I ALWAYS PERMA BAN DRAVEN. Not much counterplay to Draven as a whole, your support matchup matters the most in this one. Take Exhaust into this lane.
Its really hard to out-trade MF as she has her Passive with her Auto to Double Up combo. Also, comet this season on her is relevant, so it makes it that much harder to lane. Kai'Sa is also low range, so she risks taking the guaranteed crit from her Q for trying to farm! Tread carefully against this champion.
We've been seeing her pick number as an ADC diminish, BUT, she still is extremely dangerous against a Kai'Sa. She has her W to counter your E and R, stopping you from repositioning or attempting to run away.
Avoid fighting in minions as your Q distribution will go to more than one target, thus making you do FAR less damage. Try to fight ISOLATED.
Lucian has ridiculous amounts of all in potential and he has way better short trading potential than Kai'Sa. Lucian has a super strong early game, where as Kai'Sa doesnt.
Ashe will always be annoying as its how the champion is designed. She has 75 more range than Kai'Sa, good poke and high utility. Pair all of that with her chase down ability with approach velocity and you have yourself a tough lane. Surviving this lane and playing around your support's engages are most important here! She's really immobile.
I only put Kalista here because 90% of the time she's picked, its with a hard engage support. Combine that with great all in potential, especially at 6, it can make it a tough lane for Kai'sa.
Tristana can be a really tough lane for any champion, not just Kai'Sa. This season, her all in ability with Hail of Blades just got even better. Take exhaust here and watch for level 2 all ins.
Varus isn't too bad as long as you watch for his poke with Piercing Arrow. He'll try to throw down his E on top of you when you walk up for CS, so just be weary here and try not to take too much damage.
This lane is only even if you dont respect his W. He'll use it often to either farm or poke, so just back away, wait it out and he's free game till its back up.
Samira has been dumbed down a lot since her release, she's only good with high cc supports or those with knock ups. Its really hard for Samira to kill you early games as she has lower range than you at 500. She HAS to rely heavily on her support to make a move.
Twitch isnt that big of a deal as long as you respect his invisibility and level 6 spike. Dont willingly take his passive stacks from his W, his early game is very weak.
A good Vayne can be an issue, she has higher range and some higher damage/trade potential than you because of the way her passive and PTA work, She's doing the same as you and looking to farm and scale because her early game is extremely weak. Try to abuse it.
For most people, i'd put her in the "MAJOR" category. But if you know what you're doing, Cait isnt really that bad. All inning her at level 1 is KEY and not letting her shove you in freely is the best ways to beat Cait. She's very weak against all in champs and thats exactly what Kai'Sa is.
Jinx's only saving grace here is her range with her rocket autos. Other than that, here damage is really lack luster, her mobility is some of the worst in the game. You win trade with your passive and hail of blades easily.
Jhin is meta as of now, but he has an attack speed limiter compared to your Hail of Blades, Passive and W trading pattern. Its hard to lose lane unless you really mess up.
Xayah is pretty awkward champion, especially right now. She has low range just like you, uses a lot of mana with her abilities and overall is really support dependent.
There isnt much of a threat Sivir has. Especially this season, she only has 500 AA range to your 525, abuse it. Use Q to get rid of spell shield and then W. Really EASY to bully.
This is by far the easiest lane in the game for Kai'Sa. Start cull because its a full farm lane and Ezreal's early game is EXTREMELY weak. Play behind minions and dont get poked out and there's no way to lose this lane.
Leona is by far my favorite support with Kai'Sa, lots of CC which also applies you passive Plasma stacks, extremely tanky even in the early game. its really easy to play aggressive at all times and levels with Leona.
For the same reason as Leona, he applies your passive stacks extremely easily, his level 2 all in is incredible as well as his ability to peel and set up easy kills with R.
Thresh is one of the most ideal supports for Kai'Sa! He applies your passive stacks with Hook and Flay and allows you to farm safely because of his lantern. Definitely recommend picking The Void Hunter with Thresh.
Lulu has ridiculous poke potential in early laning phase. Her shield boosts our damage through the roof at the mid stages of the game and her peel is great with Polymorph and her ultimate ability.
