[14.8] Ukantor´s Guide to Godyr (The best way to play it)

By Ukantor
Season 13
This section will be updated for all new thoughts and builds relating to the New season

As this information will change wildly from patch to patch, everything will be permanently put into the guide once things stablize.
Welcome everyone, my name is Ukantor, this is my second guide here on Mobafire, the first one was never published and I decided to create a new one on my main since I have a lot of experience with it and wanted to share it with all of you.

I am currently in Platinum 2, my highest rank was Master, I reached that rank playing only Udyr and Tryndamere, only in the cases that I could not go jg, I have a lot of experience playing Udyr, I do not have many mastery points because I am not from I play a lot on my main account, but I know that I can improve your game a lot, everything in this guide is used to go jg, although you can also use Udyr top with the same build and take Ghost and Flash.

Currently most of Udyr's players go for tanky builds and with AP, this to provide CC and Stamina to their team, but they don't know what they are missing by not trying this build, if I'm not mistaken, there are only 3 matches throughout the game that you can't beat 1 vs 1, the rest of the champions are easy to beat once you get used to it, and that's a very hard thing to say about a champion, who can beat literally everyone champions if you use it correctly, and with this guide, I'm going to teach you how to achieve it and quickly rise in elo until you reach your desired division.

I will be continually updating this guide to add more information, such as Matchups/Mid game/Late game/other builds/etc. soon, along with making the guide nicer to look at in general. Stay tuned!

If you have any questions about anything in the guide, or about Udyr in general, don't hesitate to hop by my stream and ask! If I'm not streaming, I can answer any question on discord! Let me know what sections and information you would like me to add!
Udyr is a one of a kind champion, he has everything to be one of the best fighters in the game, mobility, CC, damage, sustain and much more.

Why choose Udyr over the rest?

Simple, because udyr can overcome games 1 vs 9, you can secure objectives, you can help your teammates, you have one of the most absurd damage in the entire game and also, you counter 90% of the champions that are currently in the meta ..
Unless they put Jax and Nasus in the meta I don't think you'll have any problem dealing with the other champions. Be encouraged, don't be afraid, learn to use Udyr and become incredibly good over time.
It is not necessary to say that the jg is the main role of Udyr, since he is a perfect clean, he has a lot of mobility to move around the map, in addition to great objective control and good ganks, you do not need to know more, but...

Why Top lane Udyr?

Simple, Udyr in top lane has many favorable matches, since he specializes in destroying tanks and fighters, and these undoubtedly abound in top, you will have no problem fighting with him, 90% of the matches, although some will have better early than You, it's just a matter of farming and getting 2 items to be able to come back and win the game..

Udyr top is not a troll pick, he is very strong and in the right hands he can destroy, so don't be afraid to use him if you see a very tanky match or a very risky fighter, Udyr is the perfect pick for you.
The way you improve at any champion is by playing that champion. No matter how much information you have, the experience to back it up is the most important aspect of improving. I would recommend starting off with playing Udyr in the matchups that are easiest, so you can get a feel of all the other factors that go into properly utilizing Udyr jg. Learning how to farm camps, pressure jungle, gank other lanes, etc. is much easier when you are against a champ that is not going to be able to counter jg you.

Ultimately, the best way to get good at anything is to put games in. The more experience you have, the more you will be able to use it.
You are a leader, who can lead your team to follow the right macro calls, creating situations in which you can thrive in your win conditions. You can use time effectively, and always be able to justify why you are spending time doing one thing, and not another. You can find ways to create lane priority in the lanes you gank, and help your team throughout the map. You will always find ways to be useful, no matter how far you, or your team get behind.
Pros

+Simple mechanical champion
+Great 1v1 potential
+Strong splitpusher
+Clears jungle quickly
+Early snowball potential
+Very safe in split.
+High raw damage output
+Can stay on map while low
+High Sustain

You are going to start with the Q - Wilding Claw to clear the jg faster, in addition to this, it is your damage ability, you are going to max it out as quickly as possible, I raised the R - Wingborne Storm from the second only one point to be able to clear camps faster, in addition to that will always be part of your damage combo against enemies, which in most cases will be Q>Qimproved>R>W>Q.. You repeat the combo and if the enemy moves away from you you use the E to reach him.

