Introduction to the Headman's Pride

Urgot is a strong pick on Dominion. While very damaging with his Acid Hunter & Noxian Corrosive Charge he retains strong defensive capabilities without needing to invest too much defensively because of his Zaun-Touched Bolt Augmenter & Terror Capacitor. When Urgot does start to build defensively he becomes an unstoppable duelist even capable of taking on multiple opponents with his R.

In this guide I will not talk about items, and what their role is in each build. Instead, I will tell you how to build against certain champions and what the matchup means for you. This guide is mostly focused on Urgot going bot, but for good measure I've attached a build when you feel that going top is more in your favor.

Builds

The Wizard Hunter
Survive the burst and return fire.

Focusing mostly on defense will make you very chunky and your Terror Capacitor a big problem for them. You're biggest problem with AP bursters is their damage and with this build it shouldn't pose any problem.

Core: Maw of Malmortius & Odyn's Veil

Techmaturgic Butcher
Assassins can't kill you if you're not getting hurt

While this build also focuses on defense it's even bigger than with AP Bursters since AD Assassins have quite the sustained dps as well. You minimize this with Warden's Mail. Together with hyper-kinetic position reverse and Randuin's Omen they will be slowed for at least 6 seconds, giving you a garanteed kill.

Core: Warden's Mail & The Brutalizer & Phage

The Curseling Count
They won't be able to outheal you stop them from healing.

Healing Mages aren't that troublesome on Dominion but Master Yi is one of the few exceptions. Building against their healing capabilities will ensure that you will shove them off the lane with ease.

Core: Wicked Hatchet & Hexdrinker & The Brutalizer

The Leechlord Obliterator
Even lifesteal won't save them from your damage.

Some lifestealers are impossible to kill if they get the right items, taking their lifesteal away will ensure your victory.

Core: Wicked Hatchet & Warden's Mail & Phage

The Veil Eater
The veil won't last forever.

Even though you can attack people that you hit with Noxian Corrosive Charge a backup plan is still a good option, especially with you being a sitting duck if you miss that shot. Grez's Spectral Lantern takes care of this problem like no other, it's cheap and it will be very helpful in destroying those stealthy champions.

Core: Grez's Spectral Lantern & Warden's Mail & Hexdrinker

The Troop Manipulator
Controlling the flow of battle.

Even on Top Urgot is a force to be reckoned with. Making full use of his damage output while maintaning some form of utility is a must. Going in with hyper-kinetic position reverse and Randuin's Omen will cripple their melee dps. They won't be able to reach you for at least 6 seconds because of the stacked armor.

Core: Aegis of the Legion & Randuin's Omen & The Brutalizer

Masteries & Runes per build

Runes

Precision
Fleet Footwork
Phase Rush

A good amount of defence will let you shoot them on even grounds, you already have high damage but against a full bruiser you will need that extra bit of defence when they go in hard.

Recommended Summoner Spells: Heal, Ignite, Barrier, Exhaust.

Runes

Precision
Fleet Footwork
Phase Rush

Most of your defense you get from items, we focus on damage because it's important to take them down fast after their initial burst.

Recommended Summoner Spells: Heal, Ignite, Barrier.

Runes

Precision
Fleet Footwork
Phase Rush

We focus on Survivability mostly. Your damage is fine, what you are missing is utility. Apart from your hyper-kinetic position reverse there's not much you bring to the table so a garrison is bound to be helpfull.

Recommended Summoner Spells: Garrison, Ghost.

Abilities

Urgot truly makes himself stand out as a dangerous dueller. This is mostly because of the synergism of his abilities.

autoattacks against enemy champions reduce their attack damage. This gives him a huge boost in survivability when going up against an enemy. Together with Terror Capacitor Makes him very tanky. Truly the only ranged bruiser in the game.

Note: To keep them pacified with your bolts, alternate your fire with Acid Hunter & autoattacks. You want to keep the damage reduction up as much as possible.

His main poke and damage dealer. If they keep their distance, punish them. If they engage, use Noxian Corrosive Charge and punish them.