Pantheon is an awesome cheesy support with Kai'Sa. He has great, easy all-in potential with his point and click CC. His burst is also really good with his Q and PTA. You have a ton of kill potential in this lane.
I know this one is a bit unorthodox but, Anivia is a wonderful addition to bot lane when you play Kai'Sa! She sets you up really easily with Ice Wall and Stun. Combine that with her R damage with your full combo, it makes for a nasty lane.
Blitz is awesome and has some of the best pick potential in the game with his fast/long hook range. Be careful though, if he misses it, they can play aggressive because of his long cooldowns.
Pyke stacks your passive really easily and is a great support. He spreads gold between you and him at level 6 constantly and has some decent damage in the early game. He can also play a really safe playstyle, making it a solid pick with Kai'Sa.
Obviously, look to all in at level 2 with this guy, his flash E is almost a guaranteed kill. Without flash, Sett wants to play around his Hexflash in lane bushes.
When is Braum not an awesome pick with anyone?! He's a great support with Kai'Sa as well, you proc his passive stacks really easily with Hail of Blades autos, setting you up for a full combo after the stun. His peel is really awesome too. With Shield and Knockup at level 6, this makes for a really intimidating lane.
Alistar is one of the best champs to stack Kai'Sa passive. Farm till level 3 and then look to engage with him.
I dont have the most experience with Rakans, but look to all in at level 2 when he gets his W! After that, farm till 6 while looking for opportunities to follow up on his engages.
Maokai is a pretty interesting support pick and has been for the past season. He has good hard engage and poke potential. Watch for his flash engagements and be ready to follow up as he stacks your passive.
Im taking solo queue into account with Nami and its the only reason i dont put her in the "Strong" category, she's overall a really good caster support like Lulu with Kai'Sa, as she enhances your damage and sets your passive up with bubble and her ultimate.
Bard's playstyle just doesnt fit that great with Kai'Sa. He roams for meeps and ganks other lanes. Leaving Kai'Sa alone typically doesnt turn out well as she as low range and is easily diveable.
Karma has great early levels regarding her poke. Its improtant to take smart trades with her shield and play around her poke.
A good Morgana can set up Kai'Sa well enough to 1v9 the game with Blackshield if they have lots of CC and she hits Q's in lane, but is too situational to be higher on the list.
Soraka isnt necessarily bad with Kai'Sa as she provides great sustain in poke lanes and also has good poke herself. Apart from that, she needs time to scale into the mid game.
Taking solo queue into account, Brand can be a menace in lane and help you out tremendously. He has a crazy amount of damage and its really hard to walk away from a 2v2 unscathed with his R ability.
For the safety aspect of things, Tahmmy boy is a great pick, he cant get you out of most situations with his eat ability. Apart from that, he doesnt provide a whole lot.
Zyra is another one of those hard poke champs, similar to Brand. You cant disrespect her damage or you'll die solo 1v2 to her, therefore, she helps Kai'Sa farm in lane a lot more than typical.
Zilean is a really iffy support for me as i mainly play around his Level 6 ability. When you guys hit 6, look to fight and take huge trades as you have 2 lives to do so.
She has good disengage tools if people jump on Kai'Sa with her R and shield abilities.
Ah, Sona 2.0, She does everything Sona does but better, which is why she's higher than Sona herself. She has good range, poke and good CC, all of which help Kai'Sa out.
Yuumi doenst provide Kai'Sa with anything that helps her in lane. She doesnt stack passive Plasma well. Her sustain isnt enough to keep you alive in lane. Overall, not the best pick with The Daughter of The Void.
As i stated on the Seraphine notes. This champ was already bad with Kai'Sa, but now there's really no reason to lock her in period. She doesnt provide anything to Kai'Sa. Her heals are lack luster, Poke is minimal and her ult is underwhelming. Troll pick, dodge if you get.
If the Vel Koz is smurfing, it'll be an extremely easy lane, 9 times out of 10, thats not the case. He doesnt stack your Passive well, he's super squishy and extremely easy to get on to. Bad, bad, bad.