Normally you see Udyr players who don't get any points in the R - Wingborne Storm, this is a serious mistake, since in addition to allowing you to clear the jungle faster in the early game, it is also necessary for the passive, since every time you change your pose, the next 2 attacks reduce the time of your improved ability by 5%, this means that if you do not raise your R - Wingborne Storm, you will have to be switching between Q>W>E and this slows down the gameplay, always raise your R - Wingborne Storm from Second, this helps a lot.
PASSIVE ABILITY
Bridge Between
Innate - Awakened Spirit: Udyr has no ultimate ability and instead has 4 basic abilities that each incur a Cooldown icon 1.5-second global cooldown when cast. Each ability grants a Stance that empowers his next two basic attacks, and switching Stances will replace the empowered attacks from the previous Stance.

Periodically, after Udyr enters a Stance, he can cast it again at no cost after 0.25 seconds to Awaken it, refreshing the cooldown and empowering the Stance with an additional effect.
This effect is placed on cooldown at the start of the game.

Innate - Monk Training: After casting an ability, Udyr empowers his next two basic attacks within 4 seconds to gain Attack speed icon 30% bonus attack speed and refund 5% of Awakened Spirit's total cooldown, though not if the remaining cooldown is less than 1 second.

Q
Wilding Claw
Claw Stance: Udyr gains 20 / 32 / 44 / 56 / 68 / 80% attack speed and his attacks deal 5 / 11 / 17 / 23 / 29 / 35 (+0.25 per bonus attack damage) physical damage on-hit for 4 seconds. Additionally, Udyr's next two attacks in this stance deal a bonus 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 / 7 / 8% (+4% per 100 bonus attack damage) max health physical damage.

Awaken: Gain an additional 20−70% attack speed and Udyr's next two attacks call lightning six times, dealing a total of 1.5−3% (+0.8% per 100 ability power) max health magic damage to isolated targets (depending on level). Strikes bounce to other nearby targets when possible.

W
Iron Mantle
Mantle Stance: Udyr gains 45 / 60 / 75 / 90 / 105 / 120 (+40% of ability power) (+2 / 2.3 / 2.6 / 2.9 / 3.2 / 3.5% maximum health) shield for 4 seconds. Additionally, Udyr's next two attacks gain 15 / 16 / 17 / 18 / 19 / 20% life steal and restore 1.2% maximum health (+8% of ability power) health on-hit.

Awaken: Gain 20−150 (+65% of ability power) (+45 / 60 / 75 / 90 / 105 / 120) (+8% maximum health) shield, restore 10−75 (+22.5 / 30 / 37.5 / 45 / 52.5 / 60) (+32.5% of ability power) (+4% maximum health) health over 4 seconds, and Udyr's next two attacks instead have 30 / 32 / 34 / 36 / 38 / 40% life steal and restore 2.4% maximum health (+16% of ability power) health (depending on level).

E
Blazing Stampede
Stampede Stance: Udyr gains 30 / 37 / 44 / 51 / 58 / 65% movement speed for 4 seconds, decaying by 30% over 1.5 seconds. Additionally, Udyr's attacks dash him to the target and stun for 0.75 seconds (Only effects the same target once every 6 / 5.6 / 5.2 / 4.8 / 4.4 / 4 seconds).

Awaken: Grants 75 bonus attack range along with immunity to immobilizing and disabling effects and an additional 30−40% movement speed for 1.5 seconds.