Poking them will give you a high level of harassment that will force them to heal up or fight you directly head on. Bob and weave into the wave of creeps and try to hit them while trying to avoid their attacks.

Note: Try to be passive aggressive at all times. Do not hunt them down, poke them and kill them when they try to either get away or fight you head on.

His shield and his slow. If you get the opportunity to land Acid Hunter, turn this on and slow them down. If they engage, turn it on and protect yourself.

Your Terror Capacitor gives you a nice margin of effective health, effective in the sense that shields are calculated after Armor and Magic Resist. Building defensively will ensure that your shield becomes even more effective without needing to build ability power to increase the amount.
This coupled with heal will make it absolutely infuriating for the enemy to try and take you down since you can bait and switch them twice.

Note: The shield is decent at first but it is a lot stronger once you start levelling it up. Do not underestimate how tanky you are.

This baby shreds their armor to pieces, even if they try to build defensive you will just tear them apart. On top of the shredding you’re also locking unto enemies and will hit them even while stealthed. This will make short work of one of the most deadly duelers, Akali.

This move is quite hard to land on capable enemies so try not to predict their movement, use it when they engage you or when they start an autoattack and you’re close.

Note: Always hold on to it if you're not sure of your shot. Don't just shoot it off cause if you miss you will be at quite a disadvantage.

Hyper-Kinetic Position Reverse When you get to lvl 6 they will need to either place 2 people on bottom or they will be forced to buy a Quicksilver Sash.

Quicksilver Sash allows them to break out of your ultimate, it is the only counter available but will leave them with quite a gold deficiency. Not only are they buying MR but it is a defensive item pulling you even more ahead of them in terms of dueling power.

If you manage to pull of an ultimate you become quite impervious to everything except true damage. This coupled with your passive will allow you to even trounce 2 enemies at the same time in certain matchups.

Note: The Gamebreaker, with this you become the best dueller there is. No one will kill you in those 5 seconds, the only counter is true damage.

Matchups

Preperation is half the battle, tactics come later.

She’s a real pain in the ***, but not for you. Shoot her as often as you can while she sneaks around the brush or focus on killing the creeps in your lane. If she goes in with Twilight Shroud you need to wait till she shows herself to use her Mark of the Assassin. Once she throws her kama shoot a Noxian Corrosive Charge at her. She will not be able to hide in her Twilight Shroud once you hit her and you can just pump her full of Acid Hunters.

Be sure to activated your shield once you land your Noxian Corrosive Charge. She will try to get away when she gets hit.

Akali’s strongest setup is invisibility and her Shadow Dance dash to dodge your Noxian Corrosive Charge.
Buying The Lightbringer will stop her invisibility completely and will allow you the error of missing a Noxian Corrosive Charge.

Recommended Builds: Veil Eater, Techmaturgic Butcher.

Recommended Summoner Spells: Barrier, Heal.
She outranges you threefold. When you can see the Javelin Toss move towards you it’s not really a danger, but a good Nidalee travels along the sides of the lane and this will make it impossible to dodge if you do not stay near the bottom behind your creep wave.

Once you know how to deal with the Javelin Toss her only option of dealing with you before lvl six is by turtling at her turret, Primal Surge, and leveling up.

Once she is lvl 6 she will try to kill you with a combination of traps and cheetah form. Watch carefully not to walk into any traps, they are usually placed in the brush. Walking into a trap and getting pounced by her cheetah form will kill you unless you have your ultimate ready.

She should pose no problem against Urgot and will most likely switch once she dies.

Recommended Builds: Wizard Hunter, Techmaturgic Butcher.

Recommended Summoner Spells: Ignite, Heal.
A good counterpick against Urgot. Her Intervention alone destroys his ult by atleast 50%.

A good Kayle will keep a middle of the road approach. Her passive aggressive playstyle will freeze the lane, she will try to avoid your Noxian Corrosive Charge with her increased movement speed from Divine Blessing so landing it will be quite hard, especially since she is ranged. The trick to this is shooting it when she fires her Reckoning. If they are inexperienced in the matchup they will try to fire Reckoning at you to poke, repay her back in kind.
Try to take control of the middle ground in the matchup so you can enjoy the health pack while shooting Acid Hunter in her face. If she huddles under the tower, try to harass and farm as much as she does.

