Hi, this is my guide to playing Udyr.
NOTE: This guide is in-depth and will show you how to play this champion in many ways.
And there's this one thing why most of my builds get flamed: THE BUILD IN THE ITEM SEQUENCE IS NOT THE ONLY ITEM BUILD. READ THE GUIDE BEFORE MAKING ANY STUPID COMMENTS.

Pros:
+good 1v1
+has great abilities
+has a shield
+has a stun
+can reach high attack speed
+abilities provide dodge chance
+godlike once he gets his items

Cons:
-kited quite easily
-can't do anything if he's not in melee range
-no ultimate ability
-can't get all skills to max level
-weak early game

Ghost - Stack this with Blazing Stampede to close distance much easier.
Flash - I take this in most cases, as it lets me get closer to my enemies.
Exhaust - Udyr is a great 1v1 champion, even better with this.
Cleanse - Viable for almost anyone, saves your life so many times.
Teleport - Go to lane much faster, so you don't lose alot of XP.
Ignite - Stack it with Wilding Claw to do good DoT.
Clarity - You are mana hungry, why not?


I don't recommend other spells for this build.

- Monkey's Agility - This is why you can 1v1 most enemies, and the reason why you should stance dance. Stance dancing is switching from stance to stance to keep your passive up. You get buffed as long as you keep switching stances. This is hard to keep up in early game, due to low mana, but not a problem in late game.


- Tiger Stance - On activate, your next attack deals magic damage over time, and you have increased attack speed for a few seconds. As long as this stance is on, you gain attack speed. This is a great 1v1 tool that lets you do much more damage to single targets. Combine this with Youmuu's Ghostblade and Bridge Between to get huge attack speed.


- Turtle Stance - On activate, you gain a shield that absorbs damage. This shield can save your life under turret fire alot. Use this when you run away if you think your enemy will attack you more. As long as this stance is on, you gain lifesteal and your attacks regenerate mana. It doesn't regenerate alot in early game, but it does in lategame.


- Bear Stance - On activate, your movement speed is boosted for a short time. Good for catching up and running away. As long as this stance is on, your attacks stun for 1 second. A target that was already stunned can't be stunned again in the next 6 seconds. This is pretty neat for destroying things like Meditate, Death Lotus or Idol of Durand.


- Phoenix Stance - On activate, you send out AOE flames around you for 5 seconds. Lets you farm well. As long as this stance is on, your every third attack seods out an AOE flame in front of you. This skill is godlike for farming, but you mostly have to use Iron Mantle to regain health.


The thing about Udyr that matters the most is stance dancing. Stance dancing is crucial on Udyr, because as long as you constantly switch stances, your attack speed and dodge chance will grow, making you a 1v1 beast. Stance dancing is hard in early-game, but it doesn't matter so much then.

Udyr is not a great laner, because he doesn't have good harassment, or a dash ability like Nimbus Strike, Shunpo, Twisted Advance. You will focus on last-hitting, and regenerating your health with Iron Mantle. Try not to get into trouble, and if you want to try to kill someone, jump them from the bush: the element of surprise is great.

Udyr's best laning friends are: Blitzcrank, Alistar, a support like Taric, Sona, Soraka. Most of these can heal you and let you stay in lane, or can CC your enemy and do more damage. Blitzcrank is great for this, as he can get your enemy in melee range and let you smash them to pieces.
Udyr's worst lane enemies are: Vayne, Caitlyn, Rumble and Urgot. Most of these can bully you and keep you away from farming, or do quite nice damage in early game. Vayne can kite you and keep distance easily, Caitlyn is an overpowered freak with huge range, Rumble can bully your lane all the time, and Urgot's acid rockets are a nightmare.

Ah... fighting Champions. This is where Udyr really excels.

Before you start fighting Champions, make sure to get your passive to maximum stacks. It will make a huge difference if you are fighting a DPS character.

If the enemy is running away, you can catch up with Blazing Stampede. Use Youmuu's Ghostblade if you have it, and even Ghost, the latter if necessary. As soon they know escaping won't be easy, use Wilding Claw to chop them to pieces. It will let you kill your enemy even faster if the enemy team is coming. If your enemy can do quite a bit of punishment, use Iron Mantle just in case.

Udyr is great against physical damage DPS glass cannons. You get your passive stacked up to get around 10% dodge chance, even up to almost 30% with Ninja Tabi and runes. This means that you can destroy that Master Yi, Gangplank, Tryndamere if they aren't careful.

For 1v1, use Blazing Stampede to catch up and stun, then Wilding Claw if you are stronger, or Iron Mantle if it's a close call.

Items are a problem for most Udyrs. Udyr's choice of items is so situational that he doesn't even have a real core build.

Force of Nature
Thornmail
Swap Spirit Visage for Guardian Angel

Pros of this build: You will end up with 200+ MR and armor, and around 4000 health
Cons of this build: Much lower damage output

Wit's End
Hexdrinker
Youmuu's Ghostblade
Madred's Bloodrazor
Frozen Mallet

RECOMMENDED UDYR 2:

Banshee's Veil

RECOMMENDED UDYR 3:

Youmuu's Ghostblade
Madred's Bloodrazor
Frozen Mallet
Banshee's Veil
Atma's Impaler

Pros of these recommended builds: Decent damage output mixed with decent survivability
Cons of these recommended builds: Sometimes not enough of both


All these item builds depend on how you play Udyr, what your team needs, and how is the enemy team lined up. I strongly recommend mixing these items from the recommended builds, because they grant you what you need. An example of how you can try Udyr is in the item purchase order.