Xerath is a lot like Vel'Koz. Easy to jump on, squishy and takes a really good player to work. And im talking Zwag levels of Xerath to work in bot lane. Xerath is extremely hard to synergize with when play Kai'Sa, as she cant follow up on a lot of his poke as is.
Champion Build Guide
I overall fell in love with Kai'Sa because of her high skill ceiling and overall great carry potential in all elos. Especially in Season 11. She also plays best with some of my favorite supports. Combine her aggressive playstyle with her high DPS output and you have yourself one hell of a carry.
If by any chance you guys have any questions, i'd love to answer them all, do OP.GG reviews and even VOD reviews to help you guys out. Please, check out my STREAM! I try to be as informative as i can and I'm trying to grow and help out all of you along the way: https://www.twitch.tv/funkybeagle
Hail of Blades is an amazing aggressive rune for trading with Kai'Sa. Pair this quick trading pattern with Icathian Rain as well as applying 3 quick stacks of Plasma, it sets Kai'Sa up to throw in a Void Seeker for maximum damage output, using her Second Skin. Hail of Blades makes Kai'Sa's weak trading potential into something worth while, there's really no other rune that compliments her better in this current point in time.
Taste of Blood is a great rune for sustain, which Kai'Sa wants plenty of due to her weak early game. Providing early lifesteal to our kit without the need of stacking bloodline yet is a great way to survive laning phase. Besides, there's no other rune in the row that's worth taking over Taste of Blood.
Eyeball Collection is a rune purely for the raw adaptive stats that it gives per champion take down, it stacks up to 10 times with 1.2 ad per stack. Allowing Kai'Sa to scale even harder than she already does.
Ravenous Hunter is another great rune made for sustain. As I stated above, sustain is always good, especially for weak early game champions. She stacks it fairly easily with her tools. Using your Killer Instinct to swoop in for a quick takedown and a stack of Ravenous Hunter. Combine that with the stacks of Eyeball Collection and you're on your way to becoming and mid-to-late game monster.
Legend: Bloodline is another rune that provides us with more life steal added onto our kit. Though some Kai'Sa players prefer Legend: Alacrity, I simply value the extra life steal and sustain for Kai'Sa a lot more! This is more preference than anything as you already have some sustain with Taste of Blood and Ravenous Hunter. Try both and stick to whichever you like.
AD Collector Build Rundown:
This build is my PERSONAL FAVORITE! The Collector build is centered around BURSTING one target at a time. It is an extremely high damage build that requires a slight lead in lane and is only viable against SQUISHY teams. This one allows you to push your lead out of lane more so than any other build I've listed in my humble opinion. The execute from The Collector makes it hard to steal kills away from you, stacking gold and enhancing your lead and damage even more.
When do I use this build?
Remember, this build is more so for killing one target at a time quickly, therefore, its ONLY good into squishy teams. If you come across a team with one tank, this build should still be viable. I use this build as an assassin type more than anything, marking a farming adc or mid-laner with Void Seeker and using Killer Instinct to rush in for the quick kill. Surmounting my gold lead higher and higher. This build also allows you to push side lanes in easily, as Kai'Sa in general, is very difficult to fight while isolated against her. This build pushes that fact even further.
In the clip below, I knew i was strong enough to 1v1 anyone on the enemy team, even the enemy Gangplank who was the strongest player on their team. I ignored his damage (I DID NOT expect him to crit me there LMAO) and greeded for the turret, then proceeded to burst him down with my full combo rotation.
Early Stormrazor Stomper Build Rundown:
This is another fun early game oriented one to use! Just like the build before it, the Stormrazor build is centered around getting a lead in lane and snowballing it into mid-game. The slow passive from Stormrazor is a great way to close the distance on your opponent and punish them for being out of position (e.g. walking up for cs). The burst on this build is also exceptional, though not as good as The Collector build, it still poses a HUGE threat when the enemies are being disrespectful.
When do I use this build?
Remember, I only recommend this build if you work you way to a decent lead. Its designed specifically for pushing that lead of yours even more so. When ahead and trying to snowball, you wanna play AGGRESSIVE to extend your lead into mid game and close the game out overall. This Item set caters to an aggressive play style as it's extremely hard to run away from Kai'Sa's damage when using this set.
