Introduction

Some Colossal Burst Damage Awaits You

Some may think the new Master Yi is absolutely a burst damage champion, but that isn't entirely true. Although yi relies heavily on the damage of his Alpha Strike, it's possible to get kills with just your Wuju Style and Highlander. That's because the damage buff on Alpha Strike(post new yi) combined with the effects of Statikk Shiv and the crit gives you the illusion of burst damage. Master Yi is still a constant damage champ in his core, you just build him AD/Burst at this moment in time.

Masteries

Ok, so a few of the masteries I have chosen may be confusing for some people.

Artificer

The reason for this one is that you'll be using some really neat items like Youmuu's Ghostblade, Sword of the Divine and Blade of the Ruined King, so reducing their cooldowns can really be an advantage. 15% of 90 secs( Blade of the Ruined King's cooldown)is 13.5, which isn't a small amount of time.

Improved Recall

The reason I invested a point in this is because:
  • I had spare points after I finished the offence masteries.
  • When you're playing as Master Yi(or any given champion for that matter) it's always good to have a faster recall, because you can get back into the action in a smaller amount of time. Invest a point in this ability if you have mastery points to spare.

Abilities

Double Strike

Not much to say about this- Master Yi's passive, good for farming. This can possibly lower your damage output if you've used Sword of the Divine's active.

Alpha Strike

This is your primary damaging skill, so max it out until lvl 10. Alpha Strike can crit, so buy crit chance items.

Meditate

This is Master Yi's only AP ability. It's used for healing or buying time(when you're waiting for the cooldown of your Alpha Strike or you want to survive long enough for your teammates to come. If you want to buy AP items, I suggest you don't. Why? Because RIP AP Yi.

Wuju Style

This is just there for pushing and a bit of extra damage. Max this out last.

Highlander

This ult is really useful. You can use it to chase someone or as an escape tool. This lets you tower dive freely because of your increased move speed. I have gotten so many double kills around lvl 7-10 on a tower and survived.
You can also use this for pushing Nexus - Usually Highlander + Wuju Style= BB Nexus.

Items

Boots

Berserker's Greaves

This item gives you attack speed, and well, AD boots.

Ionian Boots of Lucidity

I have to tell you everyone, I think cooldown reduction is AWESOME. There is nothing more convenient than having an Alpha Strike more often. You can buy these for any champ that uses an ability for dealing lots of damage.

Mercury's Treads

I'm mainly including this for merc tread fans. I'll be honest, I never buy these. Highlander pretty much takes care of CCs, but it never hurts to be stunned for a smaller amount of time.

Enchantments

Homeguard

I buy this for ANY champ whatsoever. Boost to defending your towers - check; You can save more of your teammates - check; Homeguard- CHECK!

Furor

This is also a good one. This will help in chasing - smo is running from you -> Alpha Strike on a minion and you've already catched up.

Alaclarity

Movement Speed Boost. Nuff said.

Core

Statikk Shiv

This item is great - Crit, Attack Speed, Movement Speed. Not to mention - THE PASSIVE: You can push a lot faster and you can do more damage with your Alpha Strike.

Youmuu's Ghostblade

What this item is is basically a second ultimate(more precisely it's more like an old summoner spell called Surge that is no longer present). As I once said- when one Highlander is not enough, get a second one.

Infinity Edge

Honestly, tell me. Did you really not expect this to be here? If you have any experience with Master Yi, you should know that this is something that is used really commonly. Bottom line- +50% crit damage= Holy **** this is awesome.

Additional Items

Bloodthirster

Get this is you concentrate on pushing. This item and the core should be enough for you to lifesteal the **** out of your lane. This means that any enemies you encounter during a push will find you on full HP and you can push minion waves without any of yours without getting harmed and usually healing yourself.

The Black Cleaver

The ultimate armor pen item. Buy this if you are fighting against a tank. If not, well, skip out on this one, there are items that are more sensible to get.

Blade of the Ruined King

I know some people don't like this item, but I love it. First of all, the passive - if you Alpha Strike on a full health champ with lots of health, it will deal MASSIVE DAMAGE. The active- this can be used as a "lifesteal" Ignite. You can turn battles around so brutally with this. High HP champs are basically f*cked if you Alpha Strike + active on them.

Phantom Dancer

Although this was a better item for the old Yi, there is no reason to avoid this item. It's still useful- crit chance, move speed and on top of all - ignore unit collision. There is a thing I really hate in LoL, it's called minions getting in your way. Well Phantom Dancer basically says "**** you" to that.

Sword of the Divine

About this item, I really don't care about the attack speed bonus, although that is also pretty sweet. What I do care about, however, is the fact that the active gives 100% crit chance for 3 attacks. Feel your Alpha Strike isn't critting often? Well it's kinda hard not to crit if you have a guaranteed critical hit. BUT THAT IS NOT ALL! Kills and assists reduce the cooldown by 50%, so you are likely to use it more than once in a single battle.

Trinity Force

Everyone knew this was going to be here. It gives you some crit and move speed, but that is not what is important. It's the passives that are awesome- Rage: 60 move speed on a unit kill- it's almost like a mega furor; Spellblade- you deal extra damage with your next basic attack after you cast a spell - at lvl 180 that is 220 extra damage, and well, that isn't a small amount.

Maximizing your odds of a Penta Kill

DO THIS ONLY IF YOU THINK YOU CAN GET A PENTA

A short explanation of the factors that matter

  1. You need to be quite fed. If you deal massive damage, you overlevel the enemy team and you have a full build, you may attempt the tactics shown below.
  2. The way your enemies come at you is also important. The classic one by one is about an 80% guarantee for a penta. Bottom line is: you need to know how many enemies you can solo. If you think you can achieve a triple kill, then you should probably go for it anyway - it should be a fair trade.
  3. Think about your teammates. Ask for help if necessary, but be aware that your team may flame you if you ks them, even if it's for a penta. An account suspension for a few weeks is too big of a price to pay for a single penta.
  4. Penta kills don't happen because of a summoner's skills, they happen because of luck. It doesn't matter how good you really are, your team and your opponents matter.
Got that? Alright, let's move on.

Penta strategy

Before diving in, check your stacks. You should have 100 Statik Charges. If you have more than 1 stack of Double Strike, then attack a minion or something before going in, if you want to maximize your damage output.
Activate your Sword of the Divine, Highlander and Wuju Style and charge in with Alpha Strike. When you land, activate Youmuu's Ghostblade. With all this you'll have 202% Attack Speed(302% with Sword of the Divine)at lvl 18 and full build. Attack the enemy champions in the order of their damage output. You'll probably have to use both your Flash and Ignite.
