Hmm, I'm on the fence atm about how I should go about building a hybrid to try out.
Forgoing survivability may be viable seeing as how if you're going into their range anyway, you might as well do good damage.

In regards to Hybrid TF, what do you guys think is a superior build concept?
Ability Power with Attack Speed?
or
Ability power with an Attack Damage finish?
Definitely only AP/AS. AD won't really be needed with a hefty nuke every 4th attack.

I avoid being there when the initiate happens, and prefer to comr from the flanks to hit their carries. TF built AP/AS like I do can shred HP incredibly fast. Just carry Flash to pop away if they focus you.
As an AD/AS TF player I must say he rarely fails me, but I must say this having that short attack range really kinda sucks. Though AP if your ever gonna use your W and E you have to be really close to melee. Unless you are just going to throw Wild cards all day long.
Though my belief is hey I'm already this close to that really scary carry, but hey why not kick his butt while I'm here. Though I must say feinting a retreat and then coming back in with another gold card makes up for that short range. But yeah usually whenever I play him I get a pretty good score. Though the buff to his pick-a-card so now all the cards stack AD is awesome.
Oh yeah by the way Wrath.....RAAAAAGGGGGGEEEEE.

Yes, that's how we do it. Throw Wild Cards all day. It's dam fun, viable, and effective.
The rebuttal to your AD killing their carry is: Yes, you got to their carry, and their tank is right beside them.
Prepare for the worst. e.e
Also don't understand why you wouldn't make use of such a wonderful skill shot.
With AP, you only use your Stacked Deck once per combo at most. It's mainly raised for the cooldown.
The main combo is to have stacked deck ready, gold card, wild cards -> get a kill or they're low enough for team to finish.
Every time you use W, you stun, wild cards, then run away like a good assassin should go.

Or you could destiny in behind their carry, and not get focused at all because they are usually caught up in the teamfight. Also you did not read the whole feign retreat part did you? Where I do the assassin part of get the heck out after I do my damage (unless I'm not being focused), but then come back in with a gold card as a harbringer for my next victim.
Though ya know each to their own.

How to tank guide (Revamped! 10/13)
As a Twisted Fate main, I will share with you the 2 viable builds for TF in my mid ELO (1600s) bracket. Both require solomid and I run Ghost/Flash on him as he has range issues. Both also focus on getting tons of farm, and then split pushing the rest of the game and taking all the enemy towers, while cleaning up kills or punishing people overextending.

SotD, Rageblade, Gunblade, Lichbane, Nashor's and either AS boots or some heavy AP item.
I tend to avoid buying survivability on him and just go for damage.