Below, ive provided some.. OKAY examples of the Storm Stomper Build in action! Its all I could find in my last 20 games as I don't go this build often.
Collector Hybrid Build Rundown:
So, this build gives you a mix of AD and AP damage, i prefer this build the most currently as it gives you all 3 evolves and it honestly feels the best out of all of the current builds, carry potential wise.
When do I use this build?
I typically only tend to go this build when i need to hyper-snowball AND my team needs AP damage, apart from that, i tend to just go the normal AD Collector Build as it feels better early game, regardless, this build has a TON of dps just like its counterpart.
NO EXAMPLE CURRENTLY, LOOK TO MY MOST RECENT MONTAGE TO SEE IT IN ACTION
Figuring out your game plan during the loading screen or champ select is crucial. Knowing Kai'Sa's matchups will help you in this department, but understanding what to do in specific lanes is essential.
Support picks matter most in bot lane, its just how it is. The support matchup can make or break laning phase, turning your worst matchups into more tolerable ones. For example, pit a Leona/ Kai'Sa together against a Miss Fortune/ Soraka. Because the support matchup is more favorable towards the Kai'Sa, Miss Fortune cant abuse the good matchup as well as she would typically be able to. Contrary to popular belief, Kai'Sa has an INSANE Level 1 with her Second Skin passive. Meaning you can force early fights IF you have an aggressive style support that also has a great level 1 like Pantheon.
If you aren't looking to fight at Level 1, Kai'Sa has exceptional lane shove with Icathian Rain as it does double the damage to minions BELOW 35% HP. Making it very easy to out shove the enemy laner and hit your level 2 before them. All inning at level 2 when the opponent is still level 1 is CRUCIAL! It could win you the lane altogether. Don't hesitate to punish them for being overextended and not respecting your level 2.
Kai'Sa's trades are short, consisting of a quick flurry of Hail of Blades autos cancelled into Icathian Rain. Remember, Un-Evolved Void Seeker adds TWO stacks to your Plasma passive, therefore, if you stack your passive 3 times with 3 quick Hail of Blades autos, and you use Void Seeker directly after, it will proc your Second Skin passive. Keep in mind, if you wait till the 4th and final stack before using Void Seeker, it does even MORE damage. Do keep in mind though, it's ill advised to take use Kai'Sa's short trading patterns against characters ive put in the "Major" threat category, as they have really good short trading patterns that Kai'Sa simply has no chance of beating. Lucian also falls into this category.
Remember, your plan changes when it comes to playing with a caster support like Nami. Though these champion do allow you to dish more DPS come mid game, your laning phase isn't nearly as good as it would be with a tank/engage support. The initial idea is still the same, look to use Icathian Rain to shove for Level 2, punish them for disrespecting it. If not, farm it out, play safe and wait till you hit Level 6 power-spike, adding Killer Instinct into your arsenal.
Using Void Seeker for poke isn't necessarily bad in lane, especially with caster support. But i would recommend using it scarcely when laning with an engage support like Leona or Pantheon or something similar, as Void Seeker is a lot of burst damage you're missing out on. Considering the cooldown in it's Un-Evolved state, it could potentially WIN or LOSE you the fight.
Take quick, shorty, worthy trades. Look to fight at Level 1 if the matchup at Level 1 favors you. (e.g. Kai'Sa+ Pantheon vs. Vayne+ Nami) Use Icathian Rain to shove for level 2 power spike and look to punish over extending lane opponents. Focus on farming and hitting Level 6 for even better follow up, survivability and KILL POTENTIAL with Killer Instinct. Remember, Kai'Sa's laning phase is not that great, but a good support can MAKE IT something worth while.
Below, I show how effective using Level 2 to your advantage can be. I knew I was going to hit level 2 first, therefore, i pinged my Blitz in and got both of Miss Fortune's summoners out.
Certain things change if you win or lose lane, yes. But overall, the most important thing is getting your EVOLVES for Icathian Rain and Supercharge. In all builds listed above, you get both evolves by 3 items at most.
