Introduction

Hello again everybody, I have removed all my pointless guides into my archives and now I'm focusing more on these kind of guides. The ones that people will read. In this build for Amumu I am going through two different builds.
JUNGLE
and
TANKY
I will be focusing more on the jungle build than tanky. With tanky you will have more health and survival, but with jungle you will be getting triple kills constantly with your short cool-down ultimate.

Pros / Cons

PROS
High armor and magic resist.
Tanky damage dealer, one of the best.
Very OP early and mid game.
Best jungle with 3 AOE spells and 1 stun skill shot.
Ultimate damage dealer and team fight changer.
Can take down carries in seconds.
Looks like a barrel with the Pharaoh Amumu skin.

CONS
Targeted a lot in the jungle when doing well.
Can be counter-jungled at low levels.
Need a blue buff leash to start jungling.
It looks like toilet paper.

Runes

JUNGLE
I take Greater Mark of Magic Penetration and Greater Mark of Attack Damage for decent jungling strength early game. Glyph's and Quint's of Potency for the early and mid-game boost, and Greater Seal of Armor for more defense against jungle creeps.

TANKY
You have a choice here if the enemy team has a lot of casters than get Greater Mark of Scaling Magic Resist if not just take Greater Mark of Magic Penetration. You come to another choice Greater Quintessence of Armor or Greater Quintessence of Movement Speed, I recommend Swiftness so you can jungle mid game and have more speed without having to get Boots of Swiftness.

Masteries

JUNGLE
Random masteries everywhere you think? Well why go the simple 9/21/0 or 9/0/21. You are tanky, you need the Smite upgrade, AND you need some power down the utility tree.

TANKY
Good ol' 9/0/21. Some down the offensive tree, and some down the utility tree, !

Items

JUNGLE
I start off with the usual Cloth Armor and 5 Health Potion.
Then getting Philosopher's Stone for gold and health regeneration and then Boots for better ganking and jungle speed.
I get Chain Vest for more survival and then Ionian Boots of Lucidity, this way my ultimate will always be there for team fights.
Then getting my three core items, Sunfire Aegis, Abyssal Mask and then Rylai's Crystal Scepter for permanent slowing tears!
I finish with Eleisa's Miracle because I didn't get Mercury's Treads and then Rabadon's Deathcap for some crazy damage.

TANKY
I start off with a Regrowth Pendant and just 1 Health Potion. This is for an easy build into Philosopher's Stone. Recall as soon as you have enough money for it, as it is a handy tool to have early game.
Then get Boots and rush Giant's Belt for more health.
I then get Mercury's Treads and one of the core items Sunfire Aegis.
Then I get Abyssal Mask but instead of getting Rylai's Crystal Scepter now, I wait and get more tanky items.
I get Eleisa's Miracle and Banshee's Veil.
Finishing with my last core item, Rylai's Crystal Scepter.

Situational Items

JUNGLE
Instead of showing whole new build I am just going to go through each non-core item and show you in what situation you can replace them in.

EARLY GAME

Instead of starting with Cloth Armor you can get Regrowth Pendant and 1 Health Potion for fasting building, but no gank will be able to be done as you will need to recall early.

Instead of Ionian Boots of Lucidity you can get the following items.

Mercury's Treads: If they have 3 or more casters or 2 or more have hard CC. (I mean HARD CC.)
Sorcerer's Shoes: Seeing your passive already gives you ***** of Magic Pen, but if you cant manage to Auto Attack them all then just get these.

MID GAME

These are your core items, therefore you can not switch them out. You need these items to survive, do damage, and carry.

LATE GAME

This part is very situational, if you got Mercury's Treads then don't get Elisa's... And if you feel you are too squishy to get Rabadon's, don't freaking get it. Get one or two of these items: (In order of recomendation;)

Frozen Heart: Mana + CDR + Tanky... WIN!!!
Force of Nature: Gives you speed buff AND more health regen... WIN AGAIN!!!
Will of the Ancients: Your ultimate can heal you back to FULL HP!!! WINNING!!!!!
Banshee's Veil: If the casters don't have hard CC but there are still a lot of casters get this little necklace. LOSS? I don't really like it on the jungle build...
Randuin's Omen: The carry is crazy fed, USE TEH ACTIVE! Bam, their carry is gone.

TANKY

EARLY GAME
Philosopher's Stone
These item's are quite straight forwards, if you are up against two AD champs in your lane, then just get Chain Vest instead of Giant's Belt but I only ever had to do this once and I was ganked and got owned.

Instead of Mercury's Treads you can get these:

Boots of Swiftness: If you don't have your 3 Greater Quintessence of Movement Speed, or you are too poor to afford it.
Ionian Boots of Lucidity: Same as above.
Sorcerer's Shoes: Same as above.

Skills

Before I go through the skill sequence I'm going to go through the skills for Amumu in depth.

(Innate): Amumu's attacks reduce the target's magic resistance by 15 / 25 / 35 for 4 seconds. The debuff doesn't stack but it refreshes with every attack.
This is what makes Amumu the best jungler and what makes his ulti and AoE spells so damn OP. Use this to auto attack all the minions and all the enemy champions before using your spells.

(Active): Amumu tosses a sticky bandage towards a target location. If it contacts an enemy, Amumu pulls himself to it and will deal magic damage and stun the target for 1 second.
Range: 1,100

Cost: 80 / 90 / 100 / 110 / 120 mana
Cooldown: 16 / 14 / 12 / 10 / 8 seconds
Magic Damage: 80 / 140 / 200 / 260 / 320 (+1.0 per ability power)

Best way to initate a gank, and a very good stun when in danger or to get running champions. Not used in jungles but can be used through walls to dragon, or baron, and then steal it with your ultimate. Extremley good ratio, can help you last hit well.

