this up by focus firing down one target with the same combo as in your 1v1, but also fire your Void Spike as often as possible to heal you and keep your enemies slowed.

Jungling

Items

Lets jump straight into my item builds, shall we.

Starting Items:

, x5
Adds early game survivability.

Next we move right into the Core of the build.
Core: > / >

In a good jungling build, you always want to have good Armor and Health, so pushing Madred's Razors early is essential. Mobility Boots are great for getting around the jungle quickly, and Mercury's Treads can aid in some good ganking with less worry about CC's. Pushing a Wriggle's Lantern next will help you alert your team when someone is trying to sneak up on them with its free sight ward ability. In addition it increases your damage and armor as well as gives you life steal and a very nice passive for cutting down minions/monsters.

Now for the Mid/Late game items:

Mid/Late Game: > > >

Not much changes between the laning build and jungling build for end game, you want to build [wiki=Frozen Mallet} and Phantom Dancer as soon as you can as well as focusing on getting Trinity Force and Bloodthirster after.

Movement speed is crucial in my opinion to a good jungler, being able to get the jump on someone by clearing the map quickly is a very important aspect of a jungler, plus you can quickly move from creep to creep to increase your leveling speed. Greater Quintessence of Experience is also a decent choice for the 6% total increase in XP, however it doesn't benefit you during end game at all and is normally avoided.

Rotations for jungling are pretty straight forward. Open with Void Spike and clear the weak ones with Taste Their Fear. you can also open with Leap and follow up with Void Spike, this at higher levels can clear weaker enemies quickly and allow you to apply your unseen threat bonus to the big monsters (Golem or Lizard).

For Team Fights, follow the Laning rules for 2+v1 fights.