Winning lane is obviously the goal, right? But sometimes just winning lane isn't enough, being able to snowball your lead after conquering your lane is just as important and it'll help you 1v9 your games. After winning lane, you and your support should look to help with objectives in any way, that means Rift Herald , Dragon , etc. With your presence, if strong enough, you'll help secure those objectives for your team. Your support should be looking to help other around the map as you farm more and more to your 3 item spike. Or you could roam together and help kill the enemy top laner and siege top tower. It's all about hitting your power spike as fast as possible and helping your team along the way.
After sieging bot tower, continue farming (Taking enemy/allied jungle camps, lane farm, etc.) while helping with team centered neutral objectives like Dragon and looking for any overextended laners that you and your support can take down safely WITHOUT giving out your shutdown gold. You making yourself stronger can overall help make YOUR team stronger.
Once you're in the final stretch in an attempt to close out the game. Some certain things come in to play when you're playing Kai'Sa or any ADC at that matter. Take ADVANTAGEOUS fights with your team. That means, taking 4v2s, 5v3s, 3v1s, etc.
Alternatively, something Kai'Sa oriented. Your late game damage is CRAZY. Simply put. That being said, you can search for SAFE picks around the map, throwing a Void Seeker at an unsuspecting farming ADC and using Killer Instinct to close the gap, as Kai'Sa's late game ultimate has really good range. In doing so and succeeding, you set your team up in a great situation, you're able to force objectives like Baron or Elder Dragon . Setting them up in an ADVANTAGEOUS position, considering it's now a 5vs4 and the enemy team are the ones who have to make a move. Further increasing your chances of coming out on top by sieging Inhibitors and eventually the Nexus.
In my personal opinion, I believe, this is ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT things to master on Kai'Sa. It surprised your opponent with burst and kills in situations you typically wouldnt be able to. Its basically a guaranteed way to land your Void Seeker for surprise burst and finishing power. To do it, you press W mid Killer Instinct animation and flick your mouse cursor to the direction you'd like your Void Seeker to go.
R Auto Attack Reset:
This one should be like bread and butter for you, I use it all the time. Its practically muscle memory for me and can make or break a fight for you. Dishing out damage as fast as possible is important. You're using Killer Instinct as an auto attack reset.
I could probably find far more examples, but they're all over the place in my replays, so i found one that you may like and provided a quick presentation!
Fast Full Combo:
There are plenty of other things i could show, but i feel like this is the best to get started with! So this will be the last combo I show!
This is the most advanced one in the pack I've provided so far. Using all of your abilities for MAXIMUM damage output and BURST potential.
AA x3 ( Hail of Blades) > R AA Reset > W > Q
The HIGHER your ATTACK SPEED the faster this combo comes out! Play around with what you like and master it.
- When by herself with one singular enemy, Kai'Sa's Icathian Rain does more damage as it doesn't spread around to multiple enemies, instead, focusing all the little rockets on one singular target. AVOID FIGHTING IN MINIONS WHEN POSSIBLE. Try to fight isolated as often as possible.
- Much like Jinx's Zap!, Kai'Sa's Void Seeker comes out even when CC'd. Use it before hand!
- Use Killer Instinct to escape over walls, doing so could save your life and not force you to use valuable summoners like Flash. Here's an EXAMPLE
- Despite it being common knowledge, you can cancel evolves with
by timing it correctly. But did you know you could cancel it with Void Seeker and Supercharge as well? :D Come by my stream and ill teach you sometime!
- Remember, Kai'Sa's level 1 is really strong. Dont forget to look to fight if the matchup favors your level 1.
- Your Supercharge ghosts you. Meaning, you can walk through creeps without getting creepblocked.
THANK YOU, from the bottom of my heart if you took the time out of your day to read even some of this. I put my heart into this guide to try and help you guys get started with my favorite Void Daughter.
If you have ANY QUESTIONS regarding Kai'Sa or any ADC, please stop by my stream, the support means the WORLD to me.
Also, i do have a YOUTUBE channel as well, if you'd be willing to check out that, i have more Kai'Sa content on there as well! My peak rank is Diamond 2 and RANK 11 Kai'Sa in North America, both stats not the best, but at least its some credibility!
If anyone asks how to play Kai'Sa or something, i'd appreciate it if you shared this to them and asked them to give it an upvote!