R
Wingborne Storm
Storm Stance: Udyr surrounds himself in a glacial storm for 4 seconds, dealing 10 / 19 / 28 / 37 / 46 / 55 (+17.5% of ability power) magic damage per second to nearby enemies and slowing them by 15 / 18 / 21 / 24 / 27 / 30%. Additionally, Udyr's next two attacks in this stance deal 10−30 (+30% of ability power) magic damage to enemies in the storm (depending on level).

Awaken: Unleash the storm, causing it to follow Udyr's last attacked enemy, deal an additional 1-2% (+0.4375% per 100 ability power) max health magic damage per tick over the same duration and slow by an additional 5% (depending on level).
Standard Jg Summoners /

These are the summoner spells that I use in 90% of my games as jg, the smite is mandatory, so the second spell I use is flash, since this allows you to quickly approach enemies, apply a stun and followed by a Improved Q to kill the enemy, also allows you to escape through walls and steal objectives and get out unscathed.

Aggressive Jg Summoners /

These summoner spells are also very useful if the enemy team has a lot of mobility, since you can reach the enemies with more than one jump and kill them, the only disadvantage I see is that you don't have the possibility of stealing objectives more easily and also make surprise ganks through walls, but it's a matter of taste, both work very well on Udyr.

Top Summoners /

These are the summoner spells that I use when going top, they are very useful since you can escape from ganks and also reach your enemies with more than one jump, since it does not have the improvement of the blue smite, the ghost helps you to be able to reach objectives for the jungle.
First of all you should know one thing, Udyr is a champion that benefits more from farming than from ganks, this does not mean that you do not help your team throughout the game, but you must prioritize your strategies.

First of all you are going to start where the bot lane starts, the jg cycle is going to be the same every game, if you start in red, you continue for golems, birds, wolves, blue and toad, after this comes a somewhat situational decision , if you decide to secure the river crab, it is most likely that you will fight with the enemy jg, in this situation, looking at the matchups that I put in the guide, you should know if it is convenient or not to fight for it, in the other case, you can leave the blue of side and gank the top lane or the mid lane, but I recommend, unless the enemy lane is heavily pushed, secure crabs and continue repeating the farm cycle.

Whenever you can and the line asks for it, gank, if you haven't fought and you have all your life, do the jg cycle again for the second time, when you finish you will have +1400 gold, if you got a kill or assist you will have a little more, With this you can backear and buy your first items as the guide says.

Next, in almost all games, you should prioritize the botlane and the mid lane to secure the dragon, with these items you can do it alone, but be very careful where the enemy jg is and that your bot and mid have priority, otherwise So you will only give dragon and a kill and you will lose a lot of advantage.

After this repeat your farming and ganking cycle, always prioritize pushed lanes and secure objectives.

It is always mandatory to buy a pink to avoid having problems when making objectives.

It is important that you take advantage of minions or kills the enemy player, so you can win 1 vs 1 fights and secure objectives without problems, that's why I said that Udyr is a champion that benefits from farming more than ganking, but you have always both to help your team.

When you have 2 items is the time you can kill and hunt the enemies in 1 vs 1, never look for a 1 vs 2 fight, Udyr is very weak fighting more than one target, unless you are very fed up and have a lot of advantage.

Your job as jg in mid game and late game is only one, hunt enemy carrys alone, or fighters and tanks, you have enough damage to kill them, and getting rid of them helps your team a lot since they will have an advantage in tf If they have a majority of people, in the late game, things get a bit complicated, since Udyr is a champion who suffers a lot against CC, so in TFs, don't think of going in first for the carry because you will only die and you will leave your team at a disadvantage, always stay positioned and waiting for the enemy team to disposition or spend their CC, at that moment enter for the carries, or if they are heavily defended, kill the front tanks, but without staying long in battle as it wears you down and you can die, normally kill and run, that's your job.

