Introduction

Hello there! My summoner name is Similim and I'm proud to present you my guide for Shen. I've decided to create this guide to help you to become a better Shen and to share my experience (because this guy is my main).

First of all let me present you what will become your favorit champion: Shen
Shen is a solo toplaner who brings a lot of control to his team. He has suprisingly high damages against squishy target, he is able to split push really well and to have an impact on every lanes. He has an awesome tf potential, and his ult is AM-A-ZING if used well.
Don't forget that your role is to look after all your mates and keep them safe.

Read the guide carefully, and with some training you should become a very good Shen.
Have a nice moment reading this :D (I will update it frequently)

Spells

I'm going to talk about Shen's abilities, because there are some things that you need to know.

---- ---- ---- ----

PASSIVE Ki Strike
Shen's basic attacks periodically deal 8 - 76 (based on level) (+ 10% bonus health) bonus magic damage and restore 10 / 20 / 30 energy.
Every basic attack reduces Ki Strike's cooldown by 1 second, doubled to 2 seconds while his hield is active
A very good passive that fit perfectly Shen's role. The more HP you have and the more damages you'll deal, so hp items are really good on him. It also helps him not to run out of energy too quiclkly. Try to trade with your opponent when your passive is up.

Q Vorpal Blade
Shen throws a blade at the target enemy, dealing them magic damages and marking them for 5 seconds.
MAGIC DAMAGE: 60 / 100 / 140 / 180 / 220 (+ 60% AP)
Shen and allied champions heal over 3 seconds upon damaging a marked enemy, with the duration refreshing with subsequent damage.
HEAL PER SECOND: 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 (+ 0.5% maximum health)
MAXIMUM HEAL: 8 / 16 / 24 / 32 / 40 (+ 4% maximum health)
If Vorpal Blade kills its target, Shen instantly benefits from a second's worth of its healing.
Your poke and sustain ability. Throw it as much as you can at your opponent on laning phase, because you have no mana. If you want to restore some HP throw it at a minion and then last-hit.

W Feint
Shen shields himself for up to 3 seconds.
SHIELD: 60 / 100 / 140 / 180 / 220 (+ 60% AP)
Awesome ability that will help you to win your trades, and improve your capacity to tank in fight.

E Shadow Dash
Shen dashes in the target direction, dealing magic damage to all enemy champions he hits, taunting them for 1.5 seconds and restoring 40 energy per target hit.
MAGIC DAMAGE: 50 / 85 / 120 / 155 / 190 (+ 50% AP)
Taunted opponents deal half damage to Shen with their basic attack.
This ability is what makes you awesome. However use it wisely because it has a pretty long cooldown and cost a lot of energy. In fight, try to taunt squishy targets and carries, and let your allies finish them.

R Stand United
Shen channels for 3 seconds, granting the target allied champion a Stand United Minimap shield that lasts up to 5 seconds.
SHIELD: 250 / 550 / 850 (+ 135% AP)
If the channel completes successfully, Shen blinks to his target, placing himself between them and the nearest visible enemy champion.
This really is shen's signature. It helps you to have a global presence, and the shield is huge at lvl 16. Use it when you want to gank a lane, or when an ally is about to be slained.

Farming

Because you're a tank, farming is really important for you - If you have trouble with this, try to train in custom. On average, if you're an Ok player you should be around 100 minion at 17:00. When you will become better with Shen, and it becomes easier to farm you should be around 100 minions at 14:00. Don't forget that farming is REALLY important, so stay focus on it (and not only the 10 first minutes lol).

Summoner's spells

You may wonder what summoner's spell you should take for Shen - Here is the answer:

Pick this: 100%

It's easy: with Shen you must always pick flash. It's makes you more mobile, it's a great escape and with this summoner you can perform the famous +

Pick this: 90%

I almost always pick teleport too because it allows you to go back to your lane after you used your ultimate to save an ally. It helps you to keep your top tower still and to split push too.

Pick this: 8%

The perfect summoner's spell to get early kills, but it doesn't fit Shen's role imo. However, I recommend you to take this if you're against Volibear , Nasus or Vladimir to stop their healing.

Pick this: 2%

You can take this if you want to play the role of a second support. Indeed, with heal it's easier to save people with your ult, since you can use it just after the teleportation. However don't pick this too often, this really isn't the best on Shen.

Don't take any other summoner's spell on Shen, these are the best one.

Synergy

Awesome champions to be with -->

Rammus
If there is a Rammus in your team, you'll have a fun time. If this guy gank you it's almost always a free kill. The double taunt work wonders, and it will be easy to neutralize the carries in tf.

Twisted Fate
Ok, you'll put so much pressure to other lanes if you're with Twisted Fate. Indeed, both of your ults can help you to roam and to save your allies or to take some kills. It will be also easier to take objectives like Drake for instance. A really threatening duet.

Soraka
With her, you'll basically be the guardian angels of your team. Post 6 it will be easy to protect your allies in lanes thanks to your ultimates. It makes a really satisfying combo for you and your allies.

Items

Here, I'm going to list all the bad \ good items for Shen, and why you should or shouldn't buy them.

GOOD (Buy this !)