(Toggle): While active, nearby enemies will be dealt a percentage of their maximum health plus a base amount as magic damage each second.
Cost: 8 mana per second
Cooldown: 1 second
Radius of AoE: 300

Base Magic Damage: 8 / 12 / 16 / 20 / 24
Max Health to Damage Ratio: 1.5 / 1.8 / 2.1 / 2.4 / 2.7% (+0.005 per ability power)

The best jungling utility, against level 1 blue buff, auto attack blue buff with Despair and without even attacking the small lizards they will already almost be dead. The best AoE jungling utility yet. Also the ultinmate slow with Rylai's Crystal Scepter. The worlds worst ratio though, in fact why dont they just make it 0 AP...

(Passive): Amumu takes reduced damage from physical attacks.

Physical Damage Reduction: 2 / 4 / 6 / 8 / 10

(Active): Amumu deals magic damage to surrounding units. Each time Amumu is hit by an autoattack, the cooldown on Tantrum's active is reduced by half a second.
Cost: 50 mana
Radius of AoE: 200

Cooldown: 10 / 9 / 8 / 7 / 6 seconds
Magic Damage: 75 / 100 / 125 / 150 / 175 (+0.5 per ability power)

Epic damage reduction for jungling and tanking, and the best damage and AoE damage in teamfights and to clear the jungle in seconds. I love this spell and it's passive and it's crazy damage, it's what makes Amumu look like toilet paper. Also spammable in team fights and when jungling due to the CDR from getting hit.

(Active): Amumu entangles surrounding enemy units, dealing magic damage and rendering them unable to auto attack and move for 2 seconds.
Radius of AoE: 600

Cost: 100 / 150 / 200 mana
Cooldown: 170 / 150 / 130 seconds
Magic Damage: 150 / 250 / 350 (+1.0 per ability power)

The greatest AoE spell not including Fiddlesticks. I love this spell, once got a Pentakill with it and can also give you some crazy team fights changes. Greatest spell, will go into it more in depth later on.

Skill Sequence

As above for both builds, I get Despair first for the level 1 Blue Buff. Then maxing out Tantrum followed by finishing Despair and only getting 1 point in Bandage Toss finishing it out and maxing it out late game.

Summoner Spells

JUNGLE

Used to catch up to ultimate and to escape/double teleport in conjunction of Bandage Toss.

For jungling, Herp-Derp.

TANKY

Used to catch up to ultimate and to escape/double teleport in conjunction of Bandage Toss.

Used to catch up to ultimate, to escape, get to team-fights quick, get back to your lane, and all sorts of other things. I like to use it with Flash to catch up to use Curse of the Sad Mummy no matter how far away you are.

Other spells in rank of goodness:
Exhaust: If you are up against a lot of DPS champs or squishy champs that will probably run in fights.
Clarity: Not really needed, unless in lane with a mana needing champion.
Teleport: Good if you feel you will get harassed a lot or can't be bothered running as you are impatient and need the extra XP/Gold.
Heal: Handy if you are in <20 level games.

There are more but I don't think they are needed for this champion or this build.

Jungling

Here's a video if you can't read:
/league-of-legends/ability/despair-114 RED pop a Health Potion and turn on Despair and use Tantrum whenever it is off CD.
Once I Smite it to death on about 675 health I go to Small Golems and then kill them both.
I then gank Mid or Bot.

I then recall, buy whatever I can, and then repeat ganking whenever I can instead of just when I have all buffs. I recommend getting both of bot or 1 person of mid and 1 person of bot to help you get dragon at level 6. If anyone tries to gank, I just use my ultimate and get a few kills and pick up dragon.

So to make a long route short:
1. Blue Buff
2. Wolves
3. Wraith's
4. Red Buff
5. Golems
6. Gank

RECALL
7. Repeat
8. Dragon
9. Gank

RECALL

Team Fights

You should usually initiate a team fight by using Bandage Toss then turn on Despair and use Tantrum once or twice whilst tanking. After when your team is on half health, or the enemies is on half health/one or more is running. Use your ultimate, Curse of the Sad Mummy. BAM!!! You just got a triple kill and your team scored an ace.

If you are going to fight alone I strictly don't recommend unless it is for a gank early game. If the enemy has overextended on solo top lane as your team-mate had to recall or died. Then the enemy probably has low health. Simply Bandage Toss or Flash in and then use Despair + [[Tantrum combo. If he manages to get a bit out of reach Bandage Toss again for the kill if it is on CD or you missed just finish with your ultimate. Or instead of all that just Bandage Toss and Curse of the Sad Mummy seeing it is so damn overpowered.

Farming

Seeing you will only need to farm a lot in the TANKY build this is how you do it. Last hit with Bandage Toss. But if you are not getting harassed or the enemy is away from their lane just go to the middle of the minion, wave turn on Despair and then just spam Tantrum. You will get plenty of XP/Gold.

This is an awesome video helped me when I was under level 20 when I was a total newbie.

Yes it is old when you could still buy a Doran's item and a Consumable but it's got the same principle.

Team Mates

Good team mates are the ones that have CC or is a TANK that also deals damage such as Garen or Rammus.

GOOD:
Morgana
Garen
Rammus
Singed
Dr. Mundo
Udyr
Teemo

BAD:
Graves
Riven
Tristana
Karthus
Lux
Master Yi

These are bad because they are just bad... The end, in fact Amumu doesn't have a good or bad lane partner. It's the partner's skill that counts. But usually these ones are most annoying to lane with or against.

Ranked Play

Good luck not getting Amumu banned in ranked. I swear he is always banned, but when he isn't. FREE RANKED WIN YAY!!!

I can not put this simpler but if you have the chance to play Amumu ranked just use the jungle build. It's literally a free win. As long as your team understands you.
