@nomad

read, I mentioned this already previously...

and ok Xai I guess you are right about that, I might try ranked again when S2 starts.

I'm still not a fan of the Elo system for solo though x_x

You should try it before the ELO "supposedly" resets, I'm going to give it a go before it resets so i have a feel for the "ranked play". But what's holding me back is the 1 second spikes that happen every time I enter combat, I'll just see what happens or wait for a computer with a better graphics card, or better internet connection (Using a router plugged into another router to widen area of the connection, but weakening the strength of the internet overall) =/

And my comment gets completely ignored because someone posted over it on another page right as I posted... Great.

Afternoon Adonikam. Logged on. Thread is OVER 9000! Seriously though. 6 pages in 6 hours? o.O

@Bard - believe me. Once you get a taste of Ranked, you'll rather Ranked over Normals any day. Normals are just for teh lulz. You can do whatever you want in them and no one cares (well, your team might care, but I certainly don't). Ranked is for when you actually want to find out how good you are.

Ranked > Normal.

But games are fun and normals, as you said, are more carefree = more fun I think.

If you want fun, go play Custom Games like PTQ or ARAM. Normals are literally trollfests. Most of the time, 1/2 your team wants to win, 1/2 your team wants to troll. Normals are literally a joke. If you do win a normal, I'm 99% sure that people on the enemy team are just sandbagging.

AKA: People in ranked find their true skill and place in the elo system. From there, you work your way up. Normals is literally filled with trolls.

I love how you constantly say normal is trolling trolling trolling trolling.

I usually don't troll in normal, nor my friends nor allies nor enemies.

Very hardly do I see this, most of the time people actually take it seriously...

I never see these "trollfests" that you are talking about

@Nomad, that's a really bad example. You don't have to have gay sex to know it feels good because by definition an ****** feels good and you definitely still have an ****** if you're gay.

Xaioli, I think you missed my question about what can Riot do to fix normals. My best guess is changing the mode to draft and coming down hard with the ban hammer and teaching people that trolling just because you don't have Elo on the line is unacceptable.

On the subject of normals being a complete trollfest and the mindset that perpetuates even serious players treating normals as a joke... that's absurd. It's pretty much like ranked. You win some you lose some -> ranked, you sometimes get trolls/feeders sometimes you don't -> normal.

Also, that number of 99% regarding people that take this game seriously in general. I really wanna know why you think that? If most people treat normals as trollworthy jokes then how are they exactly taking the game seriously? If you are a serious player who plays ranked and you just take a break to play normal and troll like an ******* you are just perpetuating the mindset that normals are a joke. I've had plenty of serious games in normal. Hell my one normal game yesterday had a perfectly reasonable team and the other team was fairly decent as well. Some big mistakes on their part made the win easier past a certain time marker in the game, but other than that it was fairly even. On that note, if you wanna not take **** seriously and just troll it up, go play coop vs AI or something. Some people only play normal so when you feel like taking a break from your Elo buffing please don't step out and contribute further to the tarnishing of our normal games (our being anyone who lives in normals for the most part).

On the subject of HoN, I agree. But it's not really any surprise. Same type of people, same result. People only give a **** when they can pad their e-peen's length. So regular games are a joke. Although the learning curve to DotA/HoN is far larger than LoL's to be fair, so getting a ridiculous amount of noobs in your games is just part of the experience which is why I got bored. That and the flexbility with items is just so boring.