If you manage to gain a lot of advantage, you can do 1 vs 5, but this will almost never happen unless you have 10 kills or more of advantage, which does not happen very often, and even then, with a simple CC they can stop you, so always be careful going in and prioritize helping your team.
Your job as a top laner is simple, farm and only farm until you have 1 complete item, in the case of going against a difficult fighter or a tank, wait until you have 2, in that situation, you go in with everything and win the fight, it's always there. Watch out for your jg, if he ganks you at first levels you have a lot of advantage since the kills will favor your build, and will make you reach your power spike faster.

Mid game and late game is the same as what I explained in jg, your duty is to hunt down the carries and tanks 1 vs 1 and win TF at a disadvantage, in case you have to fight 5 vs 5, try to wait for the enemy team spend all his CC and then go in for the carry, if they have a lot of damage and you can't go in for the carry, focus on the tank and delete it quickly from the game, then run out and repeat the process until you win the TF.

Standard Runes: ( Hail of Blades, Cheap Shot, Eyeball Collection, Relentless Hunter / Celerity, Gathering Storm)

It is your best ally in your games, it allows you to delete carrys in seconds and kill tanks in the blink of an eye.

This rune allows you to do more damage after you stun them with E, perfect for combining with Q to wipe out carrys.

It allows you to take advantage early game and scale more late game.

It allows you to move around the map with speed and ease, very important when hunting enemies solo.

It allows you to move faster to catch those champions who jump or run a lot.

Very important to scale in the late game and be able to beat very tanky champions or very powerful fighters, this rune gives you the necessary damage to reach hits +40% of the enemy's maximum life per hit.
Gustwalker Hatchling

Your best ally in the jg, the mobility that this smite upgrade offers you is incredible, it allows you to hunt enemies and move around the map with incredible speed, without a doubt I choose it in 90% of my games, unless the enemy composition have a lot of CC.

Standard Build

Trinity Force
Trinity Force It is currently the best mythical for Udyr, with the change to the marauder's claw, this is positioned as the best option for udyr, it gives you damage, attack speed, movement speed, life and cooldown reduction, in addition to combining well with your skills with low cooldown to boost basics.

Berserker's Greaves
Berserker's Greaves For me they are the best boots with this build of Udyr, they give you a lot of advantage in 1 vs 1 against both carries and tanks and they allow you to clear the jg very quickly.

Blade of the Ruined King
Blade of the Ruined King Without a doubt, there is no item that combines better with udyr than the ruined king, its passive in conjunction with your Q is responsible for erasing carries and tanks in a matter of seconds.

Lord Dominik's Regards
Lord Dominik's Regards This item is perfect for getting rid of the hypertanks in the game, its penetration along with its passive that does extra damage to enemies with more life allows you to wipe out tanks in the blink of an eye.

Ravenous Hydra
Ravenous Hydra This item allows you to split push very quickly and also, the damage, lifesteal and cooldown reduction that it offers, without a doubt make it an excellent option for Udyr.

Death's Dance
Death's Dance This item gives you the necessary tankiness to survive assassins and carrys, in your fights with fighters you will appreciate having this item, without a doubt it is a core that you do not want to forget.

Situational Items

Youmuu's Ghostblade
Youmuu's Ghostblade This item is a perfect replacement for trinity if the enemy team doesn't have as many tanks and if you need that extra mobility.

Edge of Night
Edge of Night This item is perfect to avoid small stuns and annoying abilities in TF, it is also the perfect counter if the enemy has a Vayne Hyper feed, with this item you can solo it without problems.

Mortal Reminder
Mortal Reminder This item is the perfect substitute for Lord Dominik if the enemy has a lot of lifesteal or healing, don't think twice if you see a Kayn, Aatrox or Vladimir.

Mercurial Scimitar
Mercurial Scimitar This item is perfect if the enemy team has a stun or several stuns that don't let you reach the carry or if they just won't stop killing you because of the enemy weed, buy it if you need CC protection.
This guide will be continually updated to add more information. The next sections will go in depth on Laning, mid game, and late game.