Sunfire Cape
Stats:
+500 health
+45 armor
Passive: UNIQUE – IMMOLATE: Deals 25 + (1 × level) magic damage per second to nearby enemies (400 range)
Very good item for Shen, mostly becasue of his passiv. Indeed, thanks to Sunfire you'll deal damages to nearby enemies + it will provide you some tankyness. It's a must-have.

Spirit Visage
Stats:
+500 health
+70 magic resistance
+150% base health regeneration
+10% cooldown reduction
Passive: UNIQUE: Increases all healing by 20%
Awesome item that I get almost every game with Shen because it gives you awesome tankyness and cd. The passiv has a nice synergy with your Q Vorpal Blade.

Trinity Force
Stats:
+250 health / +15% attack speed
+25 attack damage / +5% movement speed
+250 mana / +20% critical strike chance
+10% cooldown reduction
Passive: UNIQUE – SPELLBLADE: After using an ability, your next basic attack (on-hit) deals 200% base attack damage as bonus physical damage. (1.5 second cooldown)
UNIQUE – RAGE: Basic attacks (on-hit) grant +20 flat movement speed for 2 seconds. Killing a Unit grants +60 flat movement speed instead.
This is somehow your damage item. I recommend you to buy it in third position, after two items to get more tanky. Once you get this, you'll deal nice damages but you'll also be tanky enough to go in the middle of the fight. The only defect of trinity is the waste of mana, but it's not a big deal

Warmog's armor
Stats:
+850 health
+200% base health regeneration
Passive: UNIQUE – WARMOG'S HEART: Regenerate 1.5% maximum health every half-second if damage has not been taken in the last 8 seconds.
As I said before, Hp are awesome on Shen so don't deprive yourself. It will make both your passiv and Q Vorpal Blade stronger and you'll be tankier.

BAD (Don't buy this !)

Zhonya's Hourglass
Stats:
+45 armor
+100 ability power
Active: UNIQUE – STASIS: Put yourself in Stasis icon stasis for 2.5 seconds.
I know you may be tempted to buy this because it gives you some armor and ap, but don't ! Shen doesn't need any ap and you really don't want to be immune in fight.

Nashor's Tooth
Stats:
+50% attack speed
+80 ability power
Passive: UNIQUE: +20% cooldown reduction
UNIQUE: +15 (+ 15% AP) on-hit magic damage
A lot of people like to buy attack speed on Shen, so if you want to do so don't buy Nashor's Tooth, but buy Wit's End. Indeed, Wit's End will provide you some mr, which is good for you.

Iceborn Gauntlet
Stats:
+65 armor
+500 mana
+20% cooldown reduction
Passive: UNIQUE – SPELLBLADE: After using an ability, your next basic attack (on-hit) creates an ICY ZONE around the target for 2 seconds.
UNIQUE – ICY ZONE: Deals 125% base attack damage as bonus physical damage to all units within the area of effect and slows them by 30%.
This could be a very great item on Shen if this wouldn't be such a waste of mana. In fact, around 20% of the price of this item is due to the mana it gives. Never buy this.

SITUATIONAL (Hmm..?)

Zz'Rot Portal
Stats:
+60 magic resistance
+60 armor
+125% base health regeneration
Passive: UNIQUE – POINT RUNNER: Grants +20% bonus movement speed that build up over 2 seconds when near turrets (including fallen turrets) or Void Gates.
Active
UNIQUE: Spawns a Void Gate at target location for 150 seconds. Every 4 seconds the gate makes a Voidspawn Voidspawn that travels down the nearest lane and decays over time.
This is the item you need to buy if you want to slitpush. Place this in a bush or in an unexpected location and you'll be able to split really fast.

Rylai's Crystal Scepter
Stats:
+400 health
+100 ability power
Passive: UNIQUE – ICY: Damaging abilities slow affected units based on their type:
Single Target: 40% for 1.5 seconds.
Area of Effect: 40% for 1 second.
Damage over Time, Multi-Hit and Pet attacks: 20% for 1 second.
This is a really really situational item. Indeed, you have to buy it only if your team got almost no cc. This will help you to have more crowd control and to land your taunt more easily.

Titanic Hydra
Stats:
+450 health
+50 attack damage
+100% base health regeneration
Passive: UNIQUE – CLEAVE: Basic Attacks deal 5 (+ 1% maximum health) bonus on-hit physical damage. Additionally, basic attacks also deal 40 (+ 2.5% maximum health) physical damage in a cone to units behind the target.
Active: UNIQUE – CRESCENT: On your next basic attack, Cleave's damage to all targets is increased to 40 (+ 10% maximum health) and has a larger cone.
If you are always frontlane, you have to carry the game and so you need to deal damages, buy this. Wave clear will be easier and you'll be able to deal suprisingly nice amount of damage.

Conclusion

Et voila ! This is the end of this guide. I would like to apologize for my awful english (I'm French and everybody knows that french people can't talk English lmao) but I did my best to try to be understandable. Train in normal first, and then go to ranked with him when you're good enough.

If the guide helped you, if you liked it or if there is a problem with it, don't hesitate to post a comment. Feedbacks are always wecolmed :D

Thank you, and have a nice time playing the ninja Shen