Regarding a "number being attached to you" as I originally put it, I do not agree. The reason is that if everyone starts out at the same Elo (?) or roughly the same Elo (at least low) and fluctuates a lot how do you even know when someone's reached their appropriate Elo, assuming they're not way up there like say over 1800. To bring HoN up again, I was involved with the competitive community for a long while and I spectated a ton of high level inhouses (1800+ Elo) and the dudes that weren't known pro players and were just spot fillers would occasionally be completely incompetent. Everyone starts out at 1500 in HoN for those that don't know and 1800 is a pretty decently hard barrier to break. Anyway, as you or someone else mentioned a while back, some days you gain 50 Elo and some days you lose 50 Elo. So how accurate is a rating that can fluctuate that radically? I mean, that's easily the difference between being above 1600 and being below it. I mean, if Elo measuring is anything like it was in HoN (LoL community easily > HoN community to be fair) then I could easily see forum arguments going like this: I make a point -> another guy says "you're below 1600, your opinion is invalid" -> "yeah, well I was over 1600 yesterday" -> same guy says "yeah, well you're below it today so who gives a ****?". Summary, does anyone actually give a flaming rat's *** what Elo you should be at? No, they only care about Elo when theirs is higher than yours. As George Carlin would say *loud fart sound* who gives a ****?

I mean, how can you honestly say that the number is accurate when it can change from a game packed with trolls. I mean, the frequency of troll-filled games is obviously somewhat reduced between normal to ranked, but it still happens. This comes back to my contesting your (Xaioli) estimate of 99% of players take this game seriously and try to improve. If that was the case then why is around 85% of the community below 1400? Of course it takes a while to learn this game, but this game's been out for quite a while now, so the average should at least be up a bit higher.

I suppose in the end Elo is inaccurate as hell because it's not alterable strictly in a "controlled environment" so to speak. I mean, if you only had Elo on the line in tournaments you would see Elo become at least a bit more accurate, but you can't strain out all the trolls even in ranked games, so what is really the point? If the number can't really be accurate why not just do away with it and play for fun and the only way to have Elo is tournaments.

Here's something I just checked: The span of Elo ratings in modern chess are between 2200 and 2800 with about 2-3 people being over 2800). The span in LoL as reported on Elementz's blog is 1200-2400. The span is significantly larger in LoL than in Chess (600 in Chess to 1200 in LoL). I think this definitely implies something about the accuracy of Elo ratings in LoL. At the least it means they fluctuate too much.

Anyway, I think I've rambled long enough. I'll give someone else a chance to speak. :P

I'm just going to give you a +rep for your efforts in this Doc.

I'd like to start and make a point that I myself DON'T troll in Normals. However, I usually find most of the teams just full of people looking to mess around. It's a waste of my time, and I feel like Normals can't possibly teach me anymore. Again, if you're curious, my Normal Queue Elo is 200+ Spread. Couple people have said that's really good, so we'll just say it's decent eh? :)

When it comes to 'fixing normals', nothing is going to happen unless Riot distributes hard bans. Like, Permanent bans or very long temp bans. Otherwise, people are still going to troll regardless. Even if it's Draft Mode. For example, har har har I ban the ****tiest champions. Everyone look at me, I'm so funneh! Again, people won't take Normals seriously unless there's something to lose/is a big punishment. Seeing how the LoL community is at it's current state, if Riot would deliver hard bans/long suspensions, it will either improve the LoL community and bring more serious players in, or it'd devastate a vast majority of the community and this free game would be too expensive for Riot to handle because of the lower playerbase. Again, that's just me forming some logic into my thoughts. I could be wrong.

Regarding the 99% estimate, that was obviously a number out of my ***. I was hoping people would take it as a reference to the amount of people that usually try in ranked games that are above 1200 elo. I mean, people under 1200 are under for a reason. However, 99% of the people above 1200 (to me of course) try very hard to increase their elo.

With the whole, elo and number attached to you, my thoughts are this. If I hit 1900 once, and fell to 1500, I wouldn't consider myself 1900. To me, being at #### elo requires you to sustain that certain elo, 50 elo give or take. Let's say I was 1900 and fell to 1850. It's only 50 elo, no biggie. But if I fell several hundred elo, I wouldn't couldn't consider myself at that elo anymore. Too much of a gap.

Anyways, it's late and I have no idea why I'm up so late. Again, if I missed more points of yours, my b. Just post below and I'll respond to ya ;)