Recomended Builds: Techmaturgic Butcher.

Recommended Summoner Spells: Ignite, Heal.

His Main power comes from Shock Blast. He will endlessly try to poke you with it and if you get hit it will hurt. Try to avoid as much as you can. If you aren't getting hit by Shock Blast he won't be able to kill you. His damage per second is just not as good as yours and you can stand through way more punishment than he can.

Building hybrid might work but a Banshee's Veil will make this an easy match.

Recommended Builds: Techmaturgic Butcher, Wizard Hunter

Recommended Summoner Spells: Barrier, Heal.

Swain can be dangerous if you do not build the right items against him. Wicked Hatchet Solves the healing problem but his zoning is dangerous with Nevermove & Decrepify if you fail to hit your Noxian Corrosive Charge. Buying a Mercurial Scimitar can bring a full stop to both his zoning and he will most likely not be able to lane against you.

Don't chase him when he has the life lead and is past lvl 6, he will just slow you and slowly dwindle down your life, try to poke him where you can.

Recommended Builds: Curseling Count

Recommended Summoner Spells: Ignite, Heal.

If you are not near your creeps, be extra careful that he doesn't jump on your. You will need your hyper-kinetic position reverse everytime he catches you out of position.

When you first meet him at lvl 3, poke him and slow him down with Terror Capacitor if he comes close. Zone him out, you will win if you fight near your creeps.

A warden's mail will cripple his damage severely, try to get one as fast as you can if you are having trouble with him.

Recommended Builds: Techmaturgic Butcher

Recommended Summoner Spells: Barrier, Heal.

A strange match for you, your Q is the same as his and even if you use your hyper-kinetic position reverse he will just Arcane Shift away. Trying to hit Noxian Corrosive Charge will also prove unfruitful because of Arcane Shift.

To stop his zoning build a phage, if you get into a position where you can autoattack him he will try to Arcane Shift away. Turn on your Terror Capacitor and shoot him down, he's not going anywhere. He is quite squishy so this will usually turn into a range fight where you will try to hit eachother. Focus on the creepwaves instead, he can not push while you are standing there.

Recommended Builds: Wizard Hunter, Techmaturgic Butcher

Recommended Summoner Spells: Ignite, Heal.

AP Malzahar poses absolutley no treat to you so I will not go into detail about that one.

AD Malzahar is different, he is dangerous if you try to fight him the wrong way.

AD malzahar will use Summon Voidling on every fourth ability. His summon gets 100% of his bonus attack damage so if youve played against a Mordekaiser with a summon you know how hard he can hit.

Unlike Mordekaiser Malzahar has quite the zoning, pushing and utility next to his raw damage. Try to build a lot of armor and do not focus too much on health. His Null Zone completly shuts down health based item builds.

Try to gauge the time his summon is active, when 17 seconds have passed it's your time to go in. by the time the voidling can attack you it will be desummoned and he will be extremely weak. Keep looking for this opening and build a Quicksilver Sash if you need to get out of his Touch of Death Combo : ( Null Zone + Summon Voidling + Nether Grasp)

Recommended Builds: Techmaturgic Butcher

Recommended Summoner Spells: Barrier, Heal.

He does extreme amounts of burst damage, but that's all he has. Once you survive his onslaught he will try to get away with Shadow Assault. Using Noxian Corrosive Charge simply isn't gonna work, he's too fast and it is way too unpredictable where he will move. Instead, use the mist from gregz's spectral lantern or The Lightbringer. Once you see where he's headed shoot him down, he is quite squishy so you can return much of the damage he's done to you.

When you are fighting half way he will try to make his way to the health pack once you spot him with the mist. Try to maintain dominance by blocking of this path and build a Phage to keep him close.

Recommended Builds: Veil Eater

Recommended Summoner Spells: Ignite, Heal.

