While a large threat to ezreal, you should be able to play safely and cs from a safe distance against him and set up the wave for a jungle gank.
Yuumi
Enchantress supports work very well with Ezreal so abuse them! Yuumi seems to be the best with him because of how safe you can play the laning phase with an Ezreal.

Champion Build Guide
Mystic Shot is your bread and butter ability, which does use on-hit effects that makes items such as Ravenous Hydra usable. Ezreal is only in a decent spot because of this ability so make sure to abuse it as often as possible. The main caveat of Mystic Shot is that when you land it you get -1 second on the cooldown and since it's a 2 second cooldown late game you'll be spamming this ability very often.
Essence Flux is most commonly used as a poke tool in lane, given its synergy with Ezreal's other abilities. The way it works is that once you land it on a champion, you can proc it by either auto attacking or using a spell. If you decide to use a spell, it refunds the mana from your Essence Flux and you do extra damage with your poke. People usually do Essence Flux into Arcane Shift most of the time because it allows you to specifically target that champion with your Arcane Shift as that's how the ability works.
Arcane Shift is your blink ability, it meshes well with your Essence Flux because your Arcane Shift prioritizes whatever target has Essence Flux on them]]. So normally, if you would do it next to a minion it would hit that minion but if you did it with Essence Flux on a champion, it would prioritize that champion.

✦ Domination Domination secondary would only work if Ezreal didn't go Manamune and didn't rely on his mana sustain in lane. The reason that people go Sorcery secondary is because Ezreal gains more damage from Manaflow Band and more sustain, on top of the ability haste that Transcendence offers making it the perfect secondary tree on Ezreal. |
✦ Cut Down If going Tear of the Goddess, Cut Down is a must. If not going Tear of the Goddess, then you have to gauge whether there are enough tanks on the enemy team to make the rune worth it. If not Coup de Grace takes the cake for best rune! |
✦ Transcendence We're going Transcendence because Ezreal needs as much ability haste as he can get and the cooldown reduction you get from takedowns after level 11 is a massive help in teamfights. |
+ One of the highest DPS out of any ADC + Safest laning phase + Can do Yuumi Ezreal to become unkillable + Hard to master, satisfying playstyle + High DPS Mid-Game + Can help you learn when to go aggressive for a play as an ADC. + Most importantly, his blink, Arcane Shift can make it VERY forgiving if you're mispositioning, a thing that many ADC's do not have the opportunity of having. Ezreal has always been one of those champions that can abuse a bad player and have limitless possibilities if you have mechanical prowess. The thing you have to keep in mind as an Ezreal player is that you need to play safe early but also take advantage of opportunities and poke down the enemy team. He's a champion that once mid-game hits can turn the tide of a game that seems unwinnable with his long range abilities. I feel like, in my opinion, the #1 Key fact that I want you to take from this guide is the fact that Ezreal isn't just an ADC, but he's a spellcaster, an engager, and a champion without any utility spells so play him as such. You need to time yourself around his bursts because you could easily one shot a Tristana, but you can't out DPS her in the long run so keep that in mind when going into fights. |
- Has to build tear early or scales later in the game - Takes a few items to come on-line (With the rise of Essence Reaver, this is no longer the case.) - Doesn't have higher DPS output than other mid-game focused ADC's such as Lucian. - With the rise of ADC's such as Jhin and Vayne, it can be hard to get out of laning phase feeling like you're building an advantage over these champions. - Positioning can be tricky to master - Your E can make you more lenient on your positioning and cause you to get killed. Ezreal is tricky because while he is very strong mid-game with Divine Sunderer and Muramana, you have to keep in mind that if you don't take advantage of your 2 item spike, you'll have to wait until very late into the game to be useful. Falling behind as an Ezreal is a death sentence because the longer you hold back on that 2 item powerspike the longer your team does not have a functional ADC. While playing Ezreal, be sure to keep in mind that CS is more important than anything because giving advantages to the enemy team can make you turn the game from a 5v5 to a 4v5 because of how bad ezreal is without his powerspike. |

When going meta Ezreal, you will always go Divine Sunderer rush because no matter what, the legendary passive and extra sustain will always be better than Trinity Force and its attack speed mythic passive. There has been research done and they've found the Trinity Force will always do less damage than Divine Sunderer if the target has more than 30 armor. You'll want to get your Tear of the Goddess early to stack your Muramana but there is no doubt that these two items are staples in Ezreal's kit. At the moment, Essence Reaver is a more cost efficient Sheen purchase than Divine Sunderer as it is cheaper and provides you mana sustain that you desperately need early game. Manamune is still a staple, but going Essence Reaver into a Lethality mythic such as Duskblade seems to be the stable meta ATM. |
|
Maw of Malmortius Use this item when you're up against a target that has a lot of AP burst damage such as Akali. |
|
Silvermere Dawn Use this item when you're up against heavy CC comps that can shut you down such as a Leona or Rammus. |
|
Chempunk Chainsword Use this item when going against comps with lots of healing. Be sure to build this item second to last or last item because the other items are staples but be sure to build an Executioner's Calling early game if need be. |
|
Death's dance This item isn't very good but you can take this if you're up against targets like a Kha'Zix and you need that extra burst survivability. |
|
Guardian Angel Take this when you're up against a target like Evelynn and no matter what you do you're going to end up dying but your team can capitalize that and take out the enemy team whilst you're coming back to life. |