This man is an annoyance, every time you try to attack him he will just heal up and throw snowballs in your face.

Dealing with him can be tough but remember that he doesn't have that much damage, getting a Wicked Hatchet and keeping him under control with Ignite should give you the upper hand early game. If he tries to use Absolute Zero later on, use hyper-kinetic position reverse to intterupt him.

Poke him and push, he will try to do the same but try to dwindle his life down.

Recommended Builds: Curseling Count, Leechlord Obliterator

Recommended Summoner Spells: Ignite, Heal.

A lot of mobility and burst damage, don't panic.

Scenario 1:

Fizz will use Urchin Strike & Playful / Trickster to dodge your Noxian Corrosive Charge. He will start attacking you with Seastone Trident but you will hurt him a lot when he's standing close. When he uses Playful / Trickster wait for him to come down and hit him with Noxian Corrosive Charge and take him down.

Scenario 2:

Let's say that Fizz is actually beating you with superior items, this can happen. Do not worry, he has burst but does not have the sutanained damage to take you down with hyper-kinetic position reverse, Barrier and Terror Capacitor. Use your hyper-kinetic position reverse and damage him, then when he almost has you you go in with barier and Terror Capacitor. He will need a lot of items to get through that, beat him, take his tower and buy resistance or health for the next encounter.

Recommended Builds: Curseling Count,
Leechlord Obliterator

Recommended Summoner Spells: Barrier, Heal.

This guy is the sole reason I have an anti lifesteal build. He will wreck you with his ultimate if you do not react appropriately once mid game rolls in. Do no underestimate the amount he can heal even with ignite active.

When he becomes lvl 6 he will go after you with Cryptic Gaze and Cannibalism. You have 2 options here:

- If your hyper-kinetic position reverse is ready to use. Use it after he uses Cryptic Gaze on you, the extra armor and magic resistance will stop most of the healing he will get, try to do enough damage to him to finish him off or to stop him from autoattacking you.

- If you do not have hyper-kinetic position reverse ready, use your combination of ignite and exhaust to stop him from healing.

Recommended Builds: Leechlord Obliterator

Recommended Summoner Spells: Exhaust, Ignite.

She is not a hard matchup for you at all. Use your creep wave as a shield against her Dark Binding.

If you manage to get hit twice you will probably lose the lane and will have to retreat to get your health back.

One you dodge Dark Binding Go after her and count 9 seconds and see if you can do some damage. Go back after 9 seconds, she will try to fire another Dark Binding or she will notice you falling back.

Use you [hyper-kinetic position reverse] when she uses Soul Shackles.

Recommended Builds: Wizard Hunter

Recommended Summoner Spells: Barrier, Heal.

This guy is dangerous, and your only option of dealing with him is shoving the lane hard. Focus on killing creep waves and getting gold. He will shove just as hard to freeze the lane but he won't be as strong as you will mid game. Just take it easy, farm and wait for the switch when mid game arrives. Build towards him and the possible switch.

His Omen of Death will make it dangerous to go in with your hyper-kinetic position reverse. If he dies, he will probably kill you.

The one that dies first in this lane will lose, don't die and you will gain the upper hand eventually.

Recommended Builds: Wizard Hunter

Recommended Summoner Spells: Barrier, Heal.

Even nerfed he's still dangerous. He freezes the lane and will meditate all his cares away.
An annoying scumbag through and through.

Make sure to let him taste the sharp end of Wicked Hatchet to stop him from healing up.

Use Ignite to stop him from healing when he is above 50% and use Barrier to decrease the damage on Alpha Strike

Recommended Builds: Curseling Count

Recommended Summoner Spells: Ignite, Barrier.

She will try to poke you with Crescent Strike. Try to avoid the arc. She is a lot like you in the sense that she does a load of damage and has a shield. Next to that she has quite the poking potential.

When you have your hyper-kinetic position reverse she will be easy pickings. Just try to out poke her and last till lvl 6. SHe can't handle your tankiness.

Recommended Builds: Curseling Count

Recommended Summoner Spells: Ignite, Barrier.