When up against an Ashe you have to keep in mind that the initial laning phase is going to be very oppressive so most of the time you want to give up level 2 prio and let the wave slow push toward you. She's going to want to spam Volley on you repeatedly and since she outranges you she can chase you down Pre-Level 2 so be sure to take Arcane Shift lvl 2 so she can't chase you down like she wants to. If she has a Seraphine as her support take great caution because if she auto attacks you and seraphine casts her E, Beat Drop, this can stun you and leave you in a very vulnerable position. |
Ezreal is a champion that is very versatile in nature. There are many ways to go about playing Ezreal but I personally prefer starting Doran's Blade in a majority of matchups. During the start, you're going to want to go ahead and 5 point / leash your jungler. In high elo, it's preferable that you just go to lane and the jungler does a leashless clear but it's fine if not. If he doesn't want a leash then you have a few options...
1. Go walk up to the minion wave before it crashes and make them all attack you. Then hide in the bush and watch them kill the first minion on your side. This secures level 2 because they lose a minions worth of xp but be careful if they cheese you because most high elo bot lanes will know about this strategy
2. Cheese them in a bush
3. Try to secure vision and steal pressure by pressuring their bot lane during leash. Only done if you can overwhelmingly beat the enemy AKA if you're against something like a Senna Sona. This usually doesn't work though.
Whilst in lane your goal is to poke the enemy out so don't be afraid to use your Essence Flux and Arcane Shift for some poke to regain your mana as well. You need to take into account that you're an ADC and not a mage so going in isn't always a bad idea. Most of the time you won't have prio unless the target is heavily poked out because of Ezreal's inherently weak early game so don't be afraid to get some distance and CS with your Mystic Shot.
Most of the time, you'll be giving up your level two spike unless you can get a good amount of poke onto the target. If you do grab level 2 first, don't be afraid to Arcane Shift into your target if you have your 5 Rising Spell Force stacks and lay your DPS onto them. If doing so, be sure to ping your support that you'll be doing this so that coordination can be struck. The strongest powerspike any ADC can achieve is their level 2 powerspike so, IF YOU HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY, USE IT!
After that I'd say it'll either be a juggle of your support roaming and you CSing safely or it'll be you poking the enemy ADC out and looking for pick opportunities. The only reason that I believe Ezreal is a solid ADC is because he acts like an artillery mage to can transform into an ADC once the target is poked out. This creates boundless opportunities for him in the sense that you can go for something like an auto - Mystic Shot and immediately surprise your target with an Essence Flux - Arcane Shift and kill them because they didn't realize that you got your Rising Spell Force stacked and you auto attack at a pretty good rate.
THIS IS THE MOST COMMON COMBO FOR LANING PHASE POKE When playing Ezreal, keep in mind that Arcane Shift has a very long cooldown but if you're playing in a lane that will not punish your Arcane Shift cooldown, be sure to use this combo frequently to poke your enemy out. The reason this combo is good is because your Essence Flux's mana gets refunded when used with another ability and Arcane Shift automatically hits the target that has Essence Flux if it is nearby making it an ability you can't miss.
SAFER COMBO FOR LANE/TEAMFIGHTING Keep in mind that you can't always go around using your Arcane Shift because the enemy team can collapse on you. When that isn't possible, you can use Essence Flux + Mystic Shot to poke down your opponents and engage a teamfight at a safe distance. The only con to using this combo and not the one above is that there is a possibility of missing this combo and losing a great deal of your mana early game.
CLOSE THE DISTANCE/RUN AWAY This is a common combo that I use fairly frequently if you're trying to secure a kill and they're far away or in between other champions, you can Arcane Shift into them and finish them off quickly. Most of the time I'll be using this if I'm in the middle of a teamfight and one of my targets flash away + I need to better position myself. This is also commonly used during laning phase if you need to finish off a target that only has a few hitpoints left. Keep in mind that using this leaves you completely vulnerable so make sure you are going to win that fight if you use this combo. Other cases are just running away because Arcane Shift + Flash will bring you pretty far from the fray.
DODGE SKILLSHOTS DURING ULT This one is pretty simple, if you want to dodge a skillshot that is coming at you such as Enchanted Crystal Arrow during your Trueshot Barrage channel, just flash away from it and it will still come from the same initial position you were in.
HIGH AMOUNT OF INITIAL DPS IN A FIGHT Let's say I'm going to begin a teamfight. By doing Essence Flux + Trueshot Barrage, you land a TON of initial DPS that can carry your teamfight and pick-off a target + hit multiple targets if possible. This is great if you're hiding in a bush and somebody comes nearby, you start off with this combo and practically one shot them.
So the way this works is that if you are standing still and cast E and hit a target, Ezreal will automatically face your target and your Q is cast by wherever Ezreal is facing.
Why are you still playing ADC in Season 11? Reason being is that I see a lot of ADC's having inherent hatred for this role, and I want to bring to limelight the real reason that I have a passion for this role. Looking at clips from Doublelift and Gosu, I wanted to bring out the full potential for the role and late game teamfights fuel my love for this role.
When should you pick Ezreal? You should pick Ezreal whenever you either have a team that wants you to play weak-side so that your support can roam and you CS safely under tower, or you have a matchup where you believe that you can scale into your mid-game comfortably and out play them.
